Chapter 11
Saturday morning Finn found himself up and restless. He put on his runners and went for a 10 mile run around the city. When he got home he got showered and changed and went off to Bloomingdales to see if he could find some more clothes for Rory and him too. He was successful and found some beautiful shirts as well as 3 more sundresses. Finn found a couple of shirts for him too. He took a picture of a formal dress that he fell in love with and thought would look stunning on Rory. It was a royal blue high necked no sleeve lace overlay dress that was floor length with a slit up the side and a keyhole pattern in the back. Finn thought the color would make her eyes pop. Rory loved the dress. She was really impressed that he was so good at picking clothing for her. After finding the clothes and dress Finn went to La Perla and found Rory some very sexy lingerie that he knew would look fabulous on her and that he wouldn't mind taking off with his teeth.
Rory sent her mom a text of the dress Finn found saying: Had time to go shopping last night and found this dress. Glad I did as I have an interview with USA Today on Saturday morning. Very excited and nervous all at the same time. In Pennsylvania on my way to a rally. see you on Saturday at the party.
Rory called Finn and said: Sweetheart, that dress is beautiful. I sent mom the picture of the dress to throw her off for Saturday. Do you think I should get it for Emily's formal Christmas party this year?
Finn: If you don't wear it to Emily's Christmas party I was thinking it would look stunning on you for the JP Morgan chase holiday party.
Before Rory had a chance to respond her phone beeped and it was her mom texting back that she loved the dress and that another interview is exciting.
Rory: Sorry mom just texted back that she loved the dress and wow that color is beautiful. I told her I had another job interview on Saturday morning and was happy I found a dress last night. I know I am lying to her but honestly I think it is everyone's best interest.
Finn: So I know you really want the job at the New York Times but I have another offer to talk to you about. JP Morgan Chase is looking for a head of our marketing department. I think you would do an amazing job. You would be traveling with me to all the hotels and taking pictures and writing articles about the hotels and their amenities as well as other events or things to do nearby. It's just a thought and nothing we have to talk about anytime soon. Let's get through the next 7 days. Deal.
Rory: Deal. That job does sound intriguing. And it has the added bonus of being with you every night. I would like to wait on it till I hear what the Times is offering or suggesting. Honestly I want something that I would be able to be in the same place for more than one day at a time. Living out of a suitcase has gotten old. Please get me the dress if it's not too much money.
Finn: Rory it's not too much money. You never have to worry about money again. I think it will look beautiful on you. What else do you need me to do for you this week. I was thinking when you got to New York on Thursday I could meet you and bring you to our apartment. On the way there we should stop and get our marriage license. From there I was thinking we could pack for our honeymoon and for the days at the Atrium. We could then fill up my Escalade with the baskets and our luggage and go to the Atrium. I think the baskets need to stay in our room till we are ready to give them out as they have lots of expensive items inside them. Don't worry our room is huge, they won't be in the way. When did you want to give them out? I want to spend some time on either Thursday night or Friday morning in the conservatory with you mapping out the placement for the sand table as well as where we want the half circle of chairs to be and the reception tables too. The minister is meeting us at the conservatory at 5 on Friday to go over the wedding and all the pieces. Have you given any thought to what our toast to everyone should be? I am going this afternoon to Michaels to buy the sand. I found a beautiful clear glass object with a stopper on top in Bloomingdales. I am not sure what it is supposed to be used for but I think the sand will look beautiful in it. I will send you a picture when I hang up with you. I will call you when I get to Michaels and we can discuss sand colors that they have if that works.
Rory: That definitely works for sand colors. My afternoon rally today has been cancelled so I am at your disposal all day. I have plans to go to dinner with Jane and the girls tonight. That would work for Thursday. I can call you when we are like a ½ hour out. Please plan on bringing a larger suitcase on Monday as I was thinking of sending home with you anything I won't need before Thursday. If you wouldn't mind doing some wash I would be grateful.
Finn: I don't mind doing wash. That's actually a great idea as then almost everything will be clean. It will definitely make it easier for packing. Hey baby did you get your something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. I thought you could use your dress as your something new and your ring as something blue but I am not sure what to give you for your borrowed or old. Any suggestions or do you have that covered.
Rory: No I don't have that covered. Let me think on that for a bit. Thank you, you think of everything. I Love you. Talk to you soon.
Rory hung up the phone and Finn sent her a picture of the bottle he bought. Rory loved it. She didn't know what it's original use was for either but neither of them cared. Another thing off their list.
Finn walked into Michaels and found the sand department. He put Rory on FaceTime so she could look at the colors too.
