Chapter 22: Hero Killer
Author's Note: This is by far the longest chapter I've written so far! 8,000 words! Honestly, this was a tricky arc to write since there weren't many segments I could end at to set up for the next chapter. In order to fix that, I just decided to make it an extra long chapter. Honestly, it messes up the consistency, but I'm still happy with how it turned out.
Anyway, I also wanna mention a few things. First of all, I am sticking by the four moves per Pokemon. I also saw a comment saying that this arc should include Riolu and Combusken learning new moves! I actually considered that, but this arc also focused heavily on Deku learning his Full Cowling ability, so I didn't really know where to put that in. Don't worry though! I have a similar idea for that in the future, only more extreme!
Another thing. As I said before, I'm gonna start slowing down how often I post these chapters. We've finally reached the latest chapter I've written. As you're reading this though, I'm likely working on the next chapter! Unfortunately, I can't write full chapters in a single day. While I won't be posting chapters daily anymore, I'll still be posting them once or twice a week or so! I hope you understand.
That's all for now! Leave a review if you can. It genuinely means a lot to me. Enjoy!
The rest of the internships were interesting to say the least. Katsuki had been picked out by the Number Four ranked Hero, Best Jeanist. He and his Accelgor were a powerful pair, there was no doubt about that. It was just that… maybe this wasn't the best agency for Katsuki. He was an extremely stubborn boy, and Jeanist was an extremely stern teacher. He styled his hair, ordered him to do exactly as he said, and Katsuki didn't like it at all.
Ochako's internship was going much better. She had been training with the Pro Hero Gunhead and his Sawk. She was having a lot of fun training hard with all her Pokemon to become better at hand-to-hand combat. Still, the man was surprisingly cute for what his costume might have suggested.
Eijiro and Tetsutetsu had both coincidentally ended up at the same agency. They were both taken in by Fourth Kind and his Machamp. He didn't cut them any slack and reprimanded them for any slight misstep they may have taken. It was a good learning experience, though.
Momo and Itsuka were both pretty upset with how their internships were going. Their Aegislash and Medicham were itching for some action, but Uwabami and her Seviper were occupied with other things. Rather than being interns, they were more like assistants for her modeling and acting career. Momo insisted that this was just a part of Hero work, but Itsuka knew she was in denial.
While all this was happening, what All Might thought would be a nice week to rest was quickly interrupted by a bigger issue. "Sorry to interrupt your break, All Might." Detective Tsukauchi said. The Hero smiled and shook his head. "It's no problem at all, Tsukauichi." He said. "So did you get any information?"
"Among the group of Villains that attacked the students at the USJ, you must remember Nomu, right?" The Detective asked. All Might simply nodded. Nomu was the monster of a fusion that pushed him past his limit.
"We did a DNA sample on him and found something. Apparently, he wasn't just made up of Pokemon." Tsukauichi said, surprising the Hero. "We're not requesting your help on this situation since the information may get leaked, but I felt the need to tell you. It's a clue that'll help us find the person behind this!" All Might leaned forward as he took mental notes.
"Nomu remained unresponsive for the time he was placed in the facility. He never attempted to speak or even move. It isn't like he's choosing not to respond though. His brain is just literally not working. As for what we found..." The Detective placed a picture of a person down on the table. "We found that this man's served as some kind of base for the creature. He was a lowly thug."
"So this'll lead us to the man behind this how?" All Might asked. Tsukauichi leaned forward and looked at All Might in the eyes. "Listen, there were several Pokemon and even a human were found in this thing. I promise you, this doesn't just happen naturally. Try to remember, who do you think could have done this?"
All Might's eyes widened in horror as he realized what the detective was trying to say. "You can't mean..."
"Consider the situation, Yagi." He said. "There is a man out there who is creating fusions of Pokemon and humans. This is a reasonable thing to think of."
All Might walked over to the window and, in a fit of pure anger, he entered his Muscle Form. "He's on the move again… that man..."
They were now approaching the end of the third day of the internships. Gran Torino and Hawlucha had been training hard with Izuku and his Pokemon, forcing them past their limit in order to help them master One for All. While he hadn't managed to take down Hawlucha yet, the three were learning quickly.
"Let's call it a day." Torino said as he returned Hawlucha to his Pokeball. Izuku, still exhausted, did the same with his Pokemon. "We can't keep training like this. You'll develop weird habits if you only fight me."
Izuku stood back up and shook his head. "But I still need to learn how to control this power! Please, I need to keep training!"
"No! We've done enough!" Gran Torino smiled and crossed his arms. "Get your costume on. How about we move onto phase two?"
Once they were both ready, Torino had informed Izuku that they were going on patrol. If he wanted to truly get the hang of One for All, what better way than to fight against Villains themselves. They'd never learn to actually fight if he only practiced against Hawlucha.
"This'll be a good experience for taking on different situations. This is an internship after all, right? Fighting Villains is a given." Izuku was pretty nervous. He wasn't at all prepared to go up against people who had actual intent to hurt him and others.
Torino saw the boy's troubled face and smiled. "Don't worry. You've gone up against much bigger threats than anything we're doing tonight."
