Merry Christmas everyone! Now I know that this Christmas is going to be a bit difficult, giving the current environment, but we will still celebrate together the best we could. And to help honor such a festive occasion, I have a very special holiday episode on the Teen Titans: Phosphophylitte Chronicles.
Before I start, let me check how the last chapter held up. So far, I can see that not much has changed. Only got one review and almost fifty hits. Kind of slow when you think about it. but I'm hoping that this holiday special will make this special, especially I have to update all three chapters in one go. It might be difficult, but I love a challenge.
Now as you know, Phos isn't familiar about the holidays, especially Christmas. The same can be said with Starfire as she is new to a large amount of Earth customs. So it got me thinking, why not have them both understand the meaning of Christmas. After all, it will have their friendship tested in the time of season. So this is what the episode is all about. Where Star and Phos try to understand the meaning of Christmas. But a cocky villain would come in and destroy the festivities. Will they be able to stop it and save Christmas? Let's read and see.
Chapter Notes
Now just like the other episodes, this would take place in an episode that isn't Titans related. Instead it will take place in the Batman: The Brave and Bold episode 'Invasion of the Secret Santas'. Now I will be changing the episode name and have the Titans involved instead of Batman, but the rest will be still the same, somewhat. Plus it is fitting to have a Christmas episode for Christmas. Though, I don't know if I would be able to make it in time, considering how hectic everything is now a days. But at least I can try. So here's hoping things don't go downhill from there.
Disclaimer: I don't own the Teen Titans or Land of the Lustrous
Episode Eight: Phosphophylitte Christmas (Part 1)
In the downtown area of Jump City, the streets were buzzing and the flurries were falling. It could only mean one thing. It's Christmas time! Or Christmas Eve no less. All around the shops, everyone was busy gathering all the last minute gifts for their family and friends. All around, there were posters promoting a brand new toy that was selling out fast called the Presto Playpal for the kids. And in the center of it, a huge Christmas tree was at the center square with a sleigh in front for a certain Clause to come and spread holiday cheer. Deep in the downtown area, two Titans were walking down, not worrying about the cold like the others. They were Phosphophyllite and Starfire. They are on their way to the library for more research for Phos's encyclopedia, not seeing the festivities around them. Phos turned to Star and thanked her for the help.
Phos: "Thanks for assisting me on my research, Starfire. I wish to asked the others for help, but they were a bit busy on patrols."
The Tamaranean turned to her and responded in kindly.
Starfire: "Oh no, don't be. I was only doing my best in helping you with your work. So tell me, what is it you wish to look into?"
Phos: "Geography. I've been hearing about something called the Alps and would wish to look into it's history and height of it. That and the news of people climbing it as a way of success. It's strange these humans willing to risk their livelihoods over such bizarre goals, wouldn't you agree?"
Star chuckled and agreed with the gem there.
Starfire: "Perhaps, but at least they are willing to prove how brave they are when climbing high up."
Just as they were enjoying their time together, they soon started to hear the sound of a horn honking and screeching tires. The two turned to the direction of those sounds and notice a truck careening out of control that was carrying the next shipment of Playpal action figures and was loosing traction from the snow. The driver was trying to stop it, but the breaks weren't working and honking the horn is the only option in getting out of it. Many cars started to drive away to safety as the truck barely missed them. But it soon hit the sidewalk and went into the park, at the very direction two kids were playing in the snow. Seeing this, the two decided to stop it from smashing into them.
Phos: "Looks like the research will have to wait. Let's go Star!"
She soon melted their heels and shot up to get a good jumping distance to reach the truck in time.
Starfire: "Agreed!"
Star soon flew ahead to focus on saving the children. The truck started to slip around and was making the B line towards the kids. Both of them didn't know it until the horn was blaring. They stopped playing and turned to see the truck, screaming for their lives. But before it would run over them, Starfire swooped in and rescued the kids by picking them up and taking them away from danger. Phos soon landed with their gold alloy cushioning them and kneed down to look at the truck. Stretching their arms, they created a huge cushion and the vehicle softly crashes into it, stopping it entirely. Reverting their arms back, they checked on the driver to see if he's all right.
Phos: "Everything okay. You hurt?"
The driver turned to the gem and was glad that he was saved.
"I'm good. Thanks for stopping my truck. I swear, snow around here is slippery this time of year. Now I have to find a way in delivering all these Presto action figures for last minute Christmas shopping."