Finn: I am leaning towards white, the sea foam green or is that blue and maybe the darker blue and the gray too. What are you thinking?
Rory: I like those colors together. I think it will look good and calming and not very flashy. Do you think we need to add our friends to have a color of sand? I wrote a paragraph that I thought you and I could say about the sand. I will send it over to you when I hang up. Let me know what you think. Finn could I borrow your lucky penny for the walk down the aisle. The one you used to give me before a big test. That could be my something borrowed and something old. Wasn't that your grandmothers?
Finn: Of course you can borrow it but let's see if we can come up with something better. I have an idea.
They hung up the phone and Finn went to pay for their purchases. He also bought 4 glass containers to put the individual colors of sand in. He also bought a big funnel so the sand could be poured into the bigger container. Another item off their list.
Meanwhile Rory sent over the following for Finn to read.:
First we ask that Francine, Emily and Richard come to the table. As you three are our elders and the foundation of our families we ask you three to pour the gray sand into the vase. You may now take your seats.
Next we ask that Lorelai, Christopher, JP and Amelia come to the table. As Rory and Finn are combining their lives together they will be combining the Gilmores, the Hayden's and the Morgan families in unity. We ask that Lorelai you take the white sand, Christopher you take the light blue sand and JP and Amelia you take the dark blue sand and pour them into the vase. By combining these three colors of sand we are combining our three families together in unity for life.
Finn read the paragraph and called her from the car.
Rory: I know you bought the gray sand I am just not sure if we need to have Francine, Richard and Emily involved. I have never been close to Francine. She is being invited to keep the peace. I don't think we should be condoning Emily's childish behavior. My grandpa will just be happy to be invited.
Finn: The sand and the small container to hold it before it gets poured into the bigger one was only $10. The lady gave me a coupon for everything. Let's talk it out and think about it. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. We can always cut it out Saturday morning. Oh and I stopped and got 4 cameras for the tables as I don't want Robert to spend all night taking pictures. I want him to have fun too. I bought 20 small packages of tissues too. I think it's enough without our friends. I don't want to make our parents think that their part isn't significant enough.
Rory: Ok your right. She probably liked your accent you exotic one. Good idea on the cameras. Off to work on our thank you to everyone piece.
We would like to thank you all for coming to our wedding. We know that when the invitations were sent out there was an air of mystery surrounding them. We thank you all for indulging us and coming anyway. We know tonight we combined three very prominent families of society. We wanted our wedding to be intimate and with only our closest family and friends who feel more like family to us. Each of you has played a crucial role in our lives. Tonight wouldn't have been the same without you all here. We have spent countless hours making tonight everything we wanted without the need of any of your help. We appreciate that most of you didn't try to push your way in to help. Neither one of us would have been comfortable with having a high society wedding with hundreds of people and all the paparazzi. That's just not our style. We thank you all for being here to help us make our wedding day that much more special. And to answer the last question no Rory's not pregnant yet. We just know life is precious and we want to spend it together. Now we ask that you use your cameras on your phones or the cameras on the tables to help us capture tonight's events. Robert please put your camera down tonight and have fun too. Now let's get this party started.
Rory sent the thank you to everyone speech over to Finn. He thought it was written beautifully and even loved the dig against Emily. After reading about the dig against Emily Finn decided to drop that line from his wedding vows. It would be too much.
Finn called Rory: Now I know why you are the writer of our family. That was beautiful and I wouldn't want to change a word. I loved your little dig against Emily. I can see her coming after you for it though. Need not worry I will have security at the door should we need it. Ok I think I am gonna try to get some work done this afternoon to keep my mind off of you. Call me if you need me or just wanna talk.
Rory: Finn you party animal you. Talk later. Gonna go work on my vows.
Rory sat down and started typing. The words just flowed out of her.
