Sailor was in school, on the phone with Fred an hour after it happened. She was still there, talking on the phone with Fred. "Yes, yes, I understand". Sailor said. "She is so beautiful". Fred said, gently. His vocal register sounded a bit sultry, and low. Perhaps it was all the cigarettes he'd been smoking.
"She is so beautiful, and amazing, and wonderful". "she's healthy, and prime". "You should come see her when you have the chance". "I can come right now". Sailor said. "I have an early dismissal pass". "Wonderful". Fred said, gently. "I'll call Wilma's mother, and she'll come get you".
"Ok". Sailor said.
Sailor hung up the payphone, telephone, in the school library, sitting down to look over her homework, and possibly read her book until she was called down to the office.
Eventually, she heard her name over the intercom, and went downstairs to the main office. Pearl was waiting for her by the door. "Hi". Sailor said, coming over. "Hello, sweetie". Pearl said, kindly. "How are you, how was your day?". "It was good". Sailor said. "I'm not sure if you heard, but, Wilma just had her baby". Pearl said, gently. "She did?". Sailor asked. "She did, indeed". "Pebbles is beautiful". "Looks just like her mother". Pearl said, gently.
Sailor felt happy now. She felt as if something truly joyous had just happened. Wilma got a new addition to her family. This was a joyous moment to be celebrated. Pearl, and Sailor drove to the hospital, Sailor, excited to meet Pebbles.
They got to the hospital, Sailor going into the hospital room where Wilma and Fred were. She looked down at Pebbles, little Pebbles, who looked so cute.
"she's amazing". Sailor said, looking down at her goddaughter. "She is, truly". Wilma said, gently. "I'm so blessed to have her in my life". "She is wonderful".
"I'm really happy for you". Sailor said. "Thank you, dear". Wilma said, gently. "would you like to hold her?". "sure". Sailor said. Sailor held Pebbles, feeling the moment of happiness. This was family. This was love. All of Sailor's sadness, all of her fears disappeared. She felt amazed, and blessed. Sailor looked at Pebbles, feeling the feeling of love, of true family.
It was five years later, as an older Sailor played with Pebbles in the backyard. Pebbles was in training pants, walking around, picking up a ladybug. Sailor truly felt blessed to have Pebbles. Sailor was Pebbles' mentor, friend, teacher, and guide. They grew up together, essentially, as Sailor was a good role model for Pebbles.
There was much love, much family, and much health to be considered, as Sailor felt proud. Sailor had a family she could rely on, with Wilma and Fred. Sailor had someone she could look to, in times of despair, or trouble. Pebbles had a mentor, guide, and friend in Sailor. They were a family. A nice little family. Sailor had people to lean on, people to rely on. She had a family at least. Everyone needs someone. Everyone needs love at some point, right? Either way, everyone thrived, and went on to live happily ever after.
The End
