Death Foundation
After all the events a few months ago, the residents of San Francisco were of the opinion that the Life Foundation (which from that day on everyone only called the "Death Foundation") had been given up.
At that time, many employees had been present during the incident, which the internal employees, who had survived hushed up, so that no soul ever knew what had happened inside this facility, or why one of Carlton Drake's rockets had really exploded in the end. According to official reports, it was a tragic accident for which Carlton Drake himself was responsible when he tried to fly into space on his own initiative and without any help. Since he hadn't had the pilot training that you needed to fly such a rocket and since he had been completely alone, it couldn't have ended any other way. The loss was tragic, but after only a week it was forgotten, because the media quickly stopped reporting on his death.
Since then, no one has looked at the former Life Foundation because everyone thought it was abandoned.
But that wasn't true...
Some of the staff had stayed there and they wanted to follow in Carlton Drake's footsteps and finish what he had started, because not everything had died in the labs back then.
Something had survived with the help of state-of-the-art technology.
A symbiote, created from the DNA code of another symbiote who had matured over the months in the laboratories and was now fully grown.
A symbiote without a host...
The black / red mass moved restlessly in its much too narrow container and it seemed to be watching the events outside of its prison with disgust, because these creatures, who called themselves human beings, had often tried to connect it with one of their own, but so far the symbiosis had never been completed. The symbiote appeared to be picky, or just sadistic, because so far it had killed every potential host. Slowly and in agony the human had died when he was connected to the symbiote.
The test objects were literally torn and eaten alive.
A tragic loss for the scientists, because they were slowly running out of test objects.
They stopped using the homeless in the city for a long time, fearing that this would be too conspicuous. They didn't want to make the same mistake as Drake did so many months ago.
So they used the city jail, which housed the worst scum in the city.
Rapists, child molesters, murderers...all the same scum and not worth a penny.
Perfect candidates for their experiments, because nobody would miss these monsters and at the same time they got the punishment they deserved!
But the symbiote was not satisfied with any of them, because although he was given enough to eat, he continued to eat the organs of his victims in cold blood and let them suffer in the process. As if it amused him to slowly disembowel and devour him victims...
One day, even the scientists doubted that it was such a good idea to find the perfect host for this creature, because none of them wanted to imagine what this thing would be capable of, if the symbiosis would be perfect and so some of the scientists left the Life Foundation and went into hiding, fearful that they could be found and then end up as supper for this monster.
Those who remained were sure of their cause and carried on.
Ignorant idiots...
When in the end there was only one potential host left, these scientists too gave up all their hopes.
Jake, one of the last scientists in the Life Foundation, looked listlessly at the monitor in front of him, which was transmitting the heart rate and other medical data of the next test object. He already knew how this was going to end anyway, so why bother and monitor these scum's medical datas? He would die anyway.
Cletus Kasady was by far the biggest piece of shit that walked on this planet.
He had killed many people in his miserable life. Women, as well as men and even children...sick bastard!
He had brutally tortured all of them to death; probably because it also pleased him when he forced a young mother to watch how he cut out her child's heart in front of her eyes.
Inwardly, Jake hoped that this asshole would die the worst of all deaths because a swine like that didn't deserve to breathe the same air as he did!
His eyes left the screen and focused on the window that looked into the adjoining laboratory and in which Kasady was. He was strapped to an operating table and kept talking to the people who were bustling around him. Most of them were death threats and insults, but nobody seemed to pay attention to him. No wonder, because nothing like that has been new for them, since they were dealing with murderers here since a while.
Almost like soulless robots, the scientists moved through the laboratory, preparing Kasady for what was about to happen. He was given a sedative through one of the many medical accesses on his arm to finally silence him, but this only worked mediocre, because he kept babbling in spite of everything, throwing insults and threats around. Nobody paid any attention.
In the end, it was the symbiote himself who finally silenced Kasady when this monster was brought into the laboratory.
