Emerald Anniversary

Mayhem! The 6th Chaos Emerald

At Area 99 a door opened and the President's Third Aide entered the research and development room.

"It's very impressive, isn't it?" a scientist said.

"That's it?" P.T.A. asked.

"Project Beetle is only a prototype, of course, based on our analysis of Dr. Eggman's technology. But if all goes as planned, we'll soon have our own working robot." the scientist said showing a new robot design.

"The President considers this project to be a national priority."

"We won't let him down."

At Station Square Topaz was sitting on a bench, drinking coffee. Rouge was in a tree behind her, looking at jewels in a shop window through her Jewel Scope.

"What a fabulous display... I wish I had a rock collection like that." Rouge said.

"You're a thief!" Topaz said.

"I haven't stolen them yet, Topaz."

"So... Then you are planning a robbery, aren't you?" Topaz said. "Excuse me, could somebody get the police and tell them there's a thief hiding back here?" she said louder.

The pedestrians stopped and stared at her, causing Rouge to duck back into the tree. She cautiously poked her head back out.

"I know why you're so passive-aggressive towards me. You're jealous of me because I'm the glamorous team member."

"If you think I'm the least bit jealous of you, then you really are bats." Topaz said and looked up to see a stretch limo pull up in front of the jewelry shop.

"That's Nelson Thorndyke! The computer mogul?! What a hunk!" crowd said.

Rouge and Topaz blinked in surprise. As Nelson entered the shop, the other personnel stood at either side of him to hold back the crowd. A man and a woman ran the shop.

"Good morning!" a man and woman said.

"Hello." Nelson said.

"Thank you for visiting our store, Mr. Thorndyke. Is there something we can help you find today?"

"Yes, I'm shopping for an anniversary present for my wife."

"You've come to the right place, sir! We've got a full line of matrimonial mementos guaranteed to make every anniversary golden!"

Nelson looked around the shop, then walked toward a covered object near the back of the store.

"What's under there?" he asked.

"You have exquisite taste, sir. This item was acquired recently, and it's truly one-of-a-kind!" the man said and removed the cloth, revealing the purple Chaos Emerald.

It was bright enough for Nelson to shield his eyes. Topaz and Rouge, who have been looking on, were shocked.

"It's a perfect gift. That's it!" Nelson said and saw Lindsey wearing the Chaos Emerald as a ring. "Lindsey is simply wild about jewelry." he said after seeing it. "How long will it take to have the ring ready?"

"But... isn't that gem a tad large for a ring?" the man asked.

"My wife definitely like flashy jewelry. It's our wedding anniversary, and I want to get her something special." he said and crossed his arms. "I can't wait to see Lindsey's face when I slip it on her finger. Her birthday's coming up. I'll tell ya what. Give me a couple of diamonds too."

"Um, sure!"

Soon the purchase was made, and Nelson left the store.

"Thank you very much, Mr. Thorndyke. Please feel free to stop by our store any time!" a man and woman said.

As Nelson headed back to the limo, Topaz and Rouge glanced at each other.

At Thorndyke Mansion Foyer Tanaka was on the phone.

"Hello. This is the Thorndyke residence." he said.

"Hi there, Tanaka. How's everything going at home?" Nelson said on the phone.

Chris, Tails, Amy, Cream, and Cheese headed down the stairs.

Tanaka bowed.

"Everyone is doing very well here, Mr. Thorndyke." he said and covered the mouthpiece. "Mr. Chris, I have Mr. Thorndyke on the line for you."

"Ah, cool!" Chris said and ran over to the phone.

"Hold on! I thought Chuck was here!" Tails said.

"He is." Amy said.

Chris took the phone from Tanaka, who stepped aside.

"Thank you." Chris said. "Hey there! How's it going, Dad? ... Are you calling from the office or are you travelling?" he said on the phone.

"Chris' father is the Mr. Thorndyke on the phone. If it was Chuck, he'd say "Hello, Grandpa." Amy said.

