Summary:

One-shot, one kill. These words are associated with trained snipers all over the world.

In reality, I am one of them and the training I had since childhood made me who I am as a sniper when I first tried to shoot a safe gun designed for target shooting for people all ages at the age of 6.

The interesting game, Infinite Dendrogram? I am one too there, they don't even know my face because of that mask I wore.

Unlike the 'inferior' quality snipers in that game who failed to take down a moving target when I observed them with my scope at that time, I showed them, including the Infinite Dendrogram community, what a real one with real-life training, in the words of gamers, a pro, can do.

Seriously though, at one time in my Infinite Dendrogram life around the time I started playing, there's this group who asked me such a question of why I am able to grasp it and what's the secret.

I teasingly gave them a reply: "Family tradition dating back to the American Revolutionary War, all thanks to my ancestor who recreated and kept the written accounts that'll later become known as sniping today. Now, now, everything's classified if you ask what kind of training I've been through including real life."

Volume 1 - Childhood

Stopping First In Japan Before Family Reunion At The Philippines – Cultivating New Bonds

'That injured Japanese representative...I can't believe he won the pankration tournament.' While watching Dad buying ice cream from the stall as we wait for him by sitting on the bench, my thoughts went to one of the Japanese representatives who brought Japan a victory when we watched the tourney for the purpose of me understanding martial arts in action by practitioners, not by military use.

The injured Japanese rep, whose whole name I couldn't remember, when he fought against the UK representative, he was somehow like Dad when doing his "maintaining his form" exercises and training, and because of the vibe I sensed from that nii-san.

But still, for me, I believe Dad's the best because he looked after me in training including the 20 minute morning jog at this same park playground. I haven't seen what Granduncle Ferdi could do with his pair of Philippine Marine Saber and khali. But knowing my 'circumstances', it's obvious I'll be bound to learn those tricks which I repeated mentally noted for myself at what they planned for me, "to use it for self-defense", "to use it for harmless hobby", and "to live up to the MacMillan name and reputation of prominent military dynasty".

"Thinking about the tourney, Caesar?" asked Mom who snapped me out of my thoughts.

"Yes, Mom." I replied to her. "It's that onii-san earlier...why was he able to win with his injuries present?"

When I asked Mom, I looked at her who now had a thoughtful look and smiled at Dad who arrived with three ice cream cones in his grasps as he gave the vanilla flavored ice cream to me, and the matcha one to Mom.

"Anak," said Mom. "Back in my days as Ashton student when I was an honorary member of Manga Club and member of Music Club, my 'special height' -"

"Don't you mean being a legal loli, Theresa?" jokingly interrupted Dad.

'At least I got to see Dad loving Mom and lighting up the day.' Smiling a bit at Dad's joke related to Mom, I saw Mom pouted at Dad as I heard she playfully said back to Dad, "Dear, please stop it or no cuddles later."

"Yes, Dear." Dad replied with a knowing grin.

Mom resumed. "Okay, Caesar..with my 'unique height' handicap, there are things that I cannot reach and sort restricted me in a way that piano I used for Music Club adjusted for me. But that's not all. Like all soldiers who served in combat including your late great grandfather Kyle, it's all by turning the impossible into possible."

"Turning the impossible into possible?" I asked, confused. "What does it have to do with things like life?"

Dad ruffled my hair. "Caesar, snipers and strategists make those impossible into possible. It's only through willpower, taking the opportunity, courage and wits makes impossible into possible. Think of it like catching anyone who had doubts including competitors off-guard."

"I see." I said as I licked the ice cream and savoring it. "Turning the impossible, huh? That's a nice ring."

As I finished what I said as I looked at the kids around my age playing at the playground ahead of our direction, a burst of pink sakura blossoms suddenly flew over and covered the scene in front of us.

Today was the day to visit Alice's friends who currently resided at this house right in front of us for their stay in this country renowned as Land of Rising Sun.

That house, according to Mom, belonged to a friend of her's when Mom, a Grade 8 student at that time, used to compete in International School Music Competition.

