Chapter 23: 151
Author's Note: Remember how I said I couldn't write one chapter in just a day? Apparently, I was wrong. I promise this won't be the norm though. This was a specific chapter I had to think of before I even made chapter one since it details the origin of All for One and One for All in a world without Quirks. This was actually really fun to write as it let me even tap into material from side games like Pokken Tournament! This chapter wasn't too long either but as I said before, I won't always be able to post everyday. Anyway, enjoy!
Eventually, all of their internships came to a close. It was a huge experience for everyone but they were also happy to be back with their fellow classmates.
People like Tsuyu had a great time, being able to do real Hero work while learning under professionals. However, there were a few that had… a below average experience. Momo and especially Katsuki seemed to show that.
Ochako seemed to have changed the most. Before class, everyone found her at the back of the classroom punching the air. "The internship was very meaningful..." she said, throwing another fist into the air. Gunhead must have really taught her something…
However, it was Shoto, Izuku, and Tenya who got the most attention. It was made public that they had encountered the Hero Killer, but none of them knew that it was actually the three students who ultimately defeated him. As far as they, and the rest of the public knew, Endeavor was the one to finally beat Stain. It sucked, but it was better than being expelled.
"I heard on the news that the Hero Killer was connected to the League of Villains. It scares me to think that the people that attacked us at the USJ were connected to him..." Mashirao said.
"You guys saw the video, right?" Denki asked. Ah yes, the viral video of the Hero Killer. It was published shortly after his arrest. While Stain himself may be out of the picture, his fans definitely carried on his work.
Regardless, despite their tiring week, All Might had big plans for the class. For Hero Basics, he wanted to test what many of them had learned during their internships.
He brought them to one of the test sites where he greeted them. "It's been a while, kids! For today's lesson, we'll be doing a rescue training race!" Tenya raised his hand and cut the man off. "If we're doing rescue training, shouldn't we do it in the USJ?" He asked.
"The USJ is for disaster training. Today, we'll be doing a race!" He opened the gates to the training area and showed them the course.
Playground Gamma, as they called it, was a large industrial area. There were pipes and buildings completely covering the area, allowing for multiple paths. It was essentially a metal maze with how packed it was.
"We will do four groups of five. Each of the five members of each group will be split up to different edges of the playground. Once the timer starts, you'll race to the center. First one to make it wins. If you plan on using a Pokemon that can fly, let me know so I can place you all in one group."
The first group was Izuku, Mashirao, Tenya, Mina, and Hanta. They each went with Eevee, Ambipom, Lycaroc, Nidorina, and Galvantula respectively. With the exception of Izuku and Eevee, the rest of the trainers and their Pokemon were considered to be the best at mobility out of most in the class.
"Hey… isn't that..." Denki looked at the screen and he was surprised to see the Shiny Eevee. "So he caught it, huh?" Kyoka smiled and crossed her arms.
"You two know that Pokemon?" Shoto asked. "She was the one who helped us while we were in Hosu. We might have died if it wasn't for her." Denki and Kyoka couldn't help but smile. It turns out, neither of them were going to be the ones to catch this Eevee. They had since moved on from that fact, but it was interesting to see she had followed Izuku all this time.
"Midoriya's at a bit of a disadvantage, though I'm not quite sure how to judge that Eevee of his yet." Momo said. "That thing can move around for sure, but nowhere on the level of the rest of them." Kyoka replied.
Everyone placed their bets on who would win. Considering the competition, it was difficult to predict. In terms of speed, Tenya and Lycanroc had it down. They would easily outrun the rest of the Pokemon there. However, it wasn't just about speed. Both Mashirao's Ambipom and Mina's Nidorina would both be able to navigate the steel jungle by running along the pipes very easily. Hanta's Galvantula seemed to be the most common prediction though. He would be able to swing along the pipes with incredible speed, making him a good choice.
However, there seemed to be one unanimous agreement. Izuku would likely place last. While they didn't doubt Eevee was capable of something, at the end of the day, it was just an Eevee. Compared to the other four, he didn't stand a chance. The only person who seemed to think otherwise was Shoto who assured them that Izuku had a surprise in store.
"Start!" All Might pressed a button, sounding a horn. Immediately, all five Pokemon began moving.
As predicted, Hanta's Galvantula seemed to be having the easiest time. He was able to get a good view of the entire course simply by swinging around on his webs.
Mina's Nidorina was able to easily crawl on the pipes, allowing her to take shortcuts others wouldn't be able to.
Mashirao's Ambipom was no Slakoth either. He was able to easily bounce off of buildings and get a good view of the course. He was also able to climb pipes and use his tail to reach places many others wouldn't be able to.
