"Hey, maybe the party isn't over yet and you could still enjoy some of that.", Edward said and walked ahead. "Evie, you're not leaving us too soon, right?"
Evie hummed. "I want to go as soon as possible. ...But there is still some time left indeed.
A bit later, they were back on the party. Jacob looked out for Lilian. He had found liking to her.
However, Queen Victoria stood among her guests in the garden and waited for the Frye twins to be present. Mr Frederick Abberline from the Police Force stood by. He had worked with the Frye twins previously on Occasion.
"Hey Freddy.", Jacob grinned, not quite knowing what was going on.
Queen Victoria lifted her hand and everyone got quiet. She nodded and smiled at Evie.
" Mr. Abberline informs me that you four are responsible for saving my life. Is this true?
"It is, your Majesty.", Henry said, feeling honoured.
"Evie Frye, step forward. And you...", the Queen looked at the three men.
"My brother, ma'am. Jacob Frye. And these are Mr. Henry Green and Mr. Edward Kenway.", Evie informed the Queen.
"Mr. Frye, Mr. Green, Mr. Kenway. ..Kneel.", the Queen ordered.
Jacob and Henry looked happy and obliged. Edward however remained standing.
"I can't.", Edward said and the guests in the background gasped. "I .. have been a Privateer, back in the year 1712. At first in the Service of the British Crown under her Majesty Queen Anne. ... but a year later we turned to Piracy.
I have committed the most heinous crimes on sea. And I can't take any of that back."
Nervous chatting among the guests started. Who was that man? What was he talking about?
"To back that up ... I have an object that grants me immortality. This is why I am still alive, even after about a hundred and fifty years.", Edward summoned his Trident.
Queen Victoria looked impressed and the chatting intensified. It was only because Edward did not point the Trident at the Queen that people did not feel threatened. Mr. Abberline looked nervous though.
Edward waited for a bit and set his Trident down, as if offering it to the Queen.
"I just felt that before you decide to knight me ... you should know what you are dealing with."
He almost expected to be taken down right now. The Queen would kill this 'Dirty old Pirate' and Edward would follow the other Pirates who had died so long before him.
The Queen took some time to digest that. Eventually she took a deep breath.
"Well. So? You shall be pardoned, Mr. Kenway. And now kneel."
Edward blinked. He felt a pat on his leg. It was Jacob.
"Come Edward. Kneel down.", Jacob whispered.
Edward looked confused and lost and then indeed knelt down.
Queen Victoria knighted each of the four Assassins by tapping their shoulders with a ceremonial sword.
"Arise. I invest you all in the Order of the Sacred Garter."
"Thank you, your Majesty.", Evie smiled brightly.
"If you are as adept as Mr. Abberline implies, I may call on you.", the Queen said.
"Sergeant Abberline tends to exaggerate, your Majesty.", Jacob felt happy.
"We shall meet again. And Miss Frye?"
"Ma'am?"
"Should you want it, I saved you some cake."
The Queen returned back into the Palace, to do whatever it was that Queens did on such a night. The Sergeant followed her.
"Father would be proud of you.", Evie said as she moved up to Jacob.
"Dame Evie Frye.", Jacob said.
"Sir Jacob Frye."
Edward was still stupefied.
"Are you alright?", Henry asked.
"I just can't believe she .. she just pardoned me like that? Like what? Why? How?"
Henry chuckled. "Why don't you just enjoy it and celebrate?"
"But she can't do that!"
"If she can't, who else can?", Evie said. "Let's enjoy this evening. Come, 'Sir' Henry Green."
Evie walked off with Henry in tow to enjoy the rest of the party.
"Congratulations, Sir Jacob Frye.", it was Lady Lilian. She had stepped up to Jacob. She had managed to escape her fiancé again.
"Miss Lilian.", Jacob smiled, now happy to see her again. He chuckled. "Now I can indeed call myself that, but I will still be the same goofball."
"See? We just talked about it. Titles are something you cannot grasp. ... But now I have to call you a 'Sir'.", she put on a serious face, but then smiled again. She moved to hook her arm onto Jacobs, so they could go for a walk together.
"Tell me something about yourself? Let's start with something simple, like ... what's your favourite food?", Jacob asked.
"Hmm... I like fish, but it has to be well made and not too many fishbones in there. What about you?", Lilian enjoyed this time together with Jacob. Was it like a Date?
"Fish, huh? Me too, it's been so long since I've had any good fish. Well, I also like chicken. In most variations. It's rather nice..."
"I think the buffet still has some to offer, you're in luck. There's only one catch... my fiancé might be there too.", she rolled her eyes.
"Have you ever felt like you were locked in a cage?", she suddenly asked.
Jacob noticed that she really did not like her fiancé. "Sometimes. I wanted to be free and just to have fun. But .. you probably mean a different kind of cage, do you?"
"...I feel like I can trust you.", she said with a bit of thought. "Cages come in all shapes and sizes, Jacob. I can call you Jacob?"
"You can."
Lilian frowned and looked at Jacob. "How did you get here in the first place, by the way? You did not steal from a noble?"
Jacob chuckled and shook his head. "No, No, all legal. My sister and me got the invitations from a friend. Edward. .. you just saw him. It was also not quite planned that I enjoy myself here. Let's say... it was my job."
Lilian looked at him with big eyes. "You're work for the Police?"
Jacob grinned. "You could say that."
"Perhaps.. you could somehow help me? Since you are a Sir at the service of her majesty, can talk to the Queen. Maybe there is a way to talk my father out of marrying me to this Marquess. I tried to talk to him by myself, but he won't listen. I've been trying for two years now."
Jacob nodded. "I will try that. We will make it happen."
It would be truly bad, if she had to marry an old man against her will. She was still so young.
"That would be so nice."
Soon, Jacob was a bit distracted by the catchy music that was playing.
Lilian noticed how Jacob reacted to the music and smiled. "Want to dance? We can go eat afterwards, if you like."
"How could I say no?"
They moved to the dancing area and started to dance. Really carefully at first. But then they danced the night away, caught by the music and enchanted by the presence of one another. They had only just met each other but knew that there was going to be a deeper meaning to it.
Then, unfortunately, Lilian's fiancé had found the two.
"There you are, you little...", the old man growled and stepped towards Jacob and Lilian. But Evie moved in the way. She had also watched her brother for the last few minutes and had found that the two of them were a cute couple.
Henry also helped. "Quick, this way.", he helped Jacob and Lilian to get out of the place, while Evie engaged the Marquess into some light conversation.
Lilian gathered her skirts and ran alongside Jacob from the garden. They managed to catch the next carriage and Jacob told the driver to move towards the next train tracks. He knew, where Bertha, the train, would be.
"Unpleasant guy, this one.", Jacob chuckled. But they had managed to escape so far.
Lilian felt her heart beating up her throat. She was hyped. "Oh boy. Where are we going, Jacob?"
"I've got a train nearby. My sister and me live there. It's a nice one, you will like it.", Jacob did worry slightly if she was going to make that jump with her wide skirt but he would do everything to make sure she'd get on safe.
Some minutes later, they were on board the train. Lilian was excited.
Evie and Henry had also joined them.
"This was the best night ever!", Lilian said.
"Welcome on board the train, Lady Lilian.", Evie smiled. She knew who Jacobs new acquaintance was.
"It really was a marvellous night.", Henry had to agree.
