So... You'd think two of my beloved favorite Let's players playing Luigi's Mansion 2, a 3rd game coming out, and a global pandemic would get me back on me feet with writing.
And, um... no. I'm kinda lazy and ashamed that it took me this long.
I will say that I have been working on a program called Source Filmmaker, which is a 3D animating software, and have been making plans for making animations involving Tails and Cosmo, and just whatever else I might want to do. The idea has crossed my mind of making a proper animated adapti0on of this story, but that's a long ways away. My YouTube channel name is the same as my fanfiction, I've only really uploaded 1 main video over two years ago. I do plan on making a comeback to that channel, as well as writing more of this. After all, if I can't even finish a fanfiction, what hope do I have of actually making animations?
Haha... depressing. I promise I'll try and be better then I've been in the past 3 years. On the bright side, this is the end of the second act of this story, so next chapter is act 3, the final act. A few good reveals will happen there, some of which, I've... admittedly been dreading now, but I'll stick to them, because that's what I originally was going to write, and that's what I will end with.
I'm sorry for taking so long. Here's to hoping I can do more for 2021.
Cosmo stood in the dark living room of the haunted mansion, catching her breath. Even running down a flight of stairs made her exhausted, after all of the beating her body took. Her teeth gritted as she felt the pain of the wound inflicted upon her abdomen.
She began to wonder to herself if this was all worth it, running through this place like this. Though, she knew she couldn't reasonably heal up at all right now, given the circumstances. But if she didn't do anything-
Her inner thoughts were interrupted by the sound of banging. Very loud banging. And a strange tune. Cosmo looked at the door where the sound was coming from. It grew louder. And louder. And louder.
The door flung open suddenly, and the room was immediately illuminated by a blinding light that exuded all of the colors of the rainbow. The darkness immediately left, with the only corners of the room covered in darkness being shadows cast by various pieces of furniture.
The sound of the strange, pure light being was a tune unlike anything Cosmo had ever heard. And with that tune were vocals to accompany them, but she couldn't tell what they were. She was too awestruck as the being stepped in the room, with such exuberant force that it made her heart jump to her throat. An incredible gust of wind flew from the strange being. It felt like an eternity, but in reality, the phenomenon was only here for a brief instance, making its way all around the room, and eventually up the stairs. Soon the light faded as it made its turns, and the room was now pitch black as it was before.
Cosmo remained silent for a few seconds, blinking to exactly comprehend what just passed before her eyes, "I think that was the scariest thing I've ever seen."
She limped over to the bathroom and locked herself inside, before curling up like a ball, "I-I'm just gonna… stay in here for a little while…"
She noted that it smelled awful in here. The smell was so potent that one could practically taste the awful stench. But this was better than running into… whatever that was. She rested herself up against the wall of the bathroom, laying her head back to the wall hard enough to make a thud. Along with making vibrations on the wall. A cabinet above her opened up, and she was knocked on the head. She squealed loudly as the sudden pain erupted from the top of her head. Whatever it was landed right in front of her. She glanced at the object that caused her pain and saw what it was. It was a first aid kit.
She blinked for a second before picking it up and smiling, "This could be useful…"
The door to Crystal's room opened as Tails limped inside, followed closely by Luigi. The two were beat up from their intense fight between Ricky and Glacia, their bodies burned by both fire and frost. The adrenaline from before was beginning to wear off, and pain was entering their systems. They both took more damage from Ricky and Glacia then they realized. They legitimately might have to go back and recuperate at E. Gadd's. But if Luigi knew anything, Tails wouldn't do that. He'd continue in spite of his grevious wounds. He had to find Cosmo, and if he had to catch all the rest of these ghosts to do so, he wouldn't stop until he had it done. On one hand, a valiant trait, and on the other, incredibly short sighted.
The two of them climbed their way up the stairs, though with their wounds, it was more like they were crawling up them. The crow with the silverheart appeared, watching over them as they climbed. It cawed, spooking Luigi into the side of the railing. "Owie…"
"Come on, Luigi… Let's get to the top… Maybe Crystal can point us out to the last bunch of ghosts…" Tails groaned.
"Yeah… Hopefully they're not as bad as those last two…" Luigi muttered.