"Right. It is Mr. Nelson Thorndyke." Tanaka said.

"You see? I'm right."

"Yeah, now it's clear." Tails said.

"She's not here. Mom is in Filmdom City acting for a movie. If you need to reach her, you can call her at the studio, though. ... O-Okay, I'll be there." Chris said.

In the limo Nelson hung up.

"I changed my mind. I want to go to Filmdom City right away." he said.

"Yes, sir." the driver said. And drove into the highway.

At the Foyer Chris hung up.

"That's weird. My dad wants us all to go to Filmdom City, but he won't say why." he said.

"Filmdom City? Where the movie stars live? Yeah! Let's go!" Amy said.

"It sounds like fun! Right, Cheese?" Cream said.

"Chao!" Cheese said.

Meanwhile Chris, Chuck, Tails, Amy, Cream, and Cheese were gathered in the garage. Tails loaded the four Chaos Emeralds into the X-Tornado.

"We're all set." he said.

"So Tails, how many more Chaos Emeralds do you need now?" Chris asked.

"We have four, and Knuckles is holding one. We need seven."

"Wow! Just two more!"

Then Amy appeared impatient.

"Yeah, but we have to be really careful now when we add the new Chaos Emeralds to the ones we have already." Tails said. "The four Chaos Emeralds we have now are okay because they've had tome to adapt to each other. But if we add a new Emerald without following the right steps, it could cause an electromagnetic reaction that we can't control, and we'll be in major trouble." he said. "The last time they were all brought together, it was a disaster." he said with his arms crossed.

"Huh. It sounds tricky." Chris said.

"Hey! Aren't you forgetting we're supposed to meet your father in Filmdom City now!" Amy said.

"Yeah. Sorry."

Soon, the X-Tornado took off with Tails, Amy, and Chris aboard. Shadow leapt onto the back of the craft.

"Filmdom City, huh? I've never been there." he said.

At Station Square Tanaka was driving Chuck, Ella, Cream, and Cheese to Filmdom City.

Meanwhile, Mr. Stewart was drinking coffee at an outdoor café when the X-Tornado flew overhead.

"Huh? The X-Tornado!" he said and immediately left his coffee and ran for his car, leaping in through the sun roof.

Throwing his car into gear, he pursued the X-Tornado.

"I'd better see what those kids are up to!"

In Filmore City one of the buildings, Nelson was admiring the beauty of the Chaos Emerald when there was a knock on the door.

"Yes, come in." Nelson said and Chris opened the door.

"Hi, Dad!" he said and ran to him and hugged him.

"Hello, son!" he said and the others headed inside as well. "Thanks for coming, Chris. Boy, am I happy to see you."

Tails and Shadow noticed the Chaos Emeralds in the latter's possession were glowing.

"Shadow, how are you?" he asked and extended his hand for a shake. "Hey, that race you won was really amazing!"

"Thanks a lot!" Shadow said and shook his hand.

"Hey Dad, I want you to meet some of my other friends who came along. ... This is Tails." Chris said.

"Nice to meet you. Hello." Tails said and rubbed the back of his head.

"Amy."

"Hello." Amy said.

"And here's Cream and Cheese."

"Hello, sir." Cream said and blushed.

"And this is my teacher, Mr. Stewart."

Suddenly, everyone but Nelson and Mr. Stewart did a double take.

"Mr. Stewart's here? No way!" they said together.

"Hello, sir. It's a pleasure to meet you." he said.

"So, how is my son doing in school?" Nelson asked.

"He's a model student, Mr. Thorndyke."

"Is there a reason we're here, or did we travel all this way just to say hello?" Chuck asked with his arms crossed.

"You mean I didn't tell you? This is a very special day!" Nelson said and imagined Lindsey in a dress, ready for the take. "Let's try one more take. Try to get it right this time, please. Ready? And... action!"

"Let's try one more take. Try to get it right this time, please. Ready? And... action!" the director said.