Phos heard that word and blinked a couple of times, trying to reiterate the word he said.
Phos: "Christ…mas…?"
Meanwhile, Starfire was carrying the two kids in each arm and floated down to the parents who were worried sick about what happened, but relieved that their children are safe. Softly landing on the ground, she place the two children to the snowy path and the two ran up to their parents.
"Mommy!"
"Daddy!"
Both parents bend down and grab their kids, picking up for a hug while Phos approached the Tamaranean, still confused about what they heard.
Starfire: "As parents, it is your responsibility in keeping your children safe. So please make sure they play somewhere where there are no trucks sliding through parks."
The father soon turned to the two and thanked them for saving their kids.
"Thank you so much, Starfire, Phos. Your heroics have certainly give us hope for a bright Christmas tomorrow."
The two Titans looked to each other and where a bit puzzled by that word. That's when Starfire asked about what he said.
Starfire: "Your Earthly ways are quite strange to me and my friend. Please, tell us, what is this…Christmas you speak of."
It was then that the daughter answered the two straight away on what Christmas is about.
"Christmas is about spending time with your family and having fun. There's decorating the tree, opening presents, signing carols."
But the mother decided to give a better meaning then that.
"What my daughter is trying to say is that this holiday fill us with Christmas spirit."
Phos blinked and was even more stumped.
Phos: "Christmas…spirit? What exactly is that? Some new type of Lunarian?"
The son soon explained that in a bit of a childish way.
"No, silly. It's that warm tingly feeling you get inside because it's the bestest time of the year!"
Phos placed their hand on their chest and didn't feel anything. Only cold rock.
Phos: "Sorry… But I don't have that warm tingly feeling in my body."
The daughter soon shrugged it off and joked about it.
"Of course not, Phos. You're just a piece of rock after all."
The group soon laughed it up as the two were still bewildered at this Christmas. Phos especially, considering that they were somewhat hurt of that joke.
A few minutes later, the two made it to the library as they were sitting on opposite ends of the long table. But they weren't studying at all. Instead, they were thinking about what the family said.
Starfire: "This…Christmas seems to be a really interesting day. I have never heard of a holiday like this in my home planet. What do you think, Phos."
She looked to the gem wanting an answer from them. But they weren't listening, instead they were thinking about what they said about the Christmas Spirit, and how it makes you feel warm inside. Something they never had. Star blinked and realized that they weren't listening. So she tries again.
Starfire: "Phos? Are you all right?"
The gem heard their name and turned to see Star looking worried.
Phos: "Oh! Sorry, Starfire. Didn't mean to shut you out. I was just thinking about what they said to me."
Star remembered that and understood where they were going with it.
Starfire: "My apologize. Do not get worked up over what they said. They did not mean to insult you."
Phos though reminded her of what they actually said.
Phos: "It's not that! It's about this Christmas Spirit. I never feel anything because I'm just a gem. And trust me, it's not easy feeling at all when you just a piece of living rock. Heck, I never heard of this Christmas until just now."
Star then decided to ask them if they celebrate this holiday, or any in their home.
Starfire: "Have you ever celebrate Christmas in your world."
Phos shook their head and explained what the gems do in winter.
Phos: "No. We don't celebrate this Christmas or any other holiday. In the winter, we just hibernate until spring because the lack of sun makes us weaker. It's a complex thing we gems have to go through. What about you? Do you celebrate Christmas in your home?"
Star shook her head and never heard of it as well.
Starfire: "Sadly, no. However, there is a day on Tamaran we celebrate at this time called The Great Kergoff. Where the very beast visits my home planet. Unfortunately, it's nothing compared to this festive holiday."
Phos heard that and gave a deep sigh, bending the chair back and was miffed by the whole thing.
Phos: "It's strange, isn't it? We both come from different worlds and we don't know much of this planet at all. And here we are, spending our day in this library while everyone else celebrates it like the arrival of a newborn gem. It's so strange, don't you agree?"
The Tamaranean nodded and knew where she's going with it.
Starfire: "Indeed, it is strange."
The two remain silent and didn't know what to do. That is when Starfire's eyes blink wide and came up with an idea.
Starfire: "I got an idea! Why don't we understand the meaning of Christmas?!"
The Gem looked to her strangely and didn't know what she meant.
Phos: "Huh…?"
Starfire: "Think about it. We both come from different worlds that do not celebrate this holiday. If we do the things the people of Earth do, then maybe we can understand the true value of it."
