Hello, sorry, I was kind of stuck on this chapter for a while, Warning Cliff Ahead. I have put up a poll in my author page for this story for readers to vote. The vote is for a partner pairing for Louise, either romantic or platonic and I'd love to get your feedback, it will remain open until such time I feel I have enough data or I have moved past a critical point in my story where I have to decide, thanks and enjoy the chapter.
Chapter Ten: The Sleep Event
Professor Colbert was very exhausted after running through most of the academy. It was only moments ago he had awoken. He had just come from the faculty office. Still all the other teachers had been asleep when he awoke.
When Colbert had awoke, he found a bleeding bruised Miss Longueville laying face first by an overturned table by him. Her blood had mixed with a puddle of tea, and other confectionery's that were littered all over the floor. They had been on the overturned table obviously when she fell. He checked over her injuries as well as the other sleeping faculty members. Luckily his other fellow teachers had been sitting and hadn't suffered like the poor commoner had. This reeked of triangle or square class sleep magic, and that was concerning.
Still he pushed aside his worries and had gotten the commoner woman to the schools nurses office, which in reality was closer to a field hospital he might have seen back when he was in Tristan's military. Fitting seeing as this was a potentially dangerous school harboring young adolescent mages which could get seriously hurt. A simple nurse was not really adequate for that. Young nobleman Malicorne was still sleeping on one of the infirmaries beds, nursing a wound from an alchemy experiment gone wrong just earlier this morning.
The unconscious Longueville groaned in her sleep as Colbert set her into a bed as he went to rouse the medic on hand.
*Chapter Ten: The Sleep Event*
Carefully Tabitha levitated the young scion of the Valliere family. Kirche carefully did the same for the young busy maid Siesta.
"Tabitha can you tell if they are alright?" Kirche asked before swallowing her concern.
"Willpower exhaustion. Fine... Maid.. Knocked out..." She stated like a report.
"Good. I wouldn't want to see my Louise get hurt now, she is just so much fun to tease." Kirche joyfully stated.
"Bully." Tabitha spoke softly to her good friend.
"I'm not a bully Tabby! Louise just doesn't know how to have a good time!" Kirche argued to her friend loudly.
After walking some time across the eerily quiet campus academy grounds, the four of them came upon the water tower, where the Nurse's office was located in the school.
"Too Quiet." Tabitha whispered to Kirche as they entered the water tower.
"Your right, it's quiet as the night. Kinda spooky." Kirche mumbled off.
Kirche thought it would be a bit more frantic after a giant golem attacked the schools vault, you could hear that thing for miles after all. Maybe everyone was hiding?
*Chapter Ten: The Sleep Event*
The door to the nurse's office creaked open. Colbert was far to busy casting military healing diagnostic spells. He wanted to make sure the young secretary was not to badly hurt. He had carefully carried her here after all, and after being unable to wake any of the sleeping healers, he chose to instead use what he did know.
What he did find was multiple broken bones, internal bruising, and other injuries that he would not be deal with by himself. The infirmary well stocked with potion supplies, but in the end Colbert was not a water mage. He knew he was a fire mage of death, what little medical knowledge he had was not enough, which was better then some water mages. But knowledge without an ability to apply it was useless. He taught magic to others so they could stop death, because in the past he himself had caused it. Yes Colbert was a haunted man from his past actions as the Flame Serpent, and he did his best to atone for it.
"Professor." Said a small Bluenette.
Turning around Colbert's frown turned into a smile before the group that had just entered the room. "Tabitha and Miss Zerbst."
After a quick greeting Colbert frowned once again as the two girls were followed by the floating bodies of Miss Vallierre and a maid. Most likely more injuries from the sleeping event that had just occurred, still he had to ask. "What happened?"
"Thief." Tabitha spoke, as if that was enough information.
"A giant golem being controlled by a thief attacked the Void tower fault Professor." Kirche Explained.
"Fouquet?" Colbert mumbled to himself. As he calmed himself, obviously if they were here his precious students must be safe, still he needed more information. "Are you all okay, what happened to the thief?"
"Okay. Thief got away.." Tabitha informed him.
Colbert sighed in relief.
"Yeah it was amazing professor, Louise manged to chase off the thief before we arrived!"
"How!?" Colbert shouted. "Louise spells were always inaccurate failures that exploded, how could she drive away a triangle class earth mage!?" Colbert screamed in his head.
"Magic." Tabitha stated as Kirche mentally face planted.
"I'm not really too sure professor, but I think she used some kind of weird foci and shot a beam of light from her finger. There was a giant boom and the golem was ripped apart like a rock hitting paper!" Kirche attempted to correct her small friends statement.
Tabitha meanwhile was placing Louise and the maid on beds.
"I see." Colbert stated. Colbert came to the conclusion it most have been the Ring of Destruction, a magical ring foci that had been said to be able to destroy a dragon in one shot. It had been sitting in the vault for decades without anyone being able to use it, no matter what any nobles had tried.
"Did the thief manage to steal anything before Miss Vallierre drove him away?"
"They tried, but Tabitha and I drove him away professor!" Kirche flexed her chest... More like two boulders bounced in front of the professors eyes...
"Very well, Tabitha until such time as I can wake our healers, would you please see to the wounded. Miss Longueville was heavily injured during the thief's attack."
*Chapter Ten: The Sleep Event*
Count Mont was very angry. His anger might have already exploded if he hadn't already had a very good week. The brothels in the nearby town had been very nice. But now here he was being ignored at the gates to the Academy. Him, a royal messenger to the royal family! What were all the servants asleep or something! Count Mont knew what punishment he would dull out to his servants if they tried that!