The two of them climbed to the top of the staircase. The only thing that waited for them was the table and the crystal ball. However, a figure faded in existence. And that figure was Crystal. She overlooked the burned sidekicks, her brow drooping at their sorry sight.
"Oh, my. You took care of those two, now, did you?"
"At the same time, yeah…." Tails muttered, climbing onto the side railing for support.
"Not the wisest decision…" Crystal replied.
"We know.. Owie…" Luigi muttered. The crow cawed, scaring Luigi a bit. The crow perched itself on Crystal's shoulder, nuzzling into the side of her face.
"So, are you simply here to recuperate? I unfortunately don't have much access to healing magic here." Crystal asked.
"Kinda… really, I just kinda wanted to know just how many more ghosts we have to catch…"
"Hm…" Crystal hummed putting her finger on her chin, "Well, I can't tell you how many Boos there are, they seem to be everywhere. But they also shouldn't hold any bearing on the curse… Really there are only a few left from what I can tell."
Tails sighed, "Thank goodness…"
"Hmm… If my memory of the events prior to the King coming here is anything to go by… I would say you only have about- Oh… what's this?"
"What is it?" Tails asked.
"I... I believe I can see your beloved…"
Tails' eyes lit up looking at Crystal with awe. She could see her? She could really see her! Tails beamed out with a joy that had not been present for much of this accursed night, "Really?! Where is she?! WHERE IS SHE?!"
"She's-" Crystal's words were interrupted by the sudden shaking of her entire room. Books began rattling from their shelves, some of them even falling off. Tails and Luigi took notice, with Luigi holding on even tighter to the railing.
Crystal immediately took to the Crystal ball, trying to see what was causing such a disturbance in her room from the outside. It had to be a force that was capable of shaking things bent by space and time, considering how much bigger this room was on the inside rather than the outside. She saw something in her ball, something bright and colorful. It was magic... Star magic. Her eyes widened.
"Oh, no."
Before Tails could ask what it was, the answer presented itself, as the door flung wide open. A barrage of light emanates from a single entity, the hues of it's brightness encompassing the entire rainbow. If they were capable of seeing colors that did not exist in their eye spectrum, they could have seen it.
The entity caused papers to fly out of the books, creating a swirling tornado of raw energy. Wind blew from below at the sudden appearance of this near god-like entity. The crow did it's best to hang onto Crystal, and Crystal herself did her best to hold her place. Tails and Luigi oddly enough did not experience quite as much pressure as the rest of the room seemed to. That didn't stop either of them from being terrified of the sudden interruption.
The bright, multicolored entity immediately jumped from its place, passing the entire row of stairs as it placed its strange, pointed feet firmly on the railing. Tails and Luigi weren't able to recognize the entity, but they were able to recognize the strange power.
For Tails, it was reminiscent of Hyper Sonic, a form even beyond that of Super Sonic. He's only ever gone hyper once and that was back when they met Knuckles for the first time. Tails had no idea how truly powerful Hyper Sonic was, only that it surpassed Super Sonic, which was an impressive feat in it of itself. Luigi on the other hand, recognized it as a Power Star. Mario used them occasionally on his adventures, often giving him pure invincibility and increased abilities.
They both glanced over to Crystal, and saw something that surprised them greatly. Crystal was looking on in complete horror as she looked at the strange rainbow being, her skin paler than before. A heart appeared inside of her, as if she was struck by a flashlight, and it was beating at such a pace that could rival Sonic's. The crow was barely even there anymore, the only form of it left just being a faint fog surrounding a silver gemstone.
The being looked at the ghost that stood before it, with intent beyond the comprehendable abilities of anyone in this room. If they even knew a sliver of what went on in this being's mind, they surely would go mad. But that did not matter. What mattered is what it was doing now, and all three of them could clearly see. It brought out a strange weapon, glowing the same rainbow hue as the rest of it. It appeared to be some sort of strange tail, attached it it's back, with a very flat weapon tip, kind of like a very small, flat pickaxe. The being brought the head of the weapon to it's other hand, and aimed it right at Crystal, as if it were a shotgun about to kill Bambi's mother to ensure the plotline for Bambi for the PS2. Before the being took action, the light began dissipating, the beings nigh incomprehensible form finally showing itself to the group as the light died down. A being that looked alien to Crystal, but incredibly familiar to both Tails, and Luigi.
