And to everyone who commented suggestions on how I can improve, even if it was hard to hear, thank you. I'll work on becoming a better person.

And PS…if your name is Gracie and you left a guest review, can you PM me? Either here or Twitter, I don't care. :) I'd really like to talk to you but it's a guest review so I can't reply directly to it.

Jay kept his hand on Hailey's back as he reached past her to open the front door.

"I'm okay, Jay," Hailey breathed.

"You're letting me take care of you today, don't even think about fighting me," Jay said.

Drew spun around on the couch to look at them, "I just beat Uncle Will at Mario Kart."

Jay chuckled and nodded, "That's really cool."

Will's eyes narrowed in on them and the way Hailey was subconsciously leaning back into Jay with a hand on her side.

Drew sat up on his knees and leaned over the back cushions, "Did you catch the criminals?"

Hailey smiled, "We did."

"Yes," Drew whispered, "My parents are so cool."

Hailey laughed as she walked over and carefully lowered herself on the couch next to him with a soft groan.

"Are you okay?" Drew asked.

"Um, just took a tumble," Hailey said as she sank into the cushions, "Where's your brother?"

Drew's head snapped to Jay and he set his jaw, "What have we said?"

"Drew Alexander!" Hailey sat up, "Enough!"

"What?" Drew asked.

Hailey raised an eyebrow, "Your dad is not to blame at all for this. Be nice."

"You…you got hurt though," Drew said quietly.

"Listen," Jay took a deep breath and walked to kneel in front of Drew, "I want to protect Mom with everything inside of me just like how she wants to protect me and how we both want to protect you and Blake; sometimes its just really hard to do. I'm angry like you about what happened today, I promise you that, but we have to put that anger away right now and help Mom out, sound good?"

Drew sighed and looked between him and Hailey then toward Will and shrugged.

"Please," Jay lightly squeezed Drew's knee.

Drew stared at Jay as he thought about everything he'd said before slowly nodding, "Okay."

"Okay," Jay repeated with a small smile, "Great."

Drew smiled back slightly and turned to Hailey, "Can I help you?"

Hailey relaxed, "That would be really nice. Want to go fill an icepack for me?"

"Yup," Drew hurried off the couch and ran to the kitchen.

Will cleared his throat and scratched the back of his head, "To answer your earlier question, Blake's taking a nap. What happened to you though? Is everything really okay?"

"One of the guys got a hold of me and threw me into a wall," Hailey said with a shrug, "It…well," she glanced back toward the kitchen then to Jay. She bit her lip over a small smile and tilted her head to the side.

Jay chuckled and shook his head, "Six weeks, Hailey. That's not a long time."

"He's a doctor," she whispered back.

A smirk grew on Will's face, "Shut up."

"And your brother," Hailey continued.

Jay blew out a breath and looked at Will who could hardly stop bouncing in his seat.

"Just say it," Will said.

Jay laughed, "Yeah, fine, okay, she's pregnant, so-"

"Oh my god," Will lunged over at Jay and hugged him tightly before doing the same to Hailey.

"Ow, ow," Hailey laughed and gently pushed him away, "Careful. Wall thing really happened."

"Sorry, sorry," Will moved to the coffee table, "I'm just…wow, that is awesome, really. So the baby's okay then?"

Hailey nodded, "Jay pretty much forced Sylvie Brett to take us to the hospital in the ambulance then Natalie checked me out. We actually heard the heartbeat for the first time."

Will looked to Jay, "Did you cry? I bet you did."

Jay rolled his eyes, "I…yeah, I cried."

"Because of what?" Drew asked as he returned to the living room with the filled icepack. He sat next to Hailey and passed it to her.

"Thank you, sweetheart," Hailey said before pressing the ice to her side. She closed her eyes and tilted her head back against the couch.

"I was just really happy that Mom was okay," Jay tugged Drew to his side.

Drew smiled, "Me too."

"So, you beat Uncle Will?" Jay smirked.

Drew's eyes lit up and he nodded quickly, "It was so funny."

Jay laughed and glanced toward Will, "Did you think it was funny?"

Will rolled his eyes, but chuckled, "He was good. I'm impressed."

"Can we play again?" Drew asked, his eyes flickering to the controllers on the coffee table, "Maybe all three of us?"

"Not Mom?" Jay walked over to grab a third controller from the box under the TV.

"Mom wants to nap," Hailey mumbled.

Drew nodded, "Yeah, Mom needs to relax." He smiled at Hailey even though her eyes were closed then lightly stroked his hand over her hair.

Hailey opened one eye to smile at him.

Drew blushed, "You like when Dad does this to you."

"I do," Hailey nodded and squeezed his other hand, "Thank you."

Drew's smile widened, "You're welcome." He played with her hair for another minute as he waited for Jay to finish setting up the game on the TV then happily grabbed his controller to play.

Will laughed under his breath as he leaned back in the recliner. He caught Jay's eye and winked with a nod toward Drew.

He was still incredibly focused on waiting for the game to start, but had his free hand lightly patting Hailey's arm.

Jay smiled and settled back in the couch, "Buddy?"

"Yeah?" Drew glanced at him.

Jay lightly nudged his shoulder against Drew's, "Thank you for helping take care of Mom."

"I love Mom," Drew shrugged, "So I need to take care of her."

Hailey hummed softly at his words and responded by squeezing his leg.

"See?" Drew asked Jay, "It makes her happy, so I'm happy."

Jay shook his head and quickly kissed the side of Drew's head, "We're lucky to have you."

Drew blushed and was just about to wipe the side of his head when he took a deep breath once Jay's words had sunk in. He smiled, "I'm lucky to be here."

Jay chuckled and started the game kicking his feet up on the coffee table.

