P.S: I will be posting a sneak peek of another boondocks story in the next couple of days. So if you get the notification that I added a new chapter, it will most likely be that.
It was Christmas eve. Jazmine was usually up cooking a Christmas eve dinner, baking cookies, and getting ready for the Christmas party she throws every year. She would wear this matching Christmas outfit with her daughter, making sure her hair was perfect. However, it was one in the afternoon and she was still in bed. She wore a plain white t-shirt, grey sweatpants, and her hair was a mess. There was also an empty carton of ice cream laying on the floor. Jazmine could not just find the Christmas spirit. All she could think about was how Caesar tore her heart out, stomped on it, ran over it with his car, then proceeded to set it on fire. All before Christmas, her favorite holiday of all time.
Knock Knock
"Come in," Jazmine called lazily. When the door opened, Cindy and Mrs. Dubois were staring at her.
"Mommy? What are you doing here?"
"I called," Cindy said. "I'm sorry. I couldn't get you out of bed, so I thought maybe your mom could talk to you." She then walked away to give them some privacy.
"Oh, my baby." Mrs. Dubois sat on the bed. Jazmine crawled over to her and laid her head on her mother's lap. She started to sob in her mother's arms. Sarah started to stroke her daughter's hair. "I can't imagine the heartbreak you're going through right now."
"It sucks." Jazmine cried.
"I know, I know." Sarah soothed. "But sweetie, you can't let that cheating bastard ruin your Christmas. Christmas is YOUR holiday. Nobody throws a better Christmas party then you!"
"But mommy, I'm not in the mood to party." Jazmine groaned.
"Jazmine, this may sound harsh, but Christmas is not about you. It's about the kids. There is a little girl downstairs that is worried about her mommy because she hasn't gotten out of bed." Sarah explained.
Jazmine hit herself on the head. How could she have forgotten the most important thing about Christmas? Her daughter! Jazmine did not see the true magic of Christmas until she had Lela. Seeing her daughter's face light up when she opened her present was just the best feeling ever. Just because Jazmine was having the worst Christmas ever, doesn't mean Lela should too. Her daughter did not deserve that.
"You're right. Thank you for talking to me mommy." She gave her a hug. "I'm going to shower and get ready for the day." Jazmine got up, grabbed her clothes, and headed off into the shower.
"Ow! Ow! Ow! Momma stop hitting me!"
"Boy! You! Dumb! Ass!" Mrs. Caesar yelled as she hit her son with a belt. "You did the complete opposite of what I told you to do! I told you to figure out your feelings for each girl! Not go off and CHEAT on Jazmine! I didn't raise you to be a cheater!"
"I mean…. you kinda did."
WACK!
"OW!"
"What you and Diamond did to Jazmine was WRONG, Michael! Just plain wrong! That sweet girl DID not deserve that!"
"I know, and I'm sorry!" Caesar exclaimed. "Momma, what should I do to fix it?"
"Shit, why should I tell you? You're just gonna run off and do the complete opposite of what I tell you."
"Momma, please…"
"Give Jazmine some space." His mother explained. "Don't call her, don't text her, none of that stuff. Over the break, think about who you really want to be with. Then when we come back from New York, see if she would want to talk. Then you apologize for being a two-timing bastard."
"…Thanks mama."
"Shit, don't be thanking me yet. We're going to church while we're out there. You and Diamond are going to do some heavy repentin'. If Jazmine never forgives you, at least the Lord will."
"Alright, Alright." Riley sang. He was in the living room with his Granddad, Uncle Ruckus, Mr. and Mrs. Dubois, Ed Wuncler lll, and Gin Rummy. There was a chalkboard in the living room. One side of the board said "H" while the other half said "C". "Now that Jazmine and Caesar are over, this means Huey is back in the race." Riley explained. Sarah rolled her eyes. "Now, I'm going to go around the room and ask which moron you're rooting for." He turned to Granddad. "Granddad, team Huey or Caesar?"
"Huey, obviously," Grandad said. "He's the father of her kid, it would make sense for them to be together."
Riley put a mark down for Huey. "Uncle Ruckus. Team Huey or Team Caesar?"
"Neither of them niggas! The light-skinned girl deserves a nice white man!" Uncle Ruckus barked.