The Hero called a taxi and he began explaining the plan as they drove to the station. "We'll be travelling a bit far, though. There aren't many people here so the crime rate is pretty low. The higher the population, the higher the crime rate. That's why there are so many agencies in the city. In Shibuya, minor Villain troubles are an everyday occurrence."
Izuku was surprised to hear where they were going. Initially, he was pretty nervous. Shibuya was a huge landmark, even for those from outside Japan. But to get to Shibuya, they'd have to take the bullet train from Kofu to Shinjuku. That means they'd be passing through Hosu City… that's where Tenya was after all. Izuku wondered how he was doing. Little did they know, the League of Villains had something in store for the cold city.
Stain, Tomura, and Kurogiri all stood on the roof of a tall building overlooking the city. "Hosu City's a lot nicer than I thought." Tomura said, crossing his arms. "So what's your plan here?" He asked Stain.
"I plan to reform this city. In order to do that, we'll have to make some sacrifices." The Hero Killer said. "So that's the unfinished business you were speaking of?" Kurogiri asked.
The Villain nodded. "That's pretty perceptive of you. To be a Hero is simply a title that should be reserved for those who have done great things! There are too many so-called "Heroes" that are only there to be worshipped!" He pulled out a Pokeball and sent out his Bisharp. "Until the world realizes this mistake, I will continue to be here!" The two jumped onto another building and down into an alleyway before disappearing.
Tomura let out a sigh. "After all that talk, he's just doing nothing more than a grassroots movement. What a guy..." He mocked the Hero Killer. "You can't make fun of him too much. The crime rate has gone down in the cities that Stain has appeared in. One critic analyzed that it was because of him that many Heroes are now receiving criticism." Kurogiri clarified.
"As expected, we simply don't agree with each other. He's pretty annoying too." Tomura said. "Kurogiri, bring them in."
The man sent out his Alakazam and three Nomu teleported in. One seemed to be made up of the body of a Machoke but with the head of a Galvantula giving it the name Spider. The other one seemed to have the wings and claws of an Aerodactyl with his limbs resembling that of a Golduck. This one was given the name Wings. Finally, there was a larger Nomu that seemed to be made up of the body of a Pangoro and the head of a Rhydon. Kurogiri simply named this one Horn. All three of them had the signature Nomu feature though: an exposed brain. "This'll be a competition, Stain! I'll crush your honor and pride."
They began their assault just as Izuku and Torino were passing through Hosu. It wasn't everyday the young boy got to ride on a bullet train, so this was a nice experience. "It'll be night by the time the train arrives. Is that alright?" Izuku asked.
"The night's more fun! More action." Torino smiled and nodded his head. Not exactly what Izuku would call fun… regardless, passing through Hosu made him pretty worried. He had sent a message to Tenya, but he hadn't replied yet despite reading it. Normally, he replied within three minutes of receiving the message.
"That building just exploded?"
"Really? Where?"
Izuku and Torino looked back at the passengers. "What's happening?" Did they say a building exploded? What was going on. "Everyone! Please brace yourself!" The woman over the speaker said as the train suddenly stopped.
Out of nowhere, the wall of the train exploded and a Hero was sent rocketing to the other side. Suddenly, the Spider Nomu appeared, terrifying Izuku. "Nomu?!"
"Kid, stay here!" Torino sent out Hawlucha and the two pushed Spider out of the building, rocketing into the city. "Gran Torino!" Izuku ran to the whole where the Nomu had emerged and watched in horror as he saw the city burning. "What's happening?!"
While the crew were trying to calm everyone down, Izuku saw this as his chance to get out. He sent out both Riolu and Combusken and the three headed for the city. It didn't look exactly the same, but that was a Nomu, no doubt. Regardless, they didn't have a lot of time. Now was the best time to put their training to use.
"Everyone, get ready!" Izuku shouted. The three surged One for All in their bodies just like they had trained for. "One for All: Full Cowling!" They all leapt into the air from the tracks and onto the roof of a nearby building.
Best of all, their legs weren't broken! They began running again. All Izuku could do for now was pray that Gran Torino and Hawlucha were safe.
"We're on our way!" Manual said into his earpiece. "Tenya, we need to go!" The two began running toward the burning city, but something wasn't right. This couldn't have been Stain. He wouldn't do something so flashy.
As they were running, something in an alleyway caught the boy's attention. His eyes widened in shock as his vision adjusted to the dark. Without hesitation, he sent out Skarmory and the two ran in.
In that alleyway, Stain had the Hero Native pinned against the wall while Bisharp stood over his bleeding Xatu. "Those fools are out and about too? I'll take care of them later. For now, I'll do what I have to." He called Bisharp over to them and the Pokemon readied an attack.
"I… I can't move..." Native said, struggling to even reach out to stop the Pokemon. "You bastard… die…!" Bisharp's Blades extended and turned into a silver metal. "If you truly are a Hero, then choose your last words wisely. This is the end of the road."
Just before Bisharp could land the finishing blow, Tenya's Skarmory appeared and used Steel Wing. The Sword Blade Pokemon managed to parry the attack allowing him to easily land a powerful Brick Break on Tenya himself when the trainer tried to jump them.
