Todd walked up to the two of them, put an arm around each, and pecked them both on the cheek. X-23 barely caught him. "You're too accustomed to not using your powers in school. And you know how to interact with Rogue." X-23 turned to the other girl. "What are you smiling at?"
"His good news.", Rogue answered with her gloved fingertips still touching her cheek.
Todd shook his head to clear it. A jaundiced Rogue with eyes swimming in lemonade instead of milky white filled his vision. He shook his head again and X-23 appeared normal. Rogue still looked like she was under a filter and then the thought occurred to him. Rogue sighed and popped open a compact make-up mirror. Todd looked upon himself in normal colors for the first time. He wasn't the next teenage heart throb but he was forced to admit that his mutation had...previously limited his options. As he felt his strength returning he realized he could find out how tall he was 'supposed' to be. Rogue put away the compact, "If you feel strong enough to stand on your own, yo..."
"Then I'm back to normal enough be me and not without my powers.", Todd realized. Rogue clicked her tongue and winked.
Then he had another thought. "Oh, I'm sorry.", he directed to X-23.
The girl smiled. "You aren't that heavy. For me, at least."
"I meant...for giving up my smell."
Her smile got a bit more strained. "Oh. That. Well..." X-23 looked to Rogue, then back to Todd, then to Rogue shrugging. "Okay! But it wasn't that bad and it was only for a moment. And your clothes covered it up." Todd gave a look to Rogue, who rolled her eyes. She turned from the two and looked down both directions of the hall they were in. Todd didn't seem to move but X-23 smiled without restraint. She dug her nose into his shoulder and inhaled deeply.
"Ya'll done?", Rogue asked after playing lookout.
"Are you going to tell the good news to us who aren't psionic?", X-23 prompted.
Todd slapped himself on the forehead. "Oh, right. I got a scholarship."
Rogue and X-23 both raised an eyebrow. "Look, shug. We're still your girlfriends and all, but..."
"You don't warrant a scholarship from your scholastics. Did whoever tell you this mention your powers? Or that they had you under surveillance?"
Todd raised his eyebrows. "How did you know?"
X-23 gripped his arm and he now knew how strong she could be if she wanted to. "I'm not letting Hydra take you."
"Who is some Hydra?", Todd asked.
His girlfriend paused. "We need to move this conversation to somewhere actually private. *sniff* Come."
Rogue hurried to keep up as her boyfriend was dragged away. "Okay. Who exactly told you this? Who gave you the offer?"
The other girl raised a finger. She stopped in front of one of the class rooms, then dragged Todd in. "Lock the door.", she commanded Rogue. Rogue worked the door when she continued, "With a chair." Rogue turned to her again. X-23 closed the blinds in the classroom, pressed her back to the whiteboard, and *snikt*
Rogue dragged a chair to brace the door.
X-23 carefully reached out for a meter stick and pushed a generic hanging clock off the wall. It fell into her hands and she used her claws to pop out a small camera from the clock.
"There's an organization spying on us?". Rogue was shocked.
"No.", X-23 shook her head. "These are just principal Kelly's. Which means we have about an hour before we're discovered. He's not an agent, just a bigot, and has to perform his job as well as hate us."
"What's going on?", Todd insisted.
"I suspect that the same organization that cloned me is using you in one of their plots.", X-23 stated.
Todd blinked. "You're a clone? That's even possible?"
X-23 looked to Rogue. Remembering their times together, Rogue face palmed.
"Of who?", Todd continued.
Rogue looked up in genuine surprise. X-23 tapped her adimantinum claws against her adimantinum skull only for the small cut to instantly heal and not drip blood into her supersensitive eyes.
"Well?", Todd demanded.
X-23 sighed. "Wolverine."
Todd took a step back. "Oh..." then took another step back "ooh..." and another "But that means!"
Rogue was rubbing her temples as this point. "Males typically have an X and a Y chromosone, whereas females typically are dual X. Hydra managed to modify Wolverine's single X to serve as both of pair 23, due to their healing factor."
"Pairs?", Todd asked. "But wouldn't all girls be twice as powerful if they had two X genes?"
The girls folded their arms. "Who offered you this scholarship?", Rogue asked.
Todd shrugged. "She said her name was Emma Frost."
Rogue turned to X-23. The other girl shrugged.
"Can you tell us what she looked like?", Rogue asked.
"She was smoking hot.", Todd nearly drooled. Then he realized. "I mean, uh, not as pretty as both of you."
"Hair color, Todd.", Rogue stressed. "Eye color? Ethnicity? Height?"
"Oh.", the boy understood. "Well, she was..." He stopped in mid-recollection. "She had... Well she must've...been..."
"But she was sexy?", Rogue asked.
"Like totally stoopid sexy.", Todd said, then promptly slapped his hands over his mouth.
Rogue nodded to X-23. "Right. Hold him."
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean it.", Todd pleaded.
Rogue sighed. "Hold him up, so I can kiss the memory out of him. Because I think someone's messed with your brain."
"Oh.", Todd understood.
X-23 wrapped her arms around him from behind and Rogue grabbed his face. She kissed him like it was judo throw and it hit him like a ton of bricks. Nearly instantly his head was lolling about.
Rogue sat down to think. "Do you want a chair?", X-23 asked. Rogue noticed she had adopted Todd's signature squat and shook her head.
The girl tried to focus on her new memories. Todd moving Fred out of the way just before meeting...someone. His hurry to get to his room to talk to...the person? Being offered the ability to take care of whoever he wanted and his thoughts instantly coming to Rogue and X-23. She shook her head. By who? Todd was offered a scholarship on the condition he improved his grades. Rogue tried again. Todd was in his room when he was offered the scholarship. She let out a breath. "Fine." Todd was right, the woman was sexy. Even she was impressed.
"So what did she look like?", X-23 asked.
"Really hot.", Rogue replied. "I mean, if we weren't dating Todd..."
X-23 glared at her.
"Oh yeah. Shug's had his mind flipped upside down. But only her identity. Everything else he was telling us is true...or at least happened.", she answered. "They're supposed to meet and finalize what this scholarship means after he talks to us about it."
"Why us?", the other girl asked.
Rogue smiled. "We're who he cares about."