You look so debonair in your suit. Thank you for everything that you have done for today. You have made my dreams come true. Finn it's true when I first met you I thought you were a pompous jerk. You thought money fixed everything. I couldn't understand half of what you said but you always had a smile on your face and you could always make me laugh. You pushed me to do better in college just as much as I pushed you. You were the one with me late at the library studying beside me all those nights. You put up with my coffee addiction. Just knowing you made me a better person. You were the one who took care of me at that horrible sausage or should I say meet a nice male from Yale party my grandparents threw. You knew what that party was even before I did and you knew I would be mortified by a party like that. You helped me to feel better on a very uncomfortable night. You were cracking jokes all night and even volunteered to reenact your version of the passion of the Christ to get me to smile. You made everything better. When it was decided I had to choose one of my friends to get my grandparents off my back you told me I should choose you because you were exotic. I should have chosen you that night and I could have saved myself a lot of embarrassment and heartache. You knew what I needed many times even before I did. You have always looked out for my best interests even when that meant you might get hurt in the process. When I met you again in Chicago I was homesick. The road and my job weren't everything that I thought they could be. You demanded we have dinner as only you could and I had one of the best deepest most meaningful conversations I have ever had with you that night. You showed me you were my true friend. You opened my eyes to a lot of things that night. Things that had always bothered me but I was never able to articulate into words. When you asked me to be your girlfriend and you kissed me I felt it in my toes. I felt the sparks. I knew at that moment that if you asked I wouldn't hesitate to say yes. My mom had told me you know it's right when you don't hesitate. She was so right. Thanks mom. When you asked later that night for me to marry you I first thought you were kidding but then I truly looked into your eyes and knew I found my soulmate. You don't want to change me or make me into something I'm not. You told me you love me for me and you aren't looking for a proper society wife. You don't care if I work. In fact you have been encouraging me and been my sounding board every step of the way. That's how I knew I found the one. Finn, you make me laugh, you make me smile. You make me a better person just for knowing you. I am proud to call you my friend but even prouder to be able to call you my husband. I love you. I have been in love with you longer than I care to admit. With you I have found my place. I have found my home.
For her first draft Rory was happy with it. She wasn't sure about her dig against Emily about the sausage party or the proper society wife. Honestly she didn't care if she ever spoke to her again after the way she has been bullying Finn on the phone. She would talk to Finn about it.
Rory sent a text to Finn: I tweaked the elders portion of the gray sand and I think I like this part better. Please reread it and tell me what you think.
First we ask that Francine and Richard come to the table. As you both are our elders and the foundation of our families we ask you both to pour the gray sand into the vase. Every good house or relationship needs a good solid foundation that is built on friendship. You may now take your seats.
Next we ask that Lorelai, Christopher, JP and Amelia come to the table. As we are combining our lives together we will be combining the Gilmores, the Hayden's and the Morgan families in unity. We ask that Lorelai you take the white sand, Christopher you take the light blue sand and JP and Amelia you take the dark blue sand and pour them together into the vase. By combining these three colors of sand we are combining our three families together in unity for life. The combination of these three colors signify the colors and pieces of our lives and home. With all four colors together we now have a solid family structure to lean upon as needed filled with laughter, love and family.
Rory: What do you think? It takes Emily out of the equation and somehow I think it flows better.
Finn: I like it better this way. Every great relationship starts with a great friendship and a great foundation. By writing it this way you are emphasizing how strong our foundation is. And as nasty as it sounds I like that Emily was left out. She is going to pout though. Back to work for me. Almost done with my proposal to purchase a new hotel. Give me a call before you go to dinner.
Meanwhile in New York Finn called his mum: Hi mum. I have a favor to ask of you. Please feel free to say no if you think it is too much.
Amelia: Sure Finn ask away. Do you need any help for next Saturday?
Finn: Nice try I will not give you any more information than you already have. You are just going to have to wait and be surprised with everyone else. Almost everything is done actually. Do you think you could bring and I could borrow da's mum's bracelet with the multicolor stones on it. I promise you will get it back at the end of the event.
Amelia: I don't think that should be a problem. I am happy to lend it to you for the day but I do want it back.
Finn: Of course you will get it back. Thank you. I will borrow it from you when I see you Saturday night. Thanks mum.
Finn sent a text to Rory: I have your something borrowed and something old covered. It's the same item. I hope that's ok. You will get it Saturday night. Don't ask questions it's a surprise but it needs to be returned to its owner when the event is done.
Rory: Ok I am intrigued. Thank you for taking care of this and everything else. I am fine with it being the same object for my something old and something borrowed. I am off to dinner with the girls. We are going to the restaurant attached to the hotel. Nothing fancy. Hoping for a decent burger. God I miss you and it's only been one night. Will call you when back from dinner.
Finn: I miss you too. Love you kitten. Enjoy dinner.
Finn got up from his computer and decided to make shrimp scampi for dinner. Quick and easy. He then went and found a good old movie on tv. He watched about half of it before falling asleep. He hadn't been sleeping as well as he could be. It was hard without her by his side. Soon that would be a thing of the past.
Rory called him when she got back to the room but heard his sleepy voice. She quickly said, "I love you. Go back to sleep and I will talk to you in the morning."
Finn got up from the sofa and made his way into bed and was out cold before he knew it.