The 'hybrid' house itself looked like a typical Japanese ones I read doused with Western architecture including the gate likes the ones at [Lionswill]. Its roof, I could say it's familiar to me but I'm with confidence to label it with "that roof I saw is similar to "My Life As A Crown Prince In Another World", "Just Because Polygamy Is Legal In This World Does Not Mean I Am A Harem-Seeking Type Of Guy". "Me To Have Harem To Become The World's Peerless Because My Destined Bride Is A Literal Beautiful Goddess? Yes Please!" and other isekai stories that had feudal Nihon-like country".

'First time meeting them in person, huh? That's some nice summer for me.' I thought to myself and the events from meeting Alice to myself learning skills and knowledge as per our family's long tradition while our party outside the gate wait for a response inside.

The day before, yesterday, it was all for today's preparation for this fated day and for my friends back in Britain once we get back there after the family reunion at Bangsamoroand some stuff at the Philippines. Mom had those today's surprises stored inside my bag where my cellphone and a copy of light novel within.

"Feeling nervous, Caesar?" asked Dad.

I nodded, confirming the feeling called nervousness.

"Don't worry, they're our old friends." Dad smiled as he turned his gaze to Mom. "Your mother knows them the best, am I right, Dear?"

"Yep." replied Mom with her grin who I swore there's fire burning beneath her eyes when she said that.

The door then opened.

The one behind it was smiling white-haired British woman wearing a shirt that had a perfectly printed face of well-respected figure and his quote "If you do not know history, you think short term. If you know history, you think medium and long term.", and jeans.

"Theresa!" the woman hugged Mom. "It's nice to see you again!"

"Thanks Elsie." Mom said, hugging back the woman."Is Leonara there?"

"Yep, she's at the kitchen right now. Her twin daughters should be with Arin-chan and Irina-chan talking stuff." the Brit woman replied.

Mom smiled. "Arisa-chan, huh? I am sure your daughter and her cousins will be happy with my Caesar here. He knows other languages besides Nihongo such as Russian."

"Hai, it's like what you shown me then. Irina-chan will be happy to know she has someone to speak in Russian..lately she's excited for some reason." excitedly said Aunt Elsie in mixed English and Nihongo as the gaze of her sky blue eyes landed on me as I saw her smiling at me. "Hello Caesar, it's nice to see you in person. How are you recently in your studies?"

"I'm doing fine, Aunt Elsie." I shyly replied. "They're preparing me for skipping grades...and I'll be taking online classes with it."

"That sounds great! Do your best so you can make your parents proud." said Aunt Elsie with her smile and wink as she grasped my right hand to guide me to her residence. "Now with the party gathered, let us now enter the dungeon - the Minase Residence."

With us inside the 'dungeon' after removing shoes and placing them on the side corners as it was widely practiced here in Japan and in my house back in Britain, I became the first person of our 'party' to step foot into the 'pathways' of this 'dungeon' as I saw four girls looking at our direction after entering the family room.

"Caesar-kun," said Aunt Elsie who was behind and supporting me. "The girl sitting on the tatami mat on our left is my daughter, Arin-chan."

Following what Aunt Elsie said, the subject in question waved at me with a friendly smile which I waved back as I had gotten a small look on Arin - she had a white hair and sky blue eyes like her mom.

'Wow, she definitely has a nice lovely pair of eyes' Smiling a bit at Arin as a way to say "let's talk and if possible and okay with you, let's be friends", I noticed Arin's face turned red(?) which I swear my older companions in a form of my father and mother smiling for reason as Aunt Elsie looked at her daughter and smiled.

'It's like my recent friends again..I still don't understand this.' Mentally sighing at my lack of knowledge, I looked at Arin once more who now somewhat became shy at my gaze while the other three girls looked at her then back to me with curious gazes especially the third girl.

'This tells me I need to be prepared for someone that type.' The third girl, the brown haired with matching eyes, she seemed to be excited as I saw what appeared to be an airsoft variant of a hybrid AR/AK DMR near her position at the table. Her body language, she was somewhat like wanting to have chat with me sooner while the first and second girl, a pair of twins like Bernie and Caro, they're curious about me I think.

Aunt Elise continued with her smile. "Ah, I forgot to tell you about Arin when we last chatted. Her real name is Arisa."

'She's Arisa, huh? I think her name suits her and since she's older than me, I'll go with-' Approaching Arin with that in mind, I introduced myself to her using a familiar language. "Hello Arisa-nee, I'm Caesar. I came from Britain and learned Nihongo from my school. This summer break I never got a chance to speak Japanese with anyone here except my parents and my schoolmates. It's my second time here in Japan, nice to meet you and hope we get along."

