They were surrounded by their own Pokémon; there was two golbats and two snarling raticate. The front two people were far more striking, a woman with a head of magenta hair and flanked by a hissing arbok. The other a small man with blue hair, a weezing floating by his head. In front of the six Team Rocket's was a meowth and to the shock of the three trainers and the nurse was stood upright and then, started talking.
"If you lot hand over all the pokes in this here fine building no ones has to get hurt." The strange meowth said in an awfully thick Galarian accent. "Nurse, all of the cripples can join aswells unless they wants to cut it." Stlix's eyebrows climbed as he listened to the arrogant Pokémon. It seemed strange to operate here, at the heart of a city where the gym leader was in a professed crusade against Team Rocket activities.
Both Ash and Misty proclaimed their adamant refusal of giving away their Pokémon and the nurse echoed it as she quickly tapped a button under the desk.
"No one is coming Nurse and these brats won't have Pokémon capable of saving and the pink blob well, it can work with us unless it wants to see you die." The woman with magenta hair said coldly. "So, I suggest you listen and quickly." Misty and Ash went for a pokeball at their belt, but Ash's belt was empty, and Misty's arm fell once she remembered how hurt her own Pokémon were. The woman laughed at that and Stlix twisted his lips as the Meowth turned to him.
"You to, ya know, hop to it." Stlix pulled his own pokeball from his belt as the woman's arbok lunged forward, poison dripping from large fangs. Only for inches of the pearly white to snap of as they encountered a steely leg.
"The brat's got a metagross, all of you, attack." The meowth ordered the grunts. The golbats launched forward with dark energy gathering around their maws and the two raticates scampered forward with hyper fang. The weezing blew out a smokescreen and the arbok fell unconscious beneath a hammer like leg. Floaty pushed the nurse and trainers together and puled a protect around them then the golbats collided with a light screen and one raticate was hit with a bullet punch. The other raticate dodged around the bullet punch and sunk its large incisors into a steely body. Or it tried but the teeth slid off the metal titan with barely a scratch to show for its effort. The great metagross then flung the rat telekinetically at its trainer before systematically rendering all the Pokémon comatose.
The meowth didn't attack the metagross but instead leapt at Stlix with lengthened claws, intent on forcing the steel type to surrender with its trainer held hostage. Stlix grinned and plucked his newest pokeball and released Beda into the meowth's path. The fury swipes sliced into the armoured form of the larvitar. She yelped slightly in pain and bit the meowth with dark energy.
The meowth screamed as the teeth designed to chew through rock grated on its arm bones. Stlix ordered a metal claw to knock out the Pokémon. Beda followed through and knocked the meowth insensate. She gave a chirrup of victory before running to butt her head against Stlix's leg. Floaty had meanwhile grabbed hold of the Team Rocket members with psychic and floated them above their comatose Pokémon.
"That's not fair." A voice came quietly from the fading protect screen. "I started the same time as you, so how do you have a fully evolved Pokémon already?" Stlix just shrugged in Ash's direction before walking to Nurse Joy.
"Do you have another way to call Officer Jenny or Gym Leader Giovanni?" He asked the nurse. She gave a nod before walking back to her desk and pulling out a phone but before a call went through a voice spoke.
"Well, I heard about Rocket activity at the Pokémon centre, but I see I am not needed." Came a surprised drawl. The trainers turned to see a man with a 10-foot tall rhyperior behind him. He walked in and laughed at the floated Rockets. "I see they are packaged for transport as well. Can I ask which trainer has the metagross?" As both Ash and Misty turned to Stlix the gym leader looked over as well. "Congratulations young man, I will need to see your ID but it's a magnificent specimen I don't doubt could give me a good battle." Stlix walked over to the man and pulled out his ID for perusal. Giovanni gave a surprised expression at that. "Well, I guess that explains the metagross, but I would have thought a beldum would be your starter instead of that strangely caring larvitar."
He then walked over to Nurse Joy and checked she was ok before snatching the Rockets pokeballs and recalling the linked Pokémon. Soon there was only a rhyperior, metagross, larvitar, meowth and chansey that just waddled in holding a clipboard. Upon seeing the normal type Stlix's eyes widened before revisiting a mental note to talk to the first Nurse Joy.