"Aw, yeah, Waluigi Time, motherfuckers!" Waluigi exclaimed, now holding a vacuum nozzle in Crystal's face. With the flip of a switch, the vacuum began sucking her in, at an incredible pace. The papers from the books began flying towards the suction of the poltergust on Waluigi's back, as well as Crystal. The magical ghost did her best to avoid the pull of the machine, flying as far away as she could. But it was too late. Her tail was caught by the device. She looked back down to see Waluigi's terrifying grin filled with malice, contempt, smug superiority, and a bit of lettuce stuck in his teeth from lunch. The purple man laughed maniacally, pulling Crystal in further and further.
Tails and Luigi were too awestruck to properly realize what was going on in this short period of time. Not to mention banged up from their previous fight. Neither of them were prepared for what they saw, or what they were even seeing now.
Crystal was doing her best to keep out of the skinny plumber-like man's grasp. But Waluigi wasn't having any of it. He decided to improvise a bit. He jerked the vacuum head, leading Crystal along with it. She was brought to the railing of the platform they were on, causing her to lose some of her focus at escaping. Waluigi jumped like a graceful ballerina to the table in the middle, flinging her up against the wall. She was far more stuck in the vacuum head now, her lower half now basically in it. But Waluigi was not done.
He began jerking the vacuum head all around, striking her into nearly everything he could. From the shelves to the railing, and even into the table occasionally. He looked beneath himself and saw the crystal ball, and got an idea for a sweet finisher move. He lifted Crystal up, who at this point was so tired that the upper half of her body was now sucked in, leaving only her neck and head out, and slammed her right into the crystal ball, shattering it. The entire room exploded in a force of magical light and smoke, surrounding the table they all were at, and obscuring everything else. Waluigi began sucking up not only Crystal, but the shards of the crystal ball and all of the smoke surrounding them. The surrounding events were breathtaking, as Tails and Luigi fell flat on their butts as the railing became smoke to be sucked up by the Poltergust.
Crystal's screams were the last thing they were able to hear from her as the smoke covered her head, pulling away from their surrounding area. The room they were left in was very different from before, just being a boring, unfurnished wooden room, with only a table in the middle and a door for them to leave. Waluigi stood on the table, with the grace of a swan, and the smug malice of one as well. Waluigi smiled a toothy grin as he lifted the poltergust in the air, triumphantly.
"Waluigi did it! Waluigi saved the day! No need to thank Waluigi for his valiant efforts, I accept cash money payments."
Luigi looked around the room in confusion. He supposed nearly everything in the room was magical, and Waluigi sucking up Crystal must've completely reverted everything in this room back to the way it was. He had no idea how magic really worked, but that made sense. He looked over to Tails, who absolutely did not look confused in the slightest.
Tails stared at Waluigi, wide eyes, his brow furrowed just a bit in complete rage. His teeth gritted together so hard that he could swear he felt them crack a bit. Crystal was just about to tell him where Cosmo was, they could've finally ended this nightmare, and now, thanks to Waluigi's eldritch seizure rush, they were back to square one. He stood up, completely ignoring every fiber of pain in his body and grabbed the table leg.
"YOU ABSOLUTE MORON!" Tails shouted as he lifted the table up by one leg, causing Waluigi to fall off.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, why you do this to Waluigi?"
"I'M GONNA KILL YOU, YOU MOTHER-"
"Hey-hey-hey, Waluigi already used the only instance of the F word we were allowed. Any more times and we gotta-" Waluigi could not continue explaining the rules of the rating system, as a table was thrown at him.
Cosmo walked herself out of the bathroom, now fully bandaged up around her abdomen. She clutched her stomach, wincing in pain. Speaking through gritted teeth, "Oh, man, this hurts so much… Why'd I have to be so thorough…?"
She had to still hold onto pieces of furniture to keep herself standing, but this was a lot better. Now she wasn't bleeding all over the floor. She was a bit surprised that her body was able to go for this long. But she supposed she couldn't complain.
She then heard a strange bump. Her eyes shot wide, looking around. Was it one of those damn ghosts? That wasn't good. She couldn't deal with them, not in her current state. And she couldn't see properly in the dark, so they had an advantage. However, her worries were replaced with new ones as she heard voices coming from up the stairs.