"The prince swore he would return someday, and I know he'll keep his word." Lindsey said then saw a handsome-looking figure behind a tree. "Is it really you...?" she asked and ran up to the man. "My true love..."

At a second glance, she saw that it wasn't the actor.

"Why, Nelson!" she said.

Nelson took out the box containing the Chaos Emerald ring and opened it.

"Here, Lindsey. With my love." he said and she gasped.

"You haven't forgotten what today is, have you, dear?"

"Happy wedding anniversary to the Thorndykes!" everyone said.

"I don't know what to say... Thank you all!"

"Congratulations!" everyone said applauding.

"Chao chao!"

Nelson and Lindsey hugged each other.

"Thank you, honey." she said.

At Filmdom city Nelson was in the same hugging position he was in before.

"So, what do you think?" he asked.

"Well..." Chuck said.

"That's almost as original as the time you wished her a happy birthday by skydiving onto her set." Tanaka said.

"I guarantee you're going to leave Mrs. Thorndyke downright speechless." Ella said.

"That's what I'm going for!" Nelson said.

"Surprising mom with that ring while she's filming is a great idea!" Chris said.

"A wonderful plan, sir." Tanaka said.

"Hey, you can give me jewelry any time!" Ella said.

Topaz and Rouge were in an air duct, listening to the conversation.

"Now honestly, you really think she'll like it, Ella?" Nelson asked and opened the box, revealing the Chaos Emerald.

"Oh my! It's amazing!" she said.

Suddenly, it started reacting with the blue Chaos Emerald in Shadow's hand.

"What's going on?" he wondered.

The reaction became so great that a beacon was projected into the air.

In the Egg Fort II Eggman was asleep, and Bocoe and Decoe were bored.

"I am bored out of my circuits." Decoe said.

"I would give my left servo motor for a little excitement..." Bocoe said and saw something in the radar. "Huh? What is this? ... Doctor Eggman, we have detected a Chaos Emerald!"

Eggman was startled out of his seat.

"You'd better not be joking." he said and rushed to the radar. "Where? Show me!"

"There, in Filmdom City!"

"Right! Set a course for Filmdom City on the double!"

At Station Square Knuckles ran along the top of a building before gliding off. His Chaos Emerald was in his grasp.

"There's a Chaos Emerald somewhere around here..." he said and landed on the ground. "That Emerald could be any place in this city." he said then saw the beacon. "I found it."

In Filmdom City the reaction violently caused the lights to flicker and the TV to turn to static. Nelson finally closed the box.

"Just what is going on here?" Nelson asked.

"The filming is about to begin. You should go get changed, sir." Tanaka said.

"Yeah, you're right."

"Thorndyke doesn't know how valuable that gem really is." Rouge said.

The humans left the room.

"Now what? That ring is made from the Chaos Emerald, isn't it?" Amy asked.

"We need that Emerald to get home, but now it looks like Chris' mom'll be wearing it on her finger." Sonic said.

"We should talk about it with Chris, but let's wait until after the surprise party is over." Tails said.

Meanwhile, as the humans walked down the hallway, Mr. Stewart broke away from the group and activated his wrist communicator.

"Calling Homeroom. I have just detected a possible Chaos Emerald. Will retrieve." he said.

Later, the final scene was being set up. Nelson was in position, and Shadow was watching from a distance when Knuckles approached Sonic.

"Hello, Shadow." Knuckles said.

"Hey there, Knuckles. What's crackin'?" Shadow said.

"You tell me."

"To be honest, I'm not really sure."

"Let's try one more take. Try to get it right this time, please. Ready? And... action!" the director said and Lindsey leaned against a tree.

"The prince swore he would return some day, and I know he'll keep his word." she said then looked up and saw Nelson, but didn't know it was him. "Is it really you...?"

They approached each other but he tripped.

"Whoa!" he said and the box fell on the ground, and the Chaos Emerald tumbled out.

It immediately reacted with the emeralds in Shadow's and Knuckles' possessions.

"Oh no! The ring!" he said.

