Chapter 22: Christmas Performance

It's the Friday before school is out for 2 weeks. May, Misty, and Dawn sang their Christmas song for their choir class a few days ago and they passed with flying colors. Now it's lunchtime when they will perform for the students. They'll get extra credit for this, but honestly, they just like singing and they're already passing choir with a 95 or above. It took a while for Misty and Dawn to beg May to say yes to singing for everyone though.

The cafeteria is decorated with Christmas decorations everywhere. There's even a huge Christmas tree on the stage that has so many decorations it might tip over. Students and staff are wearing Santa hats, Elf hats, Reindeer ears, or something festive. Everyone is getting into the Christmas spirit. The lights in the cafeteria dimmed. People could still see their food, but everyone stopped eating to face the stage.

"Hey, hold on. Where are the girls? They shouldn't miss this." Gary said. Misty, May, and Dawn kept it a secret that they'll be performing during lunch.

"Yeah. Hopefully they'll show up though." Ash said.

"Now, it's time for three girls from our school's choir to sing you a Christmas song!" A lady announced in a microphone. The cafeteria started applauding. The announcer went off of the stage and music started playing through the speakers.

(This song is "Like It's Christmas" by the Jonas Brothers.)

A spotlight above the stage moved to the left side of the cafeteria. "The snow on the ground. The love in the air." Everyone looked to who's singing in the single spotlight and they saw Dawn singing into the microphone. "The sleigh bells are ringing. This is what it's all about." The gang all stared in shock that Dawn was the one singing.

Another spotlight moved to the right side of the cafeteria and revealed Misty singing into another microphone. "The fire is warm. The angels are singing. And I don't wanna miss a"

"Single thing. Don't wanna put an end to all this cheer." Dawn and Misty sang together in harmony while walking towards each other in the center of the cafeteria. The spotlights were following them. "But as long as you're with me, it's always that time of the year." They stopped in the center of the cafeteria, all eyes on them.

A third spotlight moved to the very back of the cafeteria and revealed May/Daisy who joined in the singing. "You make every day feel like it's Christmas."

"Never wanna stop." Misty and Dawn sang.

"Feeling like the first thing on your wishlist." May sang.

"Right up at the top." Misty and Dawn sang.

"I can't deny what I'm feeling inside." May sang as she started walking towards Misty and Dawn. "Nothing fake about the way you bring me to life. You make every day feel like it's Christmas." She stopped in front of them. "Every day that I'm with you." Misty and Dawn walked in opposite directions from where they started. May walked forward towards the stage.

"Looks at the lights. Twinkling bright. 24/7." Misty sang, looking at the gang. "Every inch of Central Park." Misty and Dawn turned and started walking towards the stage.

"Is covered in white. This could be Heaven." Dawn sang. "And I don't wanna miss a"

May reached the stage first and she sat down on it, her legs hanging over the edge. "Single thing. Don't wanna put an end to all this cheer." They all sang in harmony. "But as long as you're with me, it's always that time of the year."

Misty and Dawn walked up the side stairs onto the stage. May lifted her feet on the stage and she stood up. They all faced the audience. "You make every day feel like it's Christmas." May sang.

"Never wanna stop." Misty and Dawn sang.

"Feeling like the first thing on your wishlist." May sang.

"Right up at the top." Misty and Dawn sang.

"I can't deny what I'm feeling inside." They sang together. "Nothing fake about the way you bring me to life. You make every day feel like it's Christmas. Every day that I'm with you."

"Every day that I'm with you." They repeated. They walked forward, kneeled down, and carefully stepped off the stage.

"You make every day feel like it's Christmas." May sang as they walked down the aisle in the middle of the tables.

"Never wanna stop." Misty and Dawn sang.

"Feeling like the first thing on your wishlist." May sang. They all made eye contact with the boys.

"Right up at the top."

"I can't deny what I'm feeling inside." May sang. "Nothing fake about the way you bring me to life. You make every day feel like it's Christmas. Every day that I'm with you." They sat down with the gang.

"I can't deny what I'm feeling inside." They sang together. Misty was singing to Ash, Dawn was singing to Paul, and May didn't want to but she was singing to Drew.

"No matter the reason, no matter the season, my heart'll keep beating, you better believe." May sang fast. Drew smiled as he stared into May's eyes.

"You make every day feel like it's Christmas." They sang together. "Every day that I'm with you. Every day that I'm with you. Every day that I'm with you." They finished.

The cafeteria erupted with applause and cheers. May, Misty, and Dawn stood up and returned the microphones to the one in charge.