"N-nice to meet you too, Caesar-kun." said Arisa with a smile. "Say, what's your impression in learning our language? Oh and please call me by my nickname, Arin. My friends, cousins and relatives call me that. For you, Caesar, I request to call me without honorifics."

"Hai, Arin." I said, accepting her request which in turn like before back in Britain, caught a redder Arin for reasons unknown. "The language, Nihongo, for me, I can say it's slightly difficult at first because from where I came from, we mostly conversed English and sometimes, other languages and dialects. If not for my hometown being multicultural and having articles and medias in Japanese, I believe it'll be hard especially singing a fast paced songs."

"Wow." said Arin. "Can you please tell more about your hometown, Caesar?"

"Well—" Pausing the initiation of introducing Lionswill to the girls here, I looked up for a moment and saw the adults smiling at the fun we're having with some of them holding their cellphone directed at us.

'Stolen shots...oh well.' Not bothered by it, I looked at the other three girls first before asking Arin about their names that led to her sort of embarrassed including me because of being caught up in a conversation.

"A-ah, I forgot to introduce them. I am sorry.. Gomenasai, Irina-chan, Shizu-chan, Aika-chan. I did not mean to take up too much time."

"Me too, I did not meant it." I added, feeling guilty about being caught up and ignoring others.

The black haired girl smiled. "..it's partly our fault too."

"Hai, I'm with Shizu-nee."

"Me too."

Looking at the three girls, a new idea came to me as I suggested to the girls a sort of redo while at the same time noticing the adults excusing themselves to the kitchen. "How 'bout reintroducing ourselves one more time? Names, likes, hobbies, and dreams..something like that."

The girls looked at each other and nodded in agreement.

"I'll go first." said the black-haired girl. "I'm Minase Shizuku, older twin sister of Aika, cousin to Arin-nee, and first cousin to Irina-chan. I heard about you from Alice, Bernie, Caro, and Bea-nee... C-caesar, please call me "Shizu" similar to what you did to Arin-nee."

"As you wish, Shizu." I happily said to Shizu who I thought for a second looked redder like her cousin as I got a closer look of her emerald green eyes.

'Sigh, whatever happens to us in the future, I'll take this thing from a novel called "taking responsibility" to action. I am not sure what that is but I'll take responsibility.' Nodding my head at Shizu to continue, she did so.

"M-my hobbies are kendo sparring with Arin-nee and Aika-chan, reading knowledgeable books, and training. My likes are my family, friends, factual books, food, and everything related to kendo. My dreams for the future..I don't think I have one yet."

'Huh, what's with her and her green eyes looking at me with a determined feeling and resolve? Haiz, maybe I should ask Mom about the light novels she made me to read including the harem one once we get a private space.' I thought, thinking about the fictional stories that Mom gave me. That said particular day after meeting Alice and Bea and her sisters, I had no idea why Mom had what I thought to be a fire in her eyes like this green spandex wearing taijutsu specialist shinobi character from Tales of Gutsy Ninja anime. It was unrealistic but I literally saw it that time. It's very weird.

"I'm next~" said the white-haired girl who I figured Aika which I thought to be so. "My name is Aika. My hobbies are reading story books written in English, training, and hanging out with my friends and family. I like kendo sparring with Arin-nee and Shizu-nee, food, spending time with Irina-chan and Arin-nee...it's almost the same as Shizu-nee's hehehe~"

'Did she just hehehe in English?' Not knowing what to do with Aika's antics, I continued listening the last part of her introduction.

"My dreams..I don't know.."

'I understand, not everyone here has a set of goals and mentality as me.' Acknowledging it, I reminded myself to be patient and see any changes someday.

"Maybe perhaps becoming friends with Caesar? We can hang out together in Britain.."

"That's a wonderful idea, Aika." I complimented Aika. "Let's make it reality. Let's be friends together with everyone."

As I said that, Aika shyly smiled at me while her older sister, Shizu, and her cousin, Arin, looked at her other relative, the brown haired girl who I thought to be the owner of airsoft variant of hybrid AR/AK DMR.

