Chapter two
Close to a month had passed and almost nothing had happened
After Linad and Denali had arrived and set up a base of operations at the barracks in Jenkali's Planetary defense force headquarters the investigation to try to find the elusive chaos cult on the planet had begun. Denali, being from the Inquisition, had brought along some men trained by the Inquisition, they were sent out around the planet to try to uncover the workings of the cult and where they were, but for the past month they had been unable to find much of anything. Other than a few arrests of some low ranking cultists, which they were unable to get any important information from anyway, they had nothing to show for their time and effort
Linad was currently sitting in their headquarters in the morning, which was in the top tower of the barracks in the west part of the city, the location offered them a commanding view of the city below, around him chapter serfs and other menials toiled away looking at documents, handling calls and potential leads, and generally just trying to find any sign of the cult that they could, mostly to no avail. A few minutes later Denali came up in a foul mood, it was clear early on that when he was handling hidden cults he wanted results and fast, and the month of near inactivity had done nothing to help his temper.
"Is there any news on the cult?" Denali asked in a tense voice, when all he got for a answer was a shake of the head from the busy menials Denali voiced his displeasure. "Then I want you to get me some information about them and soon, this is becoming a chore."
Linad then said. "Give it some time Denali, hounding the men about information isn't going to make something magically appear." Then, as if on cue, one of the menials jumped out of his seat and ran up to Denali and Linad.
"My lords, I have received news of a large colony of vehicles traveling to Jenkali that according to an anonymous tip is carrying cultists, and quite possibly one of their leaders." This stunned Linad who stayed silent for a moment while Denali had a grin on his face.
"Are you sure about what you said Linad?" Denali said
"Shut it Denali." Linad shot back
Denali then went about ordering the men to get ready and Linad went to prepare himself and his company to go engage as it was expected for the battle company accompanying the 11th to be the ones fighting as the 11th were less numerous with fighters. 20 minutes later 50 men, half of the 5th company along with a detachment of guardsmen, were ready and waiting. They loaded into transport vehicles and raced through the streets of Jenkali, the route they took had been cleared so they could get through the city much faster, soon they were out of the city gates and were racing down the mountainside toward the marshes below. While they were driving Linad was giving a briefing to his men while Denali gave the guardsmen and his 11th company troops their briefing.
"We need to catch this convoy out on the open road men, out here they can't go anywhere except forward and backward as long as they are in the marsh, if they make it to Jenkali then we have to fight them on their turf, in the narrow confines of the streets where they can hide like the rats they are, I know you won't fail me, the Emperor protects." The men repeated the phrase back and they readied themselves for the fight ahead of them.
Soon the vehicles stopped and lined up to form a makeshift barricade that would hopefully force the convoy to stop, and they waited, the marsh around them was silent and foggy, visibility wasn't terrible but the fog was a little annoying, soon enough though, they saw it. Lights lit up the fog about a mile away from the barricade and they started to hear the distant roar of engines, Denali then sent out a message to all vox channels in the area.
"By order of the Emperors holy inquisition I order you to halt and standby for inspection convoy, you are suspected of treason of the highest order." Linad wasn't happy to hear Denali announcing them as the inquisition and underneath his helmet Linads frown deepened, his armor was mostly gray, with a line of painted flame going down the center of his arms, legs, and the center of his torso with a skull in the center of his chest piece and the wings coming from it also being the color of flames, on his belt and left shoulder was the symbol of the Flamimg Blades, a blade in the center of a roaring inferno, and his right shoulder had the V denoting the 5th company.
The convoy didn't heed Denali's warning and continued to barrel ahead at full speed, they were given one final warning over the vox, then they opened fire on the convoy, the affect was devastating, the first truck in the convoy swerved back and forth then tipped over on its side and then slid to a stop, the rest of the convoy had to stop, the men with Linad advanced forward cautiously. Suddenly a group of cultists appeared on top of the tipped over truck and began firing, the fight soon became a shootout between the barricade of vehicles and the cultists at the tipped over truck. Linad called to his men.
"Prepare to charge, well flush the bastards out from behind these trucks, shoot to injure, keep them alive if you can!" Linad felt the anger rise within him and he took out his power sword which he lit up with psychic fire, a few others who could do that in the 5th company also lit their blades and with a roar they charged towards the tipped over truck. Along with his marines Linad clambered onto the truck and fought in melee, he stabbed one enemy and while the first was stuck on his sword he grabbed another and flung him off the truck with his left hand after holstering his Bolter pistol, another two charged at him and he snapped one of their necks with a punch and bisected the other one.
It didn't take long before the tipped over truck had been cleared and the guardsmen moved up as the space marines advanced and slaughtered most of the convoy, keeping a few alive when they could. Soon they were nearing the back of the convoy and suddenly two marines started holding their heads and screaming, Linad looked around and saw a woman wearing a cloak with the chaos Star on the back of it as well as grey and red clothing, she was holding he hands out towards the men and Linad went to charge at her when the two men screaming suddenly had their necks snap and died. The woman opened her eyes and as Linad charged her their eyes met and a chill passed through Linads body, the woman, obviously the leader of the convoy then put her hands up, the rest of the convoy surrendered when that happened, after what she had done Linad was angry. she thinks she can kill my men then just surrender and I'll just arrest her!? Linad went to kill the woman but before he could Denali intervened.
"Linad control yourself, we're taking her into custody to question her."
"You want to question her after what she just did, do you know how much havoc she could cause!?" Linad angrily replied
"It is well worth the risk Linad, we can't pass up this chance, another may not come anytime soon." With those words Denali walked off with the cultists leader being escorted by two marines with Linad fuming at what had just transpired, he then calmed himself down and went to see to it that the two dead battle brothers were to be taken care off well
