A/N: Hi! Thank you for your feedback! Hope you'll enjoy this chapter!
Marinette made her way inside the classroom, gripping her books tight to her chest. She listened to Alya talk, but she wasn't paying attention to what her friend was telling her. It disappointed Marinette that Adrien didn't tell her about his split with Kagami. The young woman could not explain why Adrien hid it from her. Didn't he trust her enough to let her know? Why didn't Kagami tell her yesterday?
"Earth to Marinette!" The teen snapped out her thoughts and glanced at Alya, curious and puzzled. Alya sighed, shaking her head as she sat down. "Are you coming over to my place tonight?" Alya repeated, raising her eyebrow. Marinette sat next to Alya, placing her books on the desk. The blue-haired heroine sighed a bit, then nodded.
"Yeah, of course." Marinette muttered as she opened her history book.
"Are you still thinking about Adrien and Kagami breaking up?" Alya asked, shifting closer to her. Marinette opened her mouth to talk, but a voice interrupted her.
"Hello, girls." Adrien smiled as he waved at his friends. Marinette glanced at him, then at her book. The blonde glanced at Alya, then at Nino. He sat down, turning to face Marinette. "Hey, are you okay?"
Marinette got a bit annoyed with his question. "I am okay." She simply said, avoiding looking at him.
Adrien frowned, confused. He glanced at his friends, who were on purpose pretending to do something else, so they wouldn't be involved in the talk. He rolled his eyes. "Are you sure? I texted you yesterday, but you ignored it."
"Oh, sorry, didn't see it." She shrugged, still avoiding eye contact. How the tables have turned.
Adrien raised one eyebrow. "I know you've read my message, Marinette. It showed me."
The girl looked at Adrien. She tilted her head. "Oh, really? I may have lied." A wry grin showed up on her face.
Adrien frowned, confused. "What? What's wrong with you, Marinette?" He asked, slightly annoyed.
"You tell me, Adrien." Marinette leaned against her elbows, closer to Adrien. "Didn't you lie to me yesterday as well? When I asked you to bring Kagami... didn't you omit to mention something?"
His eyes widened a bit. He glanced at Alya, but the girl was pretending to read, clearly uneasy. He sighed, looking back at Marinette. "You see... we broke up after you and I discussed yesterday?" He attempted to lie, rubbing the back of his head.
Marinette groaned. "Hm, interesting. Because, when I got to the bakery, Kagami was there. I told her about my intentions. She mentioned something about you not telling me I don't know what, but I ignored it. And just as Kagami left, Alya came and told me you two broke up. It's somewhat hard to believe you broke up with her as soon as you got in your car." Marinette finished matter-of-factly, raising her eyebrows.
Adrien cringed a bit, then glared at Alya. Damn you, Cesaire. "I..." He bit his cheek, uncertain what to reply. There was no solid excuse to explain all this mess.
"You lied to me, Adrien! Why? You could've been sincere with me. I know I would've been with you..." She said, disappointed.
There was something in him that snapped. He felt culpable, but anger started building in him. "You're the one to talk?" He grimaced, causing Marinette's eyebrows to go up once again.
"What?"
"You haven't been genuine with me either, Marinette. You lied to me as well!" His irritation showed up. For the past few years, she told him he was just a friend. Hiding her feelings for him... and now she was talking about honesty.
The girl was obviously astonished. "What are you talking about, Adrien? I... I have been sincere with you." She mumbled, causing him to puff in anger.
''We both know you haven't been honest, Marinette. You have hidden so many things from me. Now I know why. " Marinette looked a bit alarmed. Adrien was about to speak, but was cut off.
"Enough, both of you!" Alya snapped, closing her book forcefully.
"Yeah, dude, that's not cool. Don't argue, especially when you're in the classroom." Nino said, looking around. Everybody had their eyes set on the teenagers, looking both startled and curious about what was going on.
He exhaled, shaking his head. He turned back in his seat, opening his own book. Nino tried to tell him something, but gave up. He glanced behind. Alya had a hand on Marinette's shoulder. The petite girl stared in Adrien's direction, amazed by his reaction. Tears were noticeable in the corner of her eyes, but she held them back.
What the hell was wrong with Adrien? What was he talking about?
