You're Beautiful
Tecna had been looking herself in the mirror beside her bed for the longest time, savoring the last moments she would ever look the way she had. After long, painstaking minutes of hesitation, she began to sprinkle the hair spelling potion on a strand of her bright magenta locks. Suddenly, her door opened, and a horrified voice rang out in all corners of her bedroom.
"Tecna!" It was Timmy, and she abruptly stopped what she was about to do and faced him as he ran to sit beside her on the bed. He looked completely taken aback at what she was about to do.
"Timmy, what are you doing here?" She asked him. She knew he was the only person willing to fight with every fiber of his being to get her to stay the way she was, the only one.
"The girls said you told them that you were working on a new project, so I thought I'd come to give you a hand." He told her.
"It's not that kind of project." She muttered, unable to meet his gaze. She couldn't face him, knowing that he would be crushed by the reality she was facing.
"Tecna… is that hair spelling potion?" He finally pressed after a second of contemplation, the realization dawning on him of what her project actually was, "And hair dye?" He also happened to notice a box of hair dye that was a color similar to his own ginger hair.
"Yes…" She answered after more hesitation. She couldn't lie to the one she loved more than anything in the Magical Dimension.
"But Tec…, I love your vibrant magenta hair. Why would you ever change it?"
"I have to face it, Timmy, apparently intelligence doesn't get you any appreciation in this world. Look at all the other Winx, they have long, flowing hair that doesn't stick out like a sore thumb. And I guess I'm just too technical for the rest of them to bother with. I'm hardly ever a part of a mission anymore! I just stand there and hardly even get a word in!" Before Tecna knew it, she had spilled her heart out to him, confining in him all her woes. It was so easy for her to break, to crumble and melt whenever in the presence of the ginger haired Specialist. Damn these blasted emotions! She looked away from him again, not wanting to see the expression on his face. However, with her eyes closed, she felt his hand gently cup her chin to face in his direction.
"Tecna, I want you to look me in the eyes and say that you're beautiful. And don't just say it, believe it." The technology fairy was forced to look in her loving boyfriend's golden eyes. He was the only one who would not stop until she believed those words for herself. He could say them until he was blue in the face, but it would only make a difference if she knew it. At that moment, staring into the eyes of her lover, she felt stronger. She felt confidence, power, and most importantly, acceptance of who she truly was. As soon as that wave of acceptance hit her, so did the tears begin to freefall from her teal eyes. This broke Timmy's heart, she had that low of self-esteem that she couldn't even say the truth, and he knew it was true that his Tecna was a different and rare type of beautiful.
"What is it, what's wrong." He didn't have to ask the question to know the answer, but he didn't know what else to do.
"You're the only one who's ever called me that before." Tecna admitted between sobs.
"I wouldn't say it if it weren't true." Timmy pressed, and Tecna only sighed in response.
"You're my boyfriend, your personal bias sways your opinion in favor of me." She stated with all the logic and reasoning she could muster in her emotional state.
"Even if you had rejected me, my opinion would've never changed." He told her, "I would've still believed you were an absolute goddess. A treasure that could never be mine. Thank goodness you didn't reject me so I could treat you like the goddess that you are."
"Even if you think I'm beautiful, Timmy, the rest of the world favors fairies like Stella, Flora and especially Bloom…. Bloom, the epitome of perfection. Possessor of the all-powerful Dragon's Flame, Princess of the most influential kingdom of all the Magical Dimension, leader of the most famous group of evil fighters known in history, a lead-singer of a band consisting of said group… need I go on?"
"Are you… jealous?" Timmy asked.
"Honestly, Timmy…, I am." Tecna confessed as she hung her head in shame, "But jealousy is such a disgraceful, illogical-!"
"Listen, Tec. Beauty should not be defined by appearances or popularity. What the world sees in magazines is an unrealistic and unhealthy standard of beauty that is almost impossible to achieve without losing one's individuality in the process. You are rational, analytical and you always think things through before acting. That is a rare thought process that the world has lost touch with. The world does favor the girls who look like models in magazines, but that's only because they have no idea how beneficial the priorities of people like you could be. If people stopped caring about following the next biggest thing and started thinking before they jump into things, the world would be a far better place. I know I… kinda went on a bit of a tangent there Tecna, but… what I'm trying to say is that you are courageous, intelligent, and powerful in a way that doesn't need brute force. If people only knew how powerful your mind is, they would fall to your knees. And all those traits that you have are much more beautiful than the rarest diamonds. So, please Tecna, don't ever change a thing." By the end of Timmy's rambling, fresh tears had sprung in Tecna's eyes. This time, they were tears of pure bliss. Never had she felt so loved, so appreciated than in this very moment. She flung her arms around her hero's neck, and he tightened the embrace, lifting her chin as their lips met.
"You're beautiful Tecna, a special, rare kind of beautiful." Timmy told her in a soft whisper, "And if the world can't see that, it's their loss, because I've got the rarest star in the universe and I'm going to treat her the way she deserves."
"Oh Timmy." Tecna said with a deep, dreamy sigh as she closed her eyes and rested her head on his chest.
