Cherry was conflicted, for the last week she had kept a low profile. The Cullens had magically disappeared as soon as Forks had gotten a nice few days of sun. Jasper hadn't talked to her much except for one text that had said he was going camping with his family to take advantage of the sun and looked forward to seeing her when they returned.
Forks was now back to it's regular gloomy weather and with it's return meant the return of the Cullen's.
Which lead her to now... standing in front of her window staring at a simple text from Jasper.
"Can I drive you to school today?"
The answer should have been simple and easy but Cherry had a knack for making things anything but, thus leading to her current state of confliction.
After thinking on it for a few more minutes, she finally sent Jasper back a simple "yes" and went on getting ready for her day.
Jasper was an enigma. He was quiet but friendly and sometimes he was talkative but other times abrupt. Most of all she was confused by his intensity. It made her mind flash back to when she had her confrontation with that asshole in the cafeteria. Jasper had stuck up for her, he was angry on her behalf. Jasper had come to check on her, to see if she was okay. Cherry couldn't help but remember the words they exchanged in the school's parking lot.
"The way he talked to you, nobody will ever talk to you like that again. I swear it."
"You don't even know me, why does is matter to you?"
"I would defend you against anyone."
"I don't understand"
"Eventually you will, but for now just trust me."
Things were getting more strange by the second, but she supposed that until she could figure out more information that her only option was to keeping living her life and see what happens.
Cherry pulled herself from her thoughts and walked out of her room and into the kitchen where Bella was sitting and eating an apple.
"Morning, Bells. Get any sleep last night?" Cherry asked while she rummaged through the fridge.
"Sleep isn't the problem, it's the dreams I have while I sleep that keep me up." Bella muttered darkly.
Cherry shut the fridge door and raised an eyebrow at her sister. "Dreams huh?"
Bella nodded, "Weird dreams staring the latest of both of our obsessions."
"The Cullens then? Or is it just one Cullen in particular that has a star role in all of your dreams?" Cherry teased.
Bella turned red and glared at her sister. "I don't want to hear it. You talk to Jasper more than I talk to Edward."
"Only because he is avoiding you after your car accident." Cherry defended.
Bella huffed. "Shut up, Cher."
Cherry heard a knock on the door that knocked her and Bella out of their banter.
"Well that will be Jasper here to take me to school." Cherry said tentatively as if she was judging Bella's reaction.
Bella didn't disappoint. Her eyes widened and her posture went stiff. "Are you sure that's a good idea?"
Cherry would have laughed at her sister if she wasn't so worried that Bella was right.
"I can't explain it, Bella. But I still want to be around Jasper and get to know him and this is a good chance to do so."
Bella didn't argue, how could she? Bella was also harboring some weird feelings for a Cullen all of her own.
Cherry hugged her sister quickly before going to the door and opening it.
Jasper was standing there with a smile on his face and his hands casually in his pockets.
"Morning, Cherry." He drawled at her.
Cherry felt her face start to blush in their usual routine. "Good morning, Jasper. Thank you for the ride to school."
He nodded as he took her backpack off her shoulder. "Any excuse to spend some more time with you, Cherry."
Cherry smiled at his words, she wouldn't admit it but she felt the same way about spending time with him.
"I hope you don't mind, but we are riding to school with my siblings today." He told her.
Cherry felt her eyebrows raise in surprise. Did she mind? Not really, a large part of her was very curious about the other Cullens she had yet to meet. However there was a small part of her brain that remembered Jared's words from the night of the bonfire, and that put her on edge.
Cherry felt her nerves die down and be replaced with a calm and tranquil feeling, she could do this.
Cherry smiled brightly at Jasper, "Of course, Jasper. Besides it'll be nice to meet your other siblings considering I've only met Alice."
Jasper gestured to a large red Jeep that was parked in front of her driveway.
Cherry whistled lowly, "How did I miss that before?"
Jasper laughed at the look of awe on her face. "Emmett is very proud of his Jeep."
