Ah yes, welcome back.
This time it's me, DisasterDoodlesInc, who is now the proud holder of three different internet names. I have one for TikTok and Pokemon Go, one for Instagram, and one for Fanfiction and other things. Well, actually there's my gamer tags for Minecraft and Overwatch, and then there's my Snapchat and… you get the idea.
(TikTok and Pokemon Go is 'XingHaiKourai,' Fanfic and other is 'DisasterDoodlesInc,' others i don't feel like sharing right now)
I am legitimately writing this note before the chapter is even written, so whee for me. Idol and I are, probably like many of you, back in school. However, I've got a good amount more time than Idol, so yeah. At the time I'm writing this, which is a couple of days before chapter 7 drops, I just got back from vacation. I'm happy to be back home though.
Fun fact, I've never seen Attack on Titan, but I just thought it would be so funny if Yangchen launched herself across the minefield like that. You'll see.
We, well technically just me, hope you enjoy this chapter!
"Still though, Attack on Titan?"
Yangchen chuckled sheepishly. "It worked, soo… "
"Where'd you learn to walk on tightropes?" It was an impressive skill, after all.
"Back in China, we've got this thing called Lion Dance. It's complicated to explain, but all ya really gotta know is that sometimes my troupe performs stunts. One of those stunts is havin' to walk across a double tightrope under the lion costume."
I sighed. "I have to give you that. Although," My tone became more serious. "Everyone knows my quirk now because of that stunt I pulled."
"Everyone also knows yer a hero thanks to that stunt you pulled."
I quirked an eyebrow. "Huh?"
Yangchen rolled her eyes. "You saved Dekkun. You blinded all the people but not the cameras, you know."
"Oh." Was that why the crowd started cheering really loudly when I had run in? That certainly explained a lot. "And that's why you're the brains of the duo."
Before Yangchen had a chance to answer, Midnight cut in. "All right, 42 participants made it through the race! Now, what's our next event going to be…?"
She rolled the spinner again as we watched with bated breath. A few seconds later, the spinner slowed to a stop.
"...A Human Cavalry Battle!"
I'm sorry, what?
"Yo. Yangchen," Kirishima called. "What's a human cavalry battle?"
"I don't fricken' know, I didn't grow up in Japan!" Yangchen retorted. "Listen to Miss Midnight!"
"The game will be played in teams of up to four," Midnight started explaining. "Each person will have one 'rider' and three 'legs'. Now, each person will have a different point value depending on their placement in the Obstacle Course. 42nd place is 5 points, 41st place is 10 points, and so on."
Yangchen leaned over and whispered to me casually.
"Means you've got a hundred ninety."
"The rider will have a headband with the combined point values of their teammates. The legs have to carry the rider to other teams and steal their headbands. The rider cannot touch the ground or leave the legs. At the end, the top four teams will advance to the next round."
She paused ominously. I gulped unconsciously as her eyes narrowed.
"The first-place winner of the Obstacle Race is worth a grand total of…" She paused for dramatic effect again. "1 million points!"
Holy mother of quirks.
Midoriya paled drastically at that while everyone turned to look at him. I patted him on the shoulder and he glared at me, though it held no heat.
"You'll have ten minutes to make your teams!" Midnight announced. "And your time starts...now!"
Crap, one million points? Poor Midoriya's going to be eaten alive!
"So, Yangchen, what do you say about-"
I looked to my side to find an empty space where Yangchen used to be.
Huh, she must've already gone to make her team.
I looked around for a viable group to team up with. Hmmm, who would be best to team up with? Todoroki, obviously. He's smart and has a flashy quirk, which could get the group noticed by scouts. He's the best choice. However, do I really want him bossing me around? Because let's be honest, even if he doesn't mean to, he always unconsciously takes charge and forgets to listen to everyone else. His leadership is pretty good, but even so.
I noticed Iida going over to Todoroki, who was standing to the side with Kaminari.
I kept thinking. Who else was in the friendgroup? Oh yeah, Midoriya. I mean, he was also going to be watched like a hawk by the scouts, so…
I scanned the crowd for him to find him and Uraraka standing together. That's brilliant! It's always best to be with people you know, especially for something like this.
I jogged over and called them.
"Ochako! Izuku!"
Oh, I forgot to mention this but they both gave Yangchen and me permission to call them by their first names.
"Oh hey Kiraru!" Uraraka waved me over. "We're looking for two more people."
"Great, cuz I really need a group to join," I chuckled. "Team?"
"Team." Midoriya answered this time. "Thanks so much!"
"Don't sweat it."
"Anyway, who else should we bring in?" Uraraka asked, bringing a hand to her chin as she thought.