"Count Mont, they still have not opened the gates! One of my men thinks that something may be wrong as know one is answering."
Of course something was wrong thought the Count. The staffing here were all lazy and should be punished! Unlike one of the students, he didn't have a magic pass that would grant him access to the academy, thus bypassing the gate. No, he had to wait to be announced to enter the Academy grounds!
"We shall push forward then, we have waited long enough, have one of your men scale the wall." Count Mont ordered.
Count Mont's personal guard captain's expression soured.
It was quite dangerous for a commoner such as himself to climb walls, nobles could fly, commoners like him could fall... Then either be crippled or die. Still, orders were orders, as such he gave the order to two of his more fit soldiers to scale the wall.
The first thing Count Mont did when he got inside the Academy grounds was to march straight for the headmasters office. He wanted answers and he needed to warn the Academy that Fouquet had been rumor to be around this area of the country. Not that a simple triangle mage could get through the Academy's defenses. No he had a much greater purpose here that was quite pleasurable.
*Chapter Ten: The Sleep Event*
Old Osmond and the other teachers woke up to quite a mess. The room was a mess, and blood was even covering the floor along with broken tea cups and soaked papers.
Old Osmond didn't have very long to dwell on it, as Professor Colbert entered the room and dragged him to the headmasters office. Any questions were shushed as Colbert told the other teachers to go check the students on the campus for injuries. Apparently Colbert would explain what had happened fully in his office.
What a tale it was, but actually perhaps a bit expected. Karin and Genkai had also proven their metal. Though Osmond had only heard of Genkai's strength. Gramont and Zerbst were examples of the former of course.
Fortunately no one had been hurt, at least not lethally, though it would take some time to make sure for certain. Another concern was the thief's use of sleep magic. That was not Fouquet the Crumbling Dirt's usual style. Still the giant golem was... Perhaps Fouquet had a partner? Colbert seemed to agree.
A knock came upon the door. Osmond wished his secretary had been here to answer it, but alas he stared at Colbert instead.
Colbert sighed as he opened the door.
Count Mont stepped inside. "Greetings Professor Colbert, Headmaster Osmond."
Count Mont looked around. "Osmond, where is that lovely green haired secretary of yours?"
Osmond sighed. "You know I can't afford to loose her, but its a shame she has been injured."
"Oh how awful." The Count acted in insincerity, it was obvious a commoners woes where none of his concern.
Colbert really did not like the Count, still he put a smile on his face as he recounted the events of the day again. Osmond added any points that Colbert may have forgotten from earlier as he did so.
"Well things always seem very interesting at the Academy. It seems my warning about Fouquet's was a bit late though." Count Mont apologized.
"You did your best Count, even with a warning we could not have know that Fouquet would use powerful sleep magic." Colbert stated.
"Professor Colbert is right Count Mont." Osmond reaffirmed.
"Still you have injured, perhaps I could help in the infirmary before I go. Your staff needs to start preparing for the upcoming Familiar Exhibition right?" Count Mont offered.
Osmond knew what the Count was up too, but how could he really refuse. The Count would get what he wanted regardless of how he did it, at least this would reduce costs for the schools strained budget. "That would be very helpful Count Mont."
Colbert frowned as he directed the Count towards the infirmary.
The infirmary was now quite busy. Teachers had found injured students, but non as injured as miss Longueville or the other initial victims of the sleep event. Yes the sleep event was now what the students had dubbed this whole thing, it seems rather silly as Fouquet was know for earth magic.
While chaotic, the school had no problems dealing with the injuries and Count Mont probably wouldn't have to actually do anything. The school healers seemed to have everything under control.
As a result of hardly being needed, Count Mont was sent to check and heal the injured service staff. This was a result of the healers prioritizing the needs of nobles first, and Count Mont had volunteered for the job, so he was put to work. Work he was all too happy to do, as he checked over the commoners injuries with a lecherous face.
*Chapter Ten: The Sleep Event*
Louise's eyes fluttered open. The smell was all too common for her. She was in the schools medical wing. Yes the smell of potions and bodily fluids pervaded the air, whether fresh or long since gone. The medical wings beds were mostly empty besides a few people here and there on beds just like her own. Shockingly enough her rival Zerbst was asleep in a chair by her bed, Tabitha was also sleeping right in her lap. "It was quite cute, not the Zerbst though!" She thought.
Louise attempted to sit up but felt extremely sore.
"You best not get up quickly. You have been sleeping since noon yesterday." A school healer said.
"What time is it?" Louise asked as she looked out at the darkened sky outside.
"The sun just came up. You suffered from Willpower exhaustion, we had to even feed you some potions to prevent you from sleeping for days." The nurse stated.
Louise gulped, those potions weren't cheap, thankfully it was not her fault. "How soon will I be able to leave?" Louise asked the healer.
"Pretty soon, why do you have something important to do?" The healer asked.
Louise thought about the things she needed to do, it had been quite a week, and now she was finishing with a trip to the medical wing, at least it wasn't due to one of her explosions. No, that hadn't happened since her first year when she had overpowered one of her spells with extra willpower in frustration. Still there was something she had to do.
"Yes. When I arrived at the Academy I was nearly killed." Louise answered.
"I take it then that another noble saved your life?" The healer looked over to the two sleeping nobles with red and blue hair.
"No, a maid named Siesta saved me, my noble honor dictates that I thank and reward her." Louise stated.
The healers face went into a frown, after all said maid had left the academy last night. "I'm afraid she is no longer on the campus Miss Valliere."
