Chapter Eight: A New Soul Born Into the World
Gilbert walked around the streets of the city around his new school. There were tall buildings with thin layers of snow on their ledges and hundreds of people bustling around the shops.
The young man shivered slightly, as he was a bit "under the weather" as they would say. He saw a bookstore on the left-hand side of him and decided to take a look inside for any books involving medical principles.
A tiny gold bell rang as he pushed the wooden door open. There were bookshelves all over the place, each part of a different category. Several candles also hung from the walls and the ceiling. Gilbert had never seen a place so entrancing.
Anne would have loved it here. She would come here every day, Gilbert thought to himself as he walked around, trying to find books about medicine.
"Can I help you?" a voice asked behind him. The brunette turned around and saw one of the most beautiful girls he had ever seen in his life, apart from Anne, who would always be the most beautiful girl in the world.
The young woman was around his age, with long straight black hair and large brown eyes. "Hello, my name is Christine Stewart," she said, smiling so her extremely white teeth were revealed. "Are you the Gilbert Blythe who just started attending U of T?"
"Uh, yes," Gilbert replied, puzzled about how she knew that he was going to this new school. "How did you know?"
"Oh, my apologies," Christine said. "I'm one of the students there who also like to study medicine. The faculty told our class that you were attending."
"But how did you know that it was me?" Gilbert pressed.
"Henry told me that you were his roommate," Christine informed him. "And I saw you both in your dormitory so I assumed that you were him."
Gilbert nodded. "Thank you for clarifying," he replied, chuckling slightly.
"No problem," Christine said. "What books are you looking for? I'm sure I can help you find them."
"You work here?" Gilbert asked.
"I do work here when I have time on my hands because sometimes I can be very busy," she told him.
"Ah. Well, could you help me find some textbooks on medicine?" Gilbert asked. "I wanted to get a head start before school begins."
"I know just where they are. Follow me."
. . .
Hey guys! Sorry, this chapter is very short, but apparently, I got a long time assignment to work on so this was all I could do!
The next time I will write is probably when Winter Break comes because all of my teachers are going to throw as much homework at me as possible in those last three weeks.
I hope you enjoyed this chapter, and make sure to tell your friends and family to R&R and follow and favorite, please! I'm a young writer and I need all the support and motivation I can get!
