Chapter nine
" Will you just..." Yi Jeong 's voice trailed off with a sigh as Ga Eul kept staring at the magnificent chandelier hanging above her head. They were dining in one of the most exclusive restaurants in all Korea with an interior decorated in all kinds of early modern European art.
" Sunbae...do you see that?" Ga Eul exclaimed pointing at the ceiling, " are they Angels?" Ga Eul asked with her mouth opened with amaze.
" Ye.." Yi Jeong let out a sigh, " probably..." he pretended to be calmly slicing his foe grass. He let out a sigh at Ga Eul who was still staring at the ceiling with her mouth opened.
" Shall I tell the waiter to take your plate away ?"
" Boh?" Ga Eul shot her sight at Yi Jeong, who did not care to look up at her but kept on slicing the meat.
" It looks as if Ga Eulyang has lost your appetite.." He lifted his face, finally meeting her eyes.
" ha?..ah ani..ani.." Ga Eul was babbling, and when she took the fork Yi Jeong smiled at last seeing her act normal. The smile became a soft chuckle as he saw her attempt to elegantly slice the meat, despite of her unfamiliar hands holding the knife all wrong.
Ga Eul gave him a look, " what is so funny?"
" Ani.. its just... Ga Eulyang is holding the knife in the wrong hand..." the smile never left Yi Jeong's face though Ga Eul turned red and immediately switched the knife to the other hand.
" Its.. just.. that... I forgot.. because Sunbae told that Sunbae would call the waiter..." , her voice lowered, " it's a crime to waste such good food..." and she stuffed a piece in her mouth while Yi Jeong pursed his lips controlling his smirk.
" Wae?" Ga Eul asked in a complaining tone.
" ani .." Yi Jeong shook his head switching his attention back to his own plate. He was finished slicing it already. He looked at Ga Eul,
" Ga Eulyang..", he stood up and came around the table to reach for Ga Eul's plate. He took hers and placed his plate on the position instead, while Ga Eul sat there eying shyly at all the couples and especially women who were staring daggers at them.
After Yi Jeong calmly sat again at his position, as if pretending that nothing had happened,
" Sunbae.." it was only slightly louder than a whisper. " Sunbae told that Sunbae won't do that again..." she whispered to herself with her head lowered as if to make her curled hair, curtain her blushing face from the staring people.
" Boh? Switching plates?" Yi Jeong had a bite, before continuing, " I was just afraid... that Ga Eulyang may send it flying across the hall, just like that tomato the last time..." he let out a smirk sparing a glance at her face which was now even redder than a ripe tomato it self. " after all... it is a crime to waste such good food..."
Ga Eul shot a glare at the smirking Yi Jeong.
" That wasn't a tomato but an olive!" she shot a smile, that one she does with shutting her eyes and lips spreading across her cheeks to display nothing but her annoyance.
" Boh?... I really thought that was a tomato.." Yi Jeong plastered a thoughtful look.
" What kind of an idiot who can't say between a tomato and an olive?"
" Maybe that kind of idiot who dates a complaining kindergartener when there are a lot of hot models waiting in the line.."
Ga Eul went silent for a moment and Yi Jeong thought that maybe he had gone too far,
" Arasso..." he let out a sigh, " then maybe it was an olive.." which made Ga Eul to shoot another glare at him. " but... does Ga Eulyang remember where it landed?" he asked with another smirk and Ga Eul blushed in to deeper shades of red,
" Sunbae..." she managed to let out a squeak in her utterly embarrassed state. Yi Jeong let out another smirk and continued with his dinner and Ga Eul kept glaring at him.
" Shall I call the waiter_"
"_ Anniyo.. let's eat!" Ga Eul uttered in a rather loud voice and took the glass of wine and emptied it with a few gulps. Yi Jeong stared at her for another few moments, amused at her sudden reactions and chose to fill the rest of the date with only compliments and silence.
