Chapter 10
Callie was sitting on the sofa with Frank. Fenton and Joe came inside. "Mr. Hardy why is this happening to me?"
Fenton sat on the coffee table so that he was eye to eye with her. This was something you normally wouldn't do in Laura Hardy's presence but she was working right now. "Sweetie we will keep you safe I promise."
"I want my dad to leave me alone."
The doorbell rang. Fenton got up with his gun. "Stay here. Joe check the back door."
Fenton went to the door and opened it a sliver. He saw a pretty blond woman who looked a lot like Ellen Shaw only younger and a man with silver hair. Fenton asked. "May I help you?"
"I'm Emma Beaudry, Callie's Aunt this is Benjamin Stokes trustee of Ellen Beaudry Shaw's trust which is now Callie's. He's here to give her access. And I'm here to see my niece. I haven't heard from her since the night Ellen died."
Fenton nodded. "I need to see your ID's. We've just had two different kidnapping attempts on Callie."
"Oh my god!" Emma pulled her ID out with shaking hands. "Is she alright?"
Ben patted her arm. "I'm sure she is Emma. Mr. Hardy looks very capable of protecting her. I can authorize a payment to your agency for her safety. You've already saved her life with your protection."
"It's not necessary." Fenton said.
Emma said. "Yes it is! Take it from mine Ben."
"Your wish is my command." Ben said and presented his own ID.
Fenton let them inside. "She's in the den."
Emma said. "What a lovely home!"
Fenon smiled. "Thank you."
Callie came into the hall. "Aunt Emma!" She hugged her aunt tightly.
"Sweetheart. I've been so worried."
"I'm so glad you're here." Callie said, her eyes welling up with tears.
"I wouldn't be anywhere else. Hi Frank! Good to see you again."
"Likewise Ms. Beaudry."
"Callie, this is Benjamin Stokes, trustee of your trust. He's here for you to sign some paperwork and to give you funds."
Benjamin was writing a check. "This is to Hardy and Radley investigations for services already rendered and future protection of Miss. Shaw."
Fenton took the check and his eyes widened. "This is fifty times what I normally charge."
Emma was still hugging Callie. "I appreciate what you've done for my niece. Please accept."
Fenton put the check in his pocket. "Would you guys like to go to the conference room down stairs? It will be more comfortable."
Emma smiled. "Perfect."
Sam Radley was in the reception area talking to his wife. "Ah Fenton. I just closed the Brinkman case."
"Do me a favor and get this deposited in our business account." He handed the check to him.
Sam's eyes popped out. "Sure."
Fenton took Callie, Frank, Emma, and Mr. Stokes to the conference room. They sat down. He pulled out papers.
"Callie before you sign these you may want someone to read the documents."
Callie pulled out her phone. "Joy, it's Callie? Is your father in court today? He's at his office. May I get his number, his private one. Thanks." She dialed the number and Joy's father answered the phone on the first ring.
"Jonathan Camden esquire."
"Mr. Camden, this is Callie Shaw. Do you have any appointments today?"
"I don't, I was catching up on some paperwork. Do you need something?"
"You're a finance attorney and I need someone to read over my trust paperwork. Could I retain your services? My mom's trustee just got here and has it. I know it's last minute."
"I can come. Are you at the Hardy's?"
"Yes, in the conference room of Hardy and Radley Investigations."
"I'll be there in ten minutes."
Emma was holding Callie's hand. "Remember the trip you, your mother, and I took to Bora Bora?"
Callie sighed. "Yes it was so peaceful. You drank so many Mai Tais you could barely walk back to the bungalow."
Emma pulled out a framed picture from her purse. "I found this picture of the three of us."
Frank looked over Callie's shoulder. Emma and Ellen were wearing matching black swimsuits. Callie was wearing a black bikini, her long hair wet from the tropical waters. They had smiling faces. "What a great picture!"
"I remember when this was taken. The bartender at the bar took it. I didn't realize he got a full body shot."
Frank said. "What's wrong with that you all look great."
Callie grumbled. "Not for much longer I won't."
Emma frowned. "Why would you say that dear? You're beautiful."
Callie sighed and told her aunt everything. When she was done her Aunt was furious. "That vicious man and that vicious bitch!. Then she turned to Frank. "Thank you for being so supportive and loving my niece.."
Jonathan Camden was prompt. Ethel had brought in refreshments for them at Fenton's request. Callie dove right into the red grapes. Fenton chuckled cravings are already starting.
"Callie I brought a contract for my services."
Callie looked at the contract and signed it without hesitation. She then asked for a check for his retainer. Which Benjamin Stokes happily gave."
Jonathan read over the documents. Benjamin said. "You know if you want to assign a new trustee you may do so. It would be easier for you to have a trustee on the east coast. Mr. Camden has a good reputation and he was one of the lawyers I was going to recommend. I'm retired except for these two accounts."
Jonathan's eyes shined. "I'd be happy too. I've known Callie for years. She cheers with my daughter."
"I've prepared a second set of paper work, with you as trustee. I'll submit it to the court tomorrow. The bank is Bank of America."
"Good." Jonathan said. "My office is above a BOA branch."
They began to sign the paperwork. It took two hours. Callie was very pleased with everything. She asked for him to get his trustee salary in advance. Which was considerable but Callie figured she could afford it. He would get a two million dollar advance, followed by eight hundred thousand a year thereafter.
"Here is a bank card with your name on it. It has five million on it. It's going to take ninety days for the trust to be switched over."
"Understood. Thank you." Callie said.
Jonathan stood up. "Thank you for allowing me to be your trustee Callie. I'm honored."
"We need to talk about beneficiaries." Callie said.
"Of course, that is very wise. Your father isn't to be included. I take it." Jonathan said.
"Correct. This isn't common knowledge yet but I'm pregnant, if something happens to me Frank will need access to the money to care for our child."
"Of course."
"I also want to pay for my brothers college and Joe's college as well."
"We have a fund for Joe's college, plus this money the agency just received." Fenton started.
Callie shook her head. "I know but I still want to. You have helped me so much and I love your whole family. I want you and Laura to go on a nice vacation with that money in the account for Joe's college." She didn't mention that she was planning on paying off their mortgage.
Fenton chuckled. "Laura's always wanted to go to Europe."
"Then your birthday present to her is that trip to Europe."
"We can work on all of that for sure. Have a good evening." Jonathan Camden and Benjamin Stokes left.
Fenton said. "Emma you're welcome to stay with us for a few days. I know you and Callie need to make her funeral arrangements."
"Thank you Fenton. I can bunk with Callie."
Callie and Frank took the refreshments upstairs. Callie indulged in more red grapes. "Oh boy, I really like these grapes."
Frank pulled her into his arms and kissed her. "Well a little somebody might like them too."
"I think you're right."
Fenton came up from the office. "I just scanned Callie's car. It had a tracking device that I did not put on the car on it."
Callie rolled her eyes. "Mr. Hardy could we go for a drive. I'd like to talk to Frank."
"Of course you can. I have a tracker on the car. I'm going to follow at a distance to make sure you're safe."
Frank kissed her cheek from behind. "We can live with that."
