A/N Hey guys, I'm back! Happy holidays!
Percy POV
"Okay Charlie, are you ready?" I asks my not-so-little five year-old daughter.
"Ready as ever!" she exclaims, saluting to me with her wooden spoon in hand.
I smile and adjust to camera so she is in full frame. After watching many many cooking shows on Saturday mornings, Charlie said that for her birthday she wanted to start a cooking show herself. That leads us to now...
Propped up on a step stool, Charlie holds the wooden spoon in one hand and holds a mixing bowl with the other. "Stay still..." I say, trying to take the perfect shot. "Good!"
She puts the props back down. "I wanna see! I wanna see!"
I show her the photo. She gives me a thumbs up. "Looks good, daddy!" I give her a high-five.
"Okay, ready to start filming?" I ask.
She climbs back up onto her step stool. "Yep!"
I adjust the angle of the camera on the tripod until she focuses into frame. "Okay! Ready whenever you are," I tell her.
She mimics the clapboard tool used in action movies with her small hands. "Action!"
I click the 'record' button and let her get cooking.
"Hello! I'm Charlie and welcome to my new cooking show called Cooking with Charlie!"
I give her a silent thumbs up from behind the camera and urge her to continue the lines we practiced.
"Today we will be making a simple pesto recipe from skach... ohh I mean scratch!" she quickly corrects. I give her an encouraging look and she continues. We're gonna do this all in one shot, baby.
After the scripted lines, Charlie takes it away. She definitely a natural when it comes to commentary while cooking and giving step-by-step instructions. I just sit back and admire my little girl do what she wanted to do... I sigh in content-ness. She's going to go places, for sure.
"So first you're going to need some pine nuts. We got ours from Sprouts which is a store that sells vegetables and things. It's...umm.. over there," she points in the direction of our front door. I suppress a chuckle as she continues.
"Put the pine nuts into the mortar and then grab the pestle. Make sure to smash it all the way!"
She looks as me and gives me a slight nod, so I crouch behind the camera and zoom in on the pine nuts. It's our silent communication to let me know what to focus the shot on.
"Next, we add the basil."
I zoom back out as she continues explaining.
-20 minutes later-
"Aaaaaand, that's it! It's super easy, guys. Thank you for tuning in to the Cooking with Charlie show and we will see you next time!"
I hit the record button again to stop the video. "That was awesome, Charlie!"
She jumps into my arms and we do a little success dance together. "Wooohoo! Let's celebrate. How do you want to celebrate, Charlie?"
"Hmmm, can we go to New York Pizza tonight?"
"Of course!"
We start to clean up the bowl and utensils as well as the camera equipment together. "Daddy, what's the next step before we post it?"
"We watch it over together and edit it if we want to take some parts out or zoom in or add words. Stuff like that."
"Ohhh I see. Can we post it tonight?" she eagerly asks.
"If you want to! After we clean up let's look over the footage," I conclude.
"Footage?" she asks, drawing out the word. "That sounds like Fruit-by-the-foot fruit roll ups!"
I throw my head back and laugh. "It does sound similar, huh?! No, actually it's just the video we filmed, unedited," I say between chuckles. She lights up my world.
"Ohhhhhh," she giggles. "Then what happens after we edit it?"
"We post it online. Remember what I told you before?" She frowns a little, trying to remember. "It's okay, I'll explain again. It's hard to get a spot on TV to stream the show, but there is this site called YouTube where anyone can post videos for others to watch. So, we are going to make a YouTube channel for your show and post the videos on there. Makes sense?"
Charlie nods excitedly. I smile.
-timeskip-
"Take that part out!" Charlie states.
"Noooo! I think it's cute. People will love it," I argue.
She yanks my arm. "Pleaaaassseeeeeee."
"What do you mean?" I say.
We are looking over the footage on the sofa, side-by-side like sardines even though there is lots of room to spread out. As we look over the footage, Charlie yanks my arms and gives critic about her explanations, movements, gestures, you name it. Who knew I raised a perfectionist. I sure as heck am not, haha. I wonder where she got that from...
"I messed up, daddy! I said skach instead of scratch."
"But then you corrected yourself, Charlie. That's what matters."
"No, I messed up. I don't want other people to see that I messed up. Let's take that part out!" She argues.
I sigh. "Charlie, listen to me. Everyone makes mistakes. Everyone. So why do we need to 'fix' it? Why do we need to cover it up? You see, people have a chance to cover things up, to pretend they didn't make mistakes, but that's not good. That's the real you right there. We can't take that away. Even if we do remove that little bit, it is still noticeable."