"My turn." excitedly said the brown haired girl as I noticed her being pumped up surprisingly."My name is Irina Vorobyeva, first cousin to Arin-nee, Shizu-nee and Aika-nee, and cousin to Alice-nee. My-"

"Pardon me, Irina-chan." I gently interjected Irina. "Did you say you're Alice's cousin? The Alice I know is Alice Price from Britain."

The Russian(?) girl smiled. "Yes, I also see her as my big sister figure."

"Cool." I happily commented. "I know that same kind of feeling too. I'm the same age as her by the way...so feel address me whichever you like."

"Hai, Caesar-nii."

'Caesar-nii, huh? I'll live with that.' Similar to the gesture I gave to Shizu earlier, Irina did hers as I listened attentively.

"Besides being a Russian, I also have Japanese and British blood."

'Oh, that's some combination. She's somewhat like me '

"My hobbies are reading articles about AK, its technology and its variations, hanging out with my friends and family, and exercising. I am not much of kendo unlike Aika-nee, Arin-nee. and Shizu-nee sadly but I do watch them spar occasionally."

'At least it's good to spend time with family because they're herefor you in the end. People should do it...not keeping the problems and troubles they had to themselves.'

"My likes are AK, my family, and my friends. My dreams are to fire a real AK when I grow up, to educate anyone about AK, and -" Huh? Why did Irina paused that part and looking at me like she was embarrassed? Turning my head to the girls, whom I will call [The Minase Cousins],they each bore a various expressions and reactions.

Arin/Arisa was smiling.

Shizu/Shizuku looked like she was about to say a word while hiding her smile under the guise of composure unlike her younger sister, Aika who had it way different.

Aika, looked like she was about to smile as her sky blue colored eyes looked at Irina and the airsoft gun back and forth.

I didn't know what's the deal about Irina. But I recalled Alice sent a picture of us together to them online. The pic itself was me holding an airsoft version of FB Beryl. The Polish Beryl itself definitely resembled an AK except it's "an AK and not AK at the same time". Was it embarrassing for that hybrid Russian about it in her mind?

"...to learn target shooting under Caesar-nii's tutelage." Irina's face when said that was red but her body language spoke how determined she was about learning target shooting. For myself, I did not saw myself that good because there were other seasoned marksmen out there such as my father, Granduncle Ferdi, one of my role models my late great grandfather Kyle MacMillan, and others. The 'very harmless to anyone' target shooting gun was only a learning tool for my age group interested in trying out target shooting compared to the real deal, the real steel versions of it because 'real steel' showed reality.

'But still if Irina wants to know target shooting and get good with it besides using those harmless target shooting guns, I believe I have to be with her whenever she needed a pointers including from Dad.' With that in mind, I asked Irina a question. "Irina-chan, have you fired your airsoft gun once?"

"I did, Caesar-nii. My aim at the target was off for my first time." replied Irina.

"I see." I said. "Target shooting require skills and technique to get it, Irina-chan. While airsoft guns can be similar to the real ones as sort of weapon manipulation and familiarization tool, I believe you should start with the other type gun I used when me and Alice started target shooting. I mean there is nothing wrong with airsoft gun but the type we used is less costly compared to the total amount of airsoft bullets needed."

"Oh.."

"Irina-chan...it's okay to use airsoft guns for target shooting too." I said to her. "As much I would love to guide you, the other method, I don't have enough time because after the reunion at the Philippines, I'll be going back to Britain immediately."

Irina suddenly smiled. "Ah, Papa told me we'll be living in Britain after summer break...it's Lionswill."

"Lionswill, Irina-chan?"

"Hai, Caesar-nii." replied the Russian. "Do you live there?"

"Yep." I said with a smile as I looked at her cousins who were now smiling at what I said. "I think I can help you reach one of your dreams once we meet each other in Lionswill."

"Really, Caesar-nii?" excitedly asked Irina.

"Of course, you're one of my friends alongside your cousins here." I happily replied.

When I said that, Irina suddenly hugged me. "Thank you Caesar-nii! I love you!"

"You're welcome, Irina-chan." I said with a smile while hugging her back as I turned my head to Arisa as I requested her. "Okay, Arin, since I'm aware of your name, how 'bout your likes and dreams? I would like to know that please."

"Hai, Caesar." answered Arin with her own smile. "I'm born on May 17. My likes are my friends, family, spicy food and drink, kendo, and anime. My dream is...gomenCaesar...I haven't decided at least one."