We thought for a few minutes before I had an idea. I think I gasped out loud because Midoriya looked at me with a hum. "You have an idea?"
"Actually, I do…"
Ten minutes later, all of the teams were positioned along the edge of a large square of concrete in the center of the stadium. Midoriya had managed to get Tokoyami to join the team as our front horse, while Uraraka and I were in the rear. Getting Tokoyami was my idea since Dark Shadow could be a huge asset.
As we readied ourselves for the starting bell, I looked around the groups for Yangchen, wondering what group she chose. Scanning the teams, I looked for her and-
Wait, she's with TODOROKI?!
"AAAAAAAND START!"
Okay, so we're doing this.
I had no time to ask her why the frick she went with Todoroki, now she's gonna have scouts on her, and we charged. Not to anyone, but away.
Because we were the one with the million point headband and everyone wanted a piece of that. If we didn't move, we'd get stampeded.
We stayed close to the edge after we evaded everyone to some degree. "Hey, is there a way we can get out of here?" I asked in between breaths.
"What do you mean?" Midoriya asked.
"I mean, Uraraka's quirk can make us float, right?"
"We wouldn't have much control though," Midoriya mused. "But Tokoyami could probably fend off attackers, and if worst comes to worst, you can use your quirk. We need blindfolds though for that plan to work effectively however, and-"
"Deku-kun, you're muttering again," Uraraka said. "But I could lift you guys up. I might throw up, but that's nothing."
"I believe upheaving the contents of your stomach does not constitute for nothing," Tokoyami objected. "But have it your way."
Geez, this guy could speak in real flowery language. I had to ask Midoriya for a translation.
"Alright, let's do this."
Uraraka's fingers grazed each of us as we went weightless. As we rose, I noticed Uraraka getting a bit pale, but if she was feeling discomfort, she kept it to herself.
She's a really strong person.
It was then that I noticed something in my peripheral vision.
A team of people who I assumed were from Class B was walking on the air.
Well, there was a guy blowing into the air where the others were stepping. I guessed he had some sort of solid air quirk.
But they were approaching fast. And the rider, some kid with blonde hair, was looking at us with a manic grin that gave me chills.
"Midoriya, on the left!" I quickly warned him, knowing he'd come up with the best strategy.
His head whipped around to see the group quickly approaching us. I could practically see the cogs turning in his head.
"Tokoyami!" He called out.
"On it!" With a cry, he released the monster within him. Dark Shadow, although he was a literal bird shadow with yellow eyes, looked absolutely intimidating as it loomed over the group.
The rider only laughed. "Kuroiro, you're up!"
It was then I noticed the front leg. He was a person with pitch-black skin and silver hair, his mouth twisted into a feral smirk. He suddenly stretched out his hand to Dark Shadow-
And it merged.
Dark Shadow howled as Kuroiro merged half his body with him. The guy with the air quirk created a support to keep the team in the air. Tokoyami gritted his teeth as he tried to gain some semblance of control over Dark Shadow.
It didn't work.
In a few seconds, Dark Shadow had turned on us, ready to attack, though it looked unwilling. Tokoyami cried out in pain. "Amano! Your quirk!"
"What? Why now?"
"Dark Shadow's weakness is light!" Tokoyami gritted out. "Dark Shadow is currently a mere puppet in the hands of our opponents. Our only option is to weaken him until he can no longer show his face."
This did not seem like a good idea. "But you'll-"
"Just do it!"
"Kiraru," Midoriya addressed me. "I agree with Tokoyami. He's resisting, but it won't hold up."
I clenched my teeth, but I really had no other option. Reluctantly, I brought my hands together.
The sudden light elicited a piercing scream from Dark Shadow, who immediately retreated to the safety of Tokoyami. The guy, Kuroiro, was also ripped out by the light, and their shocked team fell to the ground.
"Guys…" Uraraka's voice was shaking as she spoke. "I don't..I can't-"
"It's fine, you can release us," Midoriya smiled at her.
She looked immensely grateful as she put her fingers together with a wobbly "Release!" and we fell to the ground. Luckily we managed to hold formation. Uraraka, upon touching the ground, threw up.
"Sorry…" She wheezed. "Just gimme a sec…"
"Take your time, we'll deal with the others," I reassured her.
Luckily we were in a corner of the field. Most of the fighting was going on in the middle. I took this time to check up on Tokoyami. "How're ya doing?"
"I'm fine, however, Dark Shadow has been weakened considerably." He sighed. "He likely won't be able to come out strongly for the rest of the match. This was about what I had predicted however."