The young student was knocked to the ground when Stain let out a sigh. "A child with a suit?" He whispered to himself. "Go away! This is no place for a kid!" Tenya looked up and recognized the man. This was him alright. "You're the Hero Killer, right?! Answer me!" He stood up and Skarmory joined him. "I've been looking for you. I-"
Bisharp cut Tenya off and brought his arm blades close to the boy's face. "Those are the eyes of someone seeking revenge." Stain said. "Watch what you say, boy. Even a child could become my next target."
Tenya clenched his fist tighter. "Are you saying I'm not even worthy of being one of your targets? Listen, murderer. I'm the younger brother of one of the Heroes you hurt. The younger brother of a wonderful Hero. I came here to stop you in his place. Don't forget my name..." He stepped forward and pushed Bisharp out of the way. "I am Ingenium! In the name of my brother, I shall defeat you!"
"Is that so?" Stain looked into the boy's eyes then back to Bisharp. He gave his Pokemon a knowing glance before looking back to the boy. "Die."
The rest of the city wasn't faring well. While all the Heroes were busy fighting off Horn and Wings at the center of the city, Hawlucha and Torino were alone in dealing with Spider. Hawlucha used Flying Press on the creature before being forced to retreat once more.
"How long has it been since we've had a real battle, Hawlucha?" Torino smiled as he quickly avoided another swing from the fusion. "We've got ourselves into quite the situation." He said. Hawlucha came in and struck the Pokemon from behind with a Poison Jab, making him stumble. The Nomu was fast, but Hawlucha could still handle it.
Spider began crawling toward a group of civilians, and as Hawlucha was about to go in with another Flying Press, a stream of flames shot out, hitting the monster. The Wrestling Pokemon was forced to stop and jump back.
"I was looking for the Hero Killer, but it looks like I came at a bad time." Endeavor and his Charizard stepped forward, continuing their attack on Spider. "I don't know who you are, old man, but you can leave the rest to me."
"Is that… why is he here?" One of the civilians asked.
Endeavor simply smiled. "Isn't it obvious? It's because I'm a Hero." With Endeavor and Torino taking care of Spider, they could leave Horn and Wings to the rest of the Heroes.
Izuku decided to head to the center of the city where the crowd of people seemed to be running away from. If he followed them, surely he'd find just what was happening. While he and his Pokemon were making their way there, a sense of unease filled him. If these Nomu even had a fraction of the power the one All Might faced, then they were in for a bad time. The entire city was in danger, including Tenya!
Then, he heard something. "Tenya! Where are you?!" Someone seemed to be calling out for his friend. He followed the voice, only to see a bus falling from the sky and crushing a car right beside him. The crash caused a gigantic explosion allowing Wings and Horn to catch the Heroes off-guard and continue their attack. No matter what they did, these Nomu were stronger than any of them could handle.
"Manual! Help us put out the fire!" One Hero called out. Manual?! That was the one Tenya was working for.
"Damn, why'd you have to run off at a time like this! Simipour, use Hydro Pump!" The Monkey Pokemon nodded and shot out pressurized water from her mouth, putting out some of the fire.
Was Izuku hearing this right? Tenya had run off at a time like this? The focus minded class representative?
"Kid, you're in the way! Stand back!" One Hero told Izuku. "Follow the police to the evacuation center! We've got things covered here!"
Then, he realized exactly what the boy wanted to do. Hosu City… Nomus… Tenya Iida… Hosu and the Hero Killer… there was no way! "Riolu, Combusken! We have to help him!" Both Riolu and Combusken nodded before running off.
Back at the alleyway, Stain's Bisharp was about to land one last Metal Claw on Tenya before killing the boy, but Skarmory wouldn't allow that to happen so easily. "We won't allow it!" The Flying Type flew back up from the ground and used Drill Peck, narrowly missing their target.
"So you're Ingenium's brother? I allowed him to live to spread my message." Stain ordered Bisharp to use Metal Claw. The Pokemon did as told and left a nasty cut right on Tenya's shoulder, forcing him to the ground. Stain placed his foot over the boy's head and scoffed. "You're weak." Skarmory tried to save his trainer with a Steel Wing, but Bisharp simply dodged the attack and slammed the Pokemon into a wall.
Stain quickly pulled out a knife and jammed it into Tenya's other shoulder. "You and you're brother are both weak." He said. The boy let out a scream of pain. This was the difference between Pokemon battles and the real world. Villains didn't want to just hurt your Pokemon, they wanted to hurt you. "You're both fake Heroes."
"Shut up!" Tenya shouted, trying to endure the pain. "You paralyzed him from the waist down. Because of you, he can't continue being a Hero! My brother rescued and led many people… You had no right to take that away from him! He was a wonderful Hero! He inspired so many! I'll kill you!"
"Aren't you gonna save him first?" Stain asked, pointing to the bleeding Native on the ground. "As a Hero, isn't your job to save others? Satisfying your own self-interest and allowing hate to control you. That is the furthest you can be from being a Hero. That's why you'll never be a Hero."
Tenya painfully pulled the knife from his shoulder. He and Skarmory began trying to stand up once more, but Bisharp had other plans. "Use Thunder Wave." Stain said. The Sword Blade Pokemon shot out a small jolt of electricity at both the trainer and his Pokemon. Suddenly, neither of them were able to move their bodies at all. This wasn't like normal paralysis in battles… no. At least then, you'd be able to move slightly. Here, they couldn't move at all. This Pokemon was powerful…
Stain held the knife above Tenya's head. "Goodbye. Your death will be the proper sacrifice for this community."