"STOP! YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE A GOOD GUY! NOT KILLING INNOCENT PEOPLE!" Said the nasally voice of a man that was clearly faking his italian accent
"YOU! ARE! NOT! INNOCENT!" Said a much more familiar voice to Cosmo's flower ears. In between each word, it sounded like a bit of a struggle, like he was trying to hit something. Just then, another yell was heard, as someone came rolling down the stairs, and onto the ground with a loud thud.
"AAAH!" Sounded a third voice, as they were flung down the stairs. After impacting the ground, he moaned out, "Oooh, mama mia."
"Look what you did! You hurt poor Luigi!" Said the nasally man.
"You were the one who threw him down there, you moron!"
"Name calling is not very nice, dog-man!"
"I.. I'm a-?! I'm a fox?!" The other voice replied, in a tone that was a very intense mixture of anger and confusion.
"I don't care, Waluigi never passed 5rd grade!" Waluigi responded, somehow managing to pronounce 5rd.
"COME HERE, YOU PIECE OF-"
"NO SWEARING IN THIS CHRISTIAN FANFICTION! JESUS WOULD SEND YOU TO HELL!" Waluigi said, citing blasphemy.
Just then, tumbling sounds were heard, as the two tumbled down the stairs at a breakneck pace, Waluigi clearly tackled by the other person, who was clearly Tails. The fox had managed to wrap his arms around Waluigi's slender form, trying to pin him in place. But Waluigi was as slippery as he was with the legal system and managed to escape the grasp of the fox, just like he escaped 500 hours of community service for lighting Santa Claus on fire at the mall. It would've been jail time had it not turned out that Eggman was secretly Santa trying to put tracking devices on everyone so he could do some sort of mind control based scheme on Christmas. But that didn't stop the fact that it was a hate crime on Waluigi's part, because he only ever got socks for Christmas.
Waluigi after escaping Tails' grasp, felt Luigi at his feet. He acted immediately, grabbing Luigi and chucking him across the room. The green plumber yelled as he hit the wall. Waluigi chuckled, before he felt Tails wrap around him again and start whirring his tails. Waluigi was lifted off the ground as Tasils tried to do something with him. The purple man kicked his legs.
"Take this!" Tails said as he began spinning around the room, getting enough momentum to throw him into the nearby wall. Waluigi smacked right into the wall like a pancake before sldigin down to the floor. The thunder boomed and lightning flashed, lighting up the room through the window.
Tails himself was very exhausted, yet could still fight. Luigi was only just now getting to his feet. And Waluigi was now laying on the ground, his face right against the wall, and his butt high in the air. The lightning went away for a few seconds before lighting up the room once more. Everything was the same except, Waluigi was no longer in tails' sight.
"Where did-?" Tails asked before he heard a vacuum cleaner sound whirr. He turned around to where his ears heard the sound, and saw Waluigi readying his pildergust to use against him. Which was an odd decision, since Tails couldn't be sucked up by it, since he was still of the living. And then Waluigi sucked up one of his namesakes.
"WAH!" Tails shouted as Waluigi lifted Tails up by his tail that was sucked into the vacuum, sending him into the floor. And doing it again, hitting him into a table. And into another table. And into the wall. And into the floor again. Waluigi's onslaught did not let up for a minute.
Luigi couldn't see much, until Waluigi clearly turned himself around, and he could see lights on the poltergust. Luigi blinked before realizing what he could do. He pulled out his own poltergust and aimed it right at Waluigi's back before turning it on. Suddenly, a huge gust of wind began to circulate around Waluigi. His backpack began to feel loose, form his back., before it was suddenly flung off, taking Tails along with turned around in confusion, seeing what he perceived as a deathly gaze of ice and coldness, until the lightning flashed and revealed it was just Luigi, with a terrified look on his face.
"Hey, give Waluigi that back! He was going to sequence break the entire story!" Waluigi said, walking up to Luigi, ready to fisticuff fight him. Luigi dropped the vacuum handle, letting Waluigi's poltergust go. Along with Tails, who was able to unhook his namesake from the nozzle of Waluigi's device. As Waluigi approached, swinging his arm in a circular motion, Tails grabbed the poltergust and spun around with it before letting it fly into Waluigi, sending him into the wall again.
