After Hank's surgery, Connor came out wearing his scrubs. Everyone looked at him. Erin went to him with a worried look, she was shaking.
"How is he?" Erin asked.
"Hank⦠I expect he should make a full recovery but he's gonna have a long road ahead of him. The bullet in his shoulder was lodged in pretty deep but we got it. As for the two in his abdomen, one bullet tore his spleen and we had to remove it. As we removed the spleen he started bleeding uncontrollably for a bit but we controlled the bleeding. The second bullet, thankfully it didn't hit anything major"
"Can we see him? Can Dani see him?"
"Two at a time, if you wanna bring Dani back you may"
The female detective had gone over to Alvin and saw Dani clinging to him, she had bent down to the young girl's level. "Dani, sweetie you wanna go see your dad?"
Shooting her head up the six-year-old nodded eagerly, the detective stayed bent down to her level. "Sweetie, when we go back there it may look scary but I promise he's gonna be just fine. My friend, Connor fixed him up. He's gonna have lots of band aids to cover all his owies"
Dani had nodded understanding, getting back to her full height Erin held her hand out to the young girl as they walked back there.
When they got to the room Dani froze for a moment, she was scared. Erin saw the look in her eyes. "What's wrong honey?"
"I'm scared" The young girl whimpered.
"It's ok, he could just be asleep. We don't have to stay long if you don't want to"
"Is daddy gonna be mad?"
"Of course not, I promise"
After taking a few minutes Dani followed the female detective in the room. Hank was awake, his shoulder was bandaged heavily as was his midsection and abdomen area. Looking over he saw the two girls, he smiled big when he saw his little girl. He opened his good arm for her, taking that as her cue the little girl ran over to him Erin had helped her up onto the bed putting Dani on his good side. The little girl hugged him tightly and cried into his shoulder. Hearing his baby girl cry Hank felt his heart break he used his good hand and rubbed soothing circles on her back.
"Shh it's ok baby, I'm here. Daddy's right here. I got you" He soothed her.
"A-a-are you gonna be ok?" Dani hiccuped.
"I'm gonna be just fine"
Just being able to hold his little girl was everything, she may not have been biologically his but she was every bit his. He failed Justin, he lost Olive and Daniel, he wouldn't fail or lose Dani too. If anything she was the only thing keeping him together. He swore he'd do right by her. He made a vow to his son and Serena that he'd raise Dani and keep her safe. Nobody would hurt his little girl. Not even Marco.
Dani had fallen asleep in his side and he held her protectively. Hank glanced to see his surrogate daughter. "How are you doing?"
She smiled. "Aren't I supposed to be asking you that? After all you were the one who was shot three times"
"I'll bounce back. I always do. Once I'm out of here were gonna hunt that bastard down"
"Hank no. You'll need to be resting, healing and recovering. Let us handle him"
"Not happening Erin"
"You can't do anything with a bum shoulder not to mention you were shot in the stomach twice. You need to rest"
Normally Hank wouldn't give up so easily but he wasn't in a mood to fight. He had more important matters to worry about. "Fine. Until Marco is caught I want a detail with Dani at all times"
"Already done. Jay and I have the first shift. She'll rotate with all of us until you're out of here"
"Thank you. Can you send Jay in?"
"Of course. Am I leaving Dani?"
"Yeah, I just wanna hold her right now"
She nodded and had gone to get her partner, the whole time Hank just held his princess with his good arm. Jay was sipping some coffee and talking to his brother when Erin went to him, Will saw Erin going to them and excused himself. The young detective looked to see her.
"Hey, how is he?" Jay asked.
"Good. He's awake, stable, alert, and stubborn as hell" Erin answered.
"Sounds like someone else I know" He let out a chuckle.
The female detective had let out a chuckle of her own. "Gee thanks. Hank's asking to see you. I told him were first with watching Dani"
Jay nodded and went back to see his boss. Hank was just holding and rocking his little girl, Erin had very softly knocked having the older man look over. "Come in"
The partners had entered the room, Jay stood there with a straight face, his hands behind his back. "You asked to see me Sarge"
"I did. Please when you're watching Dani, she goes nowhere by herself, you and Lindsay go with her everywhere. Don't let her out of your sights"
"Copy that Sarge"
"You can come get her"
Walking over the young detective very carefully had picked up the six-year-old. The young girl very slightly stirred. "Hmm"
"Shh it's alright munchkin, it's Jay" Jay soothed her.