Phos thought about it and was a little unsure about this."
Phos: "I don't know… Seems to be a bit late considering the tomorrow is the day."
Starfire: "But it will be fun. And besides, it would be perfect to add in your encyclopedia."
Star was a bit sassy about it as Phos listened in. Something like Christmas would make a good section for her next encyclopedia. Maybe let the other gems know about it when they return home with Cinnabar. Thinking it through, they decided to go with the alien's plan.
Phos: "Well… Okay, let's do this. Now where to we begin?"
Star thought about it and decided to do their research first.
Starfire: "I believe that we should, what these humans would call, 'Hit the books'."
And hit the books they did. Together they started getting books explaining about Christmas and what it's all about. Be the religious or festive, they decided to get started in celebrating Christmas in such a short timeframe. Leaving the library, the two headed to various locations to gather gifts, decorations, and festive movies, even heading to the woods where they cut down the tree. With multiple golden arms and alien strength, the two headed back to the Tower and begin decorating. By mid day, the tower was decked in Christmas lights and inflatable balloons while inside the tower, stockings were hung on the counter and presents were gathered around a tree that was in the middle of the lounge with lights and ornaments, with Phos stretching their arm up to place the star on the tree. Yet no matter what they did, they sort of still don't get the true meaning of Christmas. So they look deeper into their research and thought that taking on different activities in understanding the meaning to Christmas. Throughout the rest of the day, the two partake in Christmas activities such as building snowmen, making snow angles, creating gingerbread houses, sledding, snowball fights and so much more. They even partake in a little caroling in neighborhoods in Jump City, even if they were terrible at singing. Yet they still don't understand the true meaning of Christmas. The sun slowly started to set as the night sky was taking over. In Titans Tower, Phos was reading one of the Christmas books while a classic Christmas movie was playing on the window/TV while Star was at the kitchen trying to make something. Looking into what appears to be a religious book, the gem was baffled by it.
Phos: "This is really strange… A lot of people saying that this holiday is about gift giving and tree decorating. But this book says something about celebrating a baby by the name of Jesus Christ, like he's the reason behind this holiday. I swear, these humans have a weird way in celebrating this day."
Star nodded and knew what they meant by that.
Starfire: "Indeed… The people of this planet have their religious ways of celebrating this Christmas. I read that the people of the Jews celebrate this holiday around Christmas called Hanukah where they celebrate seven days. And then there is the land of Africa where the people there celebrate this holiday called Kwanzaa."
Phos looked back to the alien and was astonished about that.
Phos: "Seriously? There are more holidays other then Christmas? Sheesh, who would've thought that they have many holidays around this one month."
The gem noticed the Tamaranean cooking something and was curious about what they're doing.
Phos: "Um… What exactly are you doing?"
Star looked to them and answered.
Starfire: "Oh! I am preparing a Christmas feast for our friends. I learned that cuisines of the family is something that would get them together. So I am preparing a Tamaranean feast fit for royalty. Not much to find in ingredients, but I have to make what is due."
Phos looked to the dishes and soon realized what she making wouldn't be good to anyone. Just the way it's presented won't be really fitting for them.
Phos: "Er… I don't know if our friends will enjoy what you're making. Judging by what you have, I'm sure that they will spend less time at the table and more time in the bathroom, if you know what I mean. It's times like these I'm glad I have no stomach in my body."
The soon sit on the stool of the counter and gave a deep sigh. Star heard that and turned to the gem, wondering what's bothering them.
Phos: "Is something the matter, friend Phos?"
Phos looked up to the Tamaranean and asked her something.
Phos: "Starfire, what are we doing wrong?"
Star looked at them and was a little confused.
Starfire: "Whatever do you mean?"
The gem soon explained what they had been doing, yet haven't accomplished anything.
Phos: "Look around you. We've done what the books said, we deck the tree, set up decorations, play in the snow, and sing carols. Yet no matter what we do, we still don't know the true meaning of Christmas. Even if I am a gem, I don't feel the warm feeling of this Christmas spirit. We were just following the motions and not feeling it. How come we're still not getting it?"
Star thought of that and knew that they have a point. They've been doing anything to understand this holiday, yet they weren't getting anywhere with the true meaning. So she placed her bowl of pudding of happiness and thought of it as well.