As soon as it saw Kasady, the mass in the medical container stirred restlessly back and forth and even Kasady's eyes widened and they all saw something like fear in them.
"What the hell is that? Hey, you assholes! What kind of thing is that?" he roared as he braced himself against the shackles that kept him on the table when the symbiote was pushed to the foot end of the table.
"I thought you gave him a sedative?" Jake asked as his colleagues walked into the next room where he was monitoring everything.
"We have too, but as you can see it doesn't seem to work on him."
"Do you wonder? You would also fight with all your might if you were alone in a room with a thing like that," a third voice reported, which came from a young scientist who was the last to enter the room and who locked the door behind her.
A nod was the only answer she got and all pairs of eyes turned to the sealed off room, where Kasady was still bracing himself like a madman against his bonds, screaming and throwing death threats around him. None of the scientists paid attention to this, as they were used to such behavior from the other test objects.
"Ready?" Jake asked and his colleagues nodded their heads in silence.
He took another deep breath, collected himself and then pressed the button that would seal Kasady's fate.
Despite the sedative, Kasady still managed to brace himself against his bonds. He didn't know where he was, why he'd been brought here or what was about to happen to him. There was only one thing he knew for sure: those bastards were up to no good and he had to find a way to break free. If he could do that, he would kill every one of them. Slow and excruciating; just like he always had. He has loved killing from childhood. His first victim back then was the neighbor's cat, but at some point that was no longer enough for him and he had attacked his own grandmother and pushed her down the stairs, which broke her neck. His parents were next before he was deported to an orphanage, where he lived a miserable life. But not for long, because the orphanage was soon on fire and with it everything that lived insideā¦
Many people were firmly convinced that no one was born evil, but Kasady was different. He was born an asshole and would die as such. On the way there he would take as many people with him as he could because he loved killing. Attempts had been made to lock him up, but numerous outbreaks had confirmed that it would not be so easy until he was taken to San Quentin Prison, where he was under close scrutiny; Day in, day out. So there was no way for him to break out and he was told that he would never see daylight again and that he would die there. At least that was wrong, because he had been allowed to see the daylight again when they took him out of prison and brought him to this facility. But one thing was clear: he certainly wouldn't die here!
But even a hardened murderer like him got a queasy feeling in his stomach when he was left alone with this container at the foot end of his table and in which this strange, black / red mass was moving excitedly back and forth. Was that a living being? Had to be some kind of sick experiment!
Whatever it was, he didn't want to find out and so he tore at his shackles again, screaming, but they just wouldn't give in and held him firmly on the table. The sheer panic seized him when he heard the container unlock and when his eyes turned to it, he saw the glass lid slowly slide open. The creature inside grew more restless, braced itself against the glass lid and tried to escape. It had no eyes and yet Kasady felt that it was watching him and that alone was enough for a huge adrenaline rush with which he managed to free himself from one of the handcuffs.
Panicked, he tried to free himself from the other straps that were still holding him on the table and he didn't let the creature out of his sight, which was now slowly wriggling out of its container and then sliding towards him. Like a snake it crept closer and when it touched his bare foot, goosebumps covered his body. His heart was pounding wildly against his ribs, he was on the verge of hyperventilating and his vision faded when he was close to fainting; so strong was the fear in him as this creature slowly slid up his leg.
"Shit damn it! What the hell is that? Hey, you assholes! Get me out of here! NOW!" he screamed in his panic, but nobody reacted to him. He saw the surveillance cameras that were all pointed at him and out of the corner of his eye he saw the large mirror and he knew that his next victims were right behind it, if he would somehow make it out of here alive.
The creature had meanwhile reached his chest and straightened up to look at him. Kasady paused briefly, looked at the slimy thing until he gathered the last of his courage and struck it with his free hand.