She went right back to sleep, Hank gave his detective a sharp look. "Watch and protect her Halstead"
"I will Sarge"
"We won't let anything happen to her, Hank" Erin assured her father figure.
"I trust you both," He told them.
They walked out and the others went to see him, Antonio and Alvin were the last two. Hank looked to his senior detective and best friend. "I want Dani under tight protection until Marco is caught"
"Consider it done. Halstead and Lindsay have first shift followed by Ruzek and Atwater"
Little did they know, Marco had paid someone to go to the hospital to track Dani and Hank down. After sneaking a peek at some files the guy had found Hank's room. He was outside listening as he was pushing a cart.
"We'll take care of Dani, Hank, you just focus on getting rest" Alvin told him.
"I'll try, I've never been a good patient" The older Sergeant jokes.
"Have any of us ever been a good patient?" Antonio asked, chuckling.
"I wanna be updated and kept in the loop Antonio"
"Hank-"
"Antonio. I am to be kept in the loop at all times"
"There's no talking you out of this, is there?"
"Not a chance"
"Alright I will keep you updated and in the loop at all times"
"It's all I ask"
"We'll leave you to rest now," Alvin said.
The guy listening had taken off before he was caught, he had dipped into a hallway and quickly pulled the nursing clothes off. He ran down all the stairs almost tripping. Once he got to the garage he ran to his car, he opened the door and rushed inside grabbing his phone and he hit a number on the speed dial.
"Marco, I know where the kid is gonna be and I know where Voight is"
Meanwhile
Erin was setting up the booster seat for Dani in hers and Jay's car while her partner had the six-year-old. He was rocking her to keep her asleep. Looking over he saw his partner almost finished.
"We good to go?" Jay asked.
"Just about. We should stop and get her some food" Erin answered.
"We'll make a couple stops and get her some clothes, toys, food, and whatever else she'll need"
"Sounds good partner. Her seat is all set up. Pass her over and I'll strap her in"
Walking around Jay passed the sleeping six year old to Erin, the female detective took the young girl and put her in the booster seat strapping her in. The two just stood guard the whole time, both on high alert nobody would hurt Dani.
"Let's go"
Soon the two had left, the guy, Alex, had started to follow them. He had made sure to keep a safe distance back.
Back at the hospital, Will had found the scrubs and frowned. Putting some gloves on he picked them up, he had gone to go find his brother or his team. He had found them in the waiting area. He went over to them.
"Hey guys, I found this in the staircase," Will says, holding up the scrubs.
They all had frowned. What the hell? Something had popped into Antonio's head.
"We need to see the security footage of Hank's room, I got a bad feeling about something" Antonio spoke.
Will had taken him to the security room and began pulling the footage from around Hank's room. Antonio watching it carefully then he saw something. "Hold it"
The guard freeze framed it and enhanced it, it showed Marco's guy, Alex outside the room listening. His eyes had gone wide. How the hell could they be so stupid? They had pretty much given away where Dani was and who'd she be with.
Pulling out his radio he ran out. "Burgess, I need you and Roman to Hank's room now" He called through the radio.
The two patrol officers didn't say anything except run to Hank's room. Antonio then called back through it to the remaining members of his team. "Kevin, Adam, I need you to go find Jay and Erin. They've been outed"
As quickly as they could the two hightailed out of there while Antonio and Alvin had also run to Hank's room. When they got there Burgess and Roman were talking to the staff as the room was sealed off. No. They rushed over.
"Kim, what the hell is going on?" Antonio asked.
The female patrol officer looked at him. "Hank's missing"
Adam was trying to call Jay or Erin but they weren't getting through. "Dammit!"
Kevin was speeding through the streets with the lights flashing, the sirens blaring loudly. He quickly glanced at his partner. "Keep trying man. I know you can do it"
"I'm gonna keep trying until one of them answers" He tried Erin again. "Pick up dammit"
While
Erin, Jay, and Dani had arrived at one of the CPD safe houses, little did they know Alex was still right behind them. Jay had quickly taken the six-year-old in while Erin grabbed the stuff. Her phone buzzing, she turned the ringer off so Dani could sleep. After grabbing a bag she picked up her phone that was ringing.