Starfire: "Indeed… It is hard understanding the meaning while expressing it in these various activities and traditions. But even if we know on how this Christmas works, it still won't help us understanding the meaning of it. If only we know someone who found this meaning, then maybe we can improve on this holiday.
As they were thinking about it, they could hear the voice of someone on the TV.
"I have learned the most important lesson and the true meaning of Christmas."
The two heard that and turned to the wide screen window/TV where the male actor was talking to the child actor. Leaving the kitchen area, they approached the TV and watched to get an answer.
"Do you know the secret of Christmas Spirit, Billy?"
The two watched on with hopeful eyes, wanting to know the answer to their questions.
Starfire: "Yes… Please tell us."
Phos: "What is the Christmas Spirit?"
They waited for their answers and hope it will give them closure. But before the actor could open his mouth, the screen went to static and a breaking news logo appeared before them. It soon changed to the news anchor as he explained what happened.
"We interrupt 'The Meaning of Christmas' with this breaking story. Flying saucers have touched down in Jump City and have invaded downtown. Moments ago, they sent this transmission."
The image soon changed into what looked like a black and white transmission of a little alien with a ridiculous space helmet and tacky uniform behind what would be the inside of the space ship. It was then that this alien decided to make his demands.
"People of Earth! Surrender to us the one called Santa Clause, or be destroyed! From this day forward, he will finally bring the children of Neptune the joy and happiness they have long been denied!"
The scene started to switch back to the news anchorman as he explained to everyone that the hero team is already there to assist.
"The Teen Titans are already on the scene to defend the city."
The two watched the breaking news and realized that the city is in grave danger.
Phos: "Looks like getting our answer about Christmas will have to wait. Right now, we have a city to save."
Star heard her and responded the best she can.
Starfire: "Agreed… Let us go!"
The two soon left the lounge to join the fight. But then, Phos stopped and almost forgot something. Turning to the tree and the presents all around it, they stretched their arm and grab hold of the one present that is meant for someone. Grabbing the present, they left the lounge and headed straight to battle.
Meanwhile, downtown, the city was in chaos as the citizens running in terror. Above them were flying saucers flying around with lasers firing on anything. Cars were exploding, buildings exploded, and the streets caught fire. In the air, Robin was on one of the saucers using his birdarang to pierce it's casing. He soon jumped off it when it exploded and flipped in the air, throwing multiples exploding disks. Those disks exploded three saucers on contact crashed into the streets. Then, with his Bo Staff, and spins it and landed on the next saucer, piercing it in and caused it to malfunction and headed straight towards a tree. Immediately, Beast Boy swooped in his pterodactyl mode and flew towards him to hop on. Robin saw him and immediately jumped to grab his legs. Once he jumped off it, the saucer crashed right into the tree, engulfing the upper part of it. Both Titans flew through the air as more saucers chased and gun them down. Almost immediately, those saucers were taken out by blaster shots from below. It was Cyborg who shot them down and his blaster was warmed from the attack. He soon started to run from more laser fired and jumped over a turned over car for cover. Blaster shots hit the car and had him trapped. But then, half the saucers were incased in black energy and collided to those that weren't effective, exploding in pieces. That's when Raven floated down and checked to make sure that the hybrid was fine. Cy got out of cover and saw the telepath, thanking her.
Cyborg: "Thanks for the assist, Rae!"
Raven nodded and didn't say anything. Just then, Robin and Beast flew towards them with more saucers following them. Cy saw this and opened up his shoulder blades to fire mini missiles at the enemy front. All those missiles miss the two Titans as the rockets hit the saucers and blew them up. Once they were in the clear, Robin let go of Beast Boy and landed as the changeling shifted back to his human form. He was panting and wasn't happy about this whole thing.
Beast Boy: "Okay… To be fair, this is not exactly how I was expecting to spend my Christmas Eve."
Raven joined them and was in agreement.
Raven: "Clearly they don't care if anyone is celebrating the holidays and care more of devastation."
Robin: "Doesn't matter. We need to defend this city by any threat, no matter the day."
Just then, more saucers started to appear and surround the group. They all notice that and looked to see the saucers around them. Cy saw this and was a little concerned.
Cyborg: "Let's hope we take them all out before Christmas. I just don't want to be turned into mince meat by these guys."
