Chapter 8, A friend in need pt 2
*Skull kid held Tatl close being glad that the threat was finally over. However this feeling of safety wouldn't last long.
"My, my, my... how curious." A strange voice sounded from within the woods.
Skull kid turned to where the voice came from.
From within the shadows a strange man appeared.
It was the same man he had seen before, the man named Ghirahim.
Skull kid quickly hid Tatl underneath his shirt and the other two fairies went behind him.
Once the other two fairies were behind skull kid they sneakily hid underneath his hat.
Luckily for them Ghirahim hadn't noticed the fairies.
"Who might you be? And how did you manage to take out so many of Zant's.. puppets?" Ghirahim said as he came closer.
Skull kid remained silent but weary.
He still didn't like grown ups much and this guy especially seemed like trouble.
"Oh come on, don't be shy kid. I won't hurt you... yet.. heheheh." Ghirahim said with a devilish smile plastered onto his face.
Skull kid slowly moved more towards the tree line but without taking his eyes off of Ghirahim.
Meanwhile the soldiers and Mr. Hawkins were slowly creeping closer.
They were now almost at the source of the sound.
They were almost where Ghirahim and Skull kid were at.
But they stopped in their tracks when they saw someone appear to the left of them.
It was Zant, he was also heading into the same direction.
After all it was one of his minions that cried for help in the form of a roar.
Zant slowly creeped towards the clearing with some more twilight monsters following him.
Zant was holding a strange item however that caught Mr. Hawkins's eye.
It was a wooden ocarina with some green details on it.
It looked very old and a bit broken.
Mr. Hawkins wondered why a mage of his level needed a broken ocarina.
Hawkins ordered his men to quietly follow Zant.
He himself of course still taking the lead.
Meanwhile at the castle.
Zelda, Midna, Sidon and Daru were getting more and more worried.
"I have a bad feeling.." Midna said as she looked out a window into the sky.
"You're right, there is this... heavy feeling in the air.. like.. something that shouldn't be there.. is happening." Daru added.
"Can we really do nothing but wait?" Sidon said.
"No, my people are in danger. I don't care if I'm still hurt. I will get that traitor! Zant, he will meet his demise at my hands!" Midna said as she clutched her fists.
"You know, I've been meaning to ask.. how is he like? I mean you told us about how he betrayed your people but.. before that I mean." Sidon asked.
"He was.. kinda nice actually and he used to be very goofy. But something happened and he started believing that I wasn't meant to lead and that someone else would be far more capable." Midna explained.
"It sounds like someone convinced him or maybe even manipulated?" Zelda said.
"Yes, but the truth is he once took over the twilight realm and tried to take over Hyrule as well. And that was of his own free choice. It wouldn't be a surprise to me if he's planning the exact same thing now. Except.. something is different.. he seems stronger than usual. And his new accomplice Ghirahim, he seems dangerous as well. There's something about those two.." Midna said as she started thinking.
"I get what you mean, that Zant guy turned two of our guards into monsters.." Zelda stated.
"Wait two people of the light? That should have been impossible.. so that's how strong he became.." Midna said.
Meanwhile back at the forest.
Skull kid felt cornered by Ghirahim who was slowly approaching him.
Then without warning Skull kid quickly turned around and quickly ran away.
Skull kid didn't know Zant and the soldiers were also headed that way however and he bumped into someone.
He slowly looked up.
"Well hello again." A familiar voice said.
Skull kid remained silent and nervously shifted around a bit.
"So kid, how about you come with us?" It was Mr Hawkins who was now gently holding out a hand.
"It's not safe here anymore." He continued waiting for Skull kid to respond.
"You're right.. we have to leave.." Skull kid said in a shy manor.
Then a bit closer then they'd like they heard Ghirahim's voice.
"Kiddo! You better come out now! There's no use in hiding! I will find you!" He said.
"Idiot do you really think people are gonna come out of hiding if you act like that?" Zant answered as he walked up to Ghirahim.
"Well I just figured a child might. He kinda reminded me of someone and there's something weird about that kid." Ghirahim concluded.
Zant in term let out a deep breath.
"Need I remind you we are not here to chase children, we are here for only two goals. Also I noticed a monster I've created was screaming earlier, did you do something?" Zant asked while looking at Ghirahim annoyed.
Then again due to his mask that wasn't exactly visible.
"I swear that wasn't me! I think it was that kid." Ghirahim concluded.
The two argued for a bit as to whether or not a kid could do something like that.
In the mean time Skull kid, Mr Hawkins and the other soldiers were able to sneak past and make their way out of the forest again.
Once out of the forest Mr Hawkins put Skull kid in front of him on his horse, just to make sure he wouldn't run back into the forest again like last time.
Skull kid didn't really like this seeing as how Hawkins was a grown up but he decided that it would be better than to stay behind with the two maniacs who had now completely taken over the lost woods.
The ride back wasn't exactly comfortable.
It was pouring rain and a weird orange light was seen in the far distance where the unknown mountain lay.
The air felt heavy and the raindrops almost looked like they were falling in slow motion.
The large nearly empty field of hyrule seemed to show a reflection as the water slightly piled up on the ground.
The was so much rain that even though it seemed to fall in slow motion it was still difficult to make out the castle in the distance.
At one point to Skull kid it also seemed like the horses were running in slow motion.
