Danny's POV
I called up Putzie's house number, "Hello?" He asked.
"Hey buddy, wanna come with Kenickie and I today?" I asked him. "Kenickie said he needed to get something for Katelyn for Christmas."
"Oh, no thanks brother." He said. "Phil promised me that he'll spend time with me and Pammy."
I smiled.
"Ok kiddo, have fun and stay safe alright." I said.
"You got it Zuko." He said.
We both said goodbye, and I went on my merry way to pick Kenickie up and we headed to the mall. Hey, we always keep promises to our females.
"Ok Zuko, my sister is a jewelry preson." Kenickie said as we walked inside. "So I was thinking we get her earrings."
"That's nice." I said.
We've look at every earrings until Kenickie saw the prettiest one, so we brought it and went to his house first so he can wrapped it up before we went to Frosty to meet up with the guys. When we got out, we walked to the door as Kenickie pulled out a ciggarette.
"Want some?" He asked.
"Nah." I said shaking my head, thinking about Sandy again.
I missed her so much! I'm so lost without her, at least I don't have to worry about losing my best friends again. God I hated myself for lying to them about Sandy, the T-Birds were mainly as brothers instead of friends or gang members!
"Hey, Zuk, man. Those Scorpions, they're asking for it." I heard Kenickie said.
But I wasn't really paying attention.
"Danny, what's up? You still thinking about that chick?" He asked.
I looked at him.
"What are you, nuts?" I asked, turning him around.
"Well, no. I was just thinking." He said.
"Get in there. Don't think so much." I said to him, playfully pushing him.
"No, that's cool, that's cool." He said as we walked inside.
We walked over to Vi, another favorite adult.
"Hey Vi, have you seen the boys?" Kenickie asks her.
"Hey guys!" We heard Sonny called out.
"Hey." Kenickie said as we walked over to them.
"Hey Kenickie, Zuko, come on, sit over here." Putzie said as Kenickie slightly hit his arm as I glanced up to see Sandy with Tom.
Wait, she's dating that stupid Tom!? I heard the boys chatting, but I wasn't really paying attention. I was watching Sandy and Tom, but once Sandy looked at me, I quickly looked away.
"That was close." I thought.
Why is she with him? I'm better and hotter than that dork! Just then I rolled my eyes to see Rizzo walking over to us.
"What now?" I thought annoyed.
"Somebody snaking you, Danny?" Rizzo asked me.
"Oh, bite the weenie, Rizz." I said coldly.
"With relish." Rizzo said as I watched Rizzo walked away.
"I don't know about these chicks." I said.
I mean, we should have girls who are sweet and gentle like MY SANDY!
"Yeah! They're only good for one thing!" Kenickie grinned.
"Then, what are you supposed to do with them for the other 23 hours and 45 minutes of the day?" Sonny asked.
I saw Putzie looking confused, I am SO GLAD my boy doesn't know the full detail…well, kind of since Kenickie told him EVERYTHING!
"Is that all it takes, 15 minutes?" He asked.
We groaned at him as Sonny threw a crumpled up napkin at him as Doody pinches his cheek. That's my Putz, my boy!
"It's a good thing you're innocent and adorable Putz," I heard Kenickie said grabbing Putzie's fries.
"I was just asking." I heard Putzie said.
I chuckled to myself, and then I glanced to see Sandy walking pass us not making an eye contact with me.
"I'll be right back." I said getting up.
"Ok." I heard Kenickie said.
I walked away from the booth making my way to counter but was stopped by Patty Simcox, wrapping her arms around my stomach.
"Hi Danny!" She greeted.
"I can't talk right now." I said to her, I kept looking over at Sandy at the jukebox.
"Listen, what are you doing later?" She asked.
I let go of her grip.
"I can't talk, alright." I said to her before walking to the counter.
"Call me!" I heard her called out.
I tried to act all cool and once I looked over at Sandy, I was gonna make my move and so I stood up smiling and walked over to her.
"Hi Sandy." I smiled.
"Oh hi." All she said.
Come on Zuko, get it together! You're DANNY FREAKIN ZUKO for God sake!
"How are you?" I asked her.
"Fine thanks." She replied not looking up.
"That's good." I said.
