Hailey spent a lot of time at there house over the next few weeks and Hank was relieved that Hailey's was spending so much time at there house because he didn't have to worry about her when she was here because he knew she was safe.

Hailey's birthday approached and the group all went out for a big group meal. They talked and laughed for ages and Hailey loved it, it was so simple yet so perfect, the team laughed after hearing Adam moan that the party would have been so much better.

Hailey landed up staying the night at Erin and Jays and it was the perfect ending to the perfect day.

Both Hailey and Jay were very nervous though for there date tomorrow and neither got much sleep, they were both worried that it would be awkward or change things between them and they didn't want to mess up there friendship so they felt as though there was so much riding on this date. However it turned out perfectly, it wasn't awkward at all and they had spent the entire time laughing and talking and if anything had made them closer.

Jay had dropped of Hailey at home and opened the front door greeting everyone, Hank noticed he was beaming and was very happy for him. He had hoped it had gone well but he could tell it went better than he expected and he realised he hadn't seen Jay this happy in a very long time.

As the weeks went on Hank made an effort to get to know Hailey better and he had come to really like the girl, she was respectful and very sweet, but also tough and can look after herself. She also looked out for Jay and was incredibly loyal.

When Hank had asked Trudy what Hailey was like and Trudy told him that Hailey was very likeable, he wasn't sure what she meant like that but after getting to know Hailey he realised what she had meant. There was nothing about Hailey that you could dislike, she had no reason for someone to hate her in fact she almost dragged you in and made you feel the need to protect her.

Hailey and Jay eventually told people they were dating which was no surprise as everyone saw it coming. The group had become closer and everything was aligning into place.

Jay was at home with Hailey at her place and they were watching a movie her head resting on his shoulder. Her parents weren't home and Hank had work people over. He was enjoying spending time with her at her place because it was away from the staring eyes of his family. They were watching a movie and Hailey was snuggled into his side when her parents stormed through the front door screaming at each other in a language Jay didn't understand. Hailey tensed up at the sound and sent an apologetic look to Jay who just gave her hand a reassuring smile. Her parents didn't even notice the to teens sitting on the couch in the lounge as they went straight into the kitchen continuing to argue. He felt Hailey was still extremely tense and he wished he could understand what they were saying. Hailey's body was curled up into Jays side almost as though she was trying to hide from the situation as they continued to watch the movie in attempt to drown out her parents. Jay just kept a hold of Hailey's hand and thought how terrible it was the way the acted.

"HAILEY ANN UPTON, GET YOUR ASS IN THIS KITCHEN THIS INSTANCE" her father screamed in English now and Hailey took a breath to brace herself.

"You stay here I'm going to see what they want" Hailey said to Jay

"No it's fine I'll come with" Jay said also getting up

"Jay" she said but knew she wasn't going to win.

They walked into the kitchen and Hailey could see the expression of anger on her fathers face, her dad was immediately taken back by the sight of Jay who he hadn't realised was here. He pulled himself together and glared at Hailey again.

"Who's this" he said his voice laced with anger

"This is Jay remember" She said quietly and politely

"Remember, Hailey's boyfriend" Hailey's mom piped up and her father just glared at both of them.

"Did I say he could be here" he said walking closer to Hailey and Jay saw her tense up.

"I just thought you guys won't going to be for a few hours still" Hailey replied

"Oh so you think when we're not home you can just do whatever the hell you please" he said getting in her face his voice getting louder

"Alastair please we are getting of topic" her mother pleaded trying not to escalate the situation especially not with Jay present. Hailey took a step back to create distance between Hailey and her dad and Jay put his hands on her shoulders to comfort her.

"Hailey your father was just wondering if you could cover our shift on Monday because we have some matters to take care of" Hailey's mother explained kindly

"Oh I'm I have tests on Monday I really can't miss them but I can work after school" Hailey said to them which enraged her father.

"You will be working Monday end of discussion" her father said with authority

"Please they really important I can't miss them" Hailey pleaded and he got in her face.