I highlight the part where she said "skach" and replay the clip. "...recipe from...-scratch!"
"See? It's a little bit choppy because your tone is different. It's cute and it's you, Charlie. Don't let your fear of what other people might think of you stop you from doing what you. Okay?"
She looks up at me, her arms still wrapped around mine. "Okay, daddy. I understand."
Then she gets up and turns around to face me with her hands on her hips. "I won't let my mistakes stop me because no one can stop me!" she throes up a fisted hand to the sky and strikes a power pose.
"That's my girl!" I clap.
-timeskip-
"Hello my name is Castor and I'll be your waiter for tonight. What can I get for you?"
"One slice of combo and a sprite for me," I say, then nudge my head towards Charlie so he knows to ask her what she wants.
He gives me a subtle nod and then turns to Charlie. "And for you, miss?"
Charlie's face lights up with a smile. "I want a BIG slice of..." she squints and brings the menu closer to her face even though she can't read too well yet. "...peponi please!"
"A slice of pepperoni for you?" Castor confirms.
"Oh, yeah, haha. Pepperoni," she says. "And lemonade too please!"
Castor smiles and jots it down. "Okay, I'll be back with your food shortly," he responds before leaving.
"Uhhh I can't believe I messed up the order!" Charlie complains.
I chuckle because it the sentence sounds cute coming from a five year-old with pigtails and bangs. "That's okay. Remember what I told you earlier?"
She perks up. "Oh yeah! It's no big deal. Everyone makes mistakes."
"Exactly."
"Can we check the video while we wait?" she asks. We posted the video just before leaving the house. Charlie has been antsy ever since, hoping to see how many people have watched it.
"Oh alright. But let's not get our hopes up because it's only been a few minutes," I tell her.
"Okayyyyyyy," she says.
When I pull out my phone and refresh the already open page, nothing changes. Still zero.
I give her a sympathetic look. "Sorry, kiddo. These things take time to accumulate views."
She sighs. "That's alright. We will keep making videos so people can find them!"
"Sounds like a good plan!"
I will say, I felt a little bad that the video didn't have any views. I knew not to expect much since we posted it so recently, but I didn't want to let her down, even if it was out of my control.
So, I did what I could do: sent it to everyone I knew.
My mom, dad, Charles beckendorf, Selina. Not the seven though... not anyone from my old life.
While scrolling through my contacts, I came across one labeled, "Owl head"
It's been a while since we last talked. She said she had a business trip for a few weeks and wouldn't be able to talk, but after that we just stopped talking. Maybe she forgot, or maybe she didn't have time anymore. Either way, I had nothing to loose. Heck, I hadn't even seen her in real life, as did she.
With that in mind, and the fact that my dear daughter's dream was on the line, I clicked the contact and started drafting a message.
A/N Sorry for the long waittttttt. I had a writers block and then school was taking up a huuuge amount of my time. Then it was finals so I had, like, zero time, lol.
Anywaysssss, we're back at it again!
ALSO: I DROPPED A NEW STORY! (sry for the long wait guys, lol. I said I would release it a while ago but then life got busy). I JUST POSTED IT, SO PLEASE CHECK IT OUT. IT'S CALLED, "WHEN TWO WORLDS COLLIDE" It's another AU Percabeth fanfc ofc!
Here's the full description, if you're curious:
Annabeth liked to plan her death, but she didn't necessarily want to die. It was more of an escape from her sad reality. Working herself to the limit to pay off her drug-addict mom's bills was not her ideal life. The real world was a cruel place, she learned, especially when she witnessed her father and best friend die at the hands of the Royals. People are out to get you, and rules are meant to be broken.
Percy was King of the Poseidon Kingdom, so his life was taken over by royal duties. The top priority was always the Kingdom. But, it wasn't his decision to be King, and sometimes he yearned to have a normal life. Where he wasn't pressured to marry a rich girl, attend meetings, give speeches. He wanted to explore the world, and live his life to the fullest. Then again, he was used to being treated with utmost respect. Would he have a better life as just a regular commoner? Or was he wasting his life playing by the rules?
When a dare sets their paths to align, sparks fly. The question is: was it Percy's feelings, or had Annabeth set fireworks in the Palace?
With a healthy dose of badass-ery and sass, comes my new story: When Two Worlds Collide