I furrowed my eyebrows. "If your quirk didn't mesh well with mine, why didn't you say something?"
"Both of our quirks are necessary to win this battle," Tokoyami said. "I was hoping we could delay using your quirk, but the outcome is unavoidable."
Uraraka stood back up, gasping. "I'm fine…"
"Great."
"Midoriya, who are we after next?"
Midoriya looked around, seeing that we were about to be mobbed by every team if we weren't careful. "Uh-"
"OI DEKU!"
Well. Seems like our opponent is decided.
Team Bakugou was charging towards us. "DIE!"
Sero completely ignored the shouts of his rider (which was a good idea) and instead shot a stream of tape towards Uraraka, who was currently the most vulnerable member of the team. I stuck out a hand (since if Uraraka went down, we'd all fall and be eliminated) and Sero's tape wrapped around my hand instead-
And pulled me forward with a force I didn't know was possible from the lanky boy.
I yelped as I fell forward, digging my feet into the concrete to keep my balance. "Why you…"
"Now you can't use your quirk!" Sero called out triumphantly. "Mina!"
"Right!" Mina used her free hand (the one not holding up Bakugou) to fling acid at us.
If it hit, we'd be in serious trouble. And we couldn't block; not with my hands cut off and Tokoyami's quirk too weak. Uraraka had overused hers and Midoriya couldn't use his for obvious reasons.
This was it. We were going to lose.
But that was when Tokoyami let out an inhumane screech as… Dark Shadow appeared?
Too weak, you said.
Anyway, a much smaller version of Dark Shadow tore through the tape, letting us fall back and narrowly dodge the incoming acid.
I glared at Tokoyami. "Isn't it dangerous to use your quirk?"
"We were going to lose, so Dark Shadow mustered up some strength," Tokoyami offered as explanation. "I likely won't be able to use him for a bit without injuring him or myself."
"Then don't."
Now, I'm fine with a lot of things. I'm fine with people picking on me, I'm fine with torturing Yangchen and Midoriya, I'm fine with losing, heck, I'm fine if people decide to cripple me.
But under no circumstances should my friends purposely bring themselves harm.
"Guys," I breathed out slowly. "Let me handle this."
Midoriya immediately protested. "But you can't carry the weight of the entire team on your shoulders!"
"Just watch me."
That's when Bakugou launched himself off his teammates, eyes rabid and descending upon us rapidly.
There really wasn't any other option.
My blindfold was resting on my neck at this point for easy use. I pulled it on as fast as I could (last time I completely forgot it existed) and clapped my hands, not having enough time to pull out my earplugs.
The ringing in my ears was… bearable. At least I didn't lose my sight.
I pulled off the earplugs and saw that Bakugou was screaming in rage as he rocketed back blindly. He must've seen me pulling on the blindfold. Smartass.
Anyway, I moved a step to the right, letting everyone know that was where we were headed. They still couldn't see or hear, so they just followed my lead. We stumbled around for a few seconds before regaining balance and retreating from Team Bakugou.
In a few moments I could hear again and everyone seemed to have regained their senses. Midoriya groaned. "No matter how many times that happens, it always throws me for a loop."
I shot him an apologetic smile. "Sorry, it's not like I have extra blindfolds. I didn't exactly plan for this."
Well, Aizawa-san had told me and Yangchen that this battle would be extremely team oriented, but grabbing extra blindfolds had completely slipped my mind. But they didn't need to know that.
"Kiraru," Uraraka started. She was feeling better by this point. "Don't overuse your quirk. You need to save it for the next stage."
I shrugged as best as I could while holding up Midoriya. "It's fine, really. Now, who should we-"
"TO THE RIGHT!"
We all started at Tokoyami's sudden shout and moved a few steps to the right. Sure enough, where we were once standing was now a wall of ice.
Todoroki's group was staring us down. Their group consisted of Yangchen, Iida, and Kaminari, other than Todoroki. It was a solid formation.
I didn't want to use my quirk that much anymore lest it harm Tokoyami. And it was getting really predictable. Sure it was messing everyone up but it wasn't worth it. I also had to let go of the group, putting more weight on Uraraka.
"Uraraka, are you doing better?"
"I'm doing better," She answered.
"Great cuz we need to get into the air."
"What?" This time Midoriya looked at me, astonished. "But Team Todoroki is right there!"
"Exactly." I quickly pulled off my blindfold and handed it to him. "Pull it on; I'll use my quirk when they attack and once they are confused you try to get their headband."
"I see," Tokoyami said. "A well thought-out plan."
"Let's do it." Uraraka quickly tapped all of us, going weightless. She made a choked sound, but when I glanced at her in concern, she just grinned at me. "Plus Ultra, amiright?"
