Maggie was both in love and somewhat frustrated with exhausted Alex.
Because of the nature of her job there were times that Alex would be dead on her feet when she returned home. When they first started dating she had wondered why Alex owned a king-sized bed. It just seemed an odd choice for a single woman but she quickly understood why she went with the king size and that had everything to do with exhausted Alex.
The first time she experienced exhausted Alex, she had come over to her apartment because she had offered to bring dinner over when Alex had been working practically non-stop for nearly 36 hours. She had let herself in, calling out Alex's name and getting no response.
She found Alex face down on the bed, lying across it as if she couldn't be bothered to actually get into it properly. She hadn't even changed clothes or bothered with a pillow. Maggie didn't want to disturb her so she left her as she was and hung out watching tv for a while in case Alex woke and wanted to eat – she didn't wake. Maggie ended up leaving her a note to say food was in the fridge.
It was a couple of more times before Maggie noticed the pattern that when exhausted Alex was sleeping she never slept in the bed regularly. She was always sprawled out on it, usually taking up much of the space by lying length-wise or diagonally. There were times her feet or an arm would be dangling off an edge. Occasionally, she would merely be curled up in the dead center.
It always varied if she managed to change clothes. Sometimes she was fully clothed and Maggie would at least take off her shoes. Other times she would be in various states of undress like she couldn't be bothered to complete the process.
All in all, Maggie found it to be very cute.
That was until they had moved in together. She still found it cute, but there was a level of frustration too because every time exhausted Alex showed up there was little or in some cases no room for Maggie to sleep comfortably on the bed with her. Maggie would try to find a spot on the bed but somehow Alex made it near impossible.
Most times Maggie found herself relegated to the couch – not something she liked doing.
So every time she encountered exhausted Alex, Maggie would stand there thinking she should just wake her, get her to move and then she would join her bed. But every time Maggie would see how deeply she was sleeping, think about how cute she looked even when she drooled – something Alex denied doing – and she would simply turn around and go out to the couch.