Lindsey removed his wig.

"Nelson?" she said.

"Lindsey..."

Everyone felt the effects of the reaction.

On the Egg Fort II. "We are closing in on the Chaos Emerald." Bocoe said.

"Look, Doctor." Decoe said.

"What?" Eggman asked and they saw the beacon created by the Chaos Emeralds. "That light beam will lead us straight to the Emerald." he said. "Let's go!" he shouted out.

At Filmdom City the Chaos Emeralds' reaction caused stage lights to fall and other equipment to explode.

"Put that ring back in the box right away!" Shadow said.

Tanaka acted quickly and scooped the emerald back into the box and closed it. One last stage light fell.

"I think perhaps we should move off the set, sir?" he said.

"What in the world has gotten into you? We're shooting the most important scene in the entire movie!" Lindsey said to Nelson.

"I was only trying to surprise you, honey." he said.

"This isn't going like Dad planned at all." Chris said.

"Sorry, I forgot I married a movie star!"

"Well, how would you like it if I barged into one of your company's shareholder meetings and made a complete fool of myself?" she asked.

"At least I cared enough to come visit you!"

"What is that supposed to mean? Are you insinuating that I don't care?"

"Now, now. Calm down." Chuck said.

"Butt out!" they said together.

"Homeroom, will you alert the risis team to stand by?" Mr. Steward asked through his communicator.

"Shadow, we need that ring." Knuckles said.

"I know, but it won't be easy to get." Shadow said.

"Let's just tell 'em we need it to get home."

"We can't spoil their anniversary." Shadow said with his arms crossed.

Suddenly the ground shook.

The Egg Fort II had crashed through the roof, and Eggman and his hench-bots were racing toward our heroes.

"Hand over that Chaos Emerald!" Decoe and Bocoe said.

"It's Eggman. Of course." Shadow, Tails and Knuckles said the split up and ran.

On a Jurassic Park movie set, a couple were cowering in the car as a T-rex menaced them. Sonic leapt into the top of the T-rex and taunted Eggman.

"This way, Eggman!" he said.

As he left, Eggman's Eggmobile crashed through the T-rex's head.

"I'll get you, Shadow!" he said.

On a Star Wars movie set, Knuckles leapt over a model planet and Decoe tripped over it. On a Titanic movie set, Tails ran around the front of the ship and Bocoe tried to pursue, but fell over the railing. Tails caught him, but dropped him back over the railing.

"With all this confusion, now's the perfect time to make my move." Rouge said and dove off the balcony.

"Rouge!" Topaz said.

Rouge swooped down and snatched the box from Nelson.

"Where's the ring?" he asked and she smirked. "Hey! You give that back to me!"

"Sorry, but this gem is really a Chaos Emerald, which is far too precious to use in jewelry, even for someone as glamorous as me." she said.

Then Eggman, who had been hiding in the shadows, took the box from Rouge.

"Let's make sure this Emerald is real." he said and opened the box. "Fantastic! We hit the jackpot!"

Rouge fought Eggman for the emerald.

"Hand it back, Eggman!" she said.

"No way! It's mine now!" he said.

She leapt off the railing and grappled for the emerald.

"Give it up!" Topaz said.

"Get away! Decoe and Bocoe, come and help me! Hurry!" Eggman said.

"Oh, yes, Doctor!" Decoe said.

"Coming!" Bocoe said and they gave up the chase.

"Dr. Eggman is trying to escape with the Emerald." Mr. Steward said on his wrist communicator.

"Come on! Drop it!" Topaz said.

"I'd rather drop you!" Eggman said and rapidly accelerated the Eggmobile, then slammed on the brakes, sending Topaz and Rouge hurtling toward Mr. Stewart.

"Ladies, please! I, I-" he said but they crashed into them, sending the three over the railing and into the water.

Eggman laughed.

"Eggman!" someone said.

Eggman turned to see Shadow and Knuckles.

"Hand over that Chaos Emerald or else!" Shadow and Knuckles said together.