"Fuck off, you disgusting, slimy bastard, or whatever you are!" he shouted at it and writhed like a savage on the table, trying to free himself and at the same time get this thing off of his body, but he couldn't do neither one or the other. The creature dodged his blows and seemed to be amused by his fear. It continued to stare at him and in doing so it seemed to slowly melt into his body, because Kasady felt the red mass slowly seeping into his body. But strangely enough, he didn't feel any pain, but a feeling of pleasant warmth. He became noticeably calmer, only fought half-heartedly against this thing and at some point he just let himself fall back, closed his eyes and prayed that it would be over quickly...
In the adjoining room, the scientists held their breath as they watched the spectacle eagerly. Kasady had calmed down and seemed to have given up, because at some point he had stopped fighting and just let it happen. The symbiote slowly connected to its new host, but this time something was different because as the symbiosis progressed, a small part, that looked like a small snake-like head, was pointed at the killer's face. As if it was staring at him with fascination. This had never happened before with any of their test objects. Whether this was a good or a bad sign, they would see when the symbiosis was complete...
Darkness enveloped him.
Had he passed out?
No, then he couldn't think about that now...right?
Then why the hell couldn't he see anything?
He could still feel the surface of the operating table, to which he was still strapped. The beeping and rattling of medical equipment reached his ears from far away. But there was something else. Something that was much more dominant than anything else he could feel and hear. He still felt this wonderful warmth that now enveloped his entire body. Felt something move through his body. Felt new energy in himself and a power that acted like an intoxicating drug on him.
He had calmed down, no longer struggled and the creature had stopped moving hectically under his skin. They had become one and Kasady found these new feelings in a perverse way more than intoxicating. The desire to murder and to cause pure chaos grew in him. The fear was completely gone when this thing claimed his body.
"Finally a host who is worthy of me and not such a weak loser like the ones before."
He winced when that dark voice spoke to him out of nowhere and seemed to come straight out of his head. And then he saw it in his mind's eye: a pair of white, shining eyes, wrapped in a dark red mass and black fangs that grinned at him cheerlessly.
"What the hell are you, you slimy thing?"
Kasady immediately regretted the question with hellish pain that went through his body as the monster inside him growled darkly. His muscles tensed so much that he feared they would tear as he arched his back with a loud scream and tried to endure the pain that shot through his body like a tidal wave and penetrated every single fiber of his body.
"I'm not a "slimy thing"!" the creature growled at him and to make its point clear, it let another wave of pain rage through his body.
"Oh god, stop it!" Kasady shouted and he squirmed like a worm in his bonds and tried to endure it somehow.
And then, all of a sudden, it was all over.
The pain subsided and the darkness released him again, because when he opened his eyes he stared at the ceiling of the operating room, where he was still strapped to a table. The devices next to him gave warning signals. No wonder, his heart was still pounding in his chest, as if he had just run a marathon and it was difficult for him to calm down.
"I can already see: the two of us will definitely get along well..." the dark voice rang out again in his head and the words alone made him shudder.
"You...you didn't answer my question..." he managed to say, panting.
"I am a Klyntar. Created from the genes of another Klyntar."
"What the hell is a Klyntar supposed to be?"
"Something you humans call an extraterrestrial being."
"Are you kidding me?! A fucking alien?"
Another growl rang out in his skull and before he could prevent it, another strong wave of pain rushed through his body, this time reaching into his bones...
Behind the large mirror, the scientists silently watched the cruel spectacle that took place in front of their eyes. It seemed to go just like the times before and most of them at some point turned their eyes away from the gruesome scene or even left the room until in the end only Jake was left.
Kasady didn't seem to be anything special, because the Klyntar was just about to kill him, like all the others, cruelly and painfully.
Well, it was worth a try...
Kasady was only slowly recovering from the ongoing attacks of the alien, who apparently enjoyed tormenting him and making him scream in agony. The dark laugh in his head spoke volumes...
But at some point the torture stopped and he was able to think clearly again when the pain stopped clouding his mind. He lay there panting, trying to calm down. Which wasn't that easy, because he had to watch a snake-like head with knife-sharp, black fangs manifest itself out of his chest and this sight would have made him crazy with fear, if he wasn't already so weak. Large, glowing white eyes stared at him, a long tongue shot out of its mouth and greedily licked its fangs as it stared directly into his fearful eyes.