"Shut up!" Tenya tried to move, but he couldn't. "No matter what, you're just a Villain who hurt my brother!"
Just before Stain could finish the job, he heard something. He turned his head and saw Riolu and Combusken jumping from wall to wall toward him. Bisharp jumped forward to try and protect Stain, but they were both pushed back by Riolu's Force Palm and Combusken's Double Kick.
Izuku stepped forward and joined his Pokemon. "M-Midoriya..." Tenya said, shocked that his classmate had come to his rescue. "We're here to save you, Iida!" The green-haired boy said. Riolu and Combsuken took a stance as Stain and Bisharp regained their balance.
Stain looked at Izuku and his two Pokemon. This was the kid Tomura had shown him. If this kid had caught the attention of the League of Villains, then he was a threat for sure.
"Midoriya… why are you here?" Tenya asked, still unable to move. "I saw in the news that at least 60% of the Hero Killer's victims are killed in isolated corners of the city. With the attack on the city, this was the perfect time to strike. We searched through every alleyway from the center of the crowd to Manual's agency." Riolu looked back and gave Tenya a thumbs up.
"Can you move?" Izuku asked. "Let's get back to the main road. We need the help of the Pros." Tenya and Skarmory tried moving once more, but to no avail. The Metal Bird cawed in an effort to call for help, but nobody responded. "That Bisharp used Thunder Wave to paralyze us, but it isn't like any kind of status I've seen before. I can't move my body at all..."
"Damn, it's just like the news said. He's got a special tactic." Izuku turned his head and saw Native and his Xatu bleeding on the ground. "There's someone else here too! If it were just one, Riolu and Combusken would be able to get them out..." He whispered to himself.
"Stay out of this, Midoriya!" Tenya shouted, startling Izuku. "This doesn't concern you!" The boy simply looked at his classmate in pure shock. "What are you saying?" Riolu and Combusken seemed distubred by the statement too. Their friend was bleeding on the ground unable to move, yet he was telling them to essentially stay out of the way…
"So this friend came to save you." Stain said. "What a touching story. Still, it's my duty to kill you. In a fight, only the strong survive." He gave them a menacing glance that made all of them freeze in fear. "What will you do?" Stain asked. This man wasn't like the Villains at the USJ. No, this man was a true murderer.
Izuku turned to Riolu and Combusken and nodded. The two saw him slowly reaching for his phone in his pocket and nodded back. In order to create a distraction, they used Vacuum Wave and Ember respectively. The attacks didn't do much, but it allowed Izuku to send his location to the class group chat. Right now, all they needed to do was buy some time until someone showed up.
Stain wasn't too bothered by the attack. It had barely done anything to Bisharp, but he was skeptical of who this boy was. The League of Villains took note of him, so he was very interested to see just what Izuku could do.
"I told you to leave, Midoriya! Run away! Please, lea-"
"That's not what a Hero should do!" Izuku cut Tenya off, surprising everyone there. "There's a lot I want to tell you, but I'll save it for later." Riolu and Combusken stepped forward and got ready. "All Might once told me that stepping into other people's business is what makes a Hero." Stain's eyes widened in glee. He saw the fear in this kid's eyes, but he was a true Hero!
With that, the two Pokemon dashed forward. "Bisharp, use Metal Claw!" The Pokemon's blades extended and gleamed with a dark energy. However, just before he could strike, Combusken stopped and used Ember. Though it didn't do much damage, it stopped the Pokemon's attack and allowed Riolu to dash under Bisharp and land an attack from above.
Bisharp tried to use Thunder Wave, but Riolu managed to evade the attack. "Force Palm: Detroit Smash!" Izuku shouted out as he mimicked Riolu's actions. The Pokemon landed a powerful attack on Bisharp that created a small shockwave afterward. Tenya watched in awe as his classmate's Pokemon landed the hit. That move… it was just like Katsuki's in training…
"Heh. Nice try, kid." Stain smiled as he watched Riolu and Combusken collapse to the ground. Izuku looked at his two Pokemon and saw something on them. They both had the smallest of cuts on their bodies. Bisharp must have managed to cut them during their attacks, when Combusken used Ember and right when Riolu dashed under him. He must have used Thunder Wave right there to paralyze them!
Izuku tried running and fighting himself, but Bisharp simply used Brick Break and slammed the boy into the wall. "That was impressive, but you didn't read my movement. You simply had your Pokemon move out of Bisharp's field of vision so you could land an attack. That was your strategy, wasn't it?" Stain asked.
Bisharp slowly walked over to Tenya and extended his arm blades. "There are a lot of people who talk big about being Heroes but you're worth keeping alive, unlike this kid here." The Arm Blade Pokemon held one of his blades up to Tenya's face.
However, just before he could finish the job, he was stopped once again by another attack. A stream of flames came in their direction, forcing Stain and Bisharp to jump out of the way. "One after another. This is starting to get annoying." He said as the smoke cleared.
Shoto and his Ninteales stepped forward, along with the Shiny Eevee Izuku had encountered before. "Midoriya, you really need to include more details in these situations. It made me late."
