Chapter 11: There Goes The New Year
It's the night of Toy Day when there was a black-nosed reindeer, who was wearing a red suit, and delivered the presents to the good residents of Triforce. His name's Jingle, he's always the holly jolly reindeer and was full of good spirits. Vicki and Robert were very surprised that Jingle was coming to Triforce. They waved at him and went to see him right away.
"Ho ho ho! Happy Toy Day to both of you!" said Jingle happily. "I have a present to each of you! So, don't be shy! You deserved a gift from me!"
"Wow, thanks a bunch, Jingle!" said Vicki and Robert excitedly, as Jingle took out the presents from his sack and gave them to the two humans.
"One for you, and one for you! Happy holidays!"
"Happy holidays to you, too, Jingle!"
Vicki and Robert waved at Jingle and went to their homes with gifts in their hands. The black-nosed reindeer carried his sack once again and started to wander around the island. Suddenly, he ran into Sammy and Jimmy who were dying to receive their presents from him.
"Ho ho ho! Happy Toy Day, you two!" said Jingle gleefully.
"Hey Jingle!" said Sammy and Jimmy in unison.
"Oh, I have a present for both of you. Here you go!" Jingle put down his sack, took out the presents from it, and gave them to Sammy and Jimmy.
"Thank you so much, Jingle!" said the Slapjacks happily. "Happy holidays!"
Sammy and Jimmy went home very happily because they finally received their presents from Jingle. As soon as they got home, they immediately opened up their gifts and found out what they got from the black-nosed reindeer. They received the small basket full of holiday treats, so they took one candy at a time from the basket and ate it.
"Mm-hmm, this is so delicious!" said Sammy happily.
"Yeah, very delicious!" Jimmy agreed.
Inside of Robert's house, Vicki stopped by and joined him as they opened up their presents together. She was very nervous that she gave him a present whether he liked it or not. As soon as he unwrapped it, he received a new comic book from her. Although, it's not his favorite series, but this comic book was the new series he had never seen or heard before.
"Impressive, this comic book is very new to me!" said Robert excitedly, while Vicki started to chuckle nervously. "I mean, the new title I have never heard of or seen before. I wonder whether it's popular or not, but I can't wait to read it! Thanks for the present, Vicki! I'll plan to read this later!"
"So glad that you like it, Robert!" Vicki smiled daintily. "Now, let me open mine and see what I'll get from you!"
Vicki unwrapped her present that Robert gave her and was dying to see what she got. He was a bit anxious of whether she liked the present or not. As soon as she revealed her gift, she was surprised that she got the light novel for Toy Day. She recognized that this novel was the new series, which she had never seen or heard before in her entire lifetime.
"Ah, this title of the light novel is pretty new to me," said Vicki. "I'm very sure I have never read this novel before. Could this be the best-selling light novel ever?"
"W-Well, that's what I've heard from online though," Robert replied nervously.
"Really? I didn't know about that! Anyways, that's the best present you'd ever given me, Robert! Thank you so much! I will read this whenever I have the time!"
"I would've said the same thing to you, too, Vicki!"
Vicki and Robert were kissing each other after they opened up their gifts. They were snuggling each other while they were sitting on the couch and warmed themselves in front of the fireplace. They drank their hot cider and ate some cookies before they called it for a night.
Several days after Toy Day has passed, Isabelle and Tom Nook were setting up the countdown sign for the New Year's Eve. Vicki and Robert had never seen anything like that, not even in StarLily. This countdown sign has a slightest different design and more flashy than the one from StarLily. With the current year coming to the end and the new year was in few hours away, Vicki and Robert needed to come up with the New Year's resolution. But their only problem now was they didn't come with anything at all.
"Well, that's just bummer..." said Vicki mournfully. "We don't even know what our New Year's resolutions are..."
"Yeah, pretty sad if you ask me..." Robert sighed heavily. "What's our New Year's resolutions going to be? Hmm..."
Vicki and Robert were trying to figure out of what their New Year's resolutions were. Until suddenly, someone interrupted their thoughts by burping out loud. They turned around to see of where that came from, and it's none other than the Slapjack brothers.
"Hey guys, do any of you come up with what your New Year's resolutions going to be?" Sammy asked.
"To be honest, we don't really know yet..." Vicki replied. "What about you two?"
