A/N: Well, hello there my wonderful readers! I know this chapter is late but I promise it has a lot of action. A lot of the problems we were all worried about are starting to come about. Including a certain someone's real identity. I will do my best to make sure that the next chapter is up on time but I'm having some issues with motivation and writer's block. As always don't forget to leave a review, a like or a fav and I'll see you guys next week. (Hopefully)
Chapter 11 - Unexpected Visitors
This had been going on for a good eight months now. Every time Billy came back, he'd have supplies for Eric, mostly food now that he didn't need any big item appliances anymore. And every moth he'd top up their condom supply because apparently, with not much else to do on the island, Eric and Una went at it like a pair of rabbits.
In that time, Una perfected her English to a point. No longer was it broken, but almost complete sentences. She often staggered through words or sentences but nothing as bad as before. She had learned to read and was working on writing now. She was a very quick learner.
Eric on the other hand was not as quick. No matter how he tried he could not make raptor noises right. Though he was still trying to learn, it was apparently much harder for him to catch on than it was for Una.
And, because Ingen was so rabid to get Eric's information, and Eric's internet connection was shaky at best they had gotten into demanding that Billy bring back updates. So, Billy was bringing back the rolls of film to be developed, and notes that Eric had on the movements and behaviours of certain dinosaurs and herds.
On the last run Eric had given him a special roll of film that was apparently all Una and her raptor family. And oh boy were they interesting. Billy had developed those photos himself, in his own basement so there was no way for Ingen to find them. He then brought the pictures and negatives back for Eric, but they were hidden one of his cargo pant's pockets so that no one could accidentally stumble upon them.
As per usual Eric met him with the jeep, they packed up all they could, sent the boat back out onto the ocean before heading back into the jungle. During the drive they talked, Billy updated him on his family and how they were doing, including Billy's newest girlfriend and how she might be the one. He told him how Dr. Grant had had a health scare but was doing alright now.
And in turn Eric told him about life in the jungle when your girlfriend brought home sick and injured creatures all the time, and your raptor-in-laws lived in your basement.
He had put in a bell, attached to a rope. They'd pull the rope the bell would ring. They never stopped ringing that bell. Sometimes they rang it even if Una was with them because they just liked ringing that damn bell.
Then Una came back with her very first injured creature. A wounded juvenile Gallimimus. It wasn't terribly injured, but it couldn't really walk.
Eric had no idea how it found her, or how she got it back, but she appeared with this creature a few heads taller than her asking where to put it.
And then it was up to Eric to figure out where they were going to house it while it healed.
The good thing was the compound was a breeding facility, or creation facility. So that meant that there was cage like stables to put it in.
Eric took that time to look over the injured leg while Una stole vegetation out of the jungle to decorate the cage so it would feel more like home. After some probing, he figured out the problem. It had pulled a muscle, so while Una was setting it up to have a nice lie in night in their compound. A night off it should fix it, Eric figured.
She then had to go to her pack and tell them that the injured gallimimus in the stable section of the building was off limits.
And they listened.
In the morning she said the gallimimus' leg felt better and she was off to make sure it got back to it's herd. But after that worked, she started bringing more and more dinosaurs back to the compound.
They were going to become a target.
Or maybe not… seeing as she had a T-rex for a friend.
So for that shipment he had asked for straw, Lots of it. Lots and lots of it. Figured it'd be easier to keep the stable area clean if he had straw.
"So… uh… what do you need the straw for? I mean really?"
Eric had told Ingen than the was going to use it to lure animals to him, not sure why they believed it but whatever.
"Well, Una keeps bringing back injured dinosaurs to patch up, right. The straws for their enclosures. I'm dreading the day she brings back a big one. Not sure what we'll do then."
"So she's really bringing back… so what? She's like the Dr. Doolittle of the dinosaurs?"
That was exactly what she was like and he could say that it got annoying real fucking quick.
"You know… I've been thinking…" Oh here we go. "She had to come from somewhere, right?"
"I asked about that," Eric said. "She said that her mom told her that she found her on the beach in, what she now knows is a boat. There had been a storm the night before so I'm guessing they wrecked off the coast and boat washed ashore with her inside."
"Do you ever wonder… wonder who she really is?"
Eric turned to Billy not quite understanding the question. Una was Una, there was no other version of her.
"I unno how you expect to find that out?"
"Well… we could do a DNA test…"
"And how are you going to explain that?" Eric asked. "Hmm?"
"Well… we could say we found a body or something…"
"Billy, that's more than twenty years ago, everything would be bone. How would we explain finding DNA? I… I just don't think it's a smart idea," he said. "I just… I don't want anyone finding out about her. Okay?"
"Right. Sure, fine," he said and then shoved his hands into his pockets. Billy looked around the clearing outside of their compound. "Where is she actually?"