As she finished that, Arin looked unhappy which caused me to cheer her up.

"Don't worry...time and situation will tell." I told her, smiling. "In fact, I would like to give you something before we leave for the Philippines."

Grabbing something from my bag as I opened the first zipper, a wrapped present popped out in my palm as all the girls' attention went to it.

The wrapped present itself got a written card with the words "Arisa Minase".

"Arisa," I addressed Arin by her real name."Here's a present I would like to give it to you. Please don't open it yet until I say so."

"Okay, Caesar." Arin taking the present from my hand, was surprised and happy.

"Now I am aware of your birthday, there's something I would like to say about before we arrived here in Japan three days ago." Taking a deep breath, I let out a smile at the memory I recalled. "Back in my house at Britain, when we were preparing ourselves for stopping first here before the family reunion at the Philippines, my mother was talking with your mom through VidChat."

"I remember that, Caesar." commented Arin with her smile. "Kaa-chan told me she was talking with her friend, Aunt Theresa. It's after she ended the video call."

"Hm, about my perspective...it's at the time when I came back from playing with my friends."

(Flashback Start: 6 Days Before Departure)

"Can't you believe it, Elsie? My little Caesar might be a natural. I swear it's like discovering an unpolished gem."

"Wow, really? If that's the case, you should properly guide him."

Hearing an unfamiliar voice conversing in English because I came from the kitchen to quench my thirst and saw Mom with her laptop turned on because of her wearing protection against blue light, I curiously made my way to her direction and sat beside her.

Now sitting beside Mom, I noticed the screen showed a video chat window of the app, displaying "Elsie Minase", from Mom's contacts under the category "Besties".

I silently greeted Mom. "Hello, Mom. I'm back from playing with my friends."

Mom looked at me and smiled. "Welcome back, Casear. Had fun with your friends?"

"Yes." I replied. "They said hello."

"Gotcha," Mom said as she shifted her gaze to her laptop."Say, Caesar, why not giving a hello to your Aunt Elsie from Japan? We'll be seeing her there."

The person in the screen, Aunt Elsie, smiled and nodded.

I shyly introduced myself to Aunt Elsie."Hello, Aunt Elsie. I'm Caesar. Nice to meet you."

"Nice to meet you too, Caesar." replied Aunt Elsie with a smile. "I heard a lot of good things from your mommy. She's on fire lately y'know. Haven't seen that for a long time when she stayed at my old home as part of our respective school's exchanging students."

"May I know why, Aunt Elsie?" I asked, curious about Mom.

"That's a s-e-c-r-e-t, Caesar." answered Aunt Elsie with her wink.

'No fair.' I thought, pouting while hearing Mom laughing.

"Caesar, you're 6 years old right?" asked Aunt Elsie.

"Yes, Aunt Elsie. I recently turned 6." I answered with a smile, remembering that day I first tried target shooting at Happy Musang.

"Well then," started to say Aunt Elsie. "Since you're younger than my lovely daughter by 1 year, how about I introduce her to you?"

"I-I-m not sure about that." I bashfully replied. "But okay."

Smiling, Aunt Elsie then looked behind her to look for her daughter as I imagined and looked forward to meeting her.

While waiting for Aunt Elsie, I turned my head to Mom to ask a question. "Mom, how many hours is UK and Japan?"

"9 Hours, Caesar." Mom replied as she asked me a question. "Why do you ask?"

"It's my curiosity." I sheepishly commented. "would that make their current time, 9:30 PM?"

"Yes, Caesar."

"I'm back~" Suddenly said Aunt Elsie. "Caesar, my apologies. She's asleep earlier than I expected."

"It's okay, Aunt Elsie." I humbly replied to her with my genuine smile present. "We can do this for another day or if not another day, surely our meet up in Japan will give that opportunity."

Aunt Elsie smiled. "Sure but let me tell you about her first...if that's okay with you?"

I nodded.

"Here it goes."

A picture popped up in the screen. The picture showed a white haired British woman with sky blue eyes and a girl bearing similarities, smiling at the picture. From the looks of it, the pic was taken at the the same restaurant we ate when we were in Japan last year.

"She's Arin..." said Aunt Elsie.