Just as he said that, they all fired their lasers simultaneously, hoping to shred them. Raven quickly got her arms together and formed a dome to deflect those shots. But they need to escape and fight back, otherwise, they won't stand a chance. Suddenly, saucers were hit with green star bolts and golden spears from the ground, shutting them down completely. The group saw this and was a bit confused. But then, they realized who it was. Coming towards them is both Starfire in the air and Phos on the ground. It was then that Star decided to greet them in the most festive way.
Starfire: "Merry Christmas, friends!"
The group looked to the Tamaranean and thought that it wasn't a good time for celebrating.
Robin: "Now is not the time, Star."
Star raised an eyebrow and was confused by that response.
Starfire: "I do not understand. Is not Christmas tomorrow?"
Phos turned to her and noticed more saucers fast approaching them. They soon warned her to watch out.
Phos: "That's not what Robin meant. Behind you!"
Star heard them and turned to see what Robin was saying. That's when she saw the saucers as they were beginning to fire. The two soon went high and low and with Star going high and Phos going low. Flying high in the air, Star quickly used her star bolts and launched a barrage of projectiles, destroying most of the threat. Phos though melt their heels to create a slip and slide to slide on down one end while turning their arms to extended heavy blades, cutting the underbellies of lower saucers to take them out. With most of the forces out of the way, the rest of the team decided to join in and dispose of the rest.
Robin: "Titans! Let's clear the skies!"
Soon enough the group got out of cover and cleared up the rest of the skies. Robin grabbed hold of Beast Boy as he turned into a pterodactyl and flew up high. He soon let got tossed multiple exploding disks at the first batch, causing them to explode on impact. Beast Boy soon flew over one saucer and turned into a gorilla, landing on top of it. That caused the saucer to fly out of control and was firing like crazy. Seeing this, the changeling managed to control the saucer by using his hands to pull it around. That in turn led to the ship firing on its brethren and destroying them in one hit. He soon smashed into the roof and removed the circuitry before jumping off and turning into a hawk to fly away, letting it crash to the ground. Raven quickly flew overhead as the rest of the saucers started to give chase. As she was being chased, she was waiting for the right moment to strike. With a good enough distance, she turned around and outstretched her arms. That's when all the dark energy came out of her and formed a huge raven like bird, cawing right at the enemy. All the saucers stopped and quiver in fear, immediately turning and flying away. The huge raven soon flew towards them and caught up to them, leading to it engulfing the remaining saucers and destroying them all in the process. Cyborg soon joined in and opened his shoulders and armed his cannons, firing at them simultaneously until they were all taken out. For Starfire, she flew around and avoided all the projectiles from one saucer. Seeing an opening, she flew towards it at mach speed and her eyes were glowing green. With her hands together, she fired her green beam and drilled into a saucer. Going through one end and into another, she flew away and the circular ship exploded. She stopped and looked back to see the saucer starting to fall and crash to the ground. But as she was watching, another one appeared close to her and closely targeted the Tamaranean. But before they can fire, something gold started to stretch up wrapped around it. Star turn to see it struggling to escape and then look down to see Phos trying to hold on to it. Turning, they could see the remaining saucers started to charge towards the team. Quickly, the gem started to twist their body and swung the saucer like that of a tornado. Letting go, the spacecraft started to fly towards the group and hit the first one, causing it to explode. That soon led to a chain reaction as all the remaining saucers exploding soon after. Once the explosions ceased and the smoke cleared, the entire streets were cluttered with pieces of alien spacecrafts. Everyone soon grouped together and surveyed the damage, noticing how much destruction these space aliens caused.
Cyborg: "Oh man… Look at this mess! It's going to take a while to clean up. And to think this happened before Christmas of all days."
BB crossed his arms and was in agreement.
Beast Boy: "Tell me about it. And all this because of bunch of aliens from Neptune wanted to have Santa Clause to themselves. The least they can do is not bug us on it."
Star though looked to the mess and told the changeling the grim truth.
Starfire: "Except, there are no aliens and Neptune at all."
Everyone heard her and turned to her wondering what she meant.
Beast Boy: "Say what?"
The Tamaranean soon looked to him and told him about the planet.
Starfire: "Neptune is the eighth planet in the solar system, far away from your sun. No creature would survive in such cold temperatures. Which is why it is uninhabited."
The team heard her side of the story and was quite surprised.
Raven: "Then if Neptune has no life, how was a transmission sent there?"
Robin thought of that and noticed that something wasn't right about the transmission.
Robin: "Because it wasn't. Cyborg, go on the net and search the database for Christmas movies featuring aliens."