"T-Todoroki, you too?" Tenya asked. "You're using Fire!" Izuku said, smiling as he saw flames coming from Ninetale's mouth.
"I didn't know what you were trying to say when you sent that message. It wasn't until Eevee here kept calling out to me that I finally realized what was happening. You mentioned you met her before, right?"
Izuku looked at the Shiny Eevee and smiled. Had it followed them all the way here? Who knows, but what was important was that she had saved them right now. Had it not been for her, Shoto would have never shown up.
Ninetales shot a beam of Ice from her mouth, freezing the ground. Stain and Bisharp managed to jump above the attack, but this allowed Ninetales and Eevee to jump in and bring everyone to a safer spot where they wouldn't be hurt by their attacks.
"Don't worry the Pros will be here soon!" Shoto said as Ninetales shot out another Flamethrower. An Orange aura covered Eevee as she dashed forward, landing a powerful hit on Bisharp. "That was Veevee Volley." Izuku whispered to himself.
"I won't let you kill them, Hero Killer." Shoto said, stepping forward with Eevee and Ninetales. "Todoroki! Don't let him get near you! Bisharp's paralysis is stronger than anything I've seen before! If he manages to hit you, you could be immobilized"
"Then let's keep our distance-" Suddenly, Bisharp used Air Slash, distracting Shoto and the Pokemon long enough for him to close the distance. "You've got some good friends, Ingenium!" Stain shouted as Bisharp went in for a Metal Claw. Eevee used Freezy Frost to intercept the attack, but Bisharp tried using Brick Break with his other arm. However, just before the attack could land, Ninetales used Flamethrower to force their enemy back.
Ninetales used Ice Beam while Eevee went for another Freezy Frost to try and push Stain and Bisharp back even further, but the Arm Blade Pokemon managed to cut through their attacks with Metal Claw.
"Why… both of you… why?" Tenya began trembling as he watched Ninetales and Eevee desperately fight off Bisharp. "Stop, please! I'm here to continue my brother's name. I have to do it…! I have to kill him!"
"You inherited it? That's weird." Shoto said as Ninetales used a Blizzard to force Bisharp away. "The Ingenium I know never let this happen to his Pokemon. Look at him." Tenya turned to Skarmory and saw his Pokemon in a lot of pain. Had he been so selfish that he forgot about his own Pokemon…?
"You're pretty stupid if you think you can beat me like that." Stain said as Bisharp continued cutting through their Ice attacks. Shoto could really only rely on those moves though because of Bisharp's speed. Ninetales wasn't as proficient with her Fire moves yet, but it looked like they had no choice.
"We'll see about that! Flamethrower!" Ninetales got ready to shoot out her flames, but just before she managed to use the attack, Bisharp used Flash Cannon, pushing the three of them back.
"But you're not bad either, kid!" Stain shouted as Bisharp used Metal Claw right on Native himself. However, just before he could land the attack, Riolu jumped up and grabbed Bisharp, dragging him along the wall.
"Riolu!" Shoto shouted out as he helped Eevee and Ninetales get back up. "My Pokemon can move again!" Izuku shouted back as Combusken leapt up and used Double Kick, slamming Bisharp into the wall.
"So there's a time limit?" Shoto asked. "N-No… they were the last to get paralyzed… but neither of us or our Pokemon can move yet..."
Riolu and Combusken tried to go in for another attack, but Bisharp managed to use Brick Break to intercept them. "Riolu! Combusken! Move!" The Pokemon looked up and jumped to the side as Ninetales shot out a powerful Ice Beam, pushing Bisharp away from them.
Izuku stood back up and joined Shoto. "If my Pokemon are able to move now, that means that we aren't dealing with any normal kind of Paralysis. Normally, you can't cure a Paralysis status without a Paralyze Heal or some kind of move." He said. "So if this is on a time limit, it probably lasts longer on Pokemon weak to Electric type moves."
"X-Xatu and Skarmory are both Flying types..." Native said. Stain smiled and nodded his head. "You've got it. Using Thunder Wave in a special way, Bisharp is able to lock the muscles of most Pokemon. It is a temporary effect, though it lasts longer on Flying and Water Pokemon." He explained, confirming Izuku's theory.
"His Bisharp is fast enough to dodge Ninetales' attacks. Don't give him any openings. It might be best to keep him at a distance until the Pros arrive." Shoto said. Izuku took one glance at his Ninetales and shook his head. "Ninetales doesn't look like she's in good condition. Riolu and Combusken will go in. Support us from behind."
He turned to Eevee and smiled. "Eevee, lend me your strength." He said. The Silver Pokemon nodded and began radiating an orange energy.
Shoto nodded and he and Ninetales got ready. "This is risky, but yeah. We'll protect them!" Tenya only watched as his friends and their Pokemon got ready to attack. "One versus five? This won't be easy." Stain said as Bisharp extended his arm blades.
Riolu and Combusken moved first, bouncing from wall to wall to try and confused Bisharp. Combusken managed to hit the Pokemon, but Bisharp simply took the hit and tried to cut Riolu. Ninetales shot an Ice Beam that managed to protect Riolu, and Eevee ran in with a Veevee Volley, narrowly missing the attack.