"Lindsay" She answered.
"Lindsay, it's Adam. Listen to me you and Jay have been outed" Adam came on urgently.
"Wha-" Before she could finish responding Alex had knocked her out with a crowbar.
Erin's phone fell next to her with Adam screaming into the phone, Alex had stomped on it and he went inside. Jay had gotten Adam's messages after getting Dani settled. He sent them a quick message of where they were.
He had hid the young girl and went down cautiously, his gun in front of him. Jay didn't see his partner. Before he knew it Alex was in front of him swinging the crowbar, Alex had nearly hit the young detective's hand almost possibly breaking it.
Alex swung the crowbar again near Jay's head and he quickly dodged it as the weapon hit the wall and put a hole in it. It had gotten stuck and Jay had taken this chance to grab his wrist and twisted and kicked him in the knee making him drop to the ground. Once on the ground Alex had tried to trip up Jay, but the detective had stomped on his hand.
The young guy had screamed loudly feeling the bones in his hands being shattered. Alex had pulled a knife out of his pocket with his good hand. Immediately Jay kicked it away and Alex grabbed his ankle with his good hand yanking him making him fall backwards.
Adam and Kevin arrived, they saw Erin on the ground as she began stirring. Adam rushed to help her while Kevin ran inside.
"You good Erin?" Adam asked.
"Besides the killer headache, I'm fine. Go help inside" Erin groaned rubbing her head.
He then ran inside, Kevin was helping Jay get Alex on his stomach trying to cuff him. The two managed to finally wrestle Alex and cuff him.
"You guys got him?" Adam asked his friends.
"Yeah" Kevin yanked him up hard. "He's got some explaining to do"
"I just came for the kid" Alex spat.
"News flash bro. You ain't getting her and neither is Marco" Adam said sharply.
"Even if we don't get her now we will. We already got a back up plan" He grinned evilly.
"What the hell is that supposed to mean" Jay spoke this time.
"No english"
"Take his ass outside" Jay looked at his other two partners.
Kevin dragged him out as he dragged him out, Erin came back in still rubbing her head. Jay went over to her.
"Are you alright?" He asked worried.
"I'm fine Jay. I got a killer headache but I'm fine". She answers. "Where's Dani?"
"I hid her when I finally got Adam's messages. He said we had been outed. I hid Dani upstairs and told her not to come out until one of us went to get her"
"Thank god. So he was following us and we didn't know?"
"Apparently he kept a good distance"
"As long as Dani's safe that's all that matters"
Adam had taken a call. He went pale, his heart skipped a beat. He then hung up and faced the two partners. Immediately seeing his face they knew something was wrong.
"Ruzek, what is it? What's wrong" Jay said, a bit worried.
"Voight's missing," He answered.
Right after that gun shots started ringing out.
Meanwhile
Marco had two more people go to the hospital and dress as a doctor and nurse, they had given Hank a sedative to knock him out. They had taken him out in the hospital bed and loaded him into a van that looked like an ambulance.
They had taken off to one of Marco's houses, it was starting to pour down rain. The sky was darkening as low rumbles of thunder was heard and bright flashes of purple lightning lit up the sky.
Once they arrived they carried Hank inside and took him to the basement, They tied him up. Marco watched on with an evil grin.
An hour or so later Hank was waking up, he groaned as he looked around. His vision was blurry; he didn't know where he was. As he tried to move he realized he couldn't he was also met with pain from his shoulder and his abdomen area.
"I wouldn't move if I were you Sergeant" Came Marco's voice. "There's no getting out of this and by the time your team finds you. Well you'll be dead and me. I'll have my little Dani and we'll be long gone"
"You're crazy if you think my team won't' protect Dani from the likes of you. Do whatever you want to me. But I'll be damned if you touch that little girl again. Over my cold dead body"
"That can very easily be arranged" He pulled a gun out and aimed it at Hank. he had aimed it right at Hank's forehead for a clean shot. "Shall we test that theory"
