Yet another caper where Joker and Lupin don't cross paths. It's just gonna happen sometimes. Disclaimer: I don't own Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, the Persona series, Lupin the Third, or any other referenced media.

Eleventh Caper: A Night at the Movies, The Voice Box

Ren couldn't help but sigh as the news in Italy showed yet another woman running for office, with a huge fortune in gold no less, intending to oust the mafia once and for all. "She'll realize soon enough that Giorno is too strong. Sure, she can get rid of the truly evil mafia families, but Passione is a whole different breed of criminal." Just then, his smartphone chimed in with a new post on Joker's blog. A young girl his own age from Japan. 'Someone is trying to shut down my latest movie. I need help exposing the criminal. To sweeten the deal, I have evidence that the culprit has this item.'

Ren narrowed his eyes when he saw a photo of a large male sitting near a workbench. On the bench was a small and distinct recording device. 'The Voice Box,' Ren noted, 'Crafted by Johann Joestar during the Renaissance period. It has the uncanny ability to record and replicate a vast number of automated lines. It's considered a marvel by modern standards.' Ren checked the address of the client, and saw that it was in Tokyo. "Interesting... I've never been to Japan's big city before. This should be quite a trip..."

The address happened to be a movie theater in the middle of Shibuya. Joker entered one of the empty theaters. 'Thanks for coming,' came the voice of a young girl his own age. He was surprised to see the projector turn on. The screen showed a young woman dressed like a director, her hair pure white and her eyes bright red. 'I'm Hikari Fukuen. Part of Hope's Peak Academy as the Ultimate Director, Class 79-B.' To Joker's amazement, she stepped out of the screen, changing to a normal size as she did.

"So you're a Stand user," Joker noted. "Just about every student of Hope's Peak is," Hikari pointed out, "As are most of the teachers. In my case, my Stand is Movies. It takes the form of a projector that I can set up anywhere." She pointed to the projector up in the booth. "With it I can draw people into whatever film reel is placed inside, and then they experience the movie in real life. The environment feels real, the action gets pulse-pounding, and best of all, nothing can actually harm you in there. Though on the flip-side you can't really affect anything regarding the plot. The only exception is if it's a movie I personally directed."

"Sounds interesting," Joker said, "I caught your photo. I'm surprised the individual didn't spot you." "I had help from an upperclassman in the 77th class," Hikari explained, "By the time we actually got there he was gone, by my sempai was able to use her own Stand to investigate the scene. It gives her the power of post-cognition so long as she's in the middle of an investigation." Joker nodded. "That's a very practical power to have. Do you a have a name for this individual?" "I managed to find one," Hikari said, "Tomura Shigaraki. But it might be tricky. From what my friends have learned, he has a Stand that can temporarily shut down other Stands."

"That makes things complicated," Joker admitted, "If he can shut down a Stand from anywhere..." "Luckily it's more restricted than that," Hikari clarified, "He has to physically touch a Stand user, and not the Stand itself. Also, the Stand is only shut down for five minutes. But he's apparently crazy strong, so five minutes is usually enough time to take out a target. And here's the thing, he claims himself to be a hero targeting Stand using villains. But from what we've seen, to him every Stand user except himself is a villain. Even his co-workers." "Typical," Joker said, "So how do I pull this off?" "If you send him your calling card," Hikari said, "He'll come running to fulfill his mission. Leave the rest to me."

Tomura was looking over the list of Hope's Peak Academy students. "Such a hive of scum and villainy, lording their power over common men! Once I fulfill my obligation, I will seek out the others and deal with them as well! I will eliminate all Stand users from this world, and rid society of their evil!" He then heard something get slipped through the mail slot on his door. "What's this?," he asked as he picked up the calling card. "Tomura Shigaraki, I am the Phantom Thief Joker. Today I will steal the Voice Box from your possession." Tomura growled and burst open the door, only to have his jaw drop when he saw that his entire house was plastered with calling cards.

"I will bury you, Joker!," he called out. "You'll have to catch me first!," Joker called out from a nearby rooftop. Tomura whirled around and started running after the Phantom Thief. "When I get my hands on you," he called out, "I'll wring your sorry Stand right out of your body!" "Good reason not to let you get your hands on me then," Joker quipped. He led Tomura right to the movie theater. "Finally cornered you," Tomura said with a grin. "Took the words right out of my mouth," Joker said with a smirk, "Now Hikari!" "Movies!," Hikari called out. Tomura gasped as he and Joker got sucked right into the movie screen.

Hikari watched as her first big movie, a superhero epic, started playing. 'How far can a hero go, before they cross the line? How long until the people they are supposed to protect stop truly believing in them, and only follow them out of fear? One lone hero must come to understand that she cannot stand above the people, but with the people. That true authority is not about fostering your will on others, but listening to them and protecting them. Watch as this hero is taught the true meaning of her profession in... Lunar Woman!'

"What the hell is this?," Tomura asked. "We're inside one of Hikari's movies," Joker explained, "The same one that you were asked to ruin. Since this is a movie that Hikari made herself we can interact with it, though it won't change subsequent screenings. Basically we got sucked inside her Stand. And I'm told that you can only negate someone's Stand if you can actually touch them." Tomura smirked. "I can still touch you! Kryptonite!" His hands glowed green as he lunged at Joker, but was shocked to find himself phasing right through the thief.

