Joker was in his office, combing through all the seemingly useless information they had gleaned from the first try of breaching Wayne Enterprises security system. It had taken Eddy too long to get inside and unfortunately he was kicked out of the system pretty quickly too. They would need something better to get deeper, to the good stuff that Joker could use to break Bruce Wayne down into nothing.
They had only been able to pull a few useless HR files on some low level employees. It wasn't much, but it was a start. He was tossing the papers aside when his 'Batphone' rang. Oh, he just loved his chats with the bat. He readied himself for some fun, picking up the receiver.
"Well, to what do I owe the pleasure of a morning chit chat with my favorite bat?" If anything could pick up his bad mood, it was Batman.
"Is Tessa with you?" The sound of Batman's voice was strange, panicked almost.
"No." He had to take a deep breath before he continued. "Is she missing?"
"Yes, you don't know where she is?" Batman didn't know where Tessa was and was calling him for help, if it had been about anyone else Joker would be flattered.
"Is she at home?"
"I don't know where she lives, but her car is at her office. They said she left early yesterday and didn't show this morning."
Joker hummed into the phone, knowing Batman didn't know where Tessa lived made him feel better. "I will go check on her there." He hung up.
He grabbed his things and left the small office. He grabbed a random guy and had him drive. He figured he'd try to call her cell phone. Straight to voicemail. He wasn't surprised, that would have been too easy. his fingers tapped his nervous energy against his knees as they made their way to the outskirts of Gotham. The man pulled up in the driveway and Joker got out.
"Wait here."
He moved to the front door and tried the knob. It was locked. He reached into his inside pocket and pulled out the singular key she'd given him. He had thought it was funny when she handed him the key on the same plastic keyring he'd given her. He squeezed his hand around the plastic and unlocked the door, sliding inside.
The room was dark. He moved through the space, and up to the stairs. The house was quiet, there didn't seem to be anything to show she had even been here recently. He pushed open the first door, the nursery. He chuckled at the painted clowns along the wall. She was ridiculous, once he found her, he'd show her exactly what he thought of the cutesie clowns staring at him. He moved to the other room. Looked like an art studio. Seeing it was empty, he turned to her room. He pushed the door open and frowned. Her bed was made, lights off. She wasn't here, but he checked the bathroom to make sure.
Where could his girl have gotten to? If Batman was worried, it could mean foul play. He wondered if his guys had seen anything? He had scaled back his watchdogs when things had been calm between them, maybe that had been a mistake. He pulled his cell phone out calling the warehouse.
"Yea?"
"Who was on watch last night?"
The man was silent as he thought for a second. "Dougie and Cecil."
Joker thought about who he wanted to talk to. "Get me Cecil."
The line was quiet for a while and then he heard a shaky voice. "Boss?"
"Did you see Tessa last night?"
"Yea we watched her until she got into her car."
"Did she drive away?"
"No."
Joker growled into the phone. "Did anyone approach her car?"
"Once she got inside, we drove off."
Joker hung up the phone. He would deal with the ignorance that was Dougie and Cecil later.
Who would grab her? Tessa had no real tangible connection to him that anyone would know. Only the Batman, knew. That thought tickled something in his brain. No, someone else knew, his old doc knew. Would she dare to go after Tessa? Fuck. She was fruity enough she might. He had to find them. He hurried back to the warehouse and into his office. He watched the clock as he made a few phone calls. Harley had taken vacation time. He sent a few guys to go to Harley's apartment.
He had even called around looking for any men who had been paid to kidnap women in the last 24 hours. He'd have a list soon. The longer all of this took the angrier he got. If Harley had taken her, Joker would kill her. She had no right to touch his things. His cell phone rang.
"Yes?"
"No sign of the doc boss. Looks like no one had been here in a few days."
"Trash the place, look for anything that would show she was planning to abduct anyone. Anything suspicious, call me immediately."
"Got it."
Joker hung up and fought the urge to smash everything in his office. The 'Batphone' rang and caused Joker to almost jump out of his skin.
"Hello?'
"I take it she wasn't home."
Joker growled in the back of his throat. "No."
"Do you know anyone who would want to hurt her?"
Joker wasn't sure if he should turn the Bat onto Harley. He might be able to get his hands on the doc easier. "Maybe."
"Give me a name."
Joker chuckled at the rage in Batman's voice. "Well, I'm not sure, but my old doc had a big crush on me. She didn't like the fact I was with Tessa. She even juiced her while at Arkham. She's my first guess since I can't seem to find her at the moment."
Batman was silent. "Dr. Quinzel?" his voice sounded strange.
"The one and only."
"You're sure?"
"Mmm like 83% sure it's her."
"I have to go."
Joker was confused about that phone conversation. He set back in his chair and thrummed his fingers against the desk. His cell phone rang again.
"Yea?"
"Boss I found something. It's a receipt for a storage unit. Rented a week ago, for the month only."
"Text me the address and then meet me there."
Joker hung up the phone and moved quickly. He first headed to grab a few knives and his gun. Once he was armed again, he moved to the bigger room.
He looked at the men wandering around. "I need a few guys armed and at the car in five minutes."
He headed out to wait. By the time three men were ready to go, he had the address and was speeding to the far side of Gotham.
