A/N: Hey I'm so sorry this took so long but school really decided to be a bitch but we're back. I also realised the date has been wrong I don't know what was going through my head but we're just going to pretend it was 1976 all along okay? I'm re-watching Julie and the Phantoms for the fourth time and I got some inspiration so without further ado here is the next chapter finally!
CHAPTER 10
20th September 1976
Lily's POV:
Emma tried out for Quidditch yesterday and it actually went great I'm so sure she's guaranteed a spot on that team but it's James' decision. Emma's been extremely anxious about waiting for the list though. It was interesting observing James in his natural habit of Quidditch, he has great amazing leader qualities. I was only there for Emma, but my eyes were drawn to him… So, I'm back in the band and to be honest so far, it's been better. I'm on my way to the library because Professor Flitwick asked me to help a 4th year who's been struggling in charms.
I pick out a table and check my watch as I look up, I see a girl with long unruly black hair trying to be tamed in a slick ponytail and blue eyes looking intently at me. Her face shape is familiar, but I can't place it.
"Hi. Are you Isabella?" I ask her.
"Yes."
"Well I'm Lily-
"Evans I know who you are…sorry it's just I've always admired you."
"Aw thank you. So, Professor Flitwick told me you've been having trouble in Charms?"
"Yep."
"Alright then. Let's start take a seat and get out your Charms books and we'll see where you're at." I tell her.
It's bugging me that I cannot remember who she reminds me of but then her hand slides through her hair and she scrunches her nose as she writes my notes down then it hits me…
James Potter. She resembles him in her looks and manner. Does James have a little sister? I can't recall maybe my memory's gone all hazy. He might but I'll find that out later. See I don't pay THAT much attention to him!
I say goodbye to Isabella a tell her I'll see her next week at the same time. My prediction is confirmed when I hear the recognisable voice of James Potter say, "Hey Bells, how it's going?"
"Hey JJ, I'm alright, how are you?"
"I'm great! We got Lily to re-join the band and it's going great. Is she in here? I've been looking all over for her."
"That's amazing James, I still can't believe you convinced her to join in the first place but I'm glad there's someone around who can keep you guys in check," she laughs and so does he, "she's just a couple tables down."
"Thanks Bell you still up for Sunday?" What's happening on Sunday?
"Yeah of course see you around JJ." I hear her footsteps begin to lead away.
"Bye Bells." He says cheerily and I see him being to make his way over to me I quickly dig my head into my books pretending to be extremely busy. I wasn't eavesdropping what do you mean?
"Hey Lily! You're not too busy to talk for a little bit?"
"And if I said I was…?"
"I would continue to talk to you anyways." He dimples appear when I look up at him and set down my quill.
"Of course you would. So, what's up?"
"I was just wondering if you would be up for writing some songs tonight?"
"Yeah sure."
"Do you mind if we do it in the Common Room? We'll do it after everyone goes to bed and I'll do a muffliato spell so no one can hear you."
It's nice to hear him taking my stage fright into consideration but it is a risk…, "You know what? Sure."
"Great see you 10pm. Everyone is usually up in their dorm by then."
He was right. I come down into the Common Room and see the fire illuminating James' figure with the outline of a guitar resting on his knees, a couple notebooks and pieces of scrap paper sitting on the coffee table in front of him. He's wearing black and red plaid pyjama trousers and a black t-shirt. His glasses are crooked, and his hair is messier than usual. He looks so at peace while writing something down in a notebook.
I'm also in my pjs, grey sweatpants and an over-sized light blue t-shirt that was my dad's, I like taking bits of my family to Hogwarts, so it feels like they are there with me. My hair is in a messy bun and I have my song-writing notebooks with me with pages sticking out all over the place.
He begins to play, and I freeze at the bottom of the stairs:
"Common sense tells me kiss the girl goodbye
Common sense tells me leave it all behind
Common sense says the girl's not worth my time
But common sense ain't common when you come to mind
Common sense told me she was not worthwhile
Common sense said don't go the extra mile
Common sense said go back and reconcile
But common sense forgot about her smile
Second chances are thought of to be weak
Second chances in volumes do they speak
Second chances aren't given usually
But a second chance is all I really need
I think I love you
I want to love you
Please let me love you
I wish to show you how to love
Common sense tells me kiss the girl goodbye
Common sense tells me leave it all behind
Common sense says the girl's not worth my time
But common sense ain't common when you come to mind
No, common sense ain't common when you come to mind"
I wonder who that's about? Is it about me? No definitely not he could never write a song as amazing as that about me. I'll have to find out...
"Hey James."
"Oh, hi Lily." Does he know I heard that? Should I tell him?