"I'm with Ruckus on this one." Tom agreed. "For different reasons, obviously. They both broke my daughters heart! Jazmine deserves a guy that will treat her right!"
"That ain't the question, Tom! I said pick between either McHater or McCheater!" Riley fussed.
"Then I guess I would pick…Caesar. He was there for Jazmine since she was pregnant. I also liked that he took Jazmine to all the school dances, because Huey didn't want to take her." Tom explained.
"One mark for Ceez." Riley put down another tally mark. "Mrs. Dubois?"
"I pick Huey." She said simply. "I always thought they were cute together."
"How could you pick Huey over Caesar?" Tom asked.
"Well, he is a great father to Lela, and if given the chance, I think he could make a great husband to Jazmine," Sarah explained.
"He left our daughter!"
"Caesar cheated on her!"
"Another point for Huey." Riley marked down, not trying to start an argument. "Ed, let's hear it."
"Caesar. That Huey bitch is fucking depressing. Least Caesar is funny." Ed rolled his eyes. "Though, if she don't want either of em, I'll be willing to-"
"Like HELL you will!" Tom threatened. Ed went to pull his pistol from his pocket, but Riley glared at him. Ed grumbled and slid his pistol away.
"One point for Caesar." Riley marked. "Gin?"
"Huey. He's a smart dude, and that girl deserves someone that is smart." Gin said.
"Alright, now I get to vote." Riley rubbed his hand together. He marked another point for Huey. "So, we have four points for Huey and two points for Caesar. Looks like team Huey is in the lead."
"Reezy, what the hell is this!?" Cindy whisper yelled when she walked into the living room.
"Babe, team Huey or team Caesar?" Riley asked his fiancée.
"I'm team whatever makes Jazmine happy," Cindy stated. "But if I were to choose…team Huey. Now put that board away before Jazmine gets down here. She doesn't need to be reminded of Caesar right now."
"Make that five points." Riley snickered. He erased the board and moved it out of the room. Jazmine eventually came down the stairs. Her hair was in two space buns, and she wore a cute elf outfit. Her wore foundation, along with some green eyeshadow and lipstick.
"Look at you, girly!" Cindy whistled. She was wearing a red Santa dress, along with red lipstick and red eye shadow. "Lookin hot n shit!"
"Thank you." Jazmine hugged her. Though Jazmine did not feel great, it sure felt nice to look nice.
"I'll meet you in the kitchen. The kids are in there waiting to bake cookies." Cindy said. She then walked off into the kitchen.
"Damn, my Santa is HOT," Riley smirked as he watched his girl walk into the kitchen. Jazmine rolled her eyes and went to get the door, since she heard the doorbell ring. When she opened the door, there stood Huey Freeman.
"Huey…" Jazmine said softly. "I didn't expect you to come."
"Well, you know how I feel about Christmas. But I know this day is important to our daughter." Huey sighed. He then looked at her up and down. "You look…cute."
"Thank you." Jazmine blushed. She moved over so Huey could walk in. "The kids are in the kitchen."
"Alright." Huey made his way into the kitchen. Lela was sitting at the table, molding her cookie dough. She wore the same outfit Jazmine wore. "Hey, baby."
"Daddy!" Lela's face lit up. "You came!"
"Of course, I couldn't miss my first Christmas with my little girl." He leaned down and kissed her head. "Were you good for…Santa?" He choked his name out. Jazmine wanted to laugh.
"Yep! He's going to bring me a Rainbow Dash stuffed animal!" Lela said confidently. "I told him at the mall!"
"Well, you deserve it. You've been an amazing little girl." Huey praised.
Once Huey had moved out on his own, he stopped celebrating Christmas. The only holiday he celebrated was Kwanza with Zhara's family, which he actually enjoyed. This was the first time he was celebrating Christmas since he was 17. It felt kind of awkward sitting at the Freeman dinner table again. First off, him and Riley both had kids. He never imagined him and Riley being dads around the same time. Tom was starring daggers at him, though Huey was used to that now since he worked for him. Uncle Ruckus always had a habit of showing up uninvited. Then there was Ed and Gin. Huey wondered how Riley was able to convince Cindy to let them come for Christmas.