"Or else what? Weazo, get rid of those clowns!" he said and pressed a button, and E-74 Weazo crashed through the window.

"Not another robot!" they said together.

Weazo breathed flames into the air, then approached the Thorndyke family. Lindsey screamed.

"You get away! Don't you dare harm my family!" Nelson said.

"Hold it, chump!" someone said.

Weazo turned toward the lone figure of Tanaka. Loose debris blew past him in dramatic style.

"Before you lay your claws on the Thorndyke family, you must get past me." he said and assumed a defensive karate stance.

"Well, robot, do you feel lucky- Aaahhh!"

Weazo's tail slapped him into a wall.

"What's wrong with that guy?" Knuckles asked.

"Too many kung fu movies." Shadow said.

Weazo continued to bear down on the Thorndykes, but Knuckles grabbed its tail.

"Leave them alone, Weazo!" he said but Weazo whipped him into a crate.

"You won't win that easy!" Shadow said and home attacked Weazo, knocking it over. "Come on!" he said and ran as Weazo chased him.

At Egg Fort II Eggman was wearing the Chaos Emerald ring.

"Hehehe... Soon I'll steal the other Emeralds too!" he said.

"This one sure is impressive." Bocoe said.

"It looks very powerful." Decoe said.

At Filmdom City Shadow dodged Weazo's flame blasts as he ran through a Godzilla set. Weazo's flames burned Godzilla to a crisp. Sonic eventually ran into a room painted to look like an underwater scene.

"Huh? It's a dead end!" he said and dodged several blasts of Weazo's flames, but realized he was trapped. "I can't get away!"

Meanwhile, Knuckles was on the move.

"Shadddow! Hey, Shadow! Where are you?!" he said and entered a room adjacent to the one Shadow was in.

"They're fighting in... water?" he said and felt the aquarium wall. "Now I see."

Weazo fired more flames at Sonic, but they didn't quite reach.

"Listen, Shadow! Jump up now!" Knuckles said.

Shadow did so, and Knuckles punched through the aquarium, sending its water into Weazo. Its flamethrower now rendered useless. Knuckles leapt toward Weazo.

"You're through!" he said and punched Weazo's jaw, and Shadow spun through its chest.

Then Weazo exploded.

At Egg Fort II the three villains witness the demise of their robot.

"I think I'll cut Shadow a break and call it quits today." Eggman said.

"Good idea." Bocoe said.

"Thanks for the Chaos Emerald! Hahahaha!" Eggman, Decoe and Bocoe said together and the Egg Fort II flew away.

At Filmdom City.

"Are you all okay?" Nelson asked.

Lindsey and Chris ran over to hug Nelson.

"You protected us, dear!" Lindsey said.

"Of course. You're my family." Nelson said.

"This surprise part certainly was surprising." Chuck said.

"I'm all upset that Eggman stole Mrs. Thorndyke's new ring. That gemstone was so pretty." Ella said.

"I have failed in my duties. I don't deserve this uniform." Tanaka said and started to remove his undershirt, but Chris stopped him.

"Hold on! The important thing is that we're all here to celebrate Mom and Dad's anniversary." Chris said.

"And besides, Tanaka, it isn't your fault that my ring was stolen." Lindsey said.

"Thank you." Tanaka said.

"Hey! Let's all wish my mom and dad a very happy anniversary!" Chris shouted and Confetti started to fall.

"And many more!" everyone said.

"Chao chao!"

"Thank you, everybody."

"Congratulations!" everyone said while Shadow and Knuckles looked on.

"It all worked out okay." Shadow said.

"Oh yeah. Except with Eggman getting away with the Chaos Emerald, it went just perfect." Knuckles said.

"Shadow has four Chaos Emeralds, and Knuckles has one. Even Dr. Eggman has one Emerald, and now we're the only ones who don't have any. When the last Chaos Emerald is found and all seven are put together, it'll be a real blast." Rouge said. "I'll get those Emeralds no matter what." she said to herself.