Drew watched and tried to do the same, but his legs wouldn't quite reach, so he settled for twisting himself sideways and resting his feet on Jay's legs while he played.

Hailey bit her lip and tried gathering herself outside of Drew's room. Behind the door, she could hear Jay helping him get his pajamas on after his shower. They were debating what Drew could wear the next day: Drew wanted to wear a sweatshirt, Jay was trying to tell him it was too warm for that, Drew tried compromising with shorts, Jay suggested a different outfit, and then the whole cycle continued. Hailey normally would have thought it was incredibly cute, but the stress from the day was still weighing on her.

She could have lost the baby. It just reiterated to her that she was making the right choice to step down for the time being. She knew in her heart that she'd eventually return to the 21st district and to Intelligence, but right now her family needed her and that was okay. She wasn't lying when she'd said to Jay early that morning that she was excited.

She needed to tell Drew though. She knew he wasn't the biggest fan of change, but she was hoping that this would be a good change that he'd like.

Blake could probably care less right now.

Hailey smiled to herself then knocked on the bedroom door before opening it, "Can I come in?"

"Yeah," Drew quickly got under the covers of his bed, "We were just talking about what I can wear tomorrow."

Hailey laughed softly, "I heard. Well," she looked to Jay setting out the sweatshirt and shorts on the ground by the closet, "We'll just see what the weather's like tomorrow. It's Sunday, so-"

"We're going on a walk," Drew smiled, "I love Sundays."

Hailey sat on the edge of his mattress, "I love Sundays too. Morning walks are the best."

Jay leaned over the end of the bed and looked at Drew, "Your clothes are out, but we might change the outfit in the morning if we have to. Okay?"

Drew breathed in then sighed, "Fine."

"Thank you," Jay patted Drew's leg over the blankets, "All right, goodnight. Sleep tight. I love you."

Drew waved at him, "I love you too."

Jay smiled and kissed the top of Hailey's head before walking out of the room.

"I picked out a book," Drew pointed to the book on the ground near Hailey's feet.

"Oh, I like this one," Hailey picked it up, "Okay, I'll read it in a bit. First, I want to talk to you about something."

"Are you still in pain?" Drew reached over to lightly touch Hailey's back.

"I'm okay," Hailey smiled, "This actually is a good thing I want to talk about."

"Oh, that's good," Drew nodded and sat up against his pillows.

Hailey took another deep breath then held Drew's hand, "What do you think about me not working anymore and staying home with you and Blake?"

Drew's eyes flashed something, maybe excitement, and he quickly asked, "So no more school?"

Hailey couldn't help but laugh and said, "No, no, you'd still go to school, but I'd be there to pick you up everyday and during the day, I'd be here with Blake."

"Hmm," Drew slowly nodded then shrugged, "I guess that's fine. Are you still a detective?"

"Yeah, I'll still be a detective," Hailey pulled her feet up on the bed to cross her legs, "But I think I'm going to stop working for a couple years and then I'll go back and be a detective again."

"So is Dad going to have to catch all the criminals?" Drew asked.

Hailey smiled, "Yeah, don't forget, though, who he works with. Everyone at our job works together. It'll be okay that I'm not there."

"Well," Drew laid back down, "All right."

"All right?" Hailey raised an eyebrow.

"Yeah," Drew shrugged, "Is it going to make you happy?"

Hailey stared at him. He'd been talking about happiness a lot and what it meant to be happy. She thought it was cute and it certainly helped her own outlook on life.

"It will," Hailey said softly, "I think I'm going to be really happy." She smiled at him and set a hand on her stomach.

Drew smiled back, "Then okay."

Hailey laughed and scooted closer to him to hug him tightly, "I love you."

Drew laughed with her, "I love you too, but what are you doing?"

Hailey kissed the top of his head, "Just loving on you. Is that okay?"

"Of course, but…you're squishing me," Drew said.

Hailey shook her head with a laugh and kissed him one last time before pulling away and opening the book, "All right, ready for this?"

Drew nodded, "Definitely." He tugged the blankets over himself and curled up on his side to listen to Hailey as she read softly.

By the time she had finished the book, Drew's eyes were drooping and he couldn't stop yawning. Hailey laughed softly and kissed his forehead before whispering, "Goodnight, baby boy."

Drew hummed quietly and rubbed a hand over his eyes tiredly.

Hailey smiled at him then left the room to head into her bedroom where Jay was rocking Blake against his bare chest.

"Hey," he said quietly, "I think he's getting another tooth because he's really not doing too great right now."

Hailey sighed while sitting on the bed and gently pulled the blanket off of Blake to see him weakly chewing on a teething ring while whimpering quietly.

She shook her head, "I hate this."

"I know," Jay breathed out, "Can't wait for it to be over."

Hailey shook her head and tucked the blanket back around Blake, "Just think, by the time he's done teething, our other little will probably be right in the thick of it."

Jay chuckled, "We've caught ourselves in quite the circle, huh?"

Hailey smiled slightly, "Yeah, but…"

Jay nodded and released one of his hands from Blake to set it on Hailey's stomach, "I know. I'm very grateful for this baby, especially after today."

"Me too," Hailey pressed a soft kiss to his shoulder.

"But I have to ask, one last time," Jay started and waited for Hailey to meet his eyes to say, "Are you absolutely sure that you want to stop working? I am completely okay with whatever the answer is."

Hailey smiled at the nerves shining across his face and nodded, "I'm sure. This case brought all the closure I needed. I think I'm set for the next couple years."

Jay relaxed and nodded, "Okay. All right. Well," he looked down at Blake and smiled, "Let's do this then, huh? New chapter."

"Exactly," Hailey said softly and rested her head on his shoulder to watch Blake as well. No regrets.