Well that's one way to put it.
Midoriya hastily wrapped the blindfold around his head, nodding when he was finished.
"Guys," Tokoyami called our attention as we floated ten feet above team Todoroki. "Look!"
"What?" A confused Midoriya asked. "What's going on?"
Todoroki had made a ramp of ice around half of our airborne height. Iida crouched, brows furrowing in concentration.
It looked like he was gearing up for something. I didn't know what, but I already had a sinking feeling.
"Watch ou-"
At that moment, Iida dashed forward at an unprecedented speed, traveling up the ice ramp which furthered his momentum. In the air like we were, we'd not be able to dodge or do anything.
I just smirked.
This is perfect.
With barely any warning, I clapped my hands-
"ICE ME, TOTOROKKUN!"
Is that an opaque blanket?
And how did she make that? From what materials? An extra headband or something?
Yangchen threw the blanket over her team as soon as my hands connected. I didn't have time to stop them.
Shoot.
"Well...look what we have here."
The smelly villain snarled at Hiro while he pinned a young boy to the wall. Hiro growled. "What are you doing?"
The villain smirked. "What does it look like?"
Hiro was wearing what we all were: A ripped black sweatshirt and jeans with a random mask we found in the garbage, His was black, mine was yellow, Shun's was brown, and Maki's was blue. We wore beanies to hide our hair since they were the most recognizable parts of us. Well, everyone except Hiro because his hair worked with his quirk.
Hiro suddenly broke out of his fighting stance, straightening and leaning his weight to the left, hand on his hip. "Wanna fight?"
The change of tone and topic hit the villain like whiplash. "What?"
I snickered to myself from my spot on the roof. Hiro was good at taking people off guard.
Shun slapped me lightly on the head. "Shush."
"Sorry."
The villain, noticing Hiro's short stature and high-pitched voice, most likely assumed that Hiro couldn't hold a candle to him. Overconfident, he rushed in.
I smirked. That guy would be in for a surprise.
Hiro leisurely lifted the hair above his covered eye-
And suddenly he was frozen.
The only people who could move were Hiro, me, Shun, and Maki.
"...Okay, what do we do now?" Maki asked, emerging from the alleyway where she was keeping watch. "We can't just kill him."
"No, we can't," Shun said with a shudder. I winced; I knew Shigaraki had told him to kill some more people a while back and he agreed. Though Shigaraki had pulled him aside to whisper something else, something that had made him turn white.
I never knew what it was.
Shun picked me up and bounced to where Hiro and Maki were waiting. I jumped out of his arms with a scowl. "I never asked for you to do that."
He quirked up an eyebrow. "And what were you going to do, jump down and break an ankle?"
"Anyway," Hiro interrupted. "Who brought the rope?"
Shun tossed it to Hiro, who then walked up to the villain. He quickly tied his hands and feet, but when he tied the feet he left some string hanging out.
Maki looked confused, so Hiro explained. "We're leaving with a bang."
"What do you mean?" This time I asked the question.
"We need to let people know we exist." Hiro finished hanging the guy feet-first from a lamp-post. He then reached into his pocket and brought out...a can of spray paint?
"Where did you get that." Shun said it like he would say a sentence.
Hiro just chuckled. "Graffiti artist near a train.."
"Figures."
He quickly sprayed something on the wall behind the villain. I squinted as I read it. "Beware...the...Musco...Fafia?"
"But why?" Shun groaned.
Maki's voice was still as chipper as ever. "I think it looks cool!"
"I know right? Like bloooooooood!" Hiro caught onto the enthusiasm.
Shun facepalmed as I fought back a laugh.
Our debut was going surprisingly well.
Suddenly there was a panicked sound to our left. We all looked to see the boy who was being threatened earlier point at us. "But-but-how-"
Shun groaned again. "Musco," He made sure to use Hiro's code name. "Why did you release him?"
Hiro shrugged. "So he could escape."
"Who-wha-who are you?" He stuttered out.
Hiro took on a confident stance. "We're the Musco Fafia and you'd better remember it!"
Though with his childish voice, the effect was diminished.
Nevertheless, the boy ran out of the alleyway in shock. And that was when Hiro cried out in pain.
He knelt, clutching his eye, as the world took color again. As he released his quirk, a large gust of wind nearly blew us away. The villain screamed in surprise as he found himself suddenly tied up. "What did you do!?"
"Hi- I mean, Musco!"
We ran to our leader, who was clutching his eye with both hands, gasping in pain. Shun knelt in front. "Musco? Can you hear me?"