It was as if the world itself stood still for a second.
To the others it just seemed like the rain had slowed down and they of course could see the weird orange light and feel the heavy air but nothing else felt weird to them.
Meanwhile skull kid slowly started to feel weakened.
The noises around him sounded somewhat doll and distant.
His vision slowly started turning black.
Like as if a black something slowly covered his vision starting below and going up.
He started hearing a high ringing sound.
And then right before he was about to pass out a loud roar was heard coming from the lost woods.
The roar snapped Skull kid back to reality.
He was awake and aware again, although he still felt dizzy.
The rest of the way Skull kid managed to stay awake.
He figured it was some kind of dark powers at work.
Creatures with magic seemed to be affected by it more than those who do not, like the soldiers.
Skull kid began to worry for Tatl now since fairies are basically made of magic and since she was already hurt.
Not much later, at the castle.
"Okay that's it! I'm going!" Sidon said as Midna and Daru both accompanied him to the front door.
"Don't be ridiculous! Like I said earlier even if we do go, whatever will happen would already have happened by the time we get there!" Zelda said as she blocked the door.
"So you're saying we just have to sit and wait?! While your soldiers are in dander?" Midna responded.
"Listen I'm worries too but, I don't want you guys to get yourselves in trouble! Two out of us four are hurt. But I also trust Hawkins, he knows what he's doing." Zelda said.
"You're right princess, but it won't hurt to wait for them by the gate right? So let's do that instead, we can help them that way." Daru stated.
"That's.. actually not a bad idea! Let's do it!" Sidon agreed and so did Zelda.
Midna on the other hand was still not convinced.
But she came up with a plan.
She'd only have to act like she agreed and once they were at the gate she could take one of the horses and go.
However her plan was cut short.
The moment they went outside Midna could already tell it would be too much for her.
She could also feel the dark energy.
As she looked at the other three she could tell they all felt it too.
Yet they still made it to the gate of castle town.
There in the distance they saw the soldiers approach.
"Princess!" Hawkins called out as he dropped of his horse.
"Are you unharmed?! Why are you outside in this weather?! You could catch a cold or worse get sick!" Hawkins panicked as he took off his jacked and put it around Zelda.
"I'm fine, just help everyone inside and don't worry about me for once." Zelda said as she looked at him with an annoyed look.
Hawkins in term went to check on his soldiers and help them get their horses inside the stables.
Meanwhile Zelda went up to skull kid who was still sitting on Hawkins's horse while Sidon was now holding the rope.
"Great Mr Hawkins found you! I'm Zelda and you are?" She asked.
"..." Skull kid didn't want to give out his name yet as he was afraid some rumors may have been connected to it.
"Not much of a talked eh? That's fine, you can open up to us at your own pace." Zelda said as she attempted to help Skull kid off of the horse.
Skull kid in term of course jumped off himself.
Even though he felt dizzy he could still manage.
"Tell you what! Let's get inside and I'll show you around a bit!" Zelda said.
She didn't know why but she was intrigued by this weird kid.
She wanted to get to know him better and maybe even be like a big sister to him.
She had secretly always hoped to be a big sister one day but unfortunately her mother passed away before that could happen.
Skull kid quietly followed.
Once the two were inside Zelda preceded to show Skull kid around for a bit.
Meanwhile Daru, Sidon, Midna and Hawkins helped the soldiers with their horses.
"So uhm.. how was your trip?" Zelda eventually asked as she was now showing Skull kid the second floor.
"..." skull kid lifted his shoulders as if to say "it was okay."
"You don't have to lie to me kid, I know Hawkins can be a huge pain sometimes. He's always so overbearing and never leaves me alone. Anyways you can clean up in this room, I'm sure there's also some dry clothes here that would fit you." Zelda said as she opened a door to a guest room.
Skull kid walked inside but then turned around for a second.
"You shouldn't be so hard on him.. be glad someone like that still cares about you.." Skull kid said as he closed the door.
Zelda was taken back by this a bit.
She didn't expect him to answer, especially not like that.
"What was that about?" Tael asked skull kid as he flew out from under skull kid's hat.
"What do you mean?" Skull kid asked.
" 'be glad someone like that still cares about you?' What did you mean by that?.." Tael asked attempting to get some more answers about Skull kid's past.
"Nothing! I just meant for her to realize that being overbearing isn't always a bad thing.. speaking of.. we should be overbearing right now.." Skull kid said as he carefully sat down on the bed and lifted his shirt.
Tatl was unconscious but still breathing.
Skull kid carefully held her in his hand as Tael hovered over her.
Navi came out as well and hovered over Skull kid's shoulder.
All three looked at the broken and slightly bloody wing.
"We have to fix this.." Tael said as his glow grew a bit faint out of sadness.
Seeing his sis like this.. it made him feel useless.
He couldn't even protect the one family member he had.
Skull kid felt the same way.
While Navi felt like it was her fault, after all if Skull kid hadn't come for her.. He would never have left the two fairies side.
"We will fix this... I have a plan." Skull kid said as he opened the closet and found some dry clothes that seemed to fit him.
He couldn't find a new hat though, so instead he took a scarf and let the two fairies hide there.
While he put Tatl in a lose pocket making a safe warm spot for her.
"I will fix this.." Skull kid said to himself as he opened the door and walked towards the stairs.