"Well I fucking bet when it looks like that. I don't think I've ever seen it at school before." Cherry said as Jasper opened the back door for her to slide in.
"Eddie usually makes us carpool but I like any excuse to drive my Jeep instead of his pussy woman car." Emmett said from the front seat.
Cherry laughed at his teasing at Edward's expense.
"If we really wanted to go in style we would have taken my car but Emmett wouldn't stop whining about never getting to drive his." Rosalie said breezily.
Honestly Cherry was surprised she said anything, Rosalie definitely gave off an I hate the world and all of its inhabitants kind of type of vibe.
"Come on Rosie, I'm a big guy! it's hard to fit in your tiny little sports car." Emmett reasoned.
Jasper leaned over and put his mouth by Cherry's ear. The feel of him so close made her chest seize up and she could swear her heart skipped a beat.
"In case you were wondering, they are always like this." He whispered quietly.
Cherry let out a quiet laugh and shrugged. "I think it's entertaining."
Rosalie and Emmett were in a quiet conversation all of their own and that left Cherry to focus her attention fully on the man beside her.
"Did I tell you that you look beautiful today, Cherry?" Jasper asked quietly.
Cherry felt her face go red and she tried to call the blush of her cheeks. Jasper's eyes seemed to grow a shade darker at Cherry's reaction.
She composed herself and smiled at him. "You know, you haven't mentioned it today, but I do enjoy to hear it."
Jasper grinned at her. "A fan of compliments are we Miss. Swan?" He teased.
Cherry shrugged, "Flattery gets you everywhere in life, Mr. Hale. Didn't you know?" She joked.
Emmett laughed from the front seat. "She has a point there."
Rosalie stayed quiet but she didn't disagree or shoot Cherry any kind of sharp glance like Cherry thought she would. Well that was at least a step in the right direction. Rosalie had never exactly given Cherry a reason to think she didn't like her, but she wasn't very welcoming. So Cherry decided to just stay out of her way, Jasper's twin or not.
When they arrived at school Cherry could already see students staring their way. She couldn't help but think that stares seemed to follow the Cullen family wherever they went.
Emmett and Rosalie leaving the Jeep pulled her from her thoughts. She looked next to her to see Jasper staring at her intently.
"Why are you staring at me?" Cherry asked him quietly, almost as if she was attempting to not break the quiet atmosphere that had settled upon them.
The corner of Jasper's mouth pulled into a slight smile. "Honestly, these days I find myself wondering what you are thinking about quite often."
Cherry let out a small laugh at the unexpected confession. "Why don't you just ask me?"
Jasper raised his eyebrow at her, "Would you answer me truthfully?" He teased.
Cherry shrugged. "As truthfully as I could without embarrassing myself."
Jasper laughed and gestured to the door. "On that note Miss. Swan. I do believe it's time for class."
Cherry rolled her eyes and got out of the Jeep with Jasper right behind her.
Jasper and Cherry walked side by side into the student entrance of the building. It was nice to walk with Jasper she had decided. His presence was something she enjoyed, something that brought her comfort. Jasper radiated the energy of a strong and protective force, and she dwelled in it.
"Can I know what you're thinking right now?" Jasper asked curiously.
Cherry looked up at him and grinned. "I was just thinking that I enjoy your presence." She told him simply.
Jasper smiled softly at her, "I enjoy your presence too, Cherry."
Cherry was glad they were at her class because the shivers that went down her spine as Jasper said her name, were almost too much for her.
"Will I see you for lunch, Cherry?" Jasper asked her.
She smiled apologetically. "I'm sorry but I am in hot demand today, and Bella wants me to sit with her."
Jasper shrugged easily. "I'll see you in our last class then."
She nodded eagerly and with that Jasper turned and walked away.
Kendra was noticeably absent from Cherry's morning and so she snuck her phone out in first period to text her best friend.
"Why have you left me to deal with this place alone"
Cherry snickered at her own dramatics and sent the message before going about the rest of her classwork.