Yi Jeong was enjoying his time though. Even when he was teasing her or complimenting her. He never cared about the other people staring at them though he much used the environment to make Ga Eul feel uneasy and enjoyed the way she blushed at his every little act. After all he couldn't do anything like that if not for the crowd around them. The dinner was peaceful for the rest of the hours and the real problem began when they were heading out to the parking lot, when Ga Eul began throwing up the whole dinner. Yi Jeong was worried and went to her side.
" Gwaen-chana?"
" Ani..." Ga Eul told while attempting to swallow the rest of the dinner rising from her throat. "I.. almost forgot... I am allergic to foe grass.."
" Boh?... but that day..." Yi Jeong again trailed off as he wasn't comfortable of reminding their first date in which he introduced Ga Eul to his abeoujji, as the supposed introduction went horribly wrong.
" That day..." Ga Eul again spoke amidst the throwing up. " I didn't eat it remember?..."
" Ye... you just washed my face with your glass of water..."
" I should have thrown the glass as well..." Yi Jeong smirked at her comment though his eyes were closed while holding back her hair.
" To think about it... it was better that it ended that way..." Ga Eul puked again.
"Wae?"
" Or else it wouldn't have been water that I'd be throwing at Sunbae's face..."
" Agh!... gross" Yi Jeong shook his head trying to chase away the thought. Ga Eul straightened at last throwing the whole dinner out and took a tissue from her purse to wipe her mouth. And Yi Jeong slowly opened his eyes
" I found it out about two weeks after that incident..." Ga Eul smiled benevolently.
" Agh!.. you should have simply told that before..."
" I forgot.."
"Boh?" Yi Jeong rolled his eyes, " how could you.. agh! Never mind.. just get in the car..." He was already heading to the car when they found a middle aged fat lady giggling at them, standing by her car which was parked along side of theirs. She was wearing an evening gown, probably came for a dinner with her husband who was a tall thin man at his sixties and for whom she was whispering something. Yi Jeong ignored her and lead Ga Eul to the door which was held open by their chauffeur. But the overly excited fat lady stopped Ga Eul, holding her by the shoulder and giggled even more.
" I bet it is your first time.."
"Deh?" Ga Eul was genuinely confused .
" After all... your husband takes good care of you..." the woman continued. And Yi Jeong and Ga Eul exchanged a look,
" ah... we are actually.. not ..yet..." Yi Jeong tried to correct her misunderstanding.
" oh!.. don't worry..." she patted Yi Jeong 's cheek. " After all... those things are common in the first months of pregnancy..."
" eh?" both Ga Eul and Yi Jeong exclaimed in unison.
" Ah... ani...ani...ani...ani... it's not something like that.." Ga Eul waved her hands and laughed uncomfortably. Yi Jeong on the other hand was almost choking trying to hold back his laughter. And despite Ga Eul's strong denial, the woman congratulated them and got into her car which drove off to the night.
Yi Jeong smirked at Ga Eul who shot a murderous glare at him.
" This is all your fault!"
" Boh? The pregnancy?" Yi Jeong smirked again. Ga Eul rolled her eyes and jerked his hand to get in to the car.
" This is why I hate your dates!" she uttered boldly.
" it wasn't dating actually..." Yi Jeong shifted his sight from the passing vehicles to Ga Eul, " more likely taking a third grader in a field trip.." Ga Eul shot a look and crossed her arms shifting her sight back to the passing pedestrians.
" Jeez... how could those people... we haven't even been like that yet..." it was a loud thought, which made Yi Jeong smirk again,
" Like what?" Ga Eul awoke from her thoughts and turned her head to meet an Yi Jeong who had plastered a confused look.
" Ga Eulyang..." his lips twisted in to a teasing grin, " what exactly were you are thinking about?"
" What was I really thinking?... agh!" Ga Eul palmed her face and the kindergarteners kept staring at their teacher's sudden reaction. Though it had almost been four days after that embarrassing date, Ga Eul still couldn't shake off the thought of that grinning Yi Jeong teasing her to death. All those four days she spend cursing herself for thinking such a thing and moreover spelling it out that loudly.
