Chapter 12

Kagome

She awoke to a soft knock at her door and Izayoi poked her head around the door as Kagome rubbed the sleep from her eyes.

"Kagome, Kaede will be here in about an hour so you should get up and dressed" she cooed gently, Kagome nodded.

"Ok, I'll be down in a sec" she mumbled pulling the quilt back, Izayoi smiled and closed the door with a clack.

She sat up and pulled her sore foot out of the bed but the pain wasn't as strong as it was before, in fact when she applied weight to it the limb barely hurt at all and she sighed in relief to find her body was healing nicely.

After a quick wash and getting dressed into a pair of shorts and a tank top, Kagome grabbed her crutch and headed downstairs happy to apply more pressure to her foot she had removed the bandage and put on some flip flops.

Opening the door, she was met with a raised fist and realized Inuyasha was just about to knock on her door. He seemed shocked by her abruptness of opening the door at the same time as he was about to knock.

"Oh, good morning Inuyasha. Sorry, did I startle you?" she asked.

The hanyou laughed dropping his hand, she noticed his attire of suit pants, a light button up shirt and a red tie hanging loosely around his neck. He certainly looked quite handsome in a suit and his hair was pulled back into a low pony outlining his small ears that dropped lazily on his head.

She realized the left one had a tiny kink making it flop slightly forward at the tip, Kami she wished she could touch them for a moment but quickly bit back the urge.

"It's fine, my mother sent me up to help you down for breakfast, but you seem to be getting around alright on your own"

"I woke up feeling much better, just a bit of a headache but I think I'm just dehydrated. Some pain killers and I'll be fine" she explained closing her door.

She turned around realizing Inuyasha hadn't backed up to give her space and she nearly collided with his chest again, looking up her eyes connected with his, but he didn't move. He sucked in a deep breath through his nose his eyes became hooded as his gaze softened.

Those piercing golden eye's peaked through the slits and he began to lean into her a little never breaking eye contact. His breath tickled her face and suddenly the corridor was alight with electricity. Static air collected at the back of her neck making the hair stand on end, her back met the door behind her but he continued to slowly fill in the space between them.

Kagome quickly placed her hand on his chest and pushed past him, choosing to ignore the electricity shooting through her body or the butterflies in her stomach.

"Come on, we'll be late for breakfast" she laughed and turned heading for the stairs at a quick pace, she didn't dare look back in case her blushing red face gave him any signs of her twisting stomach or thumping heart.

Kagome arrived at the breakfast table finding Yuna dressed in a little school uniform, she had a white shirt and navy skirt on with little white ankle socks. As expected, she was furiously drawing in her colouring book and Kagome laughed at the mess of crayons strewn across the table.

"Good morning" she announced to the room as Rin sat down next to her daughter and not far behind was a stern looking Youkai Kagome knew to be the expecting father, Sesshomaru seemed to be wound very tight his shoulders tense and his eyes always on his pregnant mate. Rin wasn't due for another 2 months and looking rather uncomfortable about it, she leaned back in the chair placing a cold rag on her head.

"Still not feeling well?" she asked Rin sitting next to Yuna, Rin opened her tired eyes and sighed heavily.

"No, the twins kept me up all night moving around and kicking my ribs and now I'm awake they're asleep. Thanks a lot, you two" she said placing her hands on her engorged stomach, Kagome gave her a pained smile before grabbing her glass of water and her painkillers from her pocket.

She tried to open the small canister, but it was near impossible, no matter how hard she pressed the lid down it refused to turn and open. Shaking it hoping to loosen it, it was suddenly removed from her hands and Inuyasha twisted it open in one strong motion.

He handed it back to her without a word and went to sit down at the end of the table, Kagome managed to mutter a thank you but still couldn't look at him directly. He made her feel things she hadn't felt in a long time, not since her ex-boyfriend up and left her not long after her family died.

He couldn't handle her depression and she let him go thinking he deserved better, it was how he left that took her off guard. Like he was angry at her for some reason and just stopped answering her texts and calls, he moved away not long after and she hadn't seen him since.

Inuyasha was bringing forth those silly feeling's again, like she was that 16-year-old schoolgirl once again crushing on her classmate. She smiled to herself shaking off the feelings for now, she didn't have time to worry about thing's like this she had to get better and get back to working.

She noticed Sesshomaru wasn't wearing his usual attire of suit pants and a shirt like Inuyasha was, he was dressed in casual lounging clothes and wearing a pair of slippers. His legs where crossed as he sipped his coffee reading the financial section of the newspaper, Rin was still wearing her pyjamas and Yuna was ready for school.

"Not going to work today Sesshomaru?" she asked him directly, worried she was disturbing the quite youkai, but she barely heard him speak at all.