It wasn't until halfway though second period that Kendra had texted her back and told her that she came down with a nasty cold and was going to be out of commission for at least a day or two.
Cherry understood but also already missed the company of her best friend.
When lunch came around Cherry really wasn't looking forward to sitting with Bella and her friends. They were all harmless and nice enough, but they were also a little... annoying.
Cherry found her sister sitting next two two girls; Angela and Jessica. Which made her feel better seeing as all the boys who were currently crushing on her sister, weren't there. Bella was oblivious, but anybody could see that Mike, Eric, and Tyler were all after her affections. Not that any of them would succeed when Edward Cullen was around to distract her sister.
Cherry sat down next two her sister and smiled at her two friends. "Hey y'all, don't mind me. I'm just here to crash your lunch."
"Y'all?" Bella asked. "You've been spending too much time around Jasper." She joked.
Cherry waved her off and Jessica seemed to perk up at the mention of Jasper.
"Yeah it's like totally weird, nobody even knew Jasper had like a southern accent. I mean like hello that's totally hot." Jessica started to ramble.
Cherry felt irritation rise up in her chest and she tried her best to push that and the irrational jealously that had bubbled up in her chest away.
"So like are you and Jasper dating?" Jessica asked with wide eyes. "You guys spend like a lot of time together at school, yanno. So everyone has been wondering." She rambled. "And Bella over here won't say anything like at all." The girl whined.
Cherry almost toppled over with the force of the girls questioning.
"Sorry Jessica, nothing scandalous to report. We are just friends." Cherry told her.
Jessica deflated a little. "But you think he's hot right?"
Cherry shrugged, "I have eyeballs. Of course he's hot."
Jessica squealed a little, a sound that made Cherry cringe.
Before Jessica could go on another rant Angela interrupted her with the topic of the spring dance.
"I hope Mike asks me." Jessica said wistfully.
Bella snickered at her. "Isn't it a girl's choice dance?"
Jessica went red. "Well yeah, but what am I supposed to do? Just ask him myself?"
Angela laughed at her friend. "That's usually what girls choice means, Jess."
"Do you have anybody you want to ask, Bella?" Jessica questioned.
Bella froze up. "Uh, no. I actually have something going on that weekend... in Seattle." She finished lamely.
Cherry tried to hide her laughter. Bella had nothing going on in Seattle. She just didn't want to go to the dance and that was her lame on the spot excuse.
"What about you, Cherry?" Angela asked.
Cherry shook her head. "Nope, I'm going to be with Bella... in Seattle."
Cherry could hardly keep a straight face while looking at her sister who looked incredibly uncomfortable at that point.
Thankfully Angela decided to chime in again. "Jess and I were going to go to Port Angeles this afternoon to find dresses and get some dinner. Would you guys like to come with us anyways? We could use some help with our dresses."
Jessica nodded enthusiastically sending her curly hair all over the place. "Absolutely! I won't take no for an answer. It'll be so much fun!"
Bella agreed quickly which surprised everyone. Cherry shrugged. "Sure why not. I can use some time out of town."
So Jessica made plans for them all to go home and get ready. Then she would get Angela and then come and pick up Bella and Cherry.
After lunch was over Cherry was only excited for one more part of the day. That part was seeing Jasper in their last period class.
When Cherry walked into class he was already sitting in his desk looking incredibly bored but also very attractive.
Cherry beamed at him as she slid into her desk chair. "Why hello there, stranger."
Jasper returned her smile with one of his own. "You seem to be in a happy mood today." he observed.
She shrugged, "Is it a crime to be happy in your company, Mr. Hale?"
Jasper shook his head, "If it was a crime then I would he no more innocent than you, I'm afraid."
Cherry tried to contain the stupid smile on her face but it was almost impossible.
"At the risk of killing all these happy vibes, I do have to tell you that I will be going home with Bella." Cherry announced. "I have been roped into being a dress consultant and getting dinner in Port Angeles."
