*The Next Morning*
Before I knew it, it was half five in the morning before Jacob returned back to the cottage. When his eyes landed on me and Edward sitting reading by the fire as we cuddled together he told us that Sam was continuing to oversea the patrols as he wanted to return back her so he was with Renesmee. We then told him that she had been tossing and turning all night; but she hadn't been to sleep for very long. He nodded at this and said that he was going to go straight to bed as he didn't want to disturb her.
Me and Edward then talked about something that we both had obviously been putting off for most of the night; the fact that he wanted me to stay away from the fight and stay with Renesmee. I let him tell me why he thought that that was the right thing to do; he wanted to protect his family. I told him that I understood this; but I wanted the same. I couldn't bear anything happening to either one of my family, more so Edward and Renesmee. I then told him that we both needed to make these decisions; together. Thankfully he agreed with me, he said that Alice's vision drove him to think that he had to keep me away from the fight. He added that he knew that this was wrong, but he just wanted to keep me safe. I understood this and as I pulled my husband into a tight embrace; as we fell into a silence a thought then came to me - I hoped that this situation was going to pass quick! I hated the anguish and uncertainty that it was currently causing consuming my family - and I would do everything and anything to help save them.
I didn't know how long me and Edward had been hugging in silence like this, but before I knew it Renesmee was walking into the living room. When my eyes landed onto her I noticed that the morning day light was now coming through a slight break in the black satin curtains.
She asked if we knew how Jacob was; and as we untangled ourselves from each other I told her that we was sleeping in his room. I watched as her face lit up at this. She then slowly span around and started to walk in the direction of his room; I told her that he hadn't been in bed long and she nodded at this as she stood at the doorway looking at him. I couldn't help but see a half smile spread across her face as she watched him sleep before walking into his room; I guessed that she wanted to lie with him until he woke up. Yes I knew that part of me should have been worried at the fact that she was climbing into his bed; but I knew that we could trust Jacob. I knew that sex was off the cards at the moment; as I knew that as their relationship had just moved into boyfriend and girlfriend status not so long ago, they were just getting to know each other in that way.
Me and Edward then agreed that when Jacob had had enough sleep the four of us then would return back to our family, as we needed to start talking about other plans that we were going to need to put in place. This this reminded me of the arrangements that I had made last time; I didn't even want to think about making similar plans! I didn't want to! But I knew deep down that if it came to it I would repeat my actions - anything to keep my perfect daughter safe.
Shortly after joining the rest of our family Edward went into Carlisle's office with Carlisle, Jasper and Emmett to discuss what options and strategies that we had available. As they were doing this the rest of us were sitting chatting amongst ourselves chatting in the living room; even though we were together there was still quite a sombre feeling in the room. Thankfully I wasn't able to sit and dwell in this too much; as when the room fell into silence for a few moments, Jacob broke the silence.
"Do you want to go for a walk?" he asked as he looked at me and Renesmee. "Don't worry-" he stated. "We'll stay close" he promised.
"Of course" I smiled. "Did you hear that Edward?" I called out.
"Yes" I heard my husband answer, which caused a smile to spread across my face.
"Let's go!" Renesmee exclaimed as she got to her feet.
"Yeah" I added as me and Jacob stood up.
"It will be nice to get some fresh air" he answered. "Where I am not constantly looking over my shoulder" he smiled.
"Jacob really!" I teased. "Chance would be a fine thing!" I joked further as we all smiled at the rest of our family as we started to make our way out of the house. As I left the house I couldn't help but sigh in relief; yes we were still in this stressful situation. But it was nice to take a few moments away from it; even if it was for only a little while - which was what I needed right now to help contend with the wave of thoughts that was currently consuming me.
"So-" Jacob started as we began to wallk around the grounds around the Cullen residence.
"Yes?" I replied.
"Do you know what strategy that the others are talking about?" he questioned.
"Getting me on my own to find our secrets out?" I chuckled. "I thought we had gone past that?" I winked at him, causing Renesmee to chuckle.
"Of course" he teased back. "I was just wondering that's all" he shrugged.
"Ok" I nodded. "Since it's you" I smiled. "Pack leader" I added and I watched as Jacob pulled a funny face which caused both me and Renesmee to laugh at this. I know there was still part of Jacob that didn't really want to take the role as pack leader; but it was his birth right. He hadn't told me this; but I knew Jacob well enough to know why he had taken back his birth right - to ensure Renesmee's safety. "Like we said before-" I started. "Carlisle wants to try and deal with this peacefully" I advised.
"Is he annoyed that we ran after her?" he questioned.
"No" I quickly added. "Of course not, he understands why you reacted the way you did" I advised. "Given your history with our kind" I finished and I pulled one brow up in confusion when Jacob started chuckling. "What?" I questioned.
"Even after all this time-" he replied. "It's sounds weird to hear you say that" he advised.
"Well" I meekly smiled. "This is my kind now" I added. "Anyway-" I continued. "Carlisle wants to try and get close enough to Jane to be able to talk to her, then Edward can try and see what is on her mind" I explained.
"I see" he noted. "So where do the packs come into this?" he enquired, and I could tell by the tone of his voice he was unsure about what Carlisle was trying to do. "Carlisle surely knows that if Jane returns then we are going to be there?" he questioned.
"Yes" I nodded. "He is very aware of that; I think he wants to speak to you and Sam" I added. "Ask you to not go onto the attack" I continued. "Unless necessary" I finished.
"I can just imagine Sam's response" Jacob advised.
"I know" I sighed. "But that is between you three" I stated.
"True" he agreed.
"Can we talk about something else?" Renesmee whined.
"Of course" I answered. "What would you suggest?" I enquired.
"Anything" she replied. "Anything apart from this whole sorry mess" she added. I went to open my mouth to speak but I froze when I heard a dark and chilling voice.
"You would like that, wouldn't you?"
The three of us then turned around to see Jane stood above us in a tree, when our eyes met I watched as a smug half smile spread across her face before she jump down so she was on the ground a short distance away from us.
"Jane!" I exclaimed. "What are you doing here?" I implored. Instead of answering me she took one step forward as she smugly smirked at us. I really didn't know how to feel about this situation! Jane was far too close for comfort now, and even though we were only a short distance away from the others I still felt like we were at such a great risk. I didn't know what was about to happen - but I knew for a fine fact, I probably wasn't going to like it.
