"I got something!", Baez called out. Danny immediately jumped up from his desk. Finally! They had been looking through their files to find any trace of where the bacteria lab could be. Baez showed him a document. "I´m not sure if this is the solution, but I found out that Conrad Jackson bought an old storage shed near Stony Point just half a year ago. There had been some deliveries to that place, some stuff you could need for building a lab." Danny checked the address. "If you are right, we are just a one-hour drive away from the possible antidote. But if not, we would waste precious time." He didn´t know what to do. This was their only trace, but if it turned out useless… He sighed. "You know, he was right thinking he is dying. The antidote is his only chance to survive. We must at least give it a try." Baez took the car keys and they got up.
The traffic out of New York city was terrible. A bus ignoring Baez right of way nearly made her hit the breaks and curse out. Both detectives were stressed like hell, as well as concerned. Even if they didn´t talk about it, they knew they were short of time. The route to Stony point would take one hour, just like the way back. Altogether they would need more than two hours to get the antidote for Jamie without even knowing if it really existed.
Eddie stood in the waiting room. The last 24 hours she had been helping the officers investigating Blaze´s apartment and analysing traces. She had been sent to the Medical lab and back, carrying notes, answering questions about the operation of the passed day. While doing so, she had always tried to find out about Jamie, but there had been few people who knew anything. Finally, she had asked the Commissioner if she could visit her partner. He agreed, so Eddie didn´t hesitate to drive to St. Victors. A nurse came up to her. "You are Officer Reagan´s partner?" "Yes, I am. Could I… could I see him maybe?" "Of course. Follow me." They walked through the corridors, stopping at a door. The nurse gave her a serious look. "I must warn you, he is not well. His sister is with him at the moment, she had been there for quite a long time." Eddie nodded. She had heard that Jamie was in a terrible condition. The nurse opened the door. Jamie´s sister Erin was sitting in a chair next to the bed, where Jamie was lying, wearing a CPAP-mask. He was pale and in a sweat, his whole body trembling. In the back of the room stood two doctors watching him closely. Erin turned around. "Hello, Eddie.", she said with a tired voice. "Hi. How… how is he?" Erin just shook her head. A choking noise came from the bed and Jamie suddenly coughed. His fingers in panic clutched the CPAP-mask and he pulled it off his face. Doubling up, he worked hard to catch his breath again. When he lied back, his eyes flickered in Eddies direction. Something like a smile came on his pain-distorted face. "Hey Eddie.", he whispered. "Hey.", she responded. Jamie tried to say something, but he couldn´t get any word out. His throat seemed clothed and he couldn´t breathe. It was as if a big hand squeezed the last bit of air out of his lungs. He felt an arm on his back, settling him upright. The CPAP-mask was pressed to his face and he could hear Doctor Brook talking. "Take a deep breath, come on." He tried. A hand pressed to his back and made him finally cough and gasp for air, the taste of blood filled his mouth. With the mask back on his face, he lied back. He didn´t know how long he could go on.