"She's off with her pack today," Eric said, he was busy unloading the jeep of all the supplies they had brought, going in through a back door with all the straw he'd be using. He even had a sickle now so it would be easy to chop down tall grass to act as straw when this ran out.
Billy nodded.
"Did you ever get the toilet situation figured out?"
He didn't have an actual working plumbing system, they couldn't get actually water in it, but they did have the toilet that he kept very clean. He had fixed it up so it would take the waste away, just had to drop water down it when things weren't solid. It was kind of like a porta-potty/septic tank type thing. Except, instead of emptying into a septic tank, it dropped heap that eric was using as compost for the garden was eventually going to grow so he could have his own vegetables instead of relying on Billy's deliveries and whatever Una found on the island.
However, he always knew what ever handing Una was safe. She got a lot of food recommendations from other creatures.
"Yeah, if it's number 2 use the bucket to get to down," he said. "Do you need me to spot you while you climb?"
Billy shook his head and rounded the corner to where the entrance to their little pad was and came to an abrupt halt.
He knew that the raptors were properly and fully moved in, he knew that they were good with Eric, and Billy had even met them before. None of that meant that they would be okay with Billy just showing up. None of that meant that he was safe.
When he stopped, they stopped too. Their heads all turning to him, their yellow eyes all narrowing in at him.
God he should have asked Eric or Una to teach him raptor for friend.
"Friend of Una!" he said loudly to them. "Friend of… friend of… Una!"
The raptors all seemingly exchanged glances. They raised their snouts to sniff at him and then they just turned and walked away.
Billy didn't let out his breath, in fact he sucked in more and then raced to that rope ladder and scrambled up it before they could change their minds about attacking him.
Once he was up there, he caught his breath. Then he went to looking.
He found what he was looking for, coincidentally in the washroom. She must have just brushed her hair recently because he found a whole wad of it in the garbage.
He knew Eric was having a hard time teaching her hygiene, what with growing up in a jungle and what not. Though she had gotten better at showers, she didn't quite understand the point of brushing her teeth, or her hair. You didn't even want to know what he had to do to convince her to try a tampon.
Let's just say that was a very interesting week.
So he picked up the wad of hair, put it in the pocket of his cargo pants poured some water down the toilet and then scampered out.
He would be careful. He would make sure that Ingen didn't find out about this, but he wanted to know who Una was before she became Una. Eric could be mad at him later.

Unbeknownst to both Eric and Una, a secondary team had landed on Isla Sorna, the same time that Billy's team did.
With the information provided by the photographer they had on the island, they had managed to pick out a safe route into the jungle and where to set up the traps.
They had several large cages to put the specimens in so they could take them back to the boat and then to the mainland.
Ingen was specific, make sure Eric, the wildlife activist who would have never been okay with this, didn't know what happened.
So, they marked off where his compound was on their map and gave it a large berth.
The plan was to trap small dinosaurs that day, set larger traps for bigger ones and come back once they had the smaller dinosaurs on the mainland.
This was a secret mission because if the Eric the activist found out what they were doing, he might cause problems, like look for all the traps and take them apart.
Once in the jungle, the split. One group started setting up traps and digging drop holes, the second found the feed trail and began the trapping of smaller high value dinosaurs.
It was while they were on the way back when it happened.
They had trapped a few really good specimens and they were heading back to the boat with them. They had all been braying and lowing and maybe it was al the nose that brought the giant monster, but that didn't matter now.
All that mattered was that it had shown up and they were not equipped to handle something that big.
It disrupted the convoy, destroyed the trucks, ate half the team, and the rest had no choice but to run from it.
But when they got back to the second team they were gone. More aptly they were eaten, there were pieces of them just left behind. They had no idea what did it, but there were none left. Left alive anyway.
Then it became this terrible trek through the jungle where that massive dinosaur with the fin chased them down.
They lost man after man until he was all alone.
But he was smart. He was crafty. So he rigged up his own trap with what was left of the work the two teams had done and then lead it right into a trap.
It involved tearing a few nets apart, tying lines within the trees and digging a wider hole, but he managed to get it to follow him.
Managed to out run it, which was shocking considering its size, but he had to dive through trees to confuse it and trip it up.
Then he ran full tilt into the trap the dinosaur with the fin didn't see it in time. It went down, it's leg stuck in the hole, it's body tied up in lines and wires.
That was it, the monster was trapped, for now anyway. Now, now he just needed to get off of this island.
The supplies and phone were gone, there was no way to contact the boat that was supposed to take him home and he didn't want to wander around this dangerous jungle by himself.
So, he would go to Eric the activist and then, sure he was supposed to be a secret but he wanted to get off of this crazy island.
He had lost the map early on but he remembered he general area of the compound the Activist had set himself up in. Basically, in the center of the island, so he figured if he kept moving inland he'd find him.
And well… he found something.
He came across the ridge, and in the little gully below was the building. Yeah that was probably it. But as he moved towards it strange things started to happen.