Cy heard him and went online to find a Christmas alien movie on his arm. After a bit of searching, he managed to find one that fit the criteria.
Cyborg: "Got it. There seems to be one film that matches Christmas and aliens from Neptune. Holiday for Neptunians, 1954. That alien transmission was taken from the film."
Raven heard of the news and started to ponder.
Raven: "So if there is no life in Neptune and that transmission came from an old movie, where did all these saucers come from?"
Starfire though looked through all of this and didn't see saucers like this.
Starfire: "I never seen spaceships designed like these from any planet. They almost look like something out of a toy commercial."
Robin heard her and thought of that.
Robin: "Toys…"
He soon approached one of the crashed ships and investigates it. Getting one of his Birdarangs out, he gave a good enough slice and the piece fell off. Looking at this, he realized that this saucer wasn't made from any alien material, just Earth based.
Robin: "Just as I thought. These things are made of plastic."
He soon notice what looks like something attached on one of the pieces. Bending down, he picked it up to see what it was. What he saw is a picture of a maniacal jester's head with a title that says, 'Made By…Toys'. Starring at it he knew who created them.
Robin: "Looks like we found the culprit. Turns out these saucers were made by Jester Toys."
The group approached him and was curious about that company. Even Beast Boy was bewildered about it.
Beast Boy: "Jester Toys? Never heard of that company. And that's coming from me that knows every toy company I buy their products."
Robin heard him and told him that there is no company by that name.
Robin: "Because Jester Toys doesn't exist. Like an artist with a giant ego, whoever created these things sign his work. And I know the person responsible for this chaos."
As he said that, a huge shadow started to hover over them. They notice the shadow and looked up to see what appears to be the mother ship. The compartment opened up and someone stepped out of it. When the person stepped in, it wasn't an alien, but it looks like a humanized doll with beefy arms and dressed in a jester like costume completely with a nutcracker like face and was creasing a baby doll. Robin stood up and approached the saucer and knew who this person is.
Robin: "Never thought you show up to Jump, Funhouse."
Indeed, that was Funhouse, one of Batman's old and bizarre rivals. He looked to the Boy Wonder and was a little annoyed, even with a smile on his face.
Funhouse: "Ah, Robin, why do you have to ruin my fun. I was just playing around with my new toys. Is that wrong?"
Robin: "Not if it involves harming innocent lives and destroying property damage."
The others looked to this guy and was surprised that he knew about him.
Cyborg: "Hold up! You know this weirdo?"
Robin looked back and told his team about it.
Robin: "Batman told me about him. He's a delusional toy maker who uses toys as weapons to destroy and steal. He's also a complete sociopath and believes that what he's doing is having fun."
Beast Boy soon remembered two certain brothers that did the same thing.
Beast Boy: "Just like Thunder and Lightning and their way of having fun."
Robin: "Exactly."
He soon turn back to him and was surprised he would show up today of all days.
Robin: "What I wanted to know is why you're here? Last I heard from you, you were let go for good behavior back in Arkum. Now here you are attacking Jump City and on the day before Christmas. What exactly are you playing, Funhouse."
The jester was a little annoyed and was playing it cool.
Funhouse: "Yes, yes… If 'Ifs' and 'Buts' were candy and nut, we'd all have a Merry Christmas. Unfortunately, the games have only just begun tonight. What you've just seen is the first phase of my little Christmas celebration. Soon, the grand finally will come and it will be a Christmas anyone will never forget."
That didn't suit the team just well as Robin decided to stop him and his path of holiday destruction.
Robin: "If you think we're going to let you continue your deranged rampage, you're wrong."
Funhouse didn't take that threat too kindly and decided to offer him a gift of his own.
Funhouse: "Is that right….? Well I'm afraid that won't happen. Here, let me give you an early Christmas present for you."
He soon pulled the string of the doll back and tossed it to the team. He soon flew away as Robin managed to grab it. Looking at the doll, it started to say something to him with her eyes closed.
'Christmas is my favorite time of the year. Won't you play with me?'
Just as she asked that, her eyes opened up and a countdown timer appeared on the eyes drumming down to ten seconds. Seeing that this is a bomb, he turned to Raven and told her to get rid of it.
Robin: "Raven! Take this to the sky, now!"
