Five days passed and Olivia was still refusing to see Ed. Olivia had not been sleeping as well as she should have been. Time and time again she wondered if she was doing the right thing, and the dark circles under her eyes told everyone she was suffering. She had to protect herselve and tye people she loves from Brian- once he'd set his sights on someone he'd make it his mission to make them suffer. Olivia couldn't do that to Ed- she had to keep her resolve up. She might love him, but she couldn't expect Ed to live her life in fear.
And what about the boys? It wasn't their fault that Brian had set his sights on them- it was Olivia's. If she had never got fell for Ed then none of this would have happened. Why did she always do this? When everything was okay, she upset the apple cart and caused chaos for everyone around her. Well not anymore, she deserved to be left alone.
Olivia is walking around the hospital garden when someone says" Olivia?'
The voice brought Olivia back down to earth with a bump. The voice was one she recognised all too well, but it sounded different- distorted and broken almost. Olivia slowly dragged her eyes over towards the door. She took in Ed's trainers, the black jeans and the black shirt. The second Olivia dragged her eyes up to meet Ed she felt sick. Ed looked as dishevelled as she was. His eyes were full of tears and there were dark circles under his eyes. And his skin was paler than Olivia had ever seen. Is this what a few days apart was doing to them both?
'Ed…' Olivia dropped her eyes to the floor which didn't go unnoticed by Ed. He felt disappointed but didn't push it.
'I…I… uh… it's good to see you… finally'
'Don't Ed"
'Don't what?'
'Don't do this now.'
'Olivia, this doesn't make sense. Please talk to me. Did you get my letter?'
Olivia nodded still refusing to look at Ed Ed walks in to the garden he could see that Olivia had been feeling the strain like him. She was pale, and her eyes were rubbed raw- like she hadn't been sleeping either. Sitting down opposite Olivia, he tried to catch her eye but Olivia was still intent on watching the floor.
'Olivia?'
'What Ed?'
'If you got my letter, why are you still not letting me in? Did I do something wrong?'
'No'
'Well then what is it? Because none of this makes sense. One minute we were happy and the next you're refusing to see me. Why is that?'
'Can you not just leave it?'
'No I will not leave it. Don't I get a say in this? I love you, does that not account for anything?'
'Ed, I… I don't know what you want from me'
'I want you to be honest with me. Please'
'There's nothing to say Ed. It's over'
'That's it?'
'That's it'
Ed took the initiative and knelt in front of Olivia, gently grabbing her cheeks and pushing upwards, making them lock eyes for the first time in nearly a week.
'Olivia, I know you don't mean it. You love me. Tell me you don't'
'Ed, I can't be with you'
'Why not? You can't tell me you don't love me, so there is something else you won't tell me. Why not? I can handle anything you tell me. For a minute, forget about everything else. Remember what it's like when its just me and you. Me and you- nothing else matters. The boys do obviously, but I mean besides them. I know you love me Olivia and I love you, so what's stopping us?'
'B…' Olivia had the word on the edge of her tongue but something stopped her. She hated what she was doing to Ed, but in the long run he would thank her for it.
'Tell me Olivia, whatever it is'
'B…B…I can't do this Ed'
'Olivia, why can't you trust yourself. You did before so whats changed?'
'Me.'
'Yes you have. You're not the scared woman you were when I met you. You stood up to Brian'
At the mention of Brian, Olivia jumped away from Ed and began to cry. Ed began to move towards her but Olivia shouted him away.
'No! Please don't come near me!'
'Olivia, what is it?'
'Ed, please. Just accept what I'm saying.'
'I can't'
'Why not?'
Not caring, Ed kissed Olivia. A sense of urgency as he poured all of his pent up emotions into that moment. Olivia was surprised for a moment, and swept away in the emotion of the moment, reciprocated hooking her arms around Ed's neck, pulling him closer. But then her head began to run away from her and she pushed herself away from Ed. Peering at him wide eyed, Olivia looked more frightened than Ed had ever seen her.
'That's why I can't accept it Olivia. That moment right there'
