1 week later

Jane had been withdrawn all week, causing concern among family and friends. She had even started staying at her apartment again. She had the most contact with Maura, but even that was limited. Maura had started dropping by after work, mainly to drop off food and keep a check on her. More than once she had heard Jane, locked in the bathroom, crying. She refused to let Maura in.

"Jane, I love you. I am going to leave your food on the stove. Please eat it and call me later, ok?"

She heard Jane blowing her nose and then a feeble voice, "Don't go. Please." She heard the door unlock and saw it open a crack.

Maura carefully opened the door and found Jane sitting on the floor with her knees at her chest, wadded tissues all around her.

"Jane?" Maura sat down beside her and put her arm around the detective. Jane leaned into her and started crying again. Maura kissed her temple. "Talk to me Jane."

Jane blew her nose again and wiped her tears away. "I really wanted my baby." She looked at Maura with her tear stained face. "And I didn't want it either."

That caught Maura by surprise. "Jane?" She tilted her head up. "Tell me."

"That baby was created in a moment of love. I loved Casey, and while it was totally unplanned, I was ok. It was like getting something you didn't know you wanted, until you got it." She shrugged. "At the same time, it was not convenient and we were both too invested in our careers. I love being a detective. It's a huge part of who I am." She shook her head. "How is that fair to a child? The miscarriage was a..."

Maura finished for her, "Relief?" Jane nodded. "It's ok to feel that way Jane."

"Yeah?" Maura nodded.

"Have you ever talked to Casey about this?"

Jane shook her head. "No. I just told him I had lost the baby, he said he was sorry and we never discussed it again."

"Oh Jane." She helped the detective up. "Let's get you fed and then home."

Jane smiled. "Home. I like the sound of that."

That night, they didn't make love. Instead Maura held Jane all night, stroking her back and reassuring her. Jane clung to her like a small child.

After a less than restful night's sleep, Maura awoke to Jane staring at her.

"Are you?"

"Yeah, just thinking."

"About?"

"How much I love you and how I want everybody to know I love you."

"So you are ready to make us workplace official?" Jane nodded. "Ok. Today?"

Jane smiled. "Today. Let's shower." At Maura's dubious look she clarified, "Just shower."

On the way to work they actually decided to call a meeting at the Dirty Robber that night so they could celebrate properly.

Jane had called Angela to let her know what was up and held the phone out when she screamed with delight. Maura chuckled at Jane's look.

"She's just happy for us, Jane."

"She just wants us all married off. She had Tommy married off, but he gave her a grandchild, and now Frankie and Nina. That just leaves me to get married off."

Maura had to swerve after Jane's comment. She nearly ran them off the road before regaining control of the car.

"Maura, what the Hell?"

Maura pulled the car over. "Did you hear what you just said? Do you want to be married off?"

"Oh. Yeah, just heard that. Let's talk about that later."

The rest of the ride to work was silent. Once inside BPD, they went their separate ways. The day crawled by, with neither woman leaving their work areas until quitting time. They met outside the elevator's and greeted each other as they always had.

Jane had thought about what she had said to Maura, and tried to figure out if she wanted to be married to Maura or anyone. She finally came up with having to talk to Maura.

Maura had tried not to think about marriage to Jane, or anybody else. She had long believed she was not made for marriage, but that was before Jane became an option. She had pushed those thoughts to the back of her mind. She finally decided this required a deeper conversation with Jane.

They walked over to the Dirty Robber. Before they walked into the bar, Jane pulled Maura to the side anf asked, "Still good with this?"

Maura nodded. "I am. You?"

Jane nodded. They each took a deep breath and walked inside. Korsak, Kiki, Frankie, Nina, Tommy and TJ, and Angela were all there. Angela was smiling as they made their way to the table.

Jane took the lead. "Hey everybody." She licked her lips and glanced at Maura. Maura smiled at her, nodded and slipped her hand into Jane's. "Maura and I wanted to tell you all that we are a...couple." To emphasize the point, she bent and kissed Maura, who stroked her face.

It did not go unnoticed by either woman that money was changing hands and high-fives were being exchanged.

Frankie was the first to speak. "Finally! We've all been waiting for you two to figure this out. Congrats!"

Tommy started laughing. At Angela's slap against his head, Tommy said, "Maura, you have now kissed all the Rizzoli siblings!"

Everyone laughed at that. Everyone except Jane and Maura. Maura looked embarrassed and Jane looked constipated.

Maura's House

"They had a pool on us Maura!"

"Yes, they did."

Jane grabbed a beer and flopped down on the couch. Maura joined her and ended up with her head in Jane's lap. They had the TV on, but neither woman was really watching.

"Maura?"

"Hmm?"

"So...I've been doing some research and reading."

When Jane didn't immediately answer, Maura prompted her. "About?"

"Uh,...lesbian sex. And stuff."

"...and?"

"So do you have any...toys you like to use?"

"Yes."

"Care to share?"

Maura turned so that she was looking up at Jane.

"I'd rather talk about marriage, but if you must know, I enjoy vibrator play, dildo and strap on. I don't do nipple clips or clit clips. Light bondage on the rare occasion. You?"

"Wow. Uh, aside from my own vibrator, nothing like that. My sex life has been pretty vanilla."

"We can change that." Maura smiled up at her.

Jane absently nodded before blurting out, "Do you want to get married?"