"I have spoken" he said and Jay saw Hailey let out a breath. He knew she had given up in fear of how this conversation would end.

"Oh well if she needs to go to school on Monday sweetheart then we can just get someone else to cover the shift" Hailey's mother said

"What you think money just grows on trees" Hailey's father said again turning his attention to Hailey

"No mom it's fine" Hailey tried to diffuse the situation but it was too late and Jay hated how Hailey was so nervous in her own home.

"Your so Flipping ungrateful, you think you can just sit here and do nothing and expect us to do everything" Hailey dad said getting really into Hailey's face and Jay could see Hailey's hands shaking slightly and Jay was trying to control his anger towards her father.

"You just going to stand there and say nothing" Her dad almost shouted at her but Hailey didn't know how to respond so said nothing and instead looked down at her feet.

"When I talk to you I expect you to respond" he said grabbing her arm tight and Jay could see his hand digging into her skin.

"Alastair please" her mother pleaded.

"No, She needs to learn her place" her father said delivering a backhand through Hailey's face.

Jay quickly put himself in between her father and Hailey grabbing her hand pulling Hailey behind him.

"Don't you dare treat her like that" Jay spoke confidently

"How dare you interrupt me when I'm speaking to my daughter, what the hell gives you the right to do that" he said

"What the hell gives you the right to treat her like that" Jay spoke back giving Hailey's hand a reassuring squeeze and pulled even further behind him to protect her from her father. Hailey basically hide behind Jay which broke his heart how scared of her father she was.

"Yea and what you going to do about it" her father challenged getting in Jays face and they all knew how fast things could escalate and Jay didn't really know how far Hailey's father could take things.

"Look I'm not looking for trouble but I'm not going to stand her and let you treat Hailey like this" Jay spoke attempting to not escalate the conversation

"Yea well I don't know who the hell you are coming her and telling me how I can treat my daughter" he said through gritted teeth grabbing Jays shirt in attempt to hold dominance over Jay.

"Alastair stop" Hailey's mother's voice spoke up with such authority Hailey had never heard before.

"Leave the kids alone right now" she spoke again with confidence that took Hailey by surprise.

Hailey's father turned glaring at his wife and Jay was sure if looks could kill Hailey's mother would be dead now but instead he dropped his grip on Jays shirt and walked past them up the stairs making sure to glare at Hailey as he walked past. When he got to his bedroom door he slammed it shut making Hailey jump.

"Don't worry about him sweetly he's just in a mood" Hailey's mother told Hailey trying to make Jay believe things weren't as bad as they were.

"You go to school on Monday, we'll be fine" Hailey's mother said again and Hailey didn't say anything just nodded and Jay could tell she was now worried about what would happen come Monday and he made a mental note to make sure he got to Hailey's house early on Monday morning to pick her up.

"Are you two staying for dinner" Hailey's mom asked both of them

"Actually I was hoping to take Hailey out for dinner tonight if that's okay with you" Jay asked politely to Hailey's mom. He wasn't actually planning on going out to eat but he could tell Hailey needed to get out of here for a while.

"Oh of course dear, you two have fun" she said and they said there goodbyes before grabbing there coats and leaving the house. Hailey hadn't spoke a word since everything had happened until they got to Jays car.

"I'm sorry about everything" Hailey apologised refusing to make eye contact and Jay could see her check had turned red from her father.

"Hailey you don't have to apologise" Jay reassured her

"But you could have been hurt because of me" Hailey spoke and Jay pulled Hailey into a hug.

"Hey in fine nothing happened, I will always protect you" Jay spoke.

They pulled away from the hug and climbed onto the car.

"Your mom is she always like that" Jay asked referring to the way her mother stood up for then.

"No, she only did that because she didn't want things to escalate whilst you where there" Hailey spoke quietly.

"So if I wasn't there" Jay asked

"She would have just left the room and let me deal with my dad" Hailey said and Jay was shocked.

When they arrived at the restaurant Hailey was still quiet but throughout the night Jay got her smiling and laughing again. Hailey stayed the night at Jays and everything was okay.