Really Zuko? Really!?
"Hey, Sandy, I've been wanting to talk to you for a long time now." I told her.
"What about?" She asked.
"Well, about that night at the bonfire." I told her. "I mean, the way I acted, that was terrible." I admitted. "I mean, it really was. I mean, it wasn't me, you got to know that. I mean, it was me, of course, but it wasn't me." I explained.
I let out a sigh.
"You see, Sandy, I got this image, right? I got this..." I started.
"Well, that's why I'm so glad that Tom's such a simple person." Sandy said waving to Tom as he awkwardly waves back.
I chuckled to myself.
"Simple's right. Too bad his brains are in his biceps." I stated.
Sandy FINALLY looks at me.
"Jealous, are you?" She asked.
I looked at her shocked, Jealous?!
"Jealous? Oh, come on, Sandy, don't make me laugh. Ha, ha, ha!" I lied, I was ANGRY that a cute sweet girl like Sandy would date a loser like Tom!
"And what have you ever done?" She asks.
"Oh, come on! I can run circles around those jerks." I tell her.
"I'll believe that when I see it." She said going back to Tom.
I watched her leave dumbfounded.
"Ha, ha, oh, ho." I laughed a little before walking out of Frosty angrily.
I heard Putzie behind me.
"Hey Zuko, what happened?" I heard him asked.
"I can't believe I mess up!" I yelled.
"What did she say?" He asked me.
"Well I was saying how sorry I was and it just…" I said.
Then I got an great idea!
"Know what, I'm gonna figure out how to get Sandy back." I told him.
"What's that?" He asked.
"I'll tell you later." I told him walking off and turned to him. "And give that packs to Kenickie Roger!" I told ordered him as I left.
"Oh come on!" I heard him yelled.
I walked all the way to Rydell high to see Coach Calhoun sitting on the bench probably going through his clipbroad. Coach Calhoun was always a close of friend of my dad. The guys and I like him, even though he coached idiots.
"Hey coach!" I called out.
"Oh hey son, what brings you here?" He asked looking up.
"I uh wanna do some athletics things." I tell him.
"You?" He asked.
I nodded my head.
"Why?" He asked. "I mean, I would love to help you pick one you'd like."
"I just…" I started. "Just wanna do something a little different."
"Ok son, come back after Christmas break and we'll look for what you'll be a great fit for." He tells me.
"Thanks." I smiled.
"Anytime son." He smiled.
"Bye." I said.
"See ya later son," He said as I walked off.
I walked all the way home, grabbing some of the sport magazines that my dad had in his den, going in my room to read them. Yes a Greaser is trying to do sport, maybe Sandy will see the good in me and take me instead of that dumb jock!
"Danny!" I heard Daisy yelled.
I walked out the room to see Daisy in the hall.
"Kenickie's on the phone!" She smiled.
I walked over to her, taking the phone from her.
"Ok little sis," I said kissing the top of her head and she ran in her room. "Hello?"
"Hey Zuk," I heard Kenickie replied.
"What's up bro?" I asked.
"It's Putzie." He stated.
I started to worried about Putzie, getting overly protective.
"Why? What's wrong? Is he ok?" I asked.
"He just found out that Phil will leave for war right after Christmas." Kenickie explained to me.
I felt my heart broke for my baby bro, like I say I'd always refer the boys as my little brothers!
"Poor kid." I said.
"Yeah." Kenickie said. "So I figure that he'd talked to you."
I smiled a little, Putzie and I always had a special brotherly relationship.
"Ok, I'll be there in a while." I told him. "I got things I gotta finished."
"Kay, see ya later man." He said.
"Bye." I said hanging up as my mom came upstairs with the dishrag in her hands.
"Anything ok dear?" She asked.
"Phil is leaving for war right after Christmas and Putzie is really upset." I told her.
"Oh poor dear." She said.
"Yeah, I'm gonna over there in a while." I added.
She smiled softly.
"You boys are so sweet." She said.
I chuckled as she went back downstairs, and I looked at the picture of my older brother Derek on the table.
"I missed you big brother." I mumbled.
Derek was my older brother, he died when I was only 3 years old. He was 18 and also a greaser as well. He died due to rumbling with his friends.