"Oh, so do you want to hear out about what our New Year's resolutions going to be?" Jimmy asked, while Vicki and Robert nodded in response. "Okay, we'll tell you!"
"Our New Year's resolution is to make our lives easier without making mistakes!" Sammy explained in triumph.
"Yeah, that is definitely our New Year's resolution!" Jimmy laughed heartily.
Vicki and Robert find that very awkward whether they believed it or not. Their lips were thinned as a line and their eyes were blinking twice while they were glancing at the twins. They slowly turned their heads and faced each other.
"Um, what kind of resolution is that?" Vicki whispered. "It's more like 'practice makes perfect' routine to me."
"Beats me..." Robert whispered back. "But I had to agree with you though. Let's just keep moving while we had a chance."
"Right! Let's go!"
Vicki and Robert quietly walked away from Sammy and Jimmy while they were laughing in triumph. As soon as they stopped laughing, they were about to say something to them. But instead, Vicki and Robert were out of their sight. The twins looked around, then shrugged, and started to walk away as well.
While Isabelle and Tom Nook were still preparing for New Year's Eve, Marnie peeked over the bulletin board and found it very amusing. Magpie peered over her head to see of what was going on. They saw the two animals making preparations for New Year's Eve at the plaza. Suddenly, this gave the sinister actress an idea, the idea that could spoiled the new year.
"Magpie, you stay here while I have to do something real quick," said Marnie, as Magpie flew to the top of the bulleting board.
Marnie quickly disguised herself as a normal human girl. She was approaching to Isabelle and wanted to have a word with her for just a bit. The yellow dog told Tom Nook that she would be back in just a second. So, both of them walked behind the Resident Services. Until suddenly, Marnie sprayed the perfume in front of Isabelle's nose and the dog collapsed to the ground. The evil actress quickly changed herself into Isabelle after she tied the real one up. The imposter came up to Tom Nook and told him that she came back and continued to help him out.
Later in the evening, Vicki and Robert were walking past the plaza and checked the countdown. There were only less than four hours left before counting down to the new year. So, they had time to do something before they gathered around at the plaza with the residents of Triforce. They decided to get some snacks and tea from their houses.
Marnie, who disguised herself as Isabelle, was very impatient because the new year was just in few hours away. She couldn't wait any longer so she had to start up with her plan anyways. She quickly walked up behind the Resident Services and told her lackeys that the time has come.
"But Marnie, I thought you said your plan will start when the new year will come very soon," said Magpie anxiously.
"Ugh, all this waiting for the new year is killing me already!" Marnie complained. "But I don't care about that anymore! The plan will start right here and right now! Got it?"
Magpie sighed. "Fine, have it your way..."
At the front yard, Robert was waiting for Vicki to bring some snacks and tea before they would celebrate the new year. As soon as she left the house with tea and snacks, he suddenly noticed that she was wearing a kimono. While she was serving them together, his face was turning slightly red and became speechless.
"Here you go, some tea and mochi!" said Vicki cheerfully. "Do you want to try some mochi, Robert?"
"Y-Yes, p-please!" Robert replied, as Vicki offered him a mochi. He took a bite and seemed to enjoy it. "Mmm, it's delicious! Love the orange flavor!"
"Glad you like it! I made them myself! To be honest, it's not that easy to make though."
"But at least, you're very good at it though!"
Vicki and Robert ate some mochis and drank some tea before heading back to the plaza. All of the sudden, they heard some loud crackling that was coming from the plaza. They checked it out from above to see of what's going on. They saw the animals at the plaza and started popping with the party poppers, but they suddenly got frozen stiff like a statue. Something that didn't seemed right for Vicki and Robert. It's too early to celebrate the new year because there's only less than two hours away. So, that must've mean it was all the evil's doing. The duo immediately transformed into their heroic versions and jumped into action.
Marnie, in her disguised form, giggled evilly as she waved her paws at the motionless animals, including the Slapjacks. Magpie pecked their heads a couple of times, but no one seemed to move nor say a word out loud. All of the sudden, someone threw the tiara at the imposter dog. So, they looked around of where that came from until they found the dynamic duo.
"Sorry to interrupt your moment here, 'Isabelle!'" said Phantom Angel. "Except you're not the real deal, are you?"
"Show us your true form, you devious imposter!" said Masked Swordmaster in determination.