Quickly, he threw it to Raven as she started to get her hand out and the doll was floating in black magic. She soon twists her wrist up and the doll flew high in the air. When it was high enough, the eyes on the doll reached zero and blew up completely, creating a huge plum of fire and smoke. When it was over, Starfire soon stepped in and didn't like the villain's plan.
Starfire: "This is an atrocity! This Funhouse cannot ruin Christmas!"
Phos stepped in and agreed with her.
Phos: "You're right, Star. We can't let him get away with it."
Robin heard them and turned to the two, telling them that what is happening is more important than the holiday itself.
Robin: "This is about more than ruining Christmas, you two. You've heard what he said? This little alien attack he coordinated is the first phase of him master plan. Which means he has something far more devious in mind. We have to start finding him and stop his schemes, before it's too late."
Cy though approached the two and started to wonder about their interest in Christmas.
Cyborg: "Besides, why do you two care so much anyway?"
Everyone soon surround them and wondered about that as well. Both Titans looked to each other until Star explained their reasons.
Starfire: "Oh… Forgive us, friends. You see, Phos and I are trying to understand the true meaning of Christmas, considering this is our first time celebrating this day of festivities."
Phos soon joined in and added something else.
Phos: "That's true. Also, I really want to understand what this Christmas Spirit is like."
Everyone heard their answers and looked to each other. That's when Beast Boy turned to them and asked about it.
Beast Boy: "Dudes, seriously? You guys never had a Christmas where you from?"
Star and Phos could tell that the changeling was confused and explained as much as possible.
Starfire: "Well, we don't celebrate this Christmas on my planet."
Phos: "And where I'm from, we don't celebrate these holidays, considering we are more concerned of Lunarian attacks. Not to mention that my kind hibernates all winter."
There was a bit of silence until Robin decided to break it up.
Robin: "While I appreciate the two of you understanding your first Christmas, we don't have time for that. Right now, our main concern is to find Funhouse and stop him from what he's planning. Let's split up and cover the whole city. Starfire, you're with me on the east side. Cyborg, you and Beast Boy check the west side. Raven and Phos, head to the skies for airel surveillance. Let's hurry before he cause more trouble."
Soon enough, the group split up and search through different places. But when Raven and Phos was about to leave, the gem decided to stop her and give her something.
Phos: "Wait, Raven. Before we go, I wanted to give you something."
Getting into her pocket, they took it out and showed it to the telepath.
Phos: "Here. Merry Christmas!"
Raven looked at the gift they were holding and noticed it was a small gift that was wrapped in purple wrapping paper and a black bow. Looking at the size, Rae could tell that it's something small. Though, she doesn't know what is inside. Grabbing it, she looked at the gift and sort of intrigued by it.
Raven: "Gee… Thanks…"
Phos smiled and told her about that gift.
Phos: "Star and I have been busy with Christmas shopping and I noticed that on one of the window displays. I thought that was perfect gift for you and bought it right away. It is…a bit pricey, but I think it fits you completely. Go ahead and open it. You might like it."
Raven starred at the gift and wondered if she could open it or not. But with trouble in the city, there is no time for any festivities.
Raven: "It's nice… But we don't have time in opening gifts. We got a Joker wannabe in the city and we need to stop him. I'll open it when it's over."
She soon waved her hand and a portal opened up small enough to fit the gift. Once she placed it in there and disappears, she closed it and told the gem to get going.
Raven: "C'mon. We're wasting enough time already. We got to look up in the skies."
She soon shot up and flew up to the highest building. Phos saw her leave and looked down, a little bummed that their friend didn't open her gift. Still, it's early and Christmas isn't until tomorrow. So they'll wait until then. They soon started to run and one of their heels melted, launching them upwards and after Rae. But the moment they disappear, a shadow was stalking the alleyway. Slowly walking in, it looks like Santa Clause, but looked to be different, with glowing red eyes and was uttering his catchphrase in a metallic and creepy voice.
'Ho, ho, ho…'
That will do it for the Christmas special. I must say, this is a pretty good start. You got two beings who are learning about Christmas and it's meaning and a city under attack by a deranged toy maker. Yes, it does have similarities to the Brave and the Bold show, but this is the best I can do when I have no clue who would make a better villain then Funhouse. Maybe the Puppet King, but he's already been done with. Still, at least I got an idea on what to do. Stay tune for the second part of this Holiday spectacular when the Titans face an army of Santas. And it's not the mall Santas or the Salvation Army kind, it's the killer robot kind. Please Review. #WherearetheGoodCartoons?