Huey looked towards Jazmine. He had to admit, she looked cute in that elf outfit. He was also glad that she was trying to enjoy herself. Though he knew that she must have been hurting deep down. It took a lot of restraint to drive to Caesar's apartment and beat him to a pulp. Cheating on her around her favorite holiday…even Huey thought that was harsh. Then her coming over to his apartment last night. The kiss they shared was amazing. Huey was not a sucker for romance and clichés, but the kiss just felt like it was meant to happen.
It was around 8'oclock. All the guests went home, besides Huey. Lela wanted him to read her a bedtime story, so he decided to stay. Lela was dressed in her green Christmas footie pajamas. The book she wanted Huey to read was "How The Grinch Stole Christmas" by Dr. Seuss. Reading the story to her made Huey uncomfortable, since Dr. Seuss was totally racist, yet schools kept hyping him up like he was a literacy God or something. Once again, that was only something that Huey cared about. Once he finished the story, Huey tucked Lela in.
"Hey, daddy?" Lela yawned. "What did you ask Santa for Christmas?"
"Uh…Socks?" Huey made something up.
"Really? Socks?"
"…You can never own too many pairs of socks."
Lela giggled at her father. "I wished for Rainbow Dash, but I wished for another thing too."
"Oh yeah…what else did you wish for?"
"I can't tell you, it's a secret." Lela brought her finger to her lips.
"Well, whatever it is…I hope you get it." Huey chuckled slightly, leaned down and kissed her on the head. "Good night Lela, have a Merry Christmas. I'll see you in the morning."
"Good night daddy." Lela yawned. Once Huey left the room, Lela quickly got up and ran to her bedroom window. "Okay, Santa." She whispered. "Don't let me down…"
Jazmine sat outside on her front porch. Her head was fuzzy, and it wasn't from the eggnog. She felt like her heart was racing on the Rainbow Road track in Mario Kart, and she kept falling off the ledge. She knew that was a weird description, but that is how she really felt. There was Caesar. Despite what happened, she still loved him. Her love for him was not going to go away overnight. But she didn't think she would ever forgive him for what he did. The thought of being with him just made her sick to her stomach. Then there was Huey. The kiss they shared last night was out of the world. But Jazmine knew that it was a mistake. She shouldn't have used Huey like that, especially when she knew he still had feelings for her. She knew that deep down she still had feelings for him as well. Though there was no way she could start immediately dating him. She needed to be single for a while. They would also have to talk about some things before Jazmine would consider taking him back.
"Jazmine?" A voice from behind her called. She turned around and saw Huey exiting the front door. "What are you doing out here?"
"Needed to clear my head." Jazmine sighed. "My emotions are just…everywhere right now."
"Understandable," Huey replied, sitting next to her. "I, um got you a present."
Jazmine whipped her head around. "You did?"
"I did." Huey pulled out a purple rectangular box and handed it to her. Jazmine smiled at him before carefully opening the box. Inside the box was a necklace with a ruby stone inside of it. Jazmine's eyes started to sparkle as she looked at it.
"You got me a necklace with my birthstone in it?" Jazmine cried
"Yeah...I actually got one for Lela, as well."
"Aw, thank you, Huey." She leaned over to hug him. She then pulled away to take out her necklace. "Can you, Uhm, help me put it on?" Jazmine asked. Huey nodded, scooting close to her. He carefully wrapped the necklace around her neck and tightened the hook. "Thanks, Huey."
"You're welcome...it looks good on you."
"You really think so?" Jazmine blushed. "Oh, who am I kidding. You never lie about how good I look."
"I never lie about anything Jazmine...except, when it comes to telling Lela that Santa isn't real. Or trying to convince her I enjoy Christmas when I could really care less about it."
"Yeah, Yeah, Yeah." Jazmine sighed. "Fake Pagan holiday. I know."
"I'm not done yet! It is also made up of fake traditions. Like a fucking white fat ass in a sleigh going around the world to deliver presents. Who the FUCK thought that made sense? Oh, and gift-giving? That is just a bunch of propaganda to make us go into debt because we have to buy presents for our loved ones. Now don't get me started on-"
"Mistletoes?"
"I wasn't going to say that."