The youkai looked up from his paper, a similar gold piercing her very soul as he took another sip of his coffee.

"Rin is feeling unwell and having the presence of the pups sire helps calm them down so she can rest, I'm staying off work until she is feeling better so Inuyasha is going in to help father with his accounts today" Sesshomaru explained.

"I see, so does that work even when the babies are born?" she asked wanting to learn more as he took another sip of his coffee.

"Practically yes, up until a certain age anyway. Yuna no longer needs our presence to feel secure as she has acknowledged her pack being the people at this table and other members we have taken in"

"Who else is a member of your pack then?"

"Mostly other people who are close to our family like Sango and Miroku, who are actually late for breakfast" he said looking at his watch, the doorbell suddenly rang, and Kagome spotted Izayoi heading to answer the door.

A young man stepped through wearing a suit and carrying a bunch of roses, he handed them to Izayoi happily, but Kagome's eyes turned to the woman coming through the door. A person she hasn't seen in many years past the threshold and hugged Izayoi tightly as they entered the house.

The young woman casually looked in her direction and her eyes went wide in shock and confusion; Sango came over so fast Kagome didn't have time to get out of her seat before the young woman practically through herself at her.

Kagome grimaced as her bad foot landed on the floor to steady herself, but she welcomed Sango's death grip.

"Kami-Kagome, what are you doing here? It's so good to see you" Sango nearly yelled down her ear pulling back and examining her head to toe, her lips pulled back in a massive smile.

"Same, I can't believe you just walked through the door. How've you been?" Kagome greeted in kind to her childhood friend, she couldn't believe the odds of meeting Sango again. She had moved away when they were young but the pair had lost contact over the years, that was more her fault because of all the stuff happening in her life.

"I'm doing great, what on earth are you doing here?" she asked examining her friend, Kagome watched the smile fade a little when she spotted her crutch that had clattered to the ground in her haste to meet her.

"You're hurt! Don't tell me you where the one who saved Yuna from the collision, Kami Kagome you're a freaking hero" Sango said gleefully and pulled her back in for another hug, she returned it happily feeling the memories of their childhood together returning.

"Oh-so this is the infamous hero" the guy said looking over Sango's shoulder, Sango pulled back and gestured for him to come over.

"Miroku, this is Kagome my childhood friend back from home and this guy Kagome is my fiancé Miroku. We met not long after I arrived in Tokyo and have been glued together ever since" Sango explained but Kagome was already pulled into another hug by Miroku.

"Nice to meet you Kagome and might I say a particular lovely young lady you are" Miroku said and Kagome was well aware of the hand suddenly creeping lower down her back, she was about to push back when Inuyasha materialized out of nowhere and gently removed the young man from her person.

"Enough Miroku, do you usually do that in front of your fiancé?" he asked with a growl and Miroku looked at him shocked before a smug smile spread across his face.

"Well Inuyasha, I didn't think you cared so much. I'm all your's big boy" he said throwing himself into the hanyou's arms and whispered something into his ear. Kagome watched the hanyou look directly at her and his face blushed furiously as he pushed Miroku off him.

"Shut up and sit down, you're late for breakfast as usual" Inuyasha grumbled and quickly headed back to his seat.

Izayoi walked in carrying a plate of bacon and eggs with Taisho not far behind with a giant stack of toast and a pot of tea, the family settled in for their breakfast.

Sango sat next to Kagome and the pair chatted to the table about old times when they used to play together.

"So, what are you doing in Tokyo Kagome, do you have a job here" Sango asked as Kagome buttered her toast, she stopped for a moment realizing that Sango had no idea what happened back home.

"Well I moved here a few years ago to work and I was on my way to work when I spotted Yuna walking out into the street and the next thing I know I was waking up in the hospital"

"How come you haven't gone home to recover?"

"I-I err, I'm guessing you don't know what happened to my family after you left. My mother, brother and grandfather died in a car crash a few years ago and my father just sort of up and left so I'm working to try and keep the family shrine from getting repossessed" Kagome went silent trying to hold the wave of emotion that threatened to flow over, she thought she had a good grasp on it by now but she couldn't stop the few tears that fell.

She heard Sango gasp and slapped her hand on her mouth in shock, the woman said no more and gently pulled her into a hug. Kagome buried her head into Sango's shoulder and welcomed the contact from an old friend.

"Oh Kagome, I'm so sorry. I had no idea any of this had happened, me and my big mouth" Sango profusely apologized repeatedly.

"No, it's alright Sango. You had no idea and I'm not sad to remember them" The woman smiled at each other and they wrapped up breakfast quickly before the doorbell rung announcing Kaede's entrance.