Shoto could only clench his fist as he saw Tenya and Skarmory struggle to get up. He understood exactly the kind of anger his classmate was facing right now. Those eyes… they were just like his no more than a few days ago. He knew how narrowed someone's vision could become when filled with that much anger.
Bisharp managed to cut and Paralyze Riolu. Ninetales tried to fight back with a Fire Blast, but Bisharp was too fast. "This bastard… Bisharp's moving completely different!" Izuku shouted.
"Please stop..." Tenya said. "I'm already..."
"If you want us to stop, then stand up!" Shoto shouted, stomping his foot on the ground. Bisharp managed to push Combusken and Eevee out of the way with Brick Break, but Ninetales kept him from getting to them with a Blizzard.
"I only have one thing to say to you, Iida." Shoto and Ninetales both looked at Stain with eyes of determination. "Keep your eyes focused, and become the Hero you aim to be!"
As Ninetales shot out another Fire Blast, assisted by a Sizzly Slide from Eevee and Ember from Combusken, Tenya only clenched his fist in frustration. This isn't what Tensei would have wanted at all… Tenya's actions now… they were a disgrace to the Ingenium name! He needed to redeem himself!
The Hero Killer was right, Tenya wasn't a Hero. He was immature and held grudges, unlike his brother. Tensei wasn't a Hero because he beat up Villains, he was a Hero because he saved people! That is why he admired Ingenium! His brother had left him with this name, and Tenya intended to do him justice! He too, would be a Hero!
Then, he managed to move his fingers. He slowly turned his head and saw Skarmory slowly getting up as well. He smiled and nodded. "I'm sorry, Skarmory. I've been a fool this entire time. Let's repay Midoriya and Todoroki for helping us. What do you say?" Skarmory cawed and finally stood back up on his two feet. Tenya got up as well, leaning against the wall for support.
"Ice and Fire!" Stain said as Bisharp dodged another Flamethrower from Ninetales. "You've got a special Nientales there, but you're too focused on your Pokemon!" He shouted as he pulled out a knife. Just before the knife could hit Shoto's face, Skarmory flew in front of the boy. "Drill Peck!" Tenya shouted. The Flying Type Pokemon spun in place and dashed forward, blocking the knife and drilling right into Bisharp.
The Arm Blade Pokemon was pushed further away from them, and he was finally beginning to show signs of fatigue. "So the boy and his Skarmory are stronger than Native?" Stain whispered.
"It wore off?!" Shoto asked as Tenya joined the two trainers. "That Paralysis isn't all that great." He continued, mocking the Hero Killer.
Tenya stood up straight and looked the Hero Killers dead in the eyes. "Todoroki, Midoriya. I'm sorry for dragging you into this. But now, I won't allow you guys or your Pokemon to get hurt anymore."
Stain clenched his fist. "It's useless for you to try and change your stance now. Human nature can't be changed so easily. You will always be a fake who prioritizes himself! You're the cancer of this society of Heroes, and I am going to fix that."
"Iida, don't listen to this murderer's logic." Shoto said, however, Tenya shook his head. "No, what he says is true. Right now, I don't have the right to call myself a Hero. Even so, I cannot give up. If I give up, then Ingenium will die!"
"That's out of the question!" Stain said, Bisharp instantly dashing forward. "Veevee Volley!" Izuku shouted. Eevee dashed forward and intercepted the Pokemon, allowing Ninetales to use Fire Blast to keep them away.
"Get out of here! Stain is after me!" Native shouted. "Well he isn't exactly gonna let us do that!" Shoto shouted back, looking up and seeing Bisharp hanging on the wall. He jumped to the side, baiting Ninetales into an attack. "Ice Beam!" The boy shouted. Despite her speed, Bisharp still managed to evade the attack.
Shoto and Izuku both noticed that Stain was giving Bisharp much more reckless commands by this point. He was getting desperate to kill Tenya and Native before the Pros arrived.
"I'll end it here!" Stain shouted, throwing a knife. Skarmory managed to block the weapon from hitting Tenya, but it managed to pierce through his metal skin. "Skarmory!" Shoto and Izuku shouted. The Pokemon simply cawed and stood back up. "Hang in there just a little longer!" Tenya said, painfully pulling the knife out.
Finally, Riolu was able to move once again and the three trainers and their Pokemon all gathered to give this one last push. "Okay, give us an opening. Eevee and Skamory'll go in to finish the job!" Izuku said. All the others nodded and got ready.
Combusken, Riolu, and Ninetales let out an Ember, Vacuum Wave, and Flamethrower respectively, providing an opening for Skarmory and Eevee to land their hits.
"Brave Bird!"
"Veevee Volley!"
Both Pokemon dashed into the air, covering themselves in orange energy. "Just one more hit!" Both Tenya and Izuku said. Shoto clenched his fist and held it in the air. "Go!"
The two Pokemon landed their hits on Bisharp, sending the Pokemon rocketing into the wall. While he was distracted, Combusken and Riolu managed to run in as well and hit Stain with powerful attacks, knocking him out. He had finally let down his guard, and with a single Ice Beam from Ninetales to freeze them, they had finally won.
Just a few short minutes later, the Pros finally arrived. Apparently, Shoto had told Endeavor to direct as many Heroes to the location that Izuku had sent as soon as possible. Because of this, the Hero was left to deal with all three Nomu on his own, which he did with the help of his Charizard.