Her eyes widened a bit. The things she had hidden from him all those years... did he figure out she was Ladybug?
Marinette sat down on the chair, staring over her laptop screen. Today was a nightmare. After Adrien's burst, he ignored her. She was so confused about what happened to him. The thoughts of him finding out she was Ladybug took over her the entire day. There was no way he figured it out.
But what if he did?
"Marinette, are you okay?" Tikki came out of her bag, looking at her owner.
"Tikki... what if Adrien knows that I am Laydbug?" She whispered, horrified.
Tikki's eyes widened. She shook her head. "No, no, no, Marinette. I am sure you are overthinking."
"But what else could it be? What hidden thing did he figure out?"
Tikki looked at Marinette, sadness on her face. If only she could tell her...
Instead of answering, Tikki pointed to Marinette's clock. "Don't you have to meet Cat Noir in 10 minutes for your patrol?"
Marinette's eyes widened. Shoot, she forgot. "Fuck." She murmured. "I forgot. Tikki, spots on!" As soon as she transformed, she threw her yo-yo out the window and made her way to the Eiffel Tower.
Cat Noir sat on the floor, playing with the stick as he waited for Ladybug. It's been a few days since the two have seen each other, because there has been no akumatized person. How strange.
"Hey, kitty." Ladybug said as she sat down next to him. Before he could answer, she continued, "I am so sorry for the way I acted last time we saw each other. I didn't mean to come out as not trusting you." She apologized.
Cat Noir smiled. "No worries, Ladybug. I'm not mad anymore." He said, but he appreciated her apologizing. He had other things to worry about. Leaning back on his hands, Cat Noir continued. "Weird how Hawk Moth hasn't akumatized anyone."
"Yeah, maybe he gave up." Ladybug shrugged. When Cat Noir didn't answer, Ladybug glanced at him. "Are you okay?"
Cat Noir was about to say he was. Yet, he didn't have the power to pretend. He wanted to talk to someone about his feelings. "Not really."
Ladybug looked worried. She moved closer to Cat, placing a hand on his shoulder. "What's wrong?" She whispered.
Cat looked at her, then sighed and stared at the sky. "Well... I realised my feelings for a girl a few days ago. She has been my friend for a long time, but I have been too blind to see that she liked me. Or that I liked her more than a friend. I wanted to confess, but it turns out she moved on."
It surprised Ladybug. Wow, Cat Noir was over her. After all those years. She wasn't sure if she should be happy he moved on or sad that he had no luck with the mysterious girl.
"Seems like I am unlucky in love." He giggled.
Ladybug sighed, rubbing his shoulder. "I... I'm sorry to hear that." She whispered, "But don't give up. I think you should confess. Maybe she still feels something for you." He did not answer, just stared at the sky. The heroine sighed once again. "I made that mistake, Cat." He looked at her, curious. "The boy I kept telling you about. I was too afraid to confess and... I lost him. Maybe if I had confessed, things would've been different now." She looked down. Taking a deep breath, Ladybug looked at Cat Noir. "You're an exceptional guy. I am sure she still feels something for you. It's not that easy to get rid of love." She smiled, poking his cheek. "Don't give up on her. Tell her how you feel."
Cat smiled a bit. She was right. "Thank you, Ladybug!" He leaned in to hug her. A friendly hug. She smiled, hugging him back, patting his back.
"Claws out." Adrien rubbed his back as Plagg flew out of his ring and fell to the floor.
"I need Camembert..." The kwami whined, dragging his body to his cheese deposit. Adrien rolled his eyes a bit.
"Ladybug was right, Plagg... I have to confess to Marinette."
"Good luck confessing after making a scene today." Plagg said as he ate the cheese. "Ah, so delicious...my love." He hugged the cheese.
Adrien sighed, slapping his forehead. Right. He's been an asshole to Marinette today. He wasn't sure what came over him or why he snapped like that. "You're right... she's pissed." He sighed, falling onto his bed. He groaned, grabbing a pillow to cover his face. "I have to talk to her and see how she feels about me, Plagg... but not as Adrien."
Plagg's eyes widened. "No, no, NO! I will not be involved in your personal problems again, young man!" He frowned, crossing his arms over his chest.