'Arin, huh?' Observing the picture displayed in the screen, I noticed Arin's sky blue eyes in that pic was suited for a white-haired girls like her. It's like I imagined what a color combination would result a desired combination from producing a well-drawn character – a heroine.

"...sar"

"...sar"

"...sar"

"Huh?" Snapping out of it, Mom was looking at me with a facial expression and smiling at the same time.

"Are you with us, Caesar?" Aunt Elsie asked, smiling as I noticed she looked at Mom and nodded her head.

"A-ah, yes. I'm still here in the world of living." I jokingly replied as I shifted the tone to ask her a question. "I-i-is there something would you like me to say?"

Aunt Elsie chuckled. "Etto..I was about to say that."

"Oh? Okay."

I then told her what's my impression and what I think. From eyes to anything as I was being asked by Aunt Elsie and as for Mom she wanted me to compare her to my friends, it was embarrassing and sort of made me nervous that I lost my composure in answering the following questions.

"Wow, you thought that way?" Mom asked with her grin while Aunt Elsie was chuckling and nodding her head in agreement at Mom's comment.

"...yes." With me done answering, for the first time in my life, I looked down, embarrassed to look at Aunt Elsie and Mom. It felt like 1 hour for me but in reality 2 minutes lapsed

'This rapid heartbeat..it's like the same when Bernie did to me before exams.'

"So, Caesar, you look forward to visit us?" asked Aunt Elise, this time with her smile present.

"H-hai."

"Okay then~" said Aunt Elsie as she smiled at us." Thank you for chatting with me, Caesar. I look forward meeting you~"

"You're welcome, Aunt Elsie." I replied.

"And Theresa," said Aunt Elsie to Mom. "thank you for introducing your son to me."

Mom smiled. "No probs, Elsie."

"Well then, see you in Japan! Bye!"

"Bye, Aunt Elsie!"

With Aunt Elsie going offline from the chat, Mom smiled. "Hey, Caesar, how about we go to Ashton?"

"Eh? But why?" I asked.

"To buy gifts, of course." replied Mom.

(Flashback End)

After I finished narrating, Arin/Arisa's face was red. Red as in I can see her being shy and trying to avoid my gaze while being near me.

I could say the same thing as her. My narration brought me back to the days of being teased by Mom and Dad. It's like a gentle torture but I could not deny the warmth brought from it. And now with her and her cousins in our company, I felt embarrassed to say that to Arisa.

"C-caesar," shyly said Arin. "Do you think my eyes are pretty?"

"Y-y-yes." I replied. "I also think you'll look pretty with long hair. I mean you have long hair right now."

"A-are you sure?"

"Yes."

"Thank you, Caesar." Arin said as she hugged me suddenly."I think I have now a dream."

'A dream, huh?' "Arin, may I know what's that?"

Strange enough when I asked her, Arin's face went back to red.

"That's a secret, Caesar." stated Arin/Arisa who for a moment looked away with her smile, holding the present closer to her body.

"Okay Arin..you may now unwrap it."

When I said that, Arisa did so.

"Caesar, thank you very much! I will cherish this!"

What came out caused her to hug me. What was it, you ask? It's a hair ribbon that matched the color of her eyes, and the other, was in color blue as an extra spare.

"Y-you're welcome, Arin. I know it's not yet your birthday yet because we'll be leaving the day after tomorrow." I said to Arisa. "But I want to say this: advance happy birthday, Arisa."

Arin smiled brightly. "Once again, thank you Caesar."

I smiled back and nodded, watching Arin delighted to receive it.

Turning my attention to the kitchen's direction, I noticed the adults were smiling at us with their cellphone cameras turned on.

The other woman who was with them, surely that's Aunt Leonara, Shizu and Aika's mother. She was all smiles too while passing through our direction with food tray in hand.

The food...it smelled good.

"Ne, Caesar-nii.." called Irina.

"What is it, Irina-chan?" I said.

Irina's face turned red. "D-d-do you think I'll look good with long hair?"

"Yes, Irina-chan." I replied.

"Hehe, I'll grow my hair for you, Caesar-nii."

"Caesar, what about us?" asked Shizu who along with her sister, Aika, being shy.

I smiled. "Well, since you two are pair of twins, I'm sure both of you will look good with long hair."

The twins smiled.

After we're done chatting, Aunt Elsie and Aunt Leonora called us for lunch.
