-Kali POV-
"You ratted them out?" Harvard asked me on our way to lunch. I shrugged.
"In my defense, they were pretty loud. I couldn't get any sleep!" I complained, yawning in the process. We were both well aware of Jack and Grace having their maiden voyage last night, however, only I seemed to be kept up because of it. For whatever reason, the second Harvard shuts his eyes, he's out cold.
"Still, Jaimini, I don't think that was the best thing to do" Harvard explained as we entered the mess hall. "I mean, did either of us get called down for a noise complaint?" I leaned against the wall of the mess hall, jaw dropped in mock offense at him.
"Are you saying I moan loudly?" I accused him. He laughed out loud a bit before responding.
"I'm saying we're both guilty. I'd say considerably louder than they were last night." he said. I raised an eyebrow.
"So you WERE awake?" I asked. He shrugged.
"Kinda. Enough to be able to hear them" he nodded as we got our food. We made our way into the mess hall, which was nearly empty. We were early for lunch so that was expected. We sat down at a table next to each other, and I let out a sigh.
"Yeah, I may have made a mistake" I admitted, nibbling at my granola bar. Harvard put his hand in mine, and I looked at him.
"You didn't make a mistake, Jaimini. As far as I know, Six just laughed it off" he told me, cutting into his waffle. I cocked my head.
"Six...laughed?" I asked. I didn't even know Six was capable of laughing. I've seen her crack a smile when a mission comes back successful, but full on laughing? That's pretty alien for her.
"I guess so?" Harvard shrugged. "I mean, why don't you ask them?" he spoke, nodding to next to me. I look to where he indicated as Grace and Jack entered the mess hall. Rather undescreatly, I called them over to our table. They came over, but Jack spoke before I even opened my mouth.
"It's fine, Jaimini" he spoke, referring to me ratting them out.
"It isn't though-"
"Yes, it is, trust us" Grace spoke, siding with Jack.
"It's really not a big deal" Jack promised, as the two took their seats across from us. I shrugged.
"If you say so, I guess" I responded, finishing my granola bar. We sat and chatted for a bit, eating lunch before Harvard and I headed out for a bit. As we we're talking, I brought up something that itched in the back of my mind. "Grace?"
"Hm?" Grace looked up from her burger.
"Did Six really...laugh?" I asked with a raised eyebrow. Grace chuckled.
"It was more of a smirk, but yeah" she shrugged. "But really, though, you're fine. I would've done the same thing."
"Good to know" Harvard muttered. The four of us shared a laugh and talked about various topics until we broke apart after lunch. Since Harvard and I had finished our training for the day, we decided to head out, wearing considerable layers to protect us from the crisp fall weather.
"Nice to get out of Hereford" I spoke up, breaking the silence around us. Harvard nodded in agreement.
"Definitely. Reminds me of my life before Rainbow" he said as we entered the small town.
"When you did search and rescue?" I asked. He nodded.
"Yeah, when I didn't have to do excessive training, or worry about being shot at on missions" he said, rather upbeat. I nodded. I was always a militaristic person. I led various operations before joining Rainbow, and had the scars to prove it. Now, I'm beginning to wish I had something easier, like Harvard had.
"That must've been a huge change" I commented. Harvard nodded.
"'Huge' is kinda an understatement" he retorted. I let out a laugh, and he wrapped his arm around my shoulders. "I love that laugh" he smiled. Just for him, I laughed again.
"Only the best for the best" I smiled. We walked around a bit, before stopping in front of a small coffee shop. It looked cute from the outside, so I figured we could grab a drink real quick. Plus, I was starting to loose feeling in my fingertips on account of the cold.
"Cocoa?" Harvard asked, holding the door to the shop open for me. I smiled, stepping into the shop, and embracing the peppermint aroma that lingered in the air.
"Always." I replied, looking Harvard in the eye. "You know me so well"
"Only the best for the best" he replied. At that point, I couldn't hold back my emotions, and leapt forward slightly, planting my lips on his. He kissed back almost immediately, wrapping his arms around my waist, pulling me in closer. I loved him. Everything about him. His sweet nature, his desire for peace over violence, and just his looks alone got my mind going. I smiled to myself, knowing he was mine, and promising myself he will get nothing but the best.
Hope you enjoyed this one! My posting schedule for both story series will hopefully be consistent again, so expect new chapters on a consistent basis. Anyway, peace!