"Please, Plagg!" He begged. He heard his phone bleep and grabbed it. It was a message on their group chat from Alya. He opened it, seeing a picture. Juleka and Rose were standing on the couch, smiling at the camera, hugging. Mylene and Alix were on the floor, Marinette between them. She was the only one not to look at the camera, but down at her phone. "So they have a girls' night." He murmured.
"See? That's the universe telling you to calm down!" Plagg protested, "Adrien, talk to her on Monday. Apologise and confess, then. Don't get Cat Noir involved. Let's not forget, last time it was a mess."
Adrien sighed. He didn't say a word, just got up and went to take a shower.
Marinette walked out of Alya's room to the kitchen. The girls fell asleep. She tried to, but it was impossible. The sadness took over her, making her think only about Adrien and his words today.
After her patrol with Cat Noir, she kept talking with Tikki about the possibility of Adrien finding out she was Ladybug. But Tikki made her realise it was absurd. There was no way he knew she was Ladybug. It was impossible. Then again, what did he mean about her being dishonest?
As she was pouring some water in a glass, she heard some tapping on the window. The girl yelped, almost dropping the glass. She looked over and frowned, confused. "Cat Noir?" She walked to open the window.
"Hello, may I?" he asked, politely. Marinette nodded, taking a few steps back so he could jump inside. "Sorry to disturb you."
Marinette was puzzled. "Um, no worries...but, how did you know I was here?" Cat's eyes widened a bit.
"Oh, um...I have my ways." He sat on the counter, looking over at Marinette. His eyes lingered over her long, white legs a little longer than they should have. Blushing, the boy focused back on her beautiful face. "I was curious how you were."
Marinette sighed, shrugging. "Alright, I think..." She whispered. She sipped from the water. "Okay, I am not. After talking to you that night, so many things happened."
"I have all night." Cat shrugged.
Marinette looked at Cat, then bit her lip. " Okay... long story short. Adrien talked to his dad, and he offered me the chance to work for him. However, Mr. Agreste told me something about not being afraid of new beginnings. And that made me think of my relationship with Luka. I realised I might give it a chance."
Cat's eyes widened. So...his own father was the reason the two kissed?
"We kissed, and...it was nice, I guess. I mean, not how I would've expected. But I liked it. Anyway, I became more comfortable around Adrien. Then, he hid from me that he broke up with his girlfriend, Kagami. I was mad and disappointed. I told him this today and he just... snapped. He accused me of not being honest with him. I have no idea what he has been talking about. He ignored me all day... and I'm just sad."
Cat gulped as he heard the story. He looked away, guilty. Maybe he overreacted today. "Maybe he didn't mean to snap like this." He whispered.
"I don't know. I cannot understand why he said I haven't been honest with him...the only thing I've hidden from him are my feelings...for obvious reasons. But there's no way he found out I like him. The girls wouldn't tell him. Neither Nino. I would suspect Chloe, but-"
"Chloe knows?!" Cat's eyes widened. Really?! Everyone knew she liked him... except for him?!
"Um, yeah. She kind of found out without me wanting to. But she basically told me I am worth the effort to tell him. I believe her on that." She murmured, rolling her eyes. "Anyway, the only other person who knew was you." She looked at him. He looked a bit panicked and tried to say something, but Marinette cut him off, "But I know you wouldn't tell anyone. I trust you."
He breathed out, relieved. Thank God she was clueless. "Calm down. I am sure he didn't want to be mean to you. He will apologise for sure, just wait."
"I hope he is not mad at me... I cannot lose him." She whispered.
Cat blushed, a warm feeling taking over him. He hoped off the counter, then walked to Marinette. He hugged her tightly. Marinette hugged him back, resting her head against his chest. She listened to his heartbeat. Steady, calming. She closed her eyes, relaxing as his hands were moving up and down her back.
"Everything will be okay...you have no idea how much you mean to him, trust me." He murmured. Marinette's eyes widened as she slightly pulled away from the hug, looking up at him. He stared down at her. His green eyes stared into her big, blue bell ones. Without thinking, he slowly started leaning down.
Marinette blushed, watching Cat Noir lean closer to her. She should pull away. That would be the smart thing to do. Instead, she tip-toed slightly, her head moving closer to his own. Her eyes kept staring into his own, but then started closing.
"Um, hello? What's going on here?"
