Chapter 9: Homecoming and Proposal
Vergil woke up to a ringing phone at his bedside. Who the fuck would be calling me this early? He groaned. Not thinking twice about it, He used his tail to pick up the cell phone and place it into his palm.
"Hello?"
"Sir, this is Mr. Wright, the foreman you hired." Vergil woke up as he recognized the name. Our home….
"Yes, Good Morning. What is the matter?"
"Great News Sir, the Manor is complete. Would you like to meet up at 9 am today for final inspection?"
"Yes, I would. I will be there promptly. I appreciate your call. Thank you."
"My pleasure Sir." Mr. Wright said. "I will expect you at 9 am, see you then." When the call ended, Vergil got up and got ready. He looked at the time and saw it was 6 am but he didn't dare go back to sleep. There was a lot to do.
He ran downstairs and was shocked to see Dante preparing breakfast, also dressed and alert. The hunter was also surprised to see the Dark Slayer.
"Good Morning Babe, you're up early."
"The foreman just called me; our home is complete. I'm meeting him at 9 am today. Would you like to accompany me?"
"Yes, I'd love to." Dante said as he set down breakfast for the elder first before setting his own. The two ate in silence but Vergil saw that Dante was a bit nervous. He held his hand and looked at him in reassurance.
"I know you are concerned, and I understand. But we will be fine." Vergil said softly. He knew that Dante was worried on what had happened to their parents would happen to them. He was worried that if that did, that Nero would be lost again. I will ask him tonight. Once we wed, the bond will be complete.
They approached the foreman promptly at 9 am and Dante looked at the newly restored home. The manor was modernized but it had the same sense of elegance and antiquity. Their mother's garden was fixed as well, and this pleased Dante. He fondly remembered when he and Vergil ran through the garden to dodge their father after stealing cookies before dinner. They had a victory picnic in the heart of the maze while Sparda searched for them. He didn't catch up with them until dinner time! Dante chuckled as he remembered as they managed to dodge the elder. Vergil knew a secret path that Sparda did not.
"My Heart," He heard the Dark Slayer call out as he placed a hand onto his shoulder. "Are you ready to go inside?" Dante smiled softly and turned, allowing the elder to escort him in.
They looked at each other and walked in. Dante chuckled softly as he looked at the stairs, as he remembered how many times they ran around and hid from their parents, giggling at how their parents couldn't find them. He looked at the elder and smiled fondly at the memory. He heard Vergil chuckle as well, knowing that he remembered.
"We were a handful, weren't we?" Dante asked softly. Vergil smiled.
"Yes, we were." He agreed as he moved a stray hair away from Dante's face. As they walked further inside, Dante stopped still at the wardrobe. His face was pale, and he was stuck in place as the memory played out. Vergil saw him tremble and hugged him from behind. "My Heart, you're safe. I'm here." This relaxed the Hunter. Vergil made a note to replace that wardrobe. He gently led the Hunter away from it and they continued upstairs. Dante saw their old room and slowly went to it, opening the door. He saw that the colors were a bit different. They were navy blue and scarlet red. The bed and furniture were a brownish gold wood. There was a single crib, cradle, changing table, dresser with wardrobe, and carpet on the floor. There were also toys and all. There was even a comfortable recliner rocking chair close to the crib, complete with soft lamps, a mobile and baby monitor. Dante's eyes welled with tears of joy.
"A nursery!" He exclaimed. He turned to smile at the elder. Vergil chuckled and hugged him.
"Do you like it My Heart?"
"I love it!" He whispered as he hugged the elder tight. Vergil smiled and held him. It was perfect. They stayed there for a bit before Vergil gently led him away and continued the tour. Dante couldn't believe how much love and attention to detail Vergil had put into the restoration. He gasped when they stopped at the Master bedroom. He blushed shyly. He remembered when their parents were there, their father reading by the window, their mother at the vanity quietly brushing her hair. Vergil hugged him gently and gave him a smile of encouragement. With a deep breath, Dante opened the doors and breathed a sigh of relief. The room was completely different but were still elegant and simple. There were deep dark cherry woods, mahogany and holly. The fabrics were a blend of deep dark reds and deep blues that were near black. The bed alone had Dante blushing scarlet. It was a King-sized four poster bed in deep dark Hawthorne. The sheets were deep blue black with scarlet, complete with curtains…
"Oh my….."Dante gasped softly, still blushing. Vergil smiled and lightly massaged the Hunter's shoulders. Dante moaned softly and Vergil growled lustfully. He feels safe in our nest. This pleases me…He blinked when he heard a loud grumble.
"Oh, come with me, I have something for us outside." The elder said as he gently escorted his beloved outside onto the terrace. Dante gasped at the candlelit dinner set up with a red and blue rose centerpiece. Vergil gently escorted the Hunter to their seats and pulled out his seat, waiting patiently. Dante smiled and sat down. Vergil pushed him in and kissed him softly before taking his own seat. He reached over and held the Hunter's hands in his.
"My Heart, there is something I want to ask you."
"What is it Babe?" Dante asked. "You can ask me anything."
"I love you, and I want you with me always." The Dark Slayer said firmly. Dante gasped; his hunger abated. Vergil removed a blue-black velvet box from his coat pocket and knelt before the Hunter. He opened it and Dante sobbed. It was a beautiful silver and gold band with a red and blue rose on the side. It glowed blue and soft purple. It reminded the Hunter of Nero. It's a bit of all of us as well. As a family…. Thank God I'm sitting down….
"Vergil…" Dante gasped softly.
"Dante, will you be mine?"
"Yes." Dante whispered. "I will."
