The fresh memory of Kyo's ashen face and fear-filled eyes lingered in Tohru's mind even after the visit. The entire time she bid Kyo and Hatori goodbye, it replayed over and over again in her mind. The terror encompassing her friend when he had said, "I need it now," chilled the tips of Tohru's bones.
Without warning, her feet came to an abrupt stop. With a deep breath, she planted her fist into the palm of her hand, eyes gleaming with determination. "I'll find your bracelet, Kyo-kun!" she promised herself. "I will!"
Just then, almost as if in response, a disembodied voice floated around her. "Psssst," it whispered.
The sound of the voice glued her feet to the floor and a shiver ran along her spine. Desperately darting her eyes along the corridor only worsened her fear. She stood entirely alone within the halls of Kaibara. Working up all her courage, she asked, "G-Ghost-san?!"
Just before she had another fainting spell, an older girl glided around one of the many pillars in Kaibara. "Boo," the girl giggled, winking at Tohru, whilst somehow making sticking her tongue out look cute.
"Ahh, Kagura-chan!" Tohru sighed with repief. She released the breath she didn't know she was holding. A soft blush crept across her cheeks "l-I thought maybe you were a-"
"Rival? Of course I am. I'm only doing this for him, you know." Kagura's lower lip pouted out and her arms folded neatly against her chest.
"Umm, you mean Kyo-kun?" Tohru asked.
A pained expression greeted her. Obviously, Kagura had taken some offense to her question. "Who else could I mean? We are dating, you know!" Kagura sucked in a breath and with closed eyes, pinched her forehead. "Tohru, if we ever want to get anything done, we're going to have to put our rivalry aside for now, but that doesn't mean I'll let you steal him away from me!"
Tohru's head tilted to the side with furrowed eyebrows. "Umm, okay.."
For a moment, silence filled the air and a thick tension replaced their words. Kagura chewed the lip gloss off her bottom lip. "I... saw Kyo-kun's bracelet," she confessed.
Tohru's eyes widened. "Eh?! You did?! Where?!"
Kagura's cheeks puffed up with air as though preparing her for a big reveal. "I... can't tell you.."
Tohru felt as though a weight had been dropped on her chest. Her hands clasped the older girl's shoulders and their eyes met. "Kagura-chan! You love Kyo-kun, right? He's really suffering right now. He really doesn't look well and.. and he's scared!" Glossy tears glazed Tohru's eyes, threatening to spill out at any moment. "If there's anything we can do to help him, we have to try it, Kagura-chan, so please... tell me where it is."
The Slytherin bowed her head, bangs covering her eyes. Tohru saw the girl swallow before she peered up at Tohru, tears welling in her eyes, too. "You're right, Tohru! We have to help my love!" she sobbed, pulling Tohru into one of her suffocating bear-hugs.
Thankfully, Kagura let go before Tohru once again lost consciousness. "Thank you, Kagura-chan.. Can you remember where you saw it?"
"Well," she began, "The last few days, I couldn't find my Kyo-kun anywhere and I was worried sick! I'm sure you've noticed he has that dashing, almost infuriating defiant streak that makes him do things like not answer my calls for months on end!" Tohru's gaze couldn't help but fall on Kagura's clenched fists and tightening jaw.
"Oh, there I go getting myself worked up again!" she chuckled, waving a hand nonchalantly. "Anyway, when we were in middle school, that kind of behavior got him sent to the Headmaster's office allllll the time, so I thought maybe he'd be there, but..."
"But you found the bracelet instead," Tohru guessed.
Kagura hesitantly nodded. There was another moment of silence, before Kagura broke it. "Look, I don't know what Akito wants with that bracelet, but whatever he's planning can't be good. You have to get it for Kyo-kun's sake!" This time it was Kagura's turn to clamp her hands on Tohru's shoulder. Whether it was for revenge or simply an involuntary action, Kagura shook Tohru's shoulders. "But Akito's a very dangerous person with a serious God-complex, so umm, however you plan to get it, just promise me you'll be careful!"
Tohru nodded through a wince at Kagura's impossible grip, which brought a soft smile to Kagura's lips. The older girl turned to head back to the Slytherin dorm, but stopped in her tracks. "Oh, and my other advice to you?" She looked Tohru dead in the eye and said, "Don't get caught."