Jasper's mouth quirked up in amusement. "Is that so?"
"Yes." Cherry groaned dramatically. "Pray for my sanity and for my ears to not fall off at Jessica's incessant chatter."
Jasper laughed at her antics and shook his head. "You'll be fine, Cherry."
Class had gone by quickly and soon the bell was ringing. Jasper had walked her to her locker so she could get her things to go home.
Just before they could leave the building Jasper gently tugged her back a few steps.
Cherry stopped and looked at him curiously. "Yeeeees?" She drawled out.
He smiled at her and put his hand softly on her cheek. His hands were chilly, but she had began to expect that from him.
"Please be careful tonight, Cherry. I would like to see you all in one piece tomorrow."
She smiled at his concern and placed her hand over his. "I appreciate your concern Jasper, but it is unnecessary. I will be careful."
The two parted ways, and with that Cherry went to find her sister in the parking lot.
Bella was already sitting in the truck with her book out to kill time. Cherry opened the door and hopped into the passenger seat. "Are you ready, Bella?"
Bella rolled her eyes. "I think I was the one waiting on you and not the other way around."
Cherry laughed at her sister's attitude. "Come on Bells, let's go get ready for dress hell."
Bella groaned loudly and started to make the drive home.
The girls both had managed to get ready in record time, and it wasn't a moment too soon because they soon heard Jessica's honking her horn outside.
The trip to the stores itself didn't take very long. Cherry had figured that was due to the fact that Jessica had broken almost every speeding law there was.
Jessica had pulled them into the largest department store she could find and instantly went to the racks to pull herself some things out.
Cherry shrugged and decided to be helpful since that's what she was there for. "What colors do you guys like? Are we looking for short or long?" She asked
Jessica came into view with a pile of dresses almost drowning her.
"I don't have a preference, but I was kind of thinking short maybe since prom is in a few months and that's going to be a long dress occasion for sure." Jessica rambled.
Cherry went to work to find dresses for the girls to try on. She had found a very pretty lilac color that suited Angela's skin tone perfectly and she had also found a dark deep blue dress that really brought out Jessica's eyes... and her boobs which was very important to the curly haired girl.
Bella though was off in her own world. The most she had offered was a "That's pretty, I like that."
"Bella are you not into this?" Angela asked as she tried to find shoes to match her dress.
Bella smiled sheepishly at her friend. "I'm sorry Angela, I was just really thinking about this bookshop not far from here."
Cherry looked over in surprise, Bella hadn't mentioned a bookshop around here.
"Would you mind terribly if I went and met you guys back for dinner?" Bella asked.
Angela's answer was cut off because a group men walking past the store windows started to yell and make lewd gestures.
Cherry flashed up both her middle fingers before rolling her eyes and turning back to her sister and Angela. "Those guys were fucking pigs." She muttered to them.
Cherry looked at Bella and nodded towards the door. "If you want to go look at a bookstore that's fine, but I'm going with you."
Bella agreed and they left with promises that they would be back in time for dinner with the girls.
Bella had found the book shop fairly easy so Cherry was content to follow her for now.
"What are we here for?" Cherry asked as they approached the very spiritual looking building.
Bella wrung her hands nervously. "When you were at the bonfire Jacob Black and his dad came over."
Cherry could briefly recall an older man who had two daughters and a son. Billy was her father's friend. One of his closest ones.
"Annnnnd?" Cherry prompted her sister.
"Jacob started talking about some stupid scary story, about some legend involving these people called the cold ones." Bella explained
"So now you're interested in tribe history?" Cherry snarked.
Bella rolled her eyes. "Look I know this is going to sound crazy, but you know and I know the Cullen's aren't normal. Whatever Jacob told me is in this book that I can only get here, and I think it's going to help us figure out what the Cullen's are."
Cherry shook her head at her sister. "Look Bella, I understand that you want to know, but this is all getting way too ridiculous."