Several police cars suddenly showed up. "What's going on?," Tomura asked. "They're here for the opening act," Joker explained, "When we get our first look at Lunar Woman as she tries to stop a bank robbery. Oh, and she causes quite a bit of collateral, including a few police officers. And guess where we happen to be?" Tomura realized they were right inside the bank, and two masked robbers were emerging from the nearby vault. "Hey! There wasn't supposed to be competition here!" "Don't mind me," Joker assured them, "I'm here for something he has."

He then leapt away as the roof collapsed on top of the robbers. Tomura only barely managed to escape, and spotted a young woman with her hair in a bun, dressed in a bunny girl outfit with a cape. "I wasn't expecting extra criminal scum in this city tonight." Tomura decided to escape while he could, Joker smirking as he leapt after the wannabe hero. 'Joker,' Hikari said, her face appearing on a jumbotron in the city streets, 'The movie is moving its plot along at a regular pace. As you keep moving from locale to locale you'll see the plot progression. Try using that to your advantage.' Joker nodded.

Tomura managed to reach another area of the city. "I need to find an exit. There must be one somewhere. If there's a way in, there's a way out, right?" 'Attention citizens!,' came Lunar Woman's voice over a jumbotron. Tomura noticed that the rabbit-looking heroine was standing over the two robbers from before, as well as what looked like a police officer and a random civilian. 'The police have been derelict in their duty, letting these robbers escape, and this man has gotten in the way of justice while I pursued. Therefore, they shall receive a swift punishment!'

"This is my favorite part," Joker noted, startling Tomura, "See that little girl in the crowd approaching Lunar Woman. The man being held captive is her father. And she's about to rip Lunar Woman a new one. Actually, Lunar Woman represents an elementary school teacher that tried to scapegoat Hikari when their class's pet rabbit died. But all Hikari did was say that they shouldn't feed the rabbit certain vegetables, like carrots. The other students realized that Hikari was right all along and said the teacher was in the wrong for not listening to her student. She tried to appeal to the principal, but he just reaffirmed that part of her duty is to listen to the students, not command them like a dictator."

Tomura tried to grab Joker, who quickly leapt out of the way before phasing through a wall. "You want out? You need to finish the movie. Or you can appeal to Hikari, but that would imply that you'd admit she's not actually evil. I hope you learn a lesson from this, Tomura. But one way or another I'll be swiping that Voice Box. I always keep my promises, as a true Phantom Thief should." Tomura growled as he tried to follow Joker through the streets. "I swear I'll end that rotten thief!"

Tomura soon chanced upon the next scene, where Lunar Woman was making a formal apology and announcing her retirement. "What's even the point of this movie? She was doing just fine before. What's the odd sacrifice here or there if it's in the name justice?" 'Such justice will eventually ring hollow,' Hikari chimed in over the jumbotron. She smirked at his look of surprise. 'Don't forget that I'm watching this movie from the theater. By the way, Joker knows this movie-verse better than you do, and he can phase through solid objects even within the world of my Stand. So you're at a disadvantage.'

"How interesting," came Lunar Woman's voice as she descended, "I overheard you talking earlier. Seems you have a very warped opinion of how justice works. It's a dark reminder of how I used to be." Hikari grinned. 'Did I neglect to mention that this is the moment of the movie where Lunar Woman is confronted by her actions when actual villains start threatening the city and overwhelming the police? This movie is meant to be a redemption story, after all. Oh, but don't worry. Even if you're beating to a pulp, you'll only get kicked out of the movie.'

Sure enough, Tomura blacked out with the last thing he saw being Lunar Woman's fist. By the time he woke up, he was tied up in one of the seats with Joker and Hikari behind him, enjoying some popcorn as the movie ended. 'And so, Lunar Woman began her crusade anew. Only now, instead of deciding justice for herself, she would trust the people she protected to understand justice. The full moon shines bright on a city now truly protected. Fight on, Lunar Woman! Let the justice of the people shine!'

"So," Joker said as he admired the Voice Box he had managed to swipe, "Her name's Lunar Woman, but she dresses like a bunny?" "It's because of the old Japanese legend about the rabbit that lives on the moon making mochi," Hikari explained. Tomura sighed. "Can I least get some popcorn?" "We'll save you a box for when you're hauled off to prison," Hikari said, "By the way, Joker, if I find the others trying to stop my movies..." "You can contact me again," Joker assured her, "But in the meantime..." He stood up and started to leave the theater. "I'd better make sure the police don't know we're acquainted."

I deliberately named the villain this time after the one from My Hero Academia for a reason. I've already established that the My Hero Academia story does exist in the Jojo New Universe (see A Gentleman, A Thief, A King, and A Hero for more details) and it's been established that the Tomura in that story is just using an alias. So why not have it that All For One picked the name from a notorious criminal that thought he was a hero? Speaking of which, Stand explanations.

Movies (Song by Alien Ant Farm)
User: Hikari Fukuen
Ability: Taking the form of a movie projector, Movies can draw anyone Hikari wants into it to experience the movie being shown. For most movies, the people affected cannot interact with any facet of the movie, although the environment will feel real, and nothing in the movie can really harm them. An exception is if the movie playing is one Hikari personally directed, as characters will interact with visitors. That said, there's still no permanent harm if anything damages or outright kills the visitor. They'll instead be kicked back out into reality. Hikari can also use her Stand to warp between movie screens if there's no movie playing.