"Why are you here?!" Torino asked, walking over to Izuku and punching him in the face. "I told you to stay on the train!"
"Who's this?" Shoto asked. "This is Gran Torino. He's the Hero I'm doing my internship with."
"Well, at least you're okay." Torino couldn't help but smile. He must have gotten that reckless nature from Toshinori.
"Hey, isn't that..." One of the Pros pointed to the tied up Stain and they all gasped in shock. "The Hero Killer?!"
While the Pros were contacting Police and an ambulance, Tenya walked over to his two friends and bowed. "You were both hurt because of me. I'm sorry." He said, tears forming in his eyes. "I couldn't see anything because of my anger..."
Izuku shook his head. "I'm sorry too, Iida. This whole thing has been weighing you down, and I never even noticed. I failed you as a friend." He said. Shoto crossed his arms as Tenya continued crying. "You have to keep it together. You're our class rep."
After all was said and done, it looked like the long night was finally over. The police had arrived, and the ambulances were ready to take Native and the three students to the hospital. However, there was one more surprise waiting for them.
Out of nowhere, Wings the Nomu appeared. It was still bleeding, likely injured from its battle with Endeavor's Charizard. It picked up Izuku and carried him into the sky. "Midoriya!" Shoto and Tenya shouted out.
It created a powerful Hurricane that prevented Torino's Hawlucha and the other Pros from reaching them. "Damn, it's got the kid!" One Pro shouted out. Suddenly, they heard a Pokeball open and a small jolt of thunder hit Wings, paralyzing the fusion.
Everyone turned their heads and saw Stain's Bisharp dashing toward Wings, with the Hero Killer himself having cut himself free from his bindings with his knife.
"This society is filled with fake Heroes and criminals who create reckless crimes!" Stain shouted as Bisharp jumped into the air. It used Metal Claw, crashing into the Nomu, bringing all of them down to the ground.
Stain joined Bisharp where they stood over Izuku and the dead Nomu's body. "That is the target of my purge." Native's eyes widened in shock as he realized what the Hero Killer was saying. That must have been what he meant when he said he'd deal with the Villains later…
"Everything… is done to create a righteous society..." Stain said, drool coming from his mouth. Everyone was frozen in fear as Stain and Bisharp took one step forward.
"Did he save the kid?"
"No, he's holding him hostage."
"He killed that thing without hesitation."
Despite knowing what they had to do, none of them could move. They weren't hit by Bisharp's Thunder Wave. No, this was all Stain. They were all too scared to move a muscle.
"Why are you all just standing there?" Endeavor had finally arrived on his Charizard. "The Villain came this way." He said, getting off the back of his Pokemon. "Wait… is that man..."
Stain looked the Pro in the eyes. "Endeavor..." Flames began forming within Charizard's mouth, but Torino stopped them before they could attack. "Wait, Todoroki!" The Hero Killer still had something to say.
Stain's mask fell off and he looked at all of the Heroes. "The Fake Heroes..." Now, his menacing aura didn't just make them scared. They were all terrified. "Must be corrected..." He slowly began walking toward them. The sense of fear they were all feeling couldn't be described… what was happening…?
"Someone must bleed…!" With every step he took, the fear inside all of them grew larger. "Come. Come at me, fakers!" By this point, even Endeavor and Charizard couldn't move.
"There is only one real Hero I'll allow to kill me! All Might!" He took another step, and with that, everyone nearly collapsed. This man… was he even human? He was terrifying. None of them could move a muscle. They were all Heroes, right? So why couldn't they move…?
Then, he stopped. Stain simply stood there, not moving. Saliva dripped from his mouth and his eyes rolled to the back of his head. He had lost consciousness. Seeing this, Bisharp finally gave in and collapsed to the ground. Everybody else collapsed to their knees, not knowing what had just happened.
They would later find out that one of Stain's broken ribs punctured his lung. What had happened there wasn't Bisharp's Thunder Wave or a special ability the Hero Killer might have had. However, at that moment and time… Stain was the only one with any fight left in him.
By the next day, the three students had had their injuries treated. Aside from the knife attacks Tenya had endured, none of them suffered anything too serious. The Pokemon were fine as well, with standard Pokemon Center technology being enough for them.
As they sat in their hospital room, the three students discussed what had happened. "He probably could have killed me if he wanted to." Izuku said, remembering just how close he was to Stain in those final moments. Shoto nodded. "He kept us alive on purpose. He was so intent on killing you, but you still charged at him. I'm impressed." He said, turning to Tenya.
"No, not at all." The boy said. "I… I was reckless." He held up his bandaged hand and showed it to them. "My hand is permanently injured because of the incident. I'll let this serve as a reminder of my own failures as a Hero. From here on out, I'll keep my mind focused." Tenya said. "I'll remember why I've been given the name Ingenium."
Izuku smiled and held up his own scarred hand. "I'm the same, Iida. Let's let our scars be a reminder why we want to be Heroes."
After a few minutes, the door opened, revealing Manual and Gran Torino. "So you're finally up." The old man said. He turned to Izuku and pointed his finger right at his face. "Kid, I really should give you a lecture. But before that, you have another visitor."
