AnnaBeth had been on her rounds at Chicago med for her placement. To say she was enjoying it was an understatement. She had never been so sure about anything in her life. Nursing was what she was meant to do. She knew people thought she did things on a whim and changed her career every couple of months, but she thought that was just because back then she hadn't been brave enough to go after what she wanted, and now she was.

Besides that, it had also been a great distraction. Kelly and Matt were fighting, which had led to Kelly and her fighting. They hadn't really fought before. She'd done the whole marriage and long-term relationship thing; she knew it would happen eventually, but it had still caught her off guard.

Kelly was arguing with Matt, almost starting fights in bars and then shutting her out when she tried to help him. It was one thing to act like a lone wolf when you're single but in a marriage, it couldn't work that way.

"You look like you're carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders"

AnnaBeth just smiled as she looked up from putting her phone away on her way back from the canteen, she had no messages, and she wasn't sure she was all that surprised.

"Don't tell me you've been scared off already" Dr Halstead teased "It seems like you're having a good first day to me"

"I'm not sure how good I am but I'm enjoying it" She replied putting her phone in her pocket.

"You're doing great" Maggie told her "And if you have any questions about your classes don't hesitate to come to me"

AnnaBeth felt so grateful. Maggie was the head nurse in the Emergency Department. She had an air of authority about her and was incredible at her job, but she was also so friendly and approachable. She had found Dr Halstead and Dr Manning were the same. Will Halstead was easy going but passionate about his job and Natalie Manning was just about the sweetest woman she had ever met but also a talented doctor.

"That really means a lot" She said sincerely "Thank you so much"

Will looked back at her as Maggie was called over to a patients room.

"So, what's wrong?" He asked clearly not the type to give up.

"Could you maybe take a blood sample for me please?" She asked biting her lip.

"And what are we testing for?" He asked raising an eyebrow.

"I think I might be pregnant" She replied.

Like arguing with Kelly wasn't enough she still hadn't taken a pregnancy test with everything that had been going on and she was still late.

"Sure" He said putting a hand on her shoulder "Come on"

AnnaBeth followed Will through to a free room. She had debated over and over again if she should talk to Kelly. But things had been strained for days. You could cut the atmosphere in the apartment with a knife. She had gone out with Lucy and Samantha a few times and had considered asking if she could book a room at the hotel. But she wouldn't give up that easy. She loved Kelly and she would put her all into making things work. She knew he was on shift, but he usually called her, but he hadn't checked in with her at all since his fight with Matt that morning.

"You know if you ever need to talk" Will told her as he got the needle out ready.

"It's just been one of those weeks" She shrugged "Things get a little tough and you realise how hard it is not having your best friend to talk it through with, it'll all work out, , positive and I have to tell Kelly and now I'm scared how that would go, negative and I worry if there's a reason for it, I've always wanted children, they found cysts a few years ago and said there was nothing to stop me from getting pregnant, but what if they were wrong, I was with my ex-husband for years and it never happened for us, then if I can't have kids and I have to tell Kelly"

"AB" Will said putting a hand on hers to calm her down "Let's just take the test first, and no matter what you can go from there"

"You're right" She said softly "Sorry, I just told you more than you bargained for"

"I asked" Will shrugged "There's nothing to be sorry for"

AnnaBeth tried not to look at the needle. She was cool as a cucumber if it was somebody else, but she hated having her own blood drawn.

"AB?"

AnnaBeth looked up at Kelly who was stood at the desk with Maggie. He was holding his ribs dressed in his turnout gear, he looked a little worse for wear like he had just come right out of an accident scene.

"Are you ok?" He asked walking in.

"Me?" She asked, "What about you?"

"I'm fine" He said but the wince on his face gave him away "I just hit the ground hard when I stopped a car from rolling into the ambulance, it's nothing, Chief made me come in"

"Well I'm glad he did" She told him sternly "You're not superman you know"

"Maggie" Will said "Could you run this to the lab for me, I have to check on a patient"

AnnaBeth smiled at Will and mouthed Thank you as he handed the vial to Maggie.

"Kelly take a seat" Maggie told him "I'm sending this up and then I'll be back to take a look at you"

AnnaBeth bit her lip as Maggie and Will left them alone. Kelly sat down beside her on the bed and took her hand.

"So, why is Will taking your blood?" He asked.

"Just routine" She told him, and he raised an eyebrow in disbelief "Well, I mean because I might be pregnant, but I might now so I didn't want to tell you in case…"

Kelly caught her off guard by kissing her.

"You're cute when you ramble" He told her cupping her face in his hand.

"You're not mad?" She asked "I know we didn't plan, didn't even talk about it"

"We were talking about Zoe and Wade" He said taking her hand "And I do like how things are, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't be equally as excited if things changed, I love you, that won't change"

"You're pretty great you know that" She told him pressing her forehead against his "Please don't throw yourself in front of anymore cars or I may have to kill you"

"I'll try" He replied with a grin.

"Did you make up with Casey?" She asked changing the subject not wanting to think about her pregnancy test.

She didn't want to get involved with his work life; the issues were spilling over into their home life though. The last thing she wanted to do was bring up their fight, but she didn't want to live in a house with so much tension. Ideally, they would have their own place, but she understood why he had wanted to stay to help out Matt.

"Ok Severide" Maggie said walking back in before he could answer "Shirt off and let's take a look at those ribs"

"That is not nothing" She gasped smacking him in his good shoulder as she saw the angry bruise already formed on his ribs.

"AB please don't hit my patient" Maggie told her with an amused smile.

"Sorry" She said, and Kelly squeezed her hand.

Maggie finished bandaging him up and told him to try and keep out of the way of rolling cars for a few days. AnnaBeth walked him out front where the squad truck was waiting for him. She smiled and waved at Capp and Tony who she'd met a few times before. Rice she was a little less familiar with, but she knew he was a long-time friend of Kelly's.

"Please keep an eye on him" She told them as she kissed him goodbye.

"Call me when you hear anything" He said kissing her again before jumping up into the truck.

She decided to just stay in the moment they were in now. It was their first fight; he was having a rough time at work. It was going to be an adjustment. She was just thankful that he was ok, and that they were going to be ok.

Maggie gave her a knowing look as she walked back inside with a smile on her face.

"You two are cute together" Maggie told her "I'm glad he has someone like you"

"I think I'm the lucky one" She nodded.

"Not so lucky" Maggie told her "You've got a kid in bay two, lots of vomiting"

AnnaBeth didn't mind. She wasn't squeamish anyway, but nothing could ruin her good mood right now. She felt like no matter what happened a huge weight had been lifted off of her shoulders.