"No, Huey. Look up."
Huey tilted his head up to see a mistletoe dangling from the roof of the porch. Huey and Jazmine were standing directly below it. Jazmine started to laugh awkwardly.
"I don't remember putting that up there." She then snickered. "Mistletoes…now THAT tradition is stupid. The thought of kissing a complete stranger or a friend for that matter because an artificial plant is dangling over you…haha, that's just lame."
"Yeah, that is stupid…" Huey awkwardly agreed.
The two stayed silent for a moment before Jazmine cleared her throat. She turned away to walk towards the door. "Anyway, Merry Christmas Huey. I will see you to-"She was cut off when Huey grabbed her by the arm. He turned her around and immediately pulled her close to him.
"Huey, what are you doing?" She asked nervously.
"Well, we are under a mistletoe," Huey said, his gaze not leaving hers.
"…I could have sworn you just ranted about how Christmas Traditions are awful"
He brushed one of Jazmine's loose curls from out of her face. "Some traditions aren't all the bad."
Before Jazmine could protest, Huey's lips were already on hers. Jazmine didn't bother to try and pull away. She instantly placed her hands right on his chest. She felt his heart beating through his sweater. Huey brought his hand and lifted her chin. As they kissed, snow started to fall from the sky. Though Huey considered himself an atheist, he swore that was a sign from the Gods. He and Jazmine were meant to be.
After a moment of kissing, the two finally pulled away. Jazmine smiled and kissed him on the nose.
"Merry Christmas, Huey."
"…Back at you, Jazmine." He slowly backed away from her. "I'll see you in the morning." He said before walking to his car. Jazmine giggled to herself as she watched Huey leave. Maybe kissing Huey wasn't a mistake after all…
Upstairs, Lela Rose Freeman was watching the whole thing happen with her parents. "Thank you Santa!" She whispered and quickly ran back into her bed. Sure, she really wanted that Rainbow Dash stuffed animal….
But what she wanted more, was to have her Mommy and Daddy back together again.
"Ah Yeah! They did it! Team Huey for the win!"
"You know Reezy…you're almost as hype for team Huey vs Team Caesar kind of reminds me of Twilight." Cindy joked.
"Ew, not that gay vampire-werewolf shit! This is some real romance right here!" He then turned to Cindy. "But…I was hella smooth with that mistletoe though, right?"
"You were." Cindy credited. "You predicted the exact spot they would have a moment alone together. Pretty impressive."
"Hell yea…also babe…look up," Riley smirked. Cindy looked up to see another mistletoe hanging from the ceiling of their bedroom.
"Boy! How the hell did you-" Cindy was flabbergasted.
"SEE! I told you your man was good!" Riley clapped. "Now get over here." Riley lifted Cindy's chin, giving her a soft kiss on the lips. After a moment, they pulled away.
"I love you Reezy."
"I love you too." Riley kissed her head. "Also, you look fuckin HAWT in that Santa dress."
"Why thanks, babe," Cindy smirked, wrapping arms around his neck.
"You're welcome…" Riley's hand slid up Cindy's leg. "Couldn't keep my eyes off of you all night."
"Oh yeah? Well…my six weeks are up~"
"About fucking time," Riley mumbled before hungrily kissing her. Now that was something he could rub in Huey's face. He only got a kiss, but Riley was out here about to have the best sex he's had since Cindy's second trimester.
The next day was Christmas morning. Jazmine had stepped outside to see if anyone had dropped off any last-minute presents. On 's old porch swing, there was a present that had white and purple striped paper. Jazmine picked it up to see who it was for. The note attached to it was addressed to her. She opened the note to read it.
"Dear Jazmine,
I didn't get a chance to give you this before, well, you know what happened. Despite that, I still believe you deserve your Christmas present. Just know, that I am sorry for what I did. If you never want to speak to me again, I understand. But if you ever want to talk, I am always a phone call away.
Merry Christmas- Signed Caesar.
Jazmine hesitantly opened the present. Inside, there was a silver necklace along with matching earrings. She started to smile and held the box close to her heart.
"Hey, Cindy!" Jazmine called. "Come check out this matching necklace and earrings! I want to see how much they will sell for at the pawn shop!"