A tall, well-dressed man entered the room. He adjusted his tie and turned to the three students. "This is Tsuragamae Kenji, the chief of Hosu police." Torino introduced the man to them. The police was here to see them… this wouldn't be good.
The three of them stood up to greet the officer, but he told them to just stay seated. "You three are the UA students that apprehended the Hero Killer, right?" Chief Kenji asked. "Yes, that's us." Shoto replied.
"The captured Hero Killer is in critical condition with several burns and fractures. His Bisharp isn't faring too well either. The normal Pokemon Center equipment wasn't enough to treat his injuries, so they both had to be rushed to the emergency room." The Chief explained.
"As UA students, you should know that the police placed a high priority on not treating Pokemon like weapons. As such, the Hero profession was created to bridge that gap. Without a license, you aren't allowed to injure another person, even if that person is the Hero Killer. This is a complete violation of the rules placed in this society."
He crossed his arms and let out a sigh. "Because of this, the Heroes Gran Torino, Manual, Endeavor, as well as their agencies along with the three of you must receive strict punishment." Shoto stepped forward and looked the chief right in the eyes.
"Hold on a second. If Iida didn't step in, Native would have been killed. If Midoriya didn't step in, then both of them would have died. Nobody else knew the Hero Killer had shown up again. But I guess we're the bad guys, right? We should have just let them die, right?"
"So the end justifies the means. So long as the result is good, then rules don't matter. Is that what you're saying?" The chief returned the question. Shoto was getting upset now. He took another step forward. "It's a Hero's job to save people!"
Chief Kenji shook his head. "That's why you're still a student. So much for being taught by UA and Endeavor himself..."
"This pig!"
"Hold up, kid!" Torino placed his hand in between the two and pushed Shoto back. "You'll want to hear him out on this one."
The chief cleared his throat once more. "As I said, under normal circumstances, you'd have to receive severe punishments… if this information were to be revealed to the public." The three waited silently as he continued. "If it's made public, there's no doubt that the citizens would praise you, but the punishment would be completely inevitable."
The chief adjusted his tie and looked at the three boys. "On the other hand, if this information isn't made public, then we could attribute the Hero Killer's injuries to Endeavor's Charizard. There were very few witnesses, so the violation could be kept among us. However, nobody will know the challenges you boys overcame. Which would you prefer?" He asked them.
"As for me, I don't want to ruin your futures over a mistake." He gave them a thumbs up. Manual smiled and bowed his head. "Either way, we have to take responsibility for being negligent supervisors." He said. Tenya walked over to his mentor and bowed his head. "I'm sorry." He apologized.
Manual simply laughed and lightly hit Tenya on the head. "Yes, you caused trouble for me and many other people. Now you know, so don't do it again." He said. Both Izuku and Shoto apologized as well.
"I presume that means you've made your decision." Chief Kenji said. "Because of this, you won't receive the praise you undoubtedly would have gotten. However..." he bowed down and brought his hands together. "As a fellow protector of peace, allow me to be the one to thank you. You boys have done something truly amazing and don't you forget that. I am truly proud and excited to see what your generation of Heroes has to offer."
Shoto simply sighed and looked away. "You should've started with that." He said, getting a laugh from Tenya and Izuku.
More time passed and eventually, the three boys were left alone again. "Nobody will know it was us who beat the Hero Killer." Shoto said. The other two nodded. "It's disappointing, but I'd take that over being expelled." Tenya said.
While the three were talking, a small Pokemon climbed up on their window. "Vee!" It said. They all turned their heads and were happy to see the Shiny Eevee. "It's you!" Izuku said, standing up and walking over to the Pokemon.
"If it wasn't for you, Todoroki would never have come. Thank you." He continued. The Eevee purred and jumped onto Izuku's shoulder. "She seems to like you." Tenya said with a smile.
Shoto stood up and looked at the Eevee. "I think she's trying to tell you she wants to join you." He said. Izuku's eyes lit up and he immediately picked up Eevee from his shoulders and held her in front of him. "You wanna join me?" He asked.
Eevee nodded her head excitedly. Izuku set her down and brought out a Pokeball from his bag. He was smart to pack a few extra for the internship. "Okay, here I go! Go, Pokeball!" He threw the Pokeball into the air where Eevee jumped up and hit the button herself.
The ball opened and Eevee went in. One shake… two… three… click! Eevee's been caught! "Yes!" Izuku immediately picked up the Pokeball and sent out his new Pokemon. "Looking forward to working with you, Eevee!" The shiny purred and jumped up and down.
With his team of Riolu, Combusken, and Eevee, along with his new All for One: Full Cowling ability… maybe he could truly compete with the others in his class now. Only time would tell. After all they had been through, perhaps Stain was the push he needed to get on par with everyone else.
However, despite being injured and confined, it seemed like the Hero Killer wasn't done yet. While he himself hadn't done anything since, his influence surely left its mark. There was a viral video, and to say that it didn't catch a couple of criminals' attention...
The whole attack with the Nomu was also unsolved. Torino had called All Might to discuss it. "Without a doubt, this was the doing of the League of Villains. With Stain out of the picture, that video would have attracted more and more Villains to the League. His influence will leave a mark on society for the foreseeable future." He said.
"Toshinori, I know you don't want to do this, but you need to talk to your predecessor about… him."