Bella shook her head furiously. "Just stop. Whatever you're about to say, just stop it. I know it's sounds crazy, but all I'm asking is for you to keep your judgement to yourself until I can better explain myself. If you still think I'm crazy after I explain myself then fine."
Cherry sighed heavily and gestured towards the door. "Come on then, let's go. We are on a time limit after all."
Bella purchased the book quickly and with that she began to lead the way back to the girls.
It wasn't until they passed the same building three times that Cherry spoke up. "We're lost, aren't we?"
Bella huffed at her. "No we aren't lost! the dark just has me a little confused but I know where we are going."
The girls kept wandering and before they knew it the sky was dark.
"I'm just going to call Angela and tell her to come find us." Cherry told her sister.
She pulled her phone out only to see she had no signal. She groaned loudly. "You have to be fucking kidding me."
Bella went to say something but she was cut off by a loud male voice.
"Hey girls!"
Cherry and Bella turned to see two men walking towards them from the end of the street they were on.
Cherry felt her nerves stand up and her defenses kick in. She grabbed Bella's arm and started to pull her quicky down the road.
Cherry and Bella made a series of sharp turns and twists through different alley ways. Unfortunately when they came out they saw three more men. They turned to go back the other way only to find the two men they had been trying to get away from before.
Cherry felt dread settle into her stomach as Bella desperately latched onto her arm. Cherry gently pushed her sister off of her and mumbled lowly "I need both my arms in case we have to get out of here."
"What are two pretty women such as yourself doing out here?" One of them slurred.
Cherry was repulsed at the smell of sweat and alcohol coming off of the dingy men. All of them looked like nothing but stains on society.
"There here to hang out with us, isn't that right sweetie?" One of the other ones asked as he reached out to touch Bella's face.
Cherry instinctually batted his hand away from her sister. "Don't fucking touch her."
The men started to hollar and laugh. "Oh we have a spit fire here, boys." One of them jeered.
Cherry looked at her terrified sister and grabbed her hand. "When I move you run, Bella. Do you understand?" Cherry whispered.
Bella have a jerky nod and Cherry let go of her hand and turned back to the men. She wasn't stupid enough to think she could fight them. So her and Bella would have to simply outrun them.
One of the men stepped forward and grabbed Cherry's wrist. She quickly moved her leg up to hit him square in the balls before she jabbed her fingers agressively into the man's eyeballs.
Right when her and Bella started to run away and silver car came speeding down the alley way. It skid to a stop and from it Jasper Hale and Edward Cullen emerged.
"Get in the car" Edward said harshly towards the girls.
Cherry and Bella wasted no time listening to them and both got into the backseat of the car.
Edward and Jasper were outside facing the men. Both of them were stood in an immovable and rigid position.
Whatever the two men had done was enough to send the whole group of disgusting men running for the hills.
Jasper opened the door to the backseat and looked at Bella. "Can you sit up front please."
Bella wordlessly moved to the front next to Edward and Jasper slid into the seat next to Cherry.
Jasper pulled Cherry into his side and put his nose into her hair. "Are you okay?" He managed to get out through his anger.
Cherry put her hand on the side of his face. "I know you're angry Jasper, but please calm down. I'm safe now."
Up front Cherry could hear Edward and Bella having a similar conversation. Bella was trying to distract him from going back to the men and ripping their heads from their bodies.
Cherry almost wasn't opposed by the idea.
But suddenly Cherry had a very different thought. One that had her turning to Jasper for an answer. "How the fuck did you two know where we were, Jasper?"
A/N: I'm so sorry that my updates have been so far apart, I have been having such a hard time trying to decide what direction I want to take this story. So many things I want to happen, it's the getting there part that is hard. Soon things are going to get crazy. Next chapter the girls figure out what the Cullen's are, not to mention the fact that Cherry still has a whole first life that she will remember soon. The fun is only starting so please review and let me know what you all think. I'm always open for suggestions as well as some constructive criticism.
