History: After being born from his dying mother on Friday the 13th, it was clear from the beginning that Ares Costello was going to be a twisted individual. His father was absent from his life, and Ares was confined to an orphanage. The people in charge of the orphanage were abusive, and Ares quickly grew to realize them. Even the other kids thought he was an easy target. The frequent bullying, beating, and...other things left Ares with a new mentality: show no weakness, no matter what happens to you. Ares would escape the orphanage at age 12, where he took to the streets. It was there where he learned the whereabouts of his father, the old man was filthy rich and he was living his best life while Ares rotted away in the alleyways. Needless to say, Ares was pissed. After proving his relation to his father, he would be taken into the old man's custody, although Ares soon took his father's life, his first of many kills. After inheriting his father's fortune, he went in search of training to become an extremely skilled fighter. Returning years later, he would rally a ragtag group of mercenaries to form the Band of the Hawk, a name that Ares had found in one of his father's books that he had taken a liking to. His biggest mistake was abducting the baby Gus, who would later take his life 14 years later. Somehow, Ares has returned to life through the experiments conducted by his employer, Ragyo Kiryuin, and he now exists as a zombie of sorts.
Personality: While Ares certainly had a tragic backstory, his actions are not to be excused. His time in the orphanage and the streets gave him a "kill or be killed" mentality. Ares doesn't know the meaning of companionship, and only views others as mere objects that can be used as pawns, or can be destroyed. This is most likely due to the fact that Ares was never shown any love in his life. The only person that Ares truly acknowledges is Gus, as his death at the hands of the Black Swordsman was a major embarrassment, thus he views Gus as his greatest enemy. Ares has little to no regard for human life, he would even casually put his own men in danger to solve a problem, with no thoughts towards their safety. While he was initially overconfident and brash, he has learned from his death and he is now much more subtle and calculating. He is also unable to feel gratitude, as despite Ragyo's resurrecting him, he plans to betray her and take power for himself.
Relationships:
Gustov Zucco: While he initially used Gus as a sheep meant for slaughter, he began to despise Gus following his death. He wants to kill Gus in extremely gruesome ways, but he also acknowledges that Gus is a worthy opponent. There is going to be another clash between these two, whether someone will die...you'll have to find out. If Gus is a nicer Guts, Ares is an even worse Griffith.
Ryuko Matoi: While he has nothing against Ryuko, he was the one who put a price on her head, as it was a means to lure Gus to Honoujji Academy. However, after seeing how well she and Gus are getting along, she might just have a bigger target on her back.
Satsuki Kiryuin: Ares has a bit of a thing for her. This is obviously not reciprocated, both because he is an older man, and that he is a literal rotting corpse. He is actually aware that Satsuki is planning to betray Ragyo, he chooses not to tell her mother due to his own plan to betray her. However, Ares' crush on Satsuki is purely material, he doesn't value her as a person. Satsuki is revolted by him, more so for his personality, and his disregard for human life.