For starters he could hear the sound of something following him. The rustling of the bushes and trees as he walked, but he never saw anything.
But he felt like something was watching him the whole time.
It was the barking that got him. As he got closer to the compound, he could hear it more frequently. This sounding call that would break the heavy silence. He had no idea what was making that barking sound but every time he heard one bark, something farther away would respond. So, there was more than one, and they were following him.
He sort of felt like maybe… maybe he was being hunted, or heralded. In which case, why hadn't the Activist told the Ingen that he had dinosaur friends on the island acting as a perimeter check?
When he finally got down to the building, he wasn't sure anyone was there. He knew that the Activist had said he was in that building but he saw no signs of life. But then again, that was probably a good thing on this island.
Something told him not to go inside the front entrance, that probably wasn't how the Activist had managed to secure the place. So he figured he'd walk around the building try to find another way in, or some sign that the Activist was in there. They were plenty of building on this island maybe this wasn't the right one.
But as he walked, that barking became louder, like he was coming up on whatever was making it. But he rounded the corner to the back and it went quiet.
Complete and utter silence. Not a single sound. And there was nothing there. Nothing at all.
Except for the swish of movement, and the low fronds moving. Something had just darted into the trees.
Despite know that this was a bad idea, he found himself moving towards it. He wanted to know what was following him, what was going on.
He took two steps into the trees and heard something different, something new. Something was going about making dinosaur noises but it didn't sound dinosaur-ish. It sounded softer, less harsh.
And when he got closer, he could figure out why.
It was a woman.
She was wearing a pair of shorts wrong, her shirt, if you could call it that, was bound across her chest. She was tanned, covered in scars, but most importantly she was the one making the noises.
Because she was talking to a raptor.
Crouched low he watched them. Watched this raptor bob its head at her, trilling and barking at her. It didn't look to be in a defensive or attack position, nor did the woman look scared in any way. She simply trilled and barked back.
The two were having a conversation about something.
The implications of this were astronomical. Dollar signs were flashing across his eyes. A girl who could talk to dinosaurs? Do you know how much Ingen would pay for that?
He wondered if the Activist knew about this girl? Because if so, it would explain why he was so cagey about Ingen coming to the island. HE didn't care about the dinosaurs, he cared about the girl.
He had to find a phone. Tell someone about this.
Already he was thinking of how he'd trap this girl. He'd need to trap a raptor with her, to prove that the two of them could communicate.
All he had to do was slink back the way he came.
And then he stepped on the branch.
That one sound cracked through the night air, it might as well have been a thunderclap.
All three creatures in that clearing froze. The human girl who had been talking to the raptor, the raptor who had not even tried to eat the human girl once and the regular human male who had been spying on them. They both stared at him, both took him in.
The girl reacted first, she turned to the raptor and made some sort of strange whine. The raptor raised it's head and barked in response.
Yeah, he wasn't going to wait to find out what that meant. He turned, turned and ran, but he didn't get far. The raptors converged from all angles. He was dead before he hit the ground.

Una shook Eric awake in the early morning light. He groaned as he joined the land of the living turning to the woman he loved, who was perched beside him in the bed, eyes wide. She was full jungle, panic did that to her, turned her back into something wild.
Something had upset her.
He put a hand out to her. "What's wrong? Deep breaths. Use your words."
And then he heard it too. A low echoing roar, like a moan of sorts wafting up above the trees.
Something big was hurt. Calling. No doubt for her. But she wanted him to come with her so he had a feeling that whatever they were looking for was not going to be a friend of hers.
But if going with her would make him feel better, then he would go with her. So, he got up, got himself dressed and then followed her out the window. When he got to the ground, he realized that her mother and part of the pack was up too. Not entirely unheard of, sometimes they did hunt at night, but it made him extra nervous to see that they too were ready to go.
He almost felt like he had been the last to be roused.
The low moaning groan sounded again and he realized that he didn't have time to argue about it, he had to follow Una and the pack as they headed towards it.
Together they ran through the forest, the raptors flanking them. It felt pretty cool, he was not going to lie. He felt very much like a badass. Like nothing could get him so long as he was with the pack.
They came to a spot where the moaning and groaning was the loudest, but he couldn't see what was making it.
They were clearly worried about going forward. He could tell by the way Una and her mother were looking at one another, chittering to one another.
So Eric pushed past them, swept the foliage aside and promptly froze because he could see exactly why they had stopped where they.
It was a Spinosaurus. It had one leg stuck underneath it and the other leg in some hole, not big enough to trap it, but it couldn't seem to get up. It was also bound up with all these lines, wires, keeping its arms pinned.
Una made a noise, a little bark and its head, though mostly stuck in the coiled ropes and wires, still managed to swing towards them. There he could see one empty eye socket and the jagged marks along the side.
This wasn't just any Spinosaurus, this was the one that had attacked him back when he was on the island the first time. This was the one Una had blinded.
Yeah. This had just gotten a lot more complicated.