Hiro let out a breathy laugh. "Yeah, sorry. Caught me by surprise." He lifted his hand off as the pain began to subside to a dull ache.
But what caught our attention was the red coating it.
"Shit."
"Language!"
"He's bleeding out of his eye and you care about language!?" I shouted at Shun, who flinched. I immediately looked down. "Sorry."
He waved his hand at me. "It's fine."
"We need to get you to HQ," Maki said as she hoisted Hiro up, making sure that she was supporting his weight. "Let's go."
We were walking out when the villain called out to us. "Wait! Are you vigilantes? You'll be arrested, kids, and when you do-"
"God, SHUT UP!" Hiro yelled at the villain, glaring at him through his one good eye. "When the police find you, tell them that the Musco Fafia did this to you. Spread the word," He smirked. "A new vigilante group is in town."
I couldn't see anything. My ears were ringing. I was oblivious to the world around me; the only grounding factor was the fact that I could still feel my teammates.
And so I felt them jerking around violently, and I was perplexed when I felt solid ground under my feet. In a few moments, I regained my sight.
Midoriya wore a shocked expression. My stomach dropped.
"What happened?" Uraraka asked nervously.
"I don't know! Midoriya, do you still have-"
Everyone looked up at Midoriya. To our horror, his headband was gone.
"And that's TODOROKI SHOUTO, taking an astounding lead and the 10 MILLION HEADBAND from Team Midoriiiiiiiya!"
Jeez Mic, shut up.
All eyes shot to Todoroki, with the million-point headband in his hand, face still as stoic as ever.
This wasn't good. Our team was nothing without the headband; we'd been so busy evading we completely forgot about grabbing others' headbands!
If we didn't figure something out soon, there would be no way we could make it to the final round.
We really didn't have much of a choice.
We rushed at Team Todoroki, still trapped in our enclosure of ice he'd created. Todoroki just narrowed his eyes as Uraraka quickly made us float again, looking very green. A weakened Dark Shadow helped us gain momentum, shooting faster than we could ever have hoped to go normally.
In a few seconds, we were nearly at Todoroki's face. Dark Shadow suddenly pushed right, driving us to the team's left side. With Iida's engines stalled, they couldn't move.
"Midoriya, now!"
Todoroki whipped around, ready to defend himself. Midoriya went in for the punch…
Wait, is that FIRE?
Todoroki lifted his left hand, flames starting to rise from his arm, when he suddenly stopped and froze.
The flames died down.
Is he...holding back?
I was too caught up in this sudden realization to notice the look in his eyes. All I felt was a burning anger at this kid who had been pissing me off from day one.
I didn't think.
Then again, I never do.
I hastily tore my bandana away from Midoriya as Yangchen wielded a spear, ready to defend. Slapping it over my eyes and hoping it stayed because of the wind pressure, I clapped my hands yet again.
Luckily the bandana shielded my eyes, though now nobody knew what was going on. Dark Shadow had retreated yet again, so we weren't going forward anymore.
Pushing through the ringing in my ears, I noticed that Todoroki had turned his headbands towards himself so we couldn't see them.
That wouldn't be a problem.
While he wasn't looking, I made a grab for them, managing to get two or three. Satisfaction creeping into my chest, I retreated, positioning myself under Midoriya-
"AAUGH!"
My leg was on fire.
It was legit on fire.
Everyone's sense of sight and hearing had come back and I was still screaming, trying to put it out.
Where the hell did this even come from!?
"TIME'S UUUUUUUUUPPP!"
Thank the holy mother of quirks.
Uraraka quickly released us and we dropped to the ground. I tried to land on my feet, but that quickly proved impossible, so I dropped down on one knee, desperately trying to put out the fire. What was that thing you had to do again? Stop, drop, and roll?
Suddenly my leg was coated in ice.
Todoroki was looking at me with the most raw emotion on his face I had seen from him ever. It was like looking into a swirling pit of guilt, rage, and shock. Uraraka stood to the side, retching, Tokoyami was on a knee gasping for breath, and Midoriya was running towards me when my leg was suddenly a block of ice.
Yangchen trotted to my side. "Are you- oh, that's quite a burn."
That was the last thing I heard before losing consciousness.
"Yo guys, Kiraru's on TV!"
"Oh yeah! How's she doing?"
"Placed fifth in the first round, fourth in the second. Just passed out from a burn."
"Oof. Think she'll be in the next round?"
"She was always resilient. Probably."
"Any word from Whirlpool?"
"Eliminated in the first round."
"Oof."
Another incorrect quote!
Jiro: (Singing) Everybody clap your hands!
Kiraru: (Ready to clap)
Jiro: Except you Amano!