"Thank you very much, girls, for that amazing performance."

May, Misty, and Dawn walked back to their table.

"So, did that song mean something to you Daisy?" Drew asked, smirking.

May glared at him. "For your information Mister, Misty and Dawn forced me to sing to you." She said angrily.

Drew looked at Misty and Dawn.

"We didn't do that." Misty said.

"Yeah. She told us she wanted to sing to you." Dawn said.

"What?!" May/Daisy yelled at them.

Drew chuckled. May glared at Drew again.

"So...you mean to tell me...that you didn't want to sing to me?" Drew questioned.

"Exactly!" May said angrily.

"I find that hard to believe." Drew said.

"And why is that?" May asked angrily.

"Because you were blushing when I smiled at you during the song."

May blushed and looked away from Drew. "Was not."

"You're doing it again."

With a swift movement, May faced Drew again and punched him on his arm. "Am not!"

"Are too." Drew said, rubbing his arm.

May lifted her fist again to punch him, but she thought about what she was doing. She dropped her fist to her lap. Drew cocked his head in confusion.

"Why'd you stop?" Drew questioned.

"I just…" she started. She smirked. "Don't think you can handle two of my punches in a row."

"Really? That's your excuse?"

"Yep." May answered.

"Alright then. You girls sounded amazing by the way." Drew said to Misty, May, and Dawn.

"Thanks." Misty said. "It was Daisy's idea to walk down the aisles like we did and start offstage."

"Well, it was a great performance." Ash said.

"So, are you going to be able to meet your friends during the break?" Drew asked.

May and Drew are in theater class.

"I actually don't think so." May/Daisy said.

"Really? Not at all?"

"No. I'm uhh...really busy all the time. Especially during winter time." May lied.

"What are you busy doing during break?"

"Umm...you know...cleaning...cooking...making sure my Pokémon don't get too cold…"

"They stay in their Pokéballs though." Drew said.

"R-right! But sometimes, my Pokémon would rather stay out of their Pokéballs."

"Well, during December, they should still stay in their Pokéballs no matter what." Drew said. "It's safer that way."

"Right…"

"And another thing, you clean every day of break?" Drew questioned.

"Umm...yep!" May said. "My house gets really dirty really fast."

Drew stared into May's eyes. "There's something you're not telling me."

"Huh? W-what do you mean?"

"I doubt that you clean every day for two weeks during Winter Break." Drew said. "And you keep saying "Umm" and you keep stuttering."

"W-well…"

"See?"

"Umm-" May quickly covered her mouth.

Drew removed May's hands from her mouth. "Is there something you need to tell me?"

"N-no. I mean, yes. I-I mean no!"

Drew lifted his hand up to touch May's blonde hair and tuck some behind her ear, but May quickly backed away before Drew could touch her.

"What's wrong?" Drew asked as he lowered his hand.

"W-what were you going to do?"

"I was just going to brush my hand against your cheek to tuck some strands of hair behind your ear."

"Sorry. I just...don't like when people touch me." May said.

"But...I've caught you from falling many times and I even kissed you during the Homecoming play."

May blushed when she was reminded of the kiss on her cheek from that play. "I-I just…"

"...I know that you're hiding something from me." Drew said. "What is it?"

"It's nothing Drew...really…" May said sadly.

Drew sighed. "Fine. I'll drop the topic. But I hope to see you at least once before Christmas."

"Why?" May questioned.

"Because." Drew said. He smiled. "I give all my friends presents."

May's eyes widened. "I-I'll get a Christmas present from you?"

"If you can meet me before Christmas."

"I'll try." May said, smiling. "Just text me where and when I can meet you. I'll bring a present for you too."

"Really? You don't have to."

"I know. But I want to." May said. "I can't let someone give me a gift and I don't return the favor. That's who I am."

Drew smiled. "Well then. Do what you want. How about you try and meet me at Bellossom Fields at noon on Christmas Eve?"

May nodded. "I'll be there."

"You want ideas for a Christmas present for Drew?" Dahlia questioned.

"Yeah. His present has to be perfect to match his personality." May said.

"Well, he's your friend. You know him better than I do because I've never even met him yet."

"Yeah...I just need his present to be perfect."

"I do have a suggestion for you though."

"Really? What is it?"

"Maybe you can sing to him."

"What?! I can't do that!"

"Give it a try May." Dahlia said. "You did mention to me that he told you that you sing amazing. And singing is a part of him, right? His personality?"

"Right...but…"

"It's just a suggestion. And maybe you can get him something with a rose on it because that's also his thing."
