Hello guys! I'm back. I know it's been a while and I apologize that it took me so long to update again. I've been really busy with work (8-10 hours a day) and on top of that I was studying to be a constructor. I finally finished this summer. But the double burden was really hard at times.

Chapter 11:

They rushed into the ER. Rick was running around like a headless chicken, searching for a doctor.

He was so scared and panicked. After a minute he found a nurse and dragged her over to Kate. "Please, she's pregnant and she's been hit in the stomach. Someone needs to examine her and make sure she and the babies are alright!"

The nurse pulled out a clipboard "Please fill these out. I will take her into an examination room and call a doctor." With those words she rolled Kate, who was already sitting in a wheelchair, away.

Rick couldn't deal with paperwork right now and he probably doesn't even know everything about Kate to fill out these forms, so he called the only person he could think of in this situation. He had to call her anyway. "Mrs. Beckett, I'm really sorry… It was all my fault, but Kate, … she's in the hospital right now…."

Not even half an hour later both Becketts rushed through the doors to the ER. Rick had explained what had happened on the phone, but they were still worried. Sure, they weren't exactly happy, when Kate had told them she was pregnant at 17. But they had begun to except it and even started to look forward to being grandparents. Now it could all be taken away due to an accident.

They all sat together. Kates parents, Rick and the rest of Kates friends. Her parents filling out the paperwork, while the others waited anxiously for news from the doctor. Ricks leg was bobbing up and down. He was so nervous he couldn't stop it. If he hadn't fought with that idiot. If he hadn't be so stupid. If Kate lost those kids, he could never forgive himself. He was sure, it would be his fault.

Another twenty minutes later the doctor finally came through those double doors. "Family of Katherine Beckett?" He did a double take, when almost every person in the waiting room stood up. "Are you all with Ms. Beckett?"

"We are her parents." Explained Johanna, motioning between her and Jim "And those are Kates friends. They were with her when it happened and as you can imagine, they are all extremely worried."

"I'm Doctor Newman, hello. Of course, I can understand you're concerned. But I can't let this many people into her room. I would recommend only 2 or 3 people at a time. So maybe her parents and her boyfriend first? The others can go afterwards."

"That's okay with us." Lanie answered. "But, how is she? How are the babies?"

"Everything is alright. All three are healthy, but I would suggest she stays here for a few days so we can keep an eye on her just in case. Sometime, in cases like this, it happens that labor is induced early. And after she is released, she should definitely avoid stress." Doctor Newman explained.

"Uhm, her boyfriend is …. Ow!" Rick yelped as Lanie stomped on his foot.

"Rick is her boyfriend. He's just blaming himself right now, because he thinks everything that happened to Kate today is his fault." Lanie told the doctor. She leaned over to whisper in Ricks ear "Just play along. Everyone can see how worried you are about her. And among all of us you are her best friend and you are completely smitten." She grinned as she said those last words.

"How did you...?" Rick was puzzled. He thought he had hidden his feelings pretty well.

"Figure it out?" Lanie finished for him "Oh please! It's written all over your face. It's a miracle Kate hasn't figured it out by now."

"Uhm, actually she already has." Rick sad sheepishly and scratched his head.

"I hate to interrupted you guys" Johanna started "But if you wanna join us Rick, you two need to discuss this another time."

"Sure, sure… I'm sorry. I'm coming." Rick apologized and followed Johanna, Jim and Doctor Newman to Kates room.

There she was. Lying in this bed, eyes closed, as if she was asleep. But even though her hair was tousled and she was wearing a hospital gown, she was still the most beautiful girl he had seen. He didn't know how he had never noticed bevor, but since the end of his relationship with Kyra he started to see how extraordinary she truly was. He was sure he was falling in love with her fast and hard. And even if she would never reciprocate his feelings, he would try to be there for her and her kids as long and as much as she wanted him to.

As they approached the bed she turned around and looked at them. When she saw who it was, she smiled. "Hey mom, dad. I'm glad you're here." She looked beyond her parents "Rick" her smiled softened "You don't have to hide. It's not your fault."

"If I just went away instead of fighting with that knucklehead you wouldn't have been hurt." He responded, looking down sad.

"You just stood up for me, when this guy wouldn't take no for an answer and insulted me. So, thank you Rick. And I'm fine. We all are." She said while rubbing her belly. He still looked a little bit unsure, but was relieved to see her. She looked fine and if she told him everything was okay, then he believed her. "So, they said I need to stay for a few days before they can release me. It's gonna be so boring." She groaned and rolled her eyes, trying to lighten the mood. It worked. Rick grinned at her antics and her parents shook their heads.

"You'll survive." Her mother said "I can bring you one of my books to occupy you if want to?"

"One of your law books? No thanks mom." came her reply. She knew exactly which books her mother meant, but it was just too much fun playing dumb.

"Couldn't hurt sometimes. Maybe we could have avoided some of those rebellious streaks." Her mother teased back, gaining a glare. "But no, I was actually talking about my murder mystery books. Patterson for example?"

"Sure, I like this genre. Although I'm not really sure if it's the best to read to my babies. Maybe some other books would be more appropriate?" Kate wasn't really sure how much she was connected to her kids and how much they could hear right now. She wanted to do everything to support them. Maybe some people found it foolish, because they weren't even born yet, but she believed what she did and didn't do while she was pregnant still had an impact on the children.

"I think if you don't read those books aloud it should be fine. They can't read your thoughts" Her mother smiled.

"Okay. You've been through this once before, so I trust you on this one. But if you find one of my old children's books, could you bring it with you? I could read it before I go to bed." She blushed a little.

"I'll see what I can find." Her mother bend down to brush back her hair and give her a kiss on the forehead.

Then her father bend down and did the same "I'm glad you three are all right, Katie" he told her "I'll smuggle a few chocolate bars into the hospital for you" he whispered into her ear.

Kate grinned from ear to ear "Thanks dad. Thanks mom. I love you both."

The four of them kept talking for a bit longer before they had to go. They hugged goodbye and left her with the promise of coming back soon to bring her some stuff.

Outside her room in the waiting area, they found the rest of Kates friends still waiting. It had been over an hour since they left them there. They had actually expected them to be gone by now.

"Hey! There you are. How is she?" Lanie asked first.

"She is fine." Johanna answered first. "And the babies are too. You can go in now and talk to her yourself if you want to?"

"Of course, I do. Who is coming with me?" She asked around. Since they were still five people they couldn't go in all together, so they had to split in two groups. So, they decided that Lanie, Javier and Maddie would go next and Jenny and Ryan would be the last to visit her. Javier promised they wouldn't take as long as the first group. He was grinning at Rick and Kates parents. It was supposed to be a joke, but they didn't get it and started to apologized, for they should have been more considerate and thought of all the other people still waiting outside for their turn.

Now Javier started to apologize, because he didn't wanna embarrass those three. Obviously, he needed to work on his jokes.

After everything was clarified Rick hugged his friends and left with the Becketts, who had also said goodbye to everyone.

This day had started out really good. They went all to the beach and were having fun and one stupid mistake had ruined it all. He would definitely make sure Kate wasn't in the least bit of stress for the rest of her pregnancy. He would go back home and start making a plan.

If you got a minute, I would really enjoy a review. I hope this chapter isn't too shabby? I'm a little out of touch with writing, because it has been so long since I've written anything…