She slowly uncovered her face and blinked back to her senses. Her students were staring at her and she smiled at them asking them to concentrate on the clay. Much to her relief the bell for recess rang only a short while after, so she'd be left alone to think a way to forget that night. Han Jae stepped in just then and asked her why she was that disturbed. Ga Eul told her the whole story and they both sat at the little table staring blankly at the nothingness.
" agh... its obvious why she misunderstood..." Han Jae broke the silence at the end,
" I mean... she might probably have heard your conversation..." Ga Eul kept her blank stare while Han Jae continued, " ... I found it out two weeks after the incident and why didn't you tell me that before and oh! I forgot to tell you... " she cross played their dialogue,
" it really sounds like a wife announcing her pregnancy..." she let out a sigh.
" The real problem would happen... if in any case that would get published in a gossip magazine..." she let out another sigh and Ga Eul shot her a glare.
" Aren't you supposed to help me feel better?"
" Boh? I was just telling the truth..." Han Jae defended herself. " if in any case that would happen... Ga Eul sshi would better get pregnant in real.."
"Eh?"
" I mean... if that would happen of course he would have no choice but to marry you..."
And Ga Eul flashed her smile of annoyance before standing up to leave the class.
" You are not going to get this golden advice from anyone else .. I'll tell you that... I am telling this for your own good..." Ga Eul let out a sigh as Han Jae kept yelling all those nonsense while she lead herself out from the class.
" What if it would really get published?" the thought conquered her mind as she strolled through the corridors leading to the small back garden of the kindergarten.
It was just then a boy bumped in to her. Ga Eul noticed the little boy was crying and she knelt down immediately to see whether he was hurt.
" Gwaen -chana?" she asked wiping his tears and the boy nodded in response still not stopping his crying.
" waeyo?" Ga Eul asked concerned.
" Saseongnimae.. Min Soo... Min Soo.. fell from the swing..."
" Boh?"
And with that Ga Eul rushed to the playing area. By the time she reached there she found a little crowd of kindergarteners gathered around the swing and heard a loud crying. The children parted to make way and Ga Eul ran through to the crying boy who had broken his nose and hurt his forehead. Another few teachers came running and Ga Eul asked them to call his parents while she volunteered to take him to a doctor. She took him to the nearest clinic and waited for the doctor to examine him. There were two nurses one probably at her mid thirties and another who was about Ga Eul's age. They aided the doctor while he examined the wounded boy.
" Are you a relative?"
" Ani.. I am just a supporting teacher at his kindergarten..." Ga Eul answered.
" You'd better inform his parents quick... he'll have to take a plastic surgery..."
" Eh?" Ga Eul was in pure shock. And the younger nurse spoke out as politely as she could,
" But don't you think cleaning up the wounds and a few stitches would be enough?" she suggested the doctor, who eyed her from head to toe in disgust.
" aigoo... who do you think you are to question my decisions?" the doctor raised his voice causing the nurse to flinch and drop the bottle of antiseptic to the ground .
"Clean up that mess.." The doctor gestured at the broken pieces of glass, " or I'll charge it from your salary.."
The nurse and Ga Eul exchanged a look while the doctor lead himself out with the older nurse, to see another patient . And once the doctor was far enough not to hear them, the young nurse called Ga Eul,
" umm..." she hesitated for a moment, " I think its better you would go for a second opinion..."
" Eh?" Ga Eul was enough shocked for a day.
" I mean... Mister Kim... isn't a bad person...he isn't a bad person...but" the nurse kept hesitating, " when it comes to things like this..."
" What do you mean.. as things like this..? " Ga Eul questioned.
" You'd just better take a second opinion " the nurse blurted out and ran out of the room.
Ga Eul stared for a moment at blankness and went to Min Soo, and stroked his hair, soothing him. She made a call to Yi Jeong and told him what happened and waited till Yi Jeong came with Jihoo.
As for that clumsy nurse, she managed to bump in to Jihoo the moment he first stepped in to the clinic.
A/N:
And that would be an introduction to Jihoo 's girlfriend...