As expected as well, Tenya's Lycanroc was the fastest. The only problem was that he had to travel on the ground, meaning he wasn't able to tell where he was going as easily as the others.
However, the biggest surprise was Izuku's Eevee. In a blur, the Pokemon dashed past Galvantula. She was jumping from pipes to buildings with incredible speed. This was the perfect opportunity to show off their Full Cowling.
All Might smiled as he watched Eevee quickly take over the competition. "Woah, she's moving like..."
Katsuki watched in shock. He recalled how his Torracat and Primeape moved and how he used their mobility to their advantage at the Sports Festival. "Those are my moves! While I was wasting time at my internship, he's improved… again..." He clenched his teeth and watched in anger as Eevee got closer to the goal.
"Let's stay calm, Eevee. Stay calm." Izuku said into his microphone. Eevee nodded as she continued running. The way she moved through the air, it was as if she was flying. Izuku had since given Eevee the power of One for All as well, and while it did take a little bit, she seemed to get a good grasp over the power.
"Alright, Eevee. We're almost there! Stay alert and-" Just as they were approaching the center, Eevee slipped on a pipe and fell down to the ground, allowing Galvantula to surpass them and take the win.
"Congratulations, Sero and Galvantula!" All Might gave the young boy a thumbs up. Everyone else was pretty frustrated. In terms of being able to move around in an environment like that, Sero's Pokemon were one step above everyone else.
Izuku was frustrated as well, though he also treated this as a new learning experience. He still had a long way to go, so this was quite welcome.
"While Young Sero may have won, you've all shown great improvement since starting here in UA. Keep this up and prepare for your final exams, got it?" All Might told them. The five students nodded. "Yes, sir!"
"Alright, second group! It's your turn!"
While the first group was leaving the field, All Might walked over to Izuku. "I saw what you were doing. You've grown a lot. After classes, I want you to come see me. I think it's finally time for me to tell you the story of One for All." He said. The young boy nodded. "O-Okay..."
After a pretty eventful day, including Minoru getting beat up by the girls after spying on them in the changing room, Izuku did as All Might had asked of him. He approached his office and entered, finding the deflated Hero sitting on a couch.
"I'm sorry I wasn't able to help out at Hosu." The Pro apologized. Izuku shook his head and smiled. "You don't need to apologize. Everything turned out fine in the end."
"Anyway, I told you I'd tell you the story of One for All. But before I do that, you need to have a better understanding of what this power is. In order to gain the power, you need to take in the DNA of the current holder. However, the holder has to give it willingly. Someone can't just drink your blood and claim One for All unless you intentionally give it to them."
All Might brought his hands together and leaned forward. "As for its origins, do you know the Mythical Pokemon Mew?" He asked. "Of course. There's a big debate going on right now on which was the first ever Pokemon: Mew or Arceus. Nobody can prove that either of them are real though since nobody's really seen them aside for some rumors." Izuku explained.
"Good, at least you know that. However, I can assure you, Mew is real." Izuku's eyes widened in shock. "It's real?" All Might nodded. "In fact, Mew is the origin of One for All. It all started with a man e."
All Might leaned back and began telling his story. "He was a scientist who managed to get some of Mew's blood. Using that blood, as well as an old book written by a man named Dr. Fuji, he brought to life a new Pokemon. He created a sort of biological weapon: Mewtwo."
"Mewtwo..." Izuku whispered to himself. That was a Pokemon that he had never heard of.
"However, this man didn't just tap into the power of Mewtwo. He combined Mew's DNA with two more artifacts. The Shadow Synergy Stone and the Cocoon of Destruction." All Might showed the boy a drawing of the two artifacts.
"Many years ago, Iriomote Island was known for something called Bond Synergy. It was a phenomenon that was caused by stones that were found there. It allowed a trainer and their Pokemon to become connected on an instinctual level and tap into a deeper power, not much different to One for All. Leagues used to be held there, though it seems that most of the power from the Synergy Stones has since dissipated."
He pointed to the drawing of a ten-sided crystal. "There was also a single instance of a Synergized Pokemon going berserk. There was a young trainer from a tribe with a Mewtwo who, after interacting with what we now call the Shadow Synergy Stone, gained immense power and went on a rampage. Somehow, the scientist was able to restore power to this Synergy Stone and use it for his own research."
Next, he pointed to the strange looking cocoon. "The other artifact is this: The Cocoon of the Destruction Pokemon."