"If you want to kill me...then just do it!"
Another laugh, and the sound made Kasady shudder.
"Kill you? Why should I do that? I just taught you a little lesson, nothing else. You are much too valuable for me to kill you."
"W-why?"
"Because you are something very special. I feel a lot of anger inside of you. And more than that. You love to torture and even kill your own kind. We are two when it comes to that. When we are together...just imagine the chaos we could create together. Together we would rule this planet. How does that sound to you?"
It didn't sound too bad. Not at all. But there was one more thing he wanted to know.
"And what's the catch?"
"There is no. You give me your body and I let you live for it. Sounds like a fair deal, don't you think?"
"As if I had a choice at all..."
"You have. Either you stay with me and we will have a lot of fun together or you stay here and I will kill you in front of these weak creatures. Your decision."
"Okay, okay, I got it!"
"Well, I think you know what will happen if you don't obey me, Earthling!"
Cletus just sighed and let his head fall back against the cold table and closed his eyes in resignation.
This was the first time in his life that he was the victim and had looked an ice cold killer directly in the eyes. But this killer was so different from all the others he had seen before. He wasn't even human and maybe, just maybe, this creature was right too and they'd really have a lot of fun together. If he only thought of the feeling of this limitless power that has streamed through his body since the connection and slowly mingled with his murderous bloodlust...oh yes, they could have a lot of fun together and when, if not now, he could put this symbiosis to a test?
After all, their first toys were right next door...
Jake was just packing his things.
Perhaps it was an inner voice that practically yelled at him to turn his head to the side at that very moment when the creature broke away from its bonds and then jumped straight at the large window, or it had been divine destiny that he should dodge the attack, as the monster broke through the window pane and crashed into the wall behind him.
But as soon as it got up again and hissed at him and when a strong tentacle wrapped itself around his neck and contracted like an anaconda, he knew that neither his inner voice had saved his life, nor God.
Oh no, God wasn't present that day when the devil personally walked through the facility of the former Life Foundation and brought the sheer horror with him.
After ripping Jake's spine out of his back and feasting on his remains, Kasady, turned into a bloodthirsty monster, had moved on; always looking for new test objects on which he could test his new strength.
Oh yes, they would all suffer for what they did to him!
They'd all treated him like a worthless piece of shit. He was just a pathetic guinea pig that was worth nothing in their eyes!
Well, he would turn the tables now, because now the guinea pig became a brutal monster that thirsted for the blood of its tormentors.
These scientists would understand in the last moments of their lives the immense mistake they made in creating this monster and connecting it with him!
It was an intoxicating feeling when this red mass enveloped his entire body. The power of this creature passed on to him and with it his greed for human blood.
The next unsuspecting victim ran straight into his claws and with one bite of that mighty jaw, his head was crushed and severed from his shoulders in a split second.
Soon the blood of their victims covered the floor of the facility and screams echoed in the dark hallways as Kasady and the Klyntar wreaked a real massacre.
No one was spared and anyone who fell into their claws was killed in the most terrifying way a human could possibly imagine. And Kasady enjoyed every single second of it. He gave the Klyntar full control, had become a spectator in his own body and when the Klyntar, whom he soon named "Carnage", gutted one of his victims alive, his mad laughter cut the young man's screams who died such a gruesome death here before his eyes.
That would just be the beginning of a series of murders the world had never seen before.
He and Carnage would bring chaos and death to this planet.
And it would begin in San Francisco.
Hadn't there been this strange journalist with him in prison who had interviewed him and who asked him way too many questions?
This guy, Eddie Brock, had been too curious for him even then and he knew from experience that such people always brought trouble with them.
But he would soon no longer have this problem.
When he was done here, he and Carnage would go hunting together.
And Eddie Brock would be high on their list...
