Chapter Eleven: Omega

City Hall

"In light of the recent events, my stepping down may seem suspicious," said Chief Bogo as reporters surrounded the podium, "but rest assured, in spite of the tragic loss of life that this city has seen over the last few days under these so called Joker attacks, the suspect has been confirmed deceased and all accomplices either killed or captured. When I first met Mrs. Wilde," he continued, "she was a cocky idealist, who absolutely wanted to 'make the world a better place' as she said repeatedly."

The whole room laughed a little, even Judy. "But no," siad Bogo, "after nearly firing her, only to be pressured into letting solve a case when she was way in over her head, she and a certain shifty fox proved themselves to be two of the greatest lawmammals this city has ever seen. So, while I may be getting too old for this job, I see that one of my very best should take my place. Mrs. Judy Wilde." The entire audience began to clap as Judy climbed up behind the podium.

"Hello everyone," said Judy, "I'd like to thank you all for coming here from whatever manufactured scandal you are covering." Nick would be laughing his ass off right now, she thought to herself. "Today, we honor the sacrifices of our brave mammals in uniform who risked it all to protect our city and country from the forces of evil," she spoke, "my husband risked it all so our son could live to see adulthood. It wouldn't be the first time, but this time was different. I promise, as the new head of Precinct One to prevent tragedies like this from ever occurring, to the best of my ability. No gangbanger, drug dealer, terrorist or psycho will stand in our way of a safe, prosperous Zootopia. Sleep well tonight, as public safety in Zootopia with the ZPD under my command will never be a laughing matter. With God as my witness, I will protect and serve all of you."

Meadowlands

It was late at night, about two hours past Nick Jr.'s bed time, but that didn't stop the young fox-bunny from waiting by the door for his mother to come home. As he saw the headlights of his mother's SUV, he came barging out the front door. "Mom, Mom," he shouted as he ran up to the now parked car, "you're finally home!" "Good to see you two Junior," said Judy as she hugged her son, "but aren't you supposed to be in bed now?" "Like that stopped me," said Nick Jr. "Yep," said Judy aloud, "like father, like son."

"Are you still mad at Dad over what happened," asked Nick Jr. "No son," said Judy, "he didn't pull the trigger. He did make the choice though, and it wasn't the first time." "Is that what those scars were from," asked Nick Jr. "So you want to know how I got these scars, huh," said Nick Sr. as he wheeled himself out the front door. "Oh Nick," said Judy, "you nearly gave me a heart attack." "Like in the church tower," asked Nick. "And Yakatomi Tower," said Judy, "and the airport, and plenty of those other times. Since you won't be doing any walking anytime soon though," she playfully grabbed Nick by the tie, "I can have you wherever I want." "Damn," said Nick, "first night as chief and you already have a power complex. Police brutality anyone?"

"You've always been my kind of jerk," said Judy. "You've always been my kind of lady," said Nick, "and you just wait till I get out of this wheelchair, I'll show you a good time." "You sly fox," said Judy. "Dumb bunny," said Nick, "you know you love me." "Do I know that," asked Judy playfully as she prepared to kiss him, "yes, yes I do." She kissed her husband on the lips, which reminded the broken, battered Nick, of all the reasons why he'd take a bullet for this one bunny.
