Ch.11
I give up on trying to get Daryl to talk to me. I still notice him staring at me, but he never comes near me unless it's needed. At least he's not yelling at me. I don't know which is worse - being hateful and yelling at me or not talking to me at all?
In the morning, we all get ready to move out. I didn't even speak to Daryl at all last night. I couldn't get him to talk, so I went to bed crying again. We're heading for the CDC now.
I listen to Shane give us directions on what to do. Morales and his family decide not to come with us. They said something about being with their own people. What, are we not good enough for them anymore? It's their choice anyways and I won't stop them.
"Come on. Let's go. Let's move out." Shane calls for everyone to head out. I look at Daryl sadly before I walk towards the RV. "You can ride with me." I hear Daryl finally say something to me.
I turn around and look at Daryl confused. "Oh. So now you want to talk to me?" I point a finger at him as I walk up to him. "Why are you so pissy all of a sudden?" Daryl huffs out crossing his arms.
"Really? You're gonna ask me that when you should be asking yourself that same question. You're the one that started this whole shitfest, remeber? You being hateful and mean to me when all I tried to do is talk to you. So don't try and turn this around on me, Daryl." I finish saying putting a fist to my mouth.
Daryl looks down, then walks closer to me. "I know. I'm sorry." he looks into my face. "What?" I stare into his face. "I had some time to rethink. I was having doubts." he pulls my hand away from my face.
"About what?" I ask about ready to cry. "Myself." Daryl looks away into the distance. "Oh, Daryl. I'm sorry for pushing you." I crush him in a hug. He stumbles backwards with a surprised look on his face.
"Guys! Hurry up! Let's go! You can be all lovey dovey later!" We hear Shane yell over at us. I giggle embarressed and Daryl puts his hands in his pockets. "Come on." he nods over to his truck. "Okay." I hurry over to the truck before they decide to leave us.
After a while we stop along the side of the road. The RV had broke down again. "Piece of junk." Daryl mumbles. Jim's doing really bad now, too. I don't think he can make it. Something needs to be done.
In the end, Jim asks us to leave him behind. Says it's what he wants. The majority of us try to talk some sense into him, but it doesn't work. We all, then, say our goodbyes.
I begin to tear up listening to everyone say their goodbyes. I grab a hold of Daryl's arm for comfort, and he gives me a small smile in reassurance. I wave to Jim and give him an airborn kiss. Daryl nods at him before we drive off.
When we finally make it to the CDC, hundreds of bodies are seen scattered throughout the roadway. I begin coughing as I stare at all the dead. Daryl keeps his crossbow raised just in case anything sneaks up on us.
As we walk up to the door, someone else jumps out from behind a tree. "Hey! Woah! I'm alive!" a guy raises his hands up as we raise our weapons at him. "I'm so glad someone else thought to come here." he sates putting his hands down slowly.
"Who are you?" Daryl asks him still holding up his bow. "Trevor." the young man greets walking up to us. I peek out from behind Daryl and the man suddenly looks at me in bewilderment. I stiffen up.
"Mae!" the man runs up to me and I let out a scream running back behind Daryl. "Back off!" he yells aiming his bow at the man's face. The man stops in his tracks, then looks sideways at me.
"Okay! Okay!" the strange man says backing up. "Mae, I'm so glad I found you. I...I can't believe your alive. I was so worried. You're real, right? I'm not losing my mind?" he laughs at my presence. "
"I'm sorry, but...who are you?" I stare at him puzzled. He begins to stammer staring quizically at me. "Mae. It's me, Trev. Don't you remember?" Trevor looks towards me. I grab ahold of Daryl for comfort.
"No. I don't know you. I'm sorry." I tell him. "Aww. You're doing this on purpose aren't you?" he begins to laugh again. I shake my head at him. "You always had a way of ticking me off." he sighs.
"Mae, do you know this man?" Rick asks me. "No. No I don't." I respond still looking at this man who supposedly knows me. "Who exactly are you, and how do you know Mae?" Shane asks him staring between me and Trevor.
"Come on, Baby. It's me. I'm back." Trevor opens his arms to me, and Daryl takes a step forward. "He asked you a question." he states pointing his bow at Trevor again. He sighs and pats his sides in response. "I'm Trevor. Mae's boyfriend." he looks at me confused.
Everyone stares at this young man like they don't believe him. Lori and Carol both look at me for some answers. I shrug my shoulders at them. I'm just as lost as they are on this.
"Boyfriend? You didn't tell me you had a boyfriend." Lori leans over to whisper to me. "I didn't know I had one. I swear I don't know him." I raise my hand. She looks at me weird like she knows something that I don't.
"Come on, Mae. You can't be serious. You can't just forget me. I need you. And you need me, remember?" Trevor walks up to me. I don't know what his problem is. He must have me confused, but what's the coinsidence of my name.
"She said she don't know ya." Daryl backs me up pushing Trevor away. "Are you kidding me! You love me! I'll make you remember!" he stomps towards me. My eyes go wide, and I scream while backing up. Everyone points their weapons at him again.
"Alright. Alright. Don't shoot. I'll just have to make you fall in love with me again." Trevor says angrily folding his arms. Then we hear growling around the corner.
"Everyone stop." Rick whispers holding up his hands to quiet us. We all stay silent and look around. The growling comes again. "Shit! It's walkers!" Shane shouts at us. Everyone starts freaking out, and Rick starts banging on the door.
It's getting dark and more walkers are showing up now. We fight Rick from banging on the door and luring more walkers. He's not having it, though. He's not giving up.
We're about to leave when the door to the CDC opens in a jolt. After the introductions, we agree to give our blood for testing so we could stay. The man's name is Dr. Jenner. He seems like an all right guy.