Tails sighed angrily as he approached Waluigi, ready to hold him up by his suspenders. The flash of lightning illuminated most of the room, but kept most of tAils' face in the shadows, save for his very angry eyes that pierced Waluigi's soul. The purple man panicked, looking for the nearest thing he could use to shield himself. Not the poltergust, no, that wouldn't do the trick. It had to be something else. Out of the corner of his eye, and what was clearly out of Tails' he saw something he could use. Something that would display not only his resourcefulness in the face of adversity, but also showcase how upstanding his morals were.
"Waluigi is not above using a human shield!" Waluigi shouted at the top of his lungs as he pulled Cosmo out from behind him and held her out in front of him, Cosmo herself with a very confused look on her face.
Tails' eyes widened and his jaw dropped, ceasing in place, "C-... Cosmo!"
Tails rushed up to her and ripped her from Waluigi's hands, and spun around the room with her, Cosmo's face still looking rather cheered happily as he spun around with the love of his life, "Oh, Cosmo, thank goodness! I was so worried I'd never see you again!"
Tails quickly pulled Cosmo into a deep, passionate kiss. Tails gripped Cosmo by the back of her leafy-haired head, and pushed her back in as close as he could to deepen it. Luigi couldn't help but smile at the act of love.
Waluigi on the other hand only felt like he was walking in on an episode of "Soaps of our Days." Feeling like he was missing several plot points, almost as if he was nothing more than a comedy relief character set apart from the serious side of the story. Though, what really confused Wlauigi was what he saw in Comso's cerulean eyes. In her eyes, he saw nothing but a strange brand of disgust. Like if someone... Or if something... Maybe... Kinda like...
"Well, Narrator. Say it." Waluigi said smugly, the only comparisons he thought of being dirty and disgusting that would raise the rating of the story. Waluigi smiled.
"Can't do it, can you, Mr. Coward? It took you three years to end up writing this chapter, and it's probably going to be the last one, cause you're a piece of garbage who can't get their life together!" Waluigi said, trying to shame the narrator into ending the story early. But the author was resilient, and would not abandon this story.
"Sure you wouldn't! Whatever you say, Mr. Narrator man, you're totally not a piece of subhuman trash!" Waluigi formed from the deepest parts of his throat, as much spit as he could, and spit in the general direction he assumed the author was, only for it to fall right back on his face, because gravity dictated what must come up, must come down.
"...Okay, Waluigi will take the blame for that one."
Cosmo broke the kiss, catching her breath. She swallowed a bit, saying, "Wow, you must've… been worried sick about me, huh?"
"Yeah! Of course I have, what kind of a question is that?" Tails said, with a joyful smile. He looked down at her chest and noticed a lot of bandages on her, "Oh, no, Cosmo, what happened?"
Cosmo blinked for a moment, before looking down to where Tails was. "O-Oh, that's nothing. I just got hurt, and I was able to bandage myself up."
"That's not good. We should probably get you back to the lab." Luigi said, interrupting the reunion.
"That's a good idea, Luigi. Then we can come back in and take care of King Boo's plot without having to worry about Cosmo." Tails said, turning to Luigi. He got up on his feet and offered his hand to Cosmo. The seedrian looked at it for a moment before taking it.
"Y-yeah-I mean, yes… That is a good idea, Tw-" Cosmo coughed, lightly, "-...Tails."
Tails nodded, looking over to Luigi. The two sidekicks exchanged a happy glance to one another before it was rudely interrupted by Waluigi, coming between Tails and Cosmo.
"Hey, if you mean that outhouse out there that leads underground, you may want to follow Waluigi. He's been down there, and trust me, it is not a very good place to be if you don't know where you're going." The purple cladded man got up to his feet and brushed himself off, before feeling his way to the door. He managed to get to it and opened it wide.
"Come on, time is money. And because the author is dumb, there's no money in this mansion like in the games, Waluigi's checked.
Tails sighed, a mix of tired, yet happy. He held onto Cosmo's hand, leading her along with him. Luigi followed suit.