"That song sounded wonderful by the way."
"You heard that? Thank." I nod and he avoids my eyes for a minute.
"So, let's get started shall we."
We write for a few hours and we've completed a full song and then begun a few others and came up with concepts for other ones. I love writing with James everything just flows so perfectly.
"Would you like to run through it again?"
Tell me something you never told before
Before I walk through the door, I adore you, I adore you
I do
I do
Smile with me and cry with me
I won't ever tell a soul
Hold my hand, I'll squeeze it back
And I'll never let go
Never give up, never look back
I won't give up, I'll keep on trying
Dry your tears up, all your crying
Cannot fix me up, my darling
Fix me up, my darling
Twisty, turn-y, winding path
I could listen to your laugh
As I tiptoe down these humble truths
I don't wanna lose you
Show me how to love deeper than the surface, my friend
And you can show me what it means to have purpose
And I'll tell you again
Never give up, never look back
I won't give up, I'll keep on trying
Dry your tears up, all your crying
Cannot fix me up, my darling
Fix me up, my darling
Hold on
Don't you lose hope, the sky's not falling
Please just listen 'cause I'll be calling
Stay with me just one more moment
I know you're in pain, just please don't show it
One more moment, please
It's too late, I'm afraid I have to leave
One more moment, please
It's too late, I'm afraid I have to leave
One more moment, please
It's too late, I'm afraid I have to leave
One more moment, please
It's too late, I'm afraid I have to leave
Just promise me, promise me that you'll
Never give up, never look back
I won't give up, I'll keep on trying
Dry your tears up, all your crying
Cannot fix me up, my darling
Fix me up, my darling
Fix me up, my darling
Fix me up, my darling"
We finish and I hear clapping. Shit! Who heard me? No this cannot be happening! Oh Merlin!
"Well the whole point of that studio schedule was to keep you from running into each other, but I see that won't be a problem anymore." Albus Dumbledore says as his eyes twinkle.
"Professor, I'm so sorry! We just ran over time I guess...we'll go to bed now and James kind of run into me in the studio back accident so that's how this happened. Wait how could you hear us? I though you said you put a muffliato spell on us." I stare at James.
"I did. But Lily it's Dumbledore!"
"Right. Again, I apologise severely Professor."
"Lily it's okay. The song was beautiful. I was wondering if you both and the rest of the band would like to perform after the Halloween feast for some entertainment?"
"We'd love to!" James responds before I can get a word in. I smile and stand on his foot aggressively trying to make sure Dumbledore didn't notice. James almost yelps but holds it in.
"Great. It's lovely to see you to working together. Go get some rest now. Goodnight."
"Goodnight Professor." We say in unison.
When Dumbledore leaves, I begin, "Potter! I have stage fright! I can't do this!" Before he gets the chance to defend himself, I rush up my dorm in a rage.
I accidentally wake up Emma, "Lily! Why are you up so late?"
"I hate James Potter!" I try to calm myself down a bit and keep my voice down, so I don't wake up the other girls.
"You were with James?" She gives me a suggestive look.
"Oh, shut up! We were just writing songs."
"Yeah love songs..."
"Ugh no! Dumbledore caught us."
"Caught you doing what?" This girl has the audacity to WINK at me.
"Writing songs. Nothing else! It's not like that! Plus, now I hate him again." I love Emma but she's getting on my nerves right now.
"Why?"
"Because Dumbledore asked the band to perform after the Halloween feast!"
"Lily, that's great!"
"No, it's not You know I can't perform in front of people without my Nana there...and the idiot already agreed without even asking my permission first!"
"Lil, it's a great opportunity I think it would be amazing, but I understand that you feel uncomfortable, but the guys will be there supporting and so will I. They've never performed in front of people at school either you'll all be in the same boat. I know you can do it! I think you should sleep on it and talk to the guys in the morning about it and see how it goes from there."
"Thanks Ems."
21st September 1976
James' POV:
Lily is mad at me, so this day already sucks, hopefully she'll talk to me. We may be able to convince her to do it. Maybe...then I get lost in my own head thinking about Lily.
CRASH!
"I'm so sorry! I didn't see you there!"
I've bumped into a girl who's currently on the floor picking up her textbooks and I bend down and help her.
"Don't worry about it! Thanks for heling!" She has ocean blue eyes with blonde hair to compliment them. She is beautiful even though my type is redheads.
"I'm Alana Lockheart."
"Yeah I've seen you around here before," I just never really looked at her because I was too focused on antagonising Lily, "I'm James Potter."
"See you around James."
A/N: Sorry this took so long! Do you think the boys will convince Lily to perform? Will Lily have to look out for Alana?