Then a growlithe walked through the front door, followed swiftly by a blue haired woman in a blue uniform. She was followed by four other police officers who each grabbed a thug and cuffing them. As each thug was grabbed and cuffed metagross let go of the same thug from the psychic hold. The officers returned to grab the remaining criminals.
She went to talk to Stlix and the other trainers, but Giovanni waved her off with a promise he would take care of it. Officer Jenny then promptly left, and Giovanni asked all the trainers and Nurse Joy to make themselves comfortable and run through the events.
Seated upon a comfortable couch in the centre's cafeteria, Beda upon his lap and Floaty returned to a pokeball, Stlix spoke about how he asked the metagross to take care of the thugs whilst protecting the people without Pokémon. Since the battle had been concluded Misty had given over her two pokeballs and Ash had a pikachu perched upon his shoulder.
"You are a new trainer, correct?" To Ash's nod, Giovanni produced a pokeball from his pocket. "Take this one, I don't have time to train her, but you will need another dependable Pokémon to take on Brock. His rock types will take more than a pikachu to defeat and Pokémon between here and Pewter won's match up without serious training." With trembling hands, Ash took the pokeball and released the Pokémon inside quickly with a thanks. The following flash of light receded to reveal a furry striped blob with a large pink nose. Stlix raised his eyebrows, a swinub, a rarity in Kanto with their own lack of prominent ice types and it becomes a mamoswine, a serious heavyweight no matter what Pokémon it is compared against. Then Giovanni started talking again. "I would offer another to Miss Waterflower, but I presume her own preference for water types and I also believe Mr Stone will not need a gifted Pokémon." Stlix shook his head at the man as Misty nodded. "Good I will be off then though I hope to see all of you soon enough for a Gym challenge." With the parting statement he left and as Nurse Joy rose to attend her desk Stlix stopped her.
"Nurse Joy?" She turned to face him, and he continued. "Do you know where I would be able to get a chansey I believe they would help my team out massively?" All other centre occupants turned to face him with confused expressions, the normal type had no presence in any serious battlers' team due to their lack natural battling ability. The nurse looked at his earnest face before nodding and asking him to wait in Viridian for three days.
During those three days both Ash and Misty left for Viridian forest and Stlix stayed to wait for the nurse and train Beda. Upon his third day in the city nurse Joy called him to a room in the Pokémon centre. When he walked into the room, he says nurse Joy and her chansey but the chansey was surrounded by five happiny.
"These are my own chansey's children." Nurse Joy said. "If any wish to come with you they can do so, I will ask you to check in with my relatives so they can check the happiny's health if they go." He nodded and knelt in front of the tiny Pokémon. For a minute nothing happened but then a braver happiny walked over and poked his leg. Upon a lack of reaction, the Pokémon poked harder before giggling and hugging the leg. Stlix smiled at the tiny Pokémon before patting its head. The Pokémon grabbed his hand before giggling again. None of the other happiny walked over and soon after the chansey lead them out of the back of the room.
Ten minutes later he asked the small Pokémon a question.
"Little one." He said grabbing her attention. "I intend on traveling the entire world to see all of its sights, to do that I need someone to help keep me and my partners healthy, do you want to do that?" The Pokémon tilted her head cutely before bobbing in place to indicate agreement. Nurse Joy also smiled at that then.
"Thank Arceus for a sensible trainer." She spoke. "Too many of you charge out into the world without a care about health or safety. And that's why you wished for a chansey, yes?" At his nod she continued. "This little one can go with you provided you can buy a comfortable pokeball and I will put on your ID for my family to see about this one's health." She bit her lip and rocked it from side to side for a moment before nodding. "And when happiny is ready go to any Pokémon centre and ask for an oval stone, to let her evolve into a chansey, I thank you by the way for the Rockets and giving me hope for the trainer population."
He let out a laugh at that before picking up the happiny and going to find a suitable pokeball. Two hours later with happiny captured in a luxury ball to keep her comfortable. He let her sit on his shoulder as he walked into Viridian forest on his way to Pewter city.
