Chapter 12 Hallway of The Seven Sins

Brendan arrives at the church. "Alright, I'm here. Now what?" Brendan suddenly hears a voice.

Come forward...

"Huh? Come forward? Okay..." Brendan walks through the door and walks through a hallway. At the end of the hallway he sees a stained glass that resembles Breynald.

To proceed you must accept thy seven sins. The punishment for not accepting thy sins is death. Upon acceptance thou shalt not be able to turn back... Shalt thou proceed?

"...I guess I have no choice if I want to leave this place. I accept." Upon uttering those words, a flash occurred and Brendan is in a different room. "What's this place?"

Accept thy sin of gluttony to proceed.

Brendan saw two rooms. He enters one of them. He sees a few statues. They resemble Masya, Aurora and Alice.

Accept thy sins. The one you stole their home from. The one you refused to love from. The one that you killed in cold blood.

Breynald has a flashback of memories... "I... I hurt them all... No..." Brendan regains his composure. "I need to complete this test. I think it's telling me to order the statues." Brendan puts the statues in order; Alice, Aurora and Masya.

Suddenly, a glass of wine appears on the table. Brendan picks up the glass. "What's this?" Brendan smelled it. "...It reeks of death."

Drink...

"Eh? I don't want to-" Brendan remembered the voice's words.

Thy punishment for not accepting thy sins is death...

"...Fine..." Brendan drinks the wine. "Ugh... It tastes very metallic..." Brendan keeps drinking it until the glass is empty. "I drank it all..." Brendan feels a dry heave as the glass vanishes into thin air. He then hears a clicking sound and then the voice speaks again.

You have completed this trial... now complete the next.

"Ah, I see. Each 'sins' have tests assigned to them and I need to complete said tests." Brendan deduced. He walks out of that room and heads into the next. He walks up to a table and finds cake. "Cake? That's strange. Why would it be here?" Brendan thinks for a moment and shrugs. "Eh, I haven't had much to eat. Why not?" Brendan picks up the cake and eats it, wiping crumbs off his face afterwards. "This... This is delicious! I must have more!" Another cake appears on the plate. Brendan grabs it. "Ah! So good!" Brendan devours the cake and afterwards holds his stomach. "Ah... I think I'm full." Another cake appears on the plate. "I... Don't think I can..."

Eat and eat.

"...A little more couldn't hurt right?" Brendan picks up the cake and struggles to eat it. Eventually he finishes it. "Ugh... That was so much... I think I'm gonna-" Brendan couldn't finish his sentence and vomited. After doing so he wipes his mouth. "Ugh... That was unpleasant." Another unlocking sound was heard. "It's that sound again. I must have completed it." Brendan walks out the room and a flash occurs, and he ends up in another hallway. He walks through it and at the end he sees stained glass that resembles Masya.

Accept thy sin of sloth to proceed.

Brendan walks in the room to the left. He sees a small tile that seems out of place and stands on it. Nothing happens. "I don't get it. What am I supposed to-" Brendan's sentence was cut off when something knocked him unconscious. A few moments later, he regains consciousness.

"Ugh... What happened?" Said Brendan. Suddenly a voice spoke. It was... Breynald?

"Today we shall prove these witches have no power over us. We shall cleanse the world!" Brendan opens his eyes and sees what's in front of him. He is tied up to a cross and there is a crowd of people with what appears to be Breynald at the side.

"What's happening?!"

"Bring forth the first witch!" The Breynald like figure said. A figure that resembles Dawn is pushed out. Breynald readies his cleaver.

"N-no! I can't let him do this! I-"

You will not move. You shall not break free. You shall not do anything.

"(...It's just a test... yeah just a test... none of it is-)" Breynald swings his cleaver and the Dawn like figure is dead, head on the floor. Brendan looked on in horror. The Breynald like figure once again shouts...
"Bring forth the next witch!" Next the crowd pushes out a figure that looks like...

"M-May! No! I can't take this anymore! I have to do something!" Brendan cried. However, the voice repeated it's words.

You will not move. You shall not break free. You shall not do anything.

The Breynald like figure executes May. Brendan tried to fight back his tears.

"But of course... even after all the terrible things I did... Masya said..." Breynald trailed off. Brendan finishes his sentence.

"Nothing..."

Brendan falls from the cross. Tears fill his eyes. "Why...? Why do I have to suffer...?" Brendan wipes his tears away. "I can't give up. I must persevere!" Everything flashes and Brendan is transported to another room. He walks to the end of the hall.

Yo guys. It has been a while since I've done a chapter huh?

To those who are actually have an interest in this story I've got an announcement to make.

I thought long and hard about this and I've decided to give up writing the rest of this story.

There are so many reasons why but I'm only going to list a few.

I simply have lost interest in writing a copy of (Mario) The Music Box. This story and the others were intended to novelize the game for those who aren't much of a game person. When I first wrote the original story I must have been about 13 or something, and to me it felt 'original' to replace the characters of the story with Pokemon characters. So, I did. It's only when I'm more grown up now that I realize it was the most cringe thing ever.

Changing a few aspects of a story does not make it 'original', you are merely just replicating it with a few technical differences such as characters or minor tweaks to the story. And looking back at the original, I wish I hadn't written it.

Sorry for those who (actually) wanted this story to be finished but I honestly can't be bothered to write story I bare no interest in anymore. I gave up so many ideas and stories that were actually original (cringey but original) to make a copy of a game in the form of a novelization with a few tweaks to the characters and story.

This will be the last chapter the story gets and again I deeply apologize for those who (actually) like the story but, the original and sane route are complete so hopefully that can suffice for you.

On another note, I will be starting two new fanfictions, and one of them already has a chapter on my page! I will be alternating by working on the two so bear with me.
