Kacey and Max had been dating for two years. Three months ago they'd moved in together. They were at home. John was in town and Kacey invited him over for dinner. Kacey and John hadn't spoken or seen each other very much since she started dating. That's why she was looking forward to the dinner. John hadn't had much luck in the relationship department. Kacey had just came back from the store. Her hands were full with grocery bags.

"Max?" She called.

"Coming." He said hurrying down the stairs. He took two bags from her.

"Thank you."

"You're welcome." They kissed and went into the kitchen.

"I can't wait for this dinner."

"I know."

"We're gonna have to give John the grand tour." "He hasn't seen the house."

"You showed him pictures right?"

"Yeah." "Pictures don't do this house justice though."

"They sure don't."

"I have to get cooking."

"Need any help?"

"You can make the salad when it's time if you want."

"Ok."

At around seven that night there was a knock at the door. Kacey answered it and smiled when she saw John. He was holding a bottle of wine.

"Hi." She said.

"Hi." He went inside. "It's good to see you."

"You to." They hugged. "Dinner will be ready in about ten minutes." "Let me show you the house."

"Hey John, what's up?" Max said coming into the living room.

"Not much." John said.

After dinner Kacey went upstairs to go to the bathroom. Max and John were in the kitchen.

"I want to show you something real quick." Max said. He left the kitchen and came back a few seconds later with a little red box. "Don't tell Kacey." He opened at and John saw an engagement ring inside.

"Wow." John said surprised. "That's a big step."

"I know." "I'm ready to take it."

"When?"

"In a few days."

"Just make sure you take care of her."

"I know you've taken on a big brother roll with her." "You don't have to worry." "I love her, I'd never hurt her." "I hope she says yes."

"She will, she loves you."

Three days later Kacey and Max were at the airport where he asked her out. They were sitting at the table where asked her.

"Kacey you know how much I love you right?" Max asked.

"Of course I do."

He got down on one knee, took the box out of his pocket and opened it. "I love you more then anything in the world." "Kacey, will you marry me?"

"Yes." She said happily. He put the ring on her finger. They kissed. "I love you."

"I love you too."