"What the-h-how can you both tell that I'm the imposter?!" Marnie asked, as she changed back to her true form. "How can you two have the perfect senses than those humans and animals had?"
"Let's just say we have better instincts, woman," Phantom Angel replied.
Marnie grumbled. "Oh sure, why do I bother asking the dynamic rascals?"
"We heard that, and we're not rascals!" Masked Swordmaster explained.
"Just shut it already! Men, attack!"
The Duo of Justice were fighting against Marnie's lackeys before they reached out to her. As soon as they were out cold and beaten, the dynamic duo were finally facing off against the evil actress. But they suddenly noticed that the animals and the Slapjacks were somehow immobilized. They tried to find the pulse from one of them, but no signs of it whatsoever. Then, they waved their hands in front of their faces, but nobody seemed to blink, not even once.
"Nobody seemed to move at all, not even a single wink!" Phantom Angel exclaimed, as she immediately turned to Marnie. "Hey you, what did you do to them?!"
"Let's just say I added a few magic tricks into these party poppers!" Marnie explained. "That's how they got frozen stiff! I was planning to do that when the new year comes, but instead, I had to do it right now..."
"You witch, you're trying to ruin the New Year's Eve, didn't you?!" Masked Swordmaster exclaimed.
"Yes, I'd admit it, you foolish boy! I did plan to ruin the New Year's Eve! So that way, you two won't get in my way!"
While Magpie was recording the video, Marnie summoned her cane and started throwing at the Duo of Justice. They quickly dodged her cane and then, it came right back at her. Phantom Angel took out her microphone and called out her attack.
"Heartbeat echo microphone!" the angel shouted, as the echo of the microphone blasted Marnie and slammed her into one of the trees.
Not only the microphone's echo thrashed Marnie, but it cured the animals and the Slapjacks' movements from the actress's curse. The Duo of Justice were so relieved that everyone, in Triforce, could move again. The evil actress was not very happy about this at all.
"Ugh, so much for my New Year's resolution!" Marnie shouted. "You two may have won that round, but I'll be back next time!"
After Marnie disappeared, everybody gave the Duo of Justice a big cheer and a round of applause. All of the sudden, the dynamic duo heard a loud muffle that came from behind the Resident Services. So, they checked it out and found Isabelle who got tied up this whole time. They immediately set her free, and she thanked them for that.
"I can't thank you enough, Duo of Justice!" said Isabelle, praising the dynamic duo. "You got rid of that pesky woman, who impersonated me, and her friends from ruining the New Year's Eve!"
"Oh, it was nothing really, Isabelle," said Phantom Angel.
"Yeah, we did all we could to protect this island from evil," said Masked Swordmaster.
"That's very true, indeed!" Isabelle nodded, as she was looking at the countdown to see of how much time they had left. "Oh my, it's less than an hour away before the new year strikes! Say, Phantom Angel, can I ask you a favor?"
"Sure, what is it?" Phantom Angel asked curiously.
When Isabelle gave a request to Phantom Angel, the angel started to perform at the plaza. While Masked Swordmaster was playing with the electric guitar, she began to sing her song in front of the crowd. Everybody started to dance while they were listening to her song. As soon as the duo's performance ended, the crowd gave them a round of applause. It's less than a minute for the countdown to the new year. Everyone quickly took out their poppers to prepare for the upcoming new year. Now, it's ten seconds left before the new year would soon be arriving.
Everybody started counting down together and shouted, "...10...9...8...7...6...5...4...3...2...1...HAPPY NEW YEAR!"
The brand new year has finally arrived as the residents started popping their party poppers, and the fireworks began to appear at the night sky. Isabelle took out her smartphone and wanted to take a picture of the Duo of Justice, but they were nowhere in sight. She asked Tom Nook if he knew of where they're going, and he told her that he has no idea of where they were now. She sighed in despair and immediately put her smartphone away. To put that aside, she celebrated the New Year's with Tom Nook who gave her the sparkling cider. They gently tapped the glasses and drank up all the cider together.
At the opposite side of the island, the Duo of Justice sat down at the edge of the hill. They were watching the fireworks on New Year's Eve together. When they finally realized what their New Year's resolutions were, they both agreed that their resolutions were to protect the people and animals of this island from evil. Finally, they kissed each other as the fireworks appeared a lot more in the sky than the ones after everybody counted down to the new year.