Cosmo let herself be guided by his hand, and before exiting the dark of the room, gave one knowing glare to the inside of the mansion. She nodded softly, knowing what was about to happen. With the knowledge of the fact that no one would see it, a small smirk gleamed on her face.
Specks was relaxing in a bean bag chair, his ghostly form manipulating the physical world like how most ghosts can. He sighed in relaxation while he waited for his brothers' Boofurd and Phantom to return. He didn't quite recall why it was that he had to stay behind, but his brain was empty and devoid of chemicals the living used to survive. All he remembered was one of his brothers telling him to stay behind while they went and looked for their enemy, whom of which, even he forgot the identity of right now.
"Oh, this is bad, Oh this is bad." Said a muffled voice from the other room. Specks pursed his lips and looked at the wall the voice was coming from. And as if on cue, Boofurd floated in, a panicked look on his face.
"Oh, hey, dude. Where's Fantom?" Specks asked, a tired smile on his face.
"Fantom's been captured, Specks!"
"Oh, that's nice." Specks replied, completely not chelauntly. Using telekinesis because he didn't have any hands, he lifted up a cup with some strange, green beverage in it and took a few sips. It was then that Fantom's words-along with caffeine-hit him hard. He jolted up and spat the drink in Boofurd's face. Or rather, through his face, ,as he was a ghost.
"WHAT?! WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE'S BEEN CAPTURED?!"
"You heard me, you sentient fart cloud! He's been captured! Green Cap and Two Tail caught him in the fight between Glacia and Ricky!" Boofurd replied, clutching his head, "Oh, this is bad, this is really really bad!"
"Hey, hey, hey, calm down now, let's think about this for a moment. Maybe if we just talk to them, they'll understand and let out Fantom?" Specks
"Because they can't understand us, Specks! They only hear, HAUNT HAUNT HAUNT, GAS GAS GAS-" Boofurd replied, before being interrupted by Specks, who screamed out-
"I'm gonna step on the Gas!"
This was met with a slap to the face of his brother. Boofurd put his hands on his temples, massaging them as he worried aloud, "Oh, no, oh, no, what are we gonna do?"
"I thought that that green hat guy could understand me after I phased through his head?" Specks asked.
Boofurd immediately stopped rubbing his temples, his eyes widening as he realized what Specks just said. He was right! Mr. Green hat finally started understanding them after Specks left some gas in his head! He immediately turned around and grabbed Specks' disembodied head and began spinning it around.
"SPECKS, YOU'RE A GENIUS!"
"I know, I got a degree from Harvard."
"All we gotta do is talk to Green Hat, and we can save the day!" Boofurd let go of Specks and began floating over to the window.
"We can show King Boo the real super power of teamwork!"
"And save our brother, and reunite Rose Bud and Two Tail, and beat the absolute snot out of-" Boofurd's words stopped cold in their tracks. His eyes widened as he saw something horrifying. Not in the traditional scary sense, but in the overall, You Know Something Is Bad But The Audience Doesn't™. His Irises shrank and his crooked lips pursed in disbelief.
"Oh, no…"
"And then we can leave, and then we can haunt Ice Cream shops!" Specks continued, not hearing his brother's change in tone. But he did notice when he didn't continue. He looked at him, concerned, and then peeked up and around him. And what he saw horrified him in the same way as his brother.
Outside, Tails, Luigi, Waluigi and Cosmo were walking out from the mansion. Cosmo was clutching her stomach, hunched over, with Tails helping her along.
"When we get you in E. Gadd's base you can rest there for the rest of the night, okay, Cosmo?" Tails said in a warm tone.
"O-Okay. But really, M-Tails, I'm fine…" She said, almost sounding as if she was forcing herself to sound as sweet as she could.
"Waluigi doesn't know about that. Waluigi thinks if you go to a medical hospital, you'll be labeled as a vegetable."
"You're…. Technically not wrong I think." Luigi replied, before stopping for a moment. He placed his finger on his chin, "Actually, would you be considered a vegetable, or a fruit?"
"I don't think Seedrians count as either, Luigi." Tails replied.
"Shows you. Waluigi knows for a fact that they are considered a vegetable. How else would Doctors be able to make that terrible joke?"
Boofurd, seeing the group leave the mansion, could only utter one phrase.
"We're doomed…"