"The Destruction Pokemon?" Izuku asked. "As in, Yveltal? That's the counterpart of Xerneas, the Life Pokemon. It's said that they balance life and death in nature."
All Might nodded. "You really know your stuff." He said with a small laugh. "But yes, you are correct. This cocoon was found many years ago in a crater somewhere in France. The scientist researched it and, along with the Shadow Synergy Stone, managed to create one of the most terrifying weapons mankind has ever seen."
Izuku felt a chill run up his spine. If the Synergy Stone had powers similar to One for All and if the legends of Yveltal and its cocoon were to be believed, then this Mewtwo was no joke. Even thinking of a Pokemon so powerful seemed impossible.
"Because of these artifacts, the Mewtwo gained special abilities. Most notably, the ability to absorb the power and lifeforce of others. Thus, he gained the name: All for One. This created a time of chaos, allowing him to rise in power even more. He experimented on people and Pokemon, and killed them as he pleased. In no time, he created a cult and they took over all of Japan, with him as the ruler of evil."
"You mean… the story of the ruler of evil isn't fake?" Izuku asked. He had heard stories of an evil man taking all of Japan, but he never believed them. Obviously they weren't living in a Japan ruled by All for One, so why would he?
"It isn't fake, but textbooks wouldn't write about such an event. Many people weren't even aware at the time of who this man was because he was working in secret. But make no mistake, he ruled over all of Japan with an iron fist."
All Might let out a deep breath. Recalling this story was very emotionally and mentally taxing for him. "The Nomu you saw at the USJ? He was a result of All for One's scientific experiments. A freakish fusion of different Pokemon."
"There was one man who opposed All for One. None other than his own younger brother. However, he was nowhere strong enough to fight him. All for One tortured and experimented on his younger brother, forcing him into submission. However, just when things were looking like they were about to end for him, a Pokemon came to his rescue."
"Mew..." Izuku said. All Might simply nodded. "Correct. It was Mew who rescued the younger brother. The Mythical Pokemon bestowed upon him a powerful ability: One for All! An incredible power boost for the trainer and his Pokemon. However, he still wasn't strong enough. Mew knew this added one last quirk to One for All." All Might stretched his arms out wide. The ability to stockpile strength and pass it down! That is the origin of our power."
Izuku was a bit overwhelmed by all of this information. He didn't really know what to think. He had learned about the origins of One for All, yes, but he also learned of an extremely terrifying Villain… but surely…
"I understand how our power started now, but why are you telling me about a Villain from such a long time ago? He has to be dead now, right?" All Might shook his head. "Unfortunately, All for One's experiments even extended to himself. Using some leftover DNA from Mew, he achieved something thought to be impossible: immortality."
Immortality?! That… there was no way… that meant that All for One was still alive to this day… What did that mean for society as a whole?
"The younger brother knew he wasn't powerful enough, so he passed on this power, knowing it would get stronger with every user. He trusted that one day, this power would grow strong enough for one holder to finally beat All for One. That holder… was me." He held up his shirt and showed Izuku the deep wound he had. "I finally beat All for One, but in return, I was severely wounded. To make matters worse, he's still alive, and now he's acting as the brains behind the League of Villains!"
Everything was finally falling into place. The Nomu, the USJ incident, Stain, Tomura Shigaraki, their goal to kill All Might, everything. It was finally beginning to make sense.
All Might stood up and looked out the window. "One for All was a power granted to defeat All for One. Someday, you'll be forced to face this great evil." Those were the words Izuku knew he would inevitably hear. It was terrifying, even just hearing about All for One's power… it was scary. Still… he was now the holder of One for All.
"It may sound harsh-"
"I'll do it." Izuku cut All Might off and stood up. "As the Ninth Holder of One for All, I'll do whatever it takes! As long as you're with me, I can do anything! I know I can." He said.
All Might only sadly looked at the boy. The Hero was filled with distress. He needed to tell Izuku… he needed to tell him... "Thank you." Was all he managed to say. As he watched Izuku walk away, he couldn't help but feel terrible.
He couldn't tell his successor… by that time… the time when Izuku would need to face All for One himself… All Might may not be able to stand by his side anymore.
Just as they had feared, All for One truly wasn't dead. He lurked inside a hidden base where he acted as the true mastermind behind the League of Villains. "Tomura Shigaraki will be placed in a position where he will unify all of these new followers." The Villain said.
A doctor smiled as he handed All for One his medicine. "I think it would be best if you appear before them yourself, master. You haven't exactly given Young Shigaraki an easy task." He said.
"I'll make him struggle. One day, there will come a time when I am no longer here. When that time comes, he'll become the next All for One."
